The staff is very friendly and food is delicious. More importantly, it is dog friendly. We will come back again when we visit Gisborne next time.

We enjoyed attentive service, a delightful atmosphere in a beautiful historic building on the cool veranda after a hot summer day. I had the very best marinated fish I ever tasted here, and all other dishes were super tasty as well. We returned for lunch the following day and can only confirm that The Works is consistently excellent, day and night. Great cocktails, too.

Great dining location. Beautiful food, with an excellent selection of local wines, beer and cider. Cocktails were also fantastic. Staff friendly attentive and helpful. Building had character, plenty of parking nearby and wonderful atmosphere. By far my favourite place to eat in Gisborne. We will be back when visiting next.

Great wine selection, the small plates were exceptional ... We would recommend the kokoda 👍

Great venue with friendly staff and good service. Ordered the sirloin katsu sandwich which was amazing with the focaccia bread to share that was delicious.

Very tasty, well presented meals in a gorgeous setting.

Nice setting outside under the vines, not a grape in sight though. Try to order your cocktail at least 30 mins before your food unless you want them at the same time. Friendly staff and food delicious!

On the water front in a lovely old character building. We enjoyed our lunch, food was excellent and service also good. Plenty of parking in front of restaurant, area is a mixture of industrial and dining.

Beautifully restored historic building. Al fresco dining is perfect for brunch or those balmy summer nights. Great coffee, grest food, friendly staff.

Great dinner out. Good food, good service, good views. Menu is short but good variety and we'll presented. Good drinks menu too. Margarita was in the small side but it was well made and tasty. Wine comes in good size. Enjoyable dinner!

Great spot for brekkie. Prices are average for the area, restaurant is visually appealing and service is friendly. Lots of parking too. Egg Benedict with salmon was good and the full English was impressive. Dishes were well presented and flavorful.

Really enjoyed our overdue lunch date with my daughter. Fish of the day and a steak sandwich. Thumbs up too both. Add a jug of coke and the total was $74. Good service. Covid rules were observed. Lots of tables and parking.

A beautiful space with delicious food and wine, friendly and on point service. We had lunch one day under the grape vine outside, and dinner the next day inside. Very enjoyable.

Love! The location, decor and atmosphere was perfect. I highly recommend the pumpkin risotto, it was creamy with just the right amount of crunch 🤤 finishing the night off with the cheesecake was a hit! Not too sweet and the slice size was just right 👌Each dish was served on the most beautiful plates. So much thought has gone into every element. The Works needs to be on your must visit list!

A surprise... after calling 3 restaurants in the gisborne and all of them being fully booked we called the works and they were avaliable. all i can say is go with no expectations.. great food..

We shared a brownie here and it was amazing. I’m quite the chocolate fan, and this brownie was superb. The texture was just right, the flavours absolutely spot on. 10/10 - Would brownie again.

It is rare to find a place like this in a country where there's no proper cuisine, so good finding a proper restaurant and not just the usual fish n' chips, pizzas or other fast food. The beef tartare was great. I wish I had been able to try more plates cause they all looked good. Nice place and staff as well.

Awesome awesome awesome!! Finally I found a place in Gisborne where I can sit back and enjoy awesome drinks accompanied by amazing hospitality and great food as well as drinks. There's no way for "no" here. I requested for chicken in my pasta and they did it!! I haven't experienced a service like this before ... Amazing coconut parafait it's a must try. Keep up the awesome work team The Works!! Seriously must try. Thank you for the warm hospitality 😘😘😘

An absolutely enjoyable experience! Food is great and staff are amazing!

Good meal, good service. Main: Thick steak with asparagus underneath. Could have done with a couple of nice cooked cherry tomatoes to top it off. 7/10. Dessert: mudcake very nice, crisp on the outside & soft in the centre. Would have been nice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side to help it slide down. 8/10. Nice atmosphere. Warm. Big carpark. Good range of drinks. General feeling that they have improved compared to a couple of years back. $$ steak $40, dessert $16.

Fantastic venue with a great outlook. Relatively limited menu but something for everyone and we all loved the food, although the serving for the lamb rump was small (for a big eater). What was really disappointing was the service. It was slow and inefficient, e.g., we weren't asked if we wanted drinks when we sat down and then had to ask for them while ordering our meal. The drinks then took an age to arrive and then the staff failed to follow up when we had finished our drinks. So, overall, heaps of potential but struggling to deliver.

