We had a pleasant experience at Kushi. From the beginning, the customer service is top notch. The nigiri was very fresh. Our favourite was the soft shell crab roll. Definitely would recommend ❤️

Highly recommend. The foods are awesome, and really love the layout and enjoy the background music in here, these make me feel relaxed.The waiters are very enthusiastic to us and will fill us with water in time and take care of what we need.

There is no other Japanese restaurant in Hamilton if you are sushi or sashimi lovers. Other traditional menu are also fantastic. More than 100% recommended.

We have been living in Hamilton since 2017 and I’ve just heard this restaurant until last week. I’ve missing one of the best Japanese restaurants in town! The environment is amazing and well decorated. The atmosphere looked great and sleek, with fair prices compared with the quality presented. Staff were all Japanese, another rare find in this industry. About the food, we ordered steak, kaarage (fried chicken), spice prawn and tempura. The best was the prawn, tasty and crunch. Overall, our family enjoyed every piece of meal.

We went to Kushi for our Christmas meal, they were very accommodating to all the different dietary needs. Generous portions of good quality food, lovely setting. Thank you to all the staff. ❤️

This is fine dining at it's best. I have eaten at every Japanese restaurant in Hamilton and was keen to try this restaurant. The decor and atmosphere are very classy. The service impeccable. The only downside is the lack of information on the menu about the dishes to explain what you are actually getting. The menu is quite expensive, but you definitely get your money's worth. You definitely feel full and well fed. And the taste!!! Woah!! The photo here is the small shashimi!!! It was amazing 🤩

Best Japanese in Hamilton. Went here with some friends, we ordered Beef Tataki and Karaage chicken for our starters and pork belly, crunch prawn roll and combination tempura for main. Everything was delicious and fresh! Portion sizes were so good. Very good value for money. Will definitely be back and will tell my friends and family about how good this is 😊

Had sashimi plate and karaage to celebrate my birthday, love the food, especially the tempura and karaage, can taste the oil is fresh, no stale oil taste, and the batter was light and crunchy. Hamilton really needs more of this good quality restaurants!

There's a reason this is my Japanese restaurant of choice. The food here is always amazing. The sashimi platters are the best around. We also hasd the chicken nan ban which I shall dream about. The service here is always amazing thought on this occasion they probably missed out on at least a round of drinks from us. Grest value for money. Highly reccomend.

Delicious Japanese food, one of the very best Japanese restaurants in the area. The food is so good as is the service. I visit here often and will continue to do so, it never disappoints.

Kushi never disappoints. The ambience is peaceful and calming, staff provides great service, and the food - wow - is unlike any other Japanese restaurants. I strongly recommend the gyoza, beef tataki, salmon steak (honestly, so memorable every time), sashimi platter, and the plum wine. The freshness of the salmon and tuna cannot be compete with. Because the sashimi are so fresh, you can really feel and enjoy the texture in every bite. It's also very light despite how full your bite is. All thanks to the freshness. Not to mention the presentation. Picture perfect!

Attended for a work lunch. Fantastic service & food. Friendly staff, prompt delivery of food from time of ordering and gins were mixed superbly! Will be back with hubby for a dinner date for sure. Already recommending Kushi to others.

Absolutely delicious food and exceptional service. The rolls were incredible, the hotpot was perfect and the miso lamb was so tender. Probably a place that's good to go with a group so that you can get a bunch of charge plates and try all the tasty meals. Otherwise it's a bit too much of one type of meal. The price is fairly high so be aware of the coming in, but the food is high quality so you get what you pay for

This is my new favourite restaurant in Hamilton and I mean it. I came here and ordered the breadcrumbed cheese, rainbow sushi roll, eggplant, and spicy crunchy shrimp as well as miso soup and rice. The food was absolutely fantastic and I have nothing negative to say at all. Incredibly delicious and the sushi was so luxurious with lots of sashimi and condiments. There is such attention to detail and everything is presented beautifully. It was incredibly delicious. Service was top notch. You are getting an experience. The waitress we had was SO friendly and informative and she could not have been kinder or more attentive. It has a really pleasant more formal/elegant atmosphere. Great for a special occassion or just when you want really amazing food. You do pay a top price but it is completely worth it. I will absolutely revisit this place soon.

Honestly, Kushi is the best Japanese restaurant. The ambient is beautiful the staffs are lovely and the food is next level delicious. Totally recommend it.

Excellent service, food came out unbelievably fast. Very well priced with good sized portions. We had the opportunity to be seated in the booths which added to the atmosphere. Recommend to try the pork belly kakuni and the karaage chicken.

