T.Great atmosphere and helpful staff . Steak and eggs cooked to perfection , congrats to the cook Criss. DOG friendly must be on a leash but they were really relaxed about that . Stayed the night in there car park and the next night stayed right on the shore front down Domain rd .

and couldn't have asked for a nicer
place to be stuck. Food was top class and everybody was friendly, a real country pub everything really well priced.
K.Arrived in the hospitable arms of Westport here on Kayes beachfront paradise and may stay forever! Thank you for being generous open hearted people. Dinner at the Star Tavern was superb! Service amazing and food was perfect. Love the vibe Annie and Jeremy have created there. Nothings too much trouble and they make running a tavern look easy! Well done all of you for making my first impressions of Westport hit 10 out of 10.....sunset was a 10 too!
m.Such the loveliest barman and waiter. We really love this place. You can eat real budget or splash out. The security Dog is such a smooch and the outside garden seating on a good day is the best.
S.Had a great time here mixing with the locals. Typical type pub, basic surrounds with a small restaurant. Some nice history in some pics on wall and hosts were great. Food hearty and plentiful. Had fab time playing pool, darts and even captivated the entire pub with a Jenga attempt to get to 34 levels. Stayed the night in motorhome Seascape just down road from pub. Thanks kay had a lovely time. Also available is a restored villa. Amazing work carried out by owner to provide quality accomodation. Worth a stop.
S.Hospitality was 1st class and the food was superb, Stayed in the camper overnight in the garden overlooking the ocean if you are in your camper van call in you won’t be disappointed this our third time ….. great place

C.Great experience with very friendly local flavour and sunny lawned outdoor area. Some people bring dogs but we encountered a pet 1mth old baby goat called Memet who kept everyone entertained sitting on laps etc. Great fun

Z.Had a great meal here after a long day on the road. The burgers are big. You’ve been warned. We also met and had photos with Governor the Bar Dog. Definitely worth spending time here.
D.This is a charming country pub. The Scotch Fillet Steak was fantastic, cooked perfectly and nice and tender. The burger we ordered needs work. The Spicy Chicken burger was a real chicken fillet but the spicy sauce was very mild and tasted strongly of capsicum. The resident dog is so cute.
R.We loved Star Tavern. The service and hospitality is so warm (along with the open fire) and welcoming and the food was second to none. The white bait fritters were of course a highlight but everything was top notch. Gov the dog was adorable and he even poses for pictures!!! Thank you all

R.Positioned close to the very tip of the peninsula, surrounded by park-like grounds overlooking the Tasman sea, reef's and small Islands a lovely tavern with good but expensive food served by lovely staff. Definitely worth a visit.

C.My wife and I visited in October 2019 from Scotland whilst staying at the Lazy Seal Cottages, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We had a drink in the bar and chatted with some locals and the owner before having some great pub grub for dinner. There was also a very friendly dog who was a bit of a sook (especially if you had food!)
M.Awesome spot to hang for an afternoon after the Cape Fowlwind Walk. Great selection of beers, the staff and owner are incredibly nice, there’s a pool table, darts, chimney, etc. and the food was great as well. I had the grilled rig & tarbot and I enjoyed both! Next time we’re in Westport we’ll definitely be back. Thank you!

e.Excellent pub food, the owner works there frequently and is super friendly and helpful. I had the grilled (actually pan fried) turbot, which was delicious. Gov the dog is a permanent resident, and worth the trip all by himself.
B.Great place eating outside in garden so dogs are welcome. Loved the food. You can mix you food basket to your taste. The Halibut was amazing. Go there you wont regret it
J.We came into the tavern from pouring rain to a nice fire going and welcomed by the resident cat. The food was fresh, well prepared me served quickly and generous portions. Known for their fish and chips, We felt very at home and enjoyed visiting with some of the regular local residents. Highly Recommended.

D.The quirkiest pub in NZ, ....A wonderful surprise to be greeted on a cold wet miserable night by the barman/publican dressed in his footy shorts & jumper and long socks at the bar right next to the cosy log fire. The pub ceiling is littered with paper money stuck to it by chewing gum, the very friendly local drinkers want to learn all about you and are equally prepared to tell you all about themselves around the log fire. The limited food on the menu is not a hardship as they serve up the tastiest locally caught fish. I'm not certain if they have accommodation as we did not ask about it ...
A real oasis in a very aptly named locality..

A.We entered the restaurant and were immediately welcomed by the owner. He started a nice conversation, while sitting there with his family. He asked us which beer we like and gave us two glasses. For me it appeared as an invitation. I've been totaly dissapointed as i recognized that these two glasses were on the bill. No true hospitality - only business making.
The fish was o.k. but nothing special.
M.A really lovely atmosphere with the motto 'enter as strangers, leave as friends'. I definitely think this place lives by that. A nice bar and restaurant to eat. A few pool tables too.
N.Decent food but this place is more of a bar. We were in the wrong season for whitebait but I bet it's better when it's in season. Staff was friendly and there's lots to do in the garden and the games room. Worth a visit if in Westport.