Dinner last night, no fish available which was sad. The risotto flavour was unusual, and I enjoy trying something new. My husband said his duck wasn't the best he has had. Service is friendly

Great food for a Monday dinner. Excellent service matching wine's with mains. Husband had risotto which was flavoursome. I had lamb rack which again had good flavour. With a great dessert to top it off.

Beautiful restaurant, great service and the food looks good. I was searching for fresh seafood but options in town are limited. Although the fresh fish I had was tasty, it was breaded. I would had preferred non- battered healthier fish choice, but the only other choice was raw. Otherwise great restaurant. Great cappuccino, service and ambiance ...

Wonderfully friendly staff in the gorgeous old building looking over the water. The food was good - my sister really enjoyed her squid.

Best place to drink cocktails in all gisborne area. Great staff with Italian accent, makes you experience different than usual... also the filipino fella, very helpful. Dishes for fine palates.

Usually an easy place to walk into for a good meal with pretty good selection. Can pay to book later in the week. Staff are friendly also which always helps!!

Had a graduation meal here and it was beautiful. I had the chicken meal and it was to die for, I tasted some from my friends plates, oysters, fish n chips, steak meal all were very yummy. Nice consistent service, lovely atmosphere. Definitely recommend.

Food was okay, but tbh, a little overpriced and small portions. We ordered the kids steak and the steaks were tiny, like REALLY tiny (think the size of a toddler's hand). Lovely place and ambience though.

Wow just wow, I think I've found a new favorite restaurant. The pork belly, was so good.

Great location, beautiful outdoor area, loved the brick and exposed beams of the interior. The owner is super friendly and pleasant to speak with as was our waitress. I had the eggs bene which was delish, and not drowning in hollandaise sauce like most places do.

The Works was so good! The kai was yummy and our whānau enjoyed all of their meals. I had the roasted duck it went down so well. The flavours were amazing. Great experience, we even stayed for dessert which was beautiful too! Overall a great experience I would go back there!

Great restaurant, great food, the venue is also interesting, near the industrial port. I can vouch for the pork belly, lamb and salmon. The prices are also decent, especially when compared to Auckland fine dining restaurants.

Stunning deserts.... impressive service and a great atmosphere... we highly recommend this place. We only stopped in for desert but wished we had had a main here too.

Great waitresses and fantastic food. Can recommend the sirloin, pork belly, lamb rump, salmon, and duck for mains and market fish, salmon, and beef tartare for entrees. Also recommend the chocolate cremeux, Spanish donuts, and tiramisu for dessert. Wine selection is also extensive and delicious. Definitely a place to stop by in Gisborne for fine dining.

Stopped here for drinks on our first day at Gisborne which i recommend coming here. Very friendly staff who have great knowledge of the area and helped us with places to visit in the area.

Absolutely delicious food. Great mix of flavours and textures. Don Alexander is the Gordon Ramsay of Gisborne. Also has a nice selection of local wines.

We called in for lunch....what to have?? Decided on Eggs Benedict...OMG ..the best ever. The Hollandaise sauce superb!!! We also ordered bowl of french fries.....why? we really did not need them 😎 ! However I wanted to try the Aoli ...and it was THE best ever!!!. Asked if they sold it..No😕. Most enjoyable setting,great service and awesome lunch for us, a pinot noir and beer to wash it down... 2 satisfied customers indeed. Sue

Wonderful service the front was very professional and cheaked on us regularly the first dish seafood chowder was rather simple with fresh parsley and lite modes of garlic nipping away on the tongue they gave garlic toasted carbatta instead of just toasted which was a delightful surprise. the staff asked if there was any dietary needs allergens in a rather caring manner which is getting harder to find now days. My main was the beef cheek ragout which was an absolute melt in the mouth wonder with tender beef grilled capsicum courgette and mushroom! I would highly recommend coming in If your ever in the gisbourne area thankyou too our waiter taegan and the chefs sharun and cody for an amazing meal

Second time I've been recently, and again food was beautifully cooked and presented. Restaurant is in a super location and has lovely views back towards Gisborne city.

Everything was great but a draft was making us cold due the doors being open

Well, I try restaurants to see if they improve and I can say happily the Works has changed a lot. From 1 star to 5. To be fair, the ownership/lease has changed, for the better. We were taken to the rear for a quite dining experience, 35th wedding anniversary. Waiter was top notch, super person. Food was prompt and delicious. Left a tip at the table as gratitude. Highly recommend.