We came here for dinner and it was the most delicious Japanese food I've eaten. The Salmon tataki was incredible, it just melted in our mouths and the house made wasabi mayo was amazing. The service was exceptional and the decor was very cleverly thought out, it kind of transports you to a different place which makes the experience even better. They also validate your parking ticket if you use the carpark.

The quality of food is excellent with a very reasonable price, perhaps even under priced a tad. The staff are very friendly to help with anything you might need. The kitchen is partially open, with the teppan (hotplate) free for you to see when sitting at the bar, where you can watch the expertise of the chef with his utensils flipping and frying meats and other foods- no need to go to an overpriced teppanyaki restaurant! The restaurant is a bit dark but is lit enough to see. The whole restaurant is very clean and overall one of the best restaurants I've been to.

This is one of my fave Japanese restaurants, prompt service, staff are friendly and food always tasty!

The food taste was great and beautifully presented, but kind of a bitter sweet visit, we order sushi and took more than 1 hour to get served so the dinner set meal got cold waiting for the sushi for our kids. The manager was nice enough to give us some complementary food but 1 hour had already passed. Don't known if I will return.

Food and service were great. The Unagi set came with a considerable amount. Fresh sashimi and nice plum wine. Bit pricy with the oysters as 6 of them were $30.

Really enjoyed this restaurant, beautiful booths to eat in, just off queen street so normally not too busy or loud. Excellent staff with quality service. Definitely recommend the Shabu. The soft shell crab was not my favourite.. But that would be the only negative thing about Kushi. Good for groups and family.. also have a good selection of warm and cold sakes..

Service, food, and decor was all fantastic! Quite a lot of variety on the menu (sushi, donburi, bento boxes) and the prices are as you'd expect at a Japanese place (they're pricier more often than not). But loved this place! Any of the bento boxes are great and have huge portions, and desserts are kinda small but beautiful.

This is a really lovely Japanese restaurant with excellent food. There is a great variety of food to choose from including classic Japanese and fusion. If you are a fan of Epsom Sake Bar Nippon like me, this is almost a more upmarket and pricey version, for more special occasions ;)

One of the best Japanese kitchens in Auckland, we are regulars here and they are always friendly and remember us and our favourite dishes!

Lovely atmosphere, with live drums late Thursdays. The meal portions are filling, with excellent flavour, and served piping hot so you can eat at a sedate pace. Their Sake selection in quite reasonable, and well worth the price. I highly recommend this restaurant as a place to eat with friends.

Initially called in for a very quick lunch with work colleagues and advised they were closing in 10 minutes but we were welcome to come in if we didn't mind them clearing up around us - tick number 1 for customer service. had a selection of entree size meals to share - all were amazing - beef tataki to die for, fresh and well chilled sashimi, interesting popped rice kaarage chicken and crispy tempura. Three very satisfied and happy customers who were treated very well. So much so that we decided to return the next evening due to the torrential rain and proximity to the hotel - but also due to the warm and welcoming staff.

Kushi is my favourite restaurant in Auckland. I've been coming to Kushi for years - had at least 3 birthdays here! For simple reasons . . the food is amazing, staff are wonderful and I love the relaxing atmosphere. It's a very versatile space - good for low key dinners or a more formal birthday party, as well as if you just want to meet a friend for a drink. Can't emphasise enough how good the food is and how lovely the staff are. As a vegetarian there's lots of amazing tofu and vegetable options, and I've seen how well the other dishes to down secondhand! The staff are always so friendly and polite and willing to help which is a big reason why I am a repeat customer. They are usually busier on a Friday which is when they do a drumming performance (a highlight!) But I have never had to wait for a table. Reservations are good for larger parties or to reserve the traditional Japanese seating area at the back.

As always, freshly prepared tasty food. The $15 lunch special is money's worth. A relaxxing atmosphere backed by friendly/efficient service

Such an incredible place! The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The food was incredible and everyone we came with had something different to try. There was so much variety and it was all delicious. It's also such a beautiful place, the interior is so cozy. Definitely a must try for everyone!!

I enjoyed myself and had some very tasty food. Place has a nice atmosphere and is suit for small to large groups. It's a nice blend of fusion / classic Japanese food tho if you want real Japanese I don't think this place is for you. If you want a modern take on Japanese then give it a try. I would have given 5 stars but reading and investigating Allan's review made me drop a star due to their commercial practices.

This place is so good!! Everything we got was amazing! Tempura green beans, oysters on the half shell, and scallops for appetizers. Sea bass, ribeye, and flatiron main dishes and a bottle of wine. Every single thing was top notch! Service was great too, impressed by the knowledge of our waitress! Will return when in the area

Happy staff, kids enjoyed watching chief making different varieties of sushi. More importantly they offer delicious Halal sushi. Only downside is being in CBD where parking can be an issue

Good food, authentic Japanese coucine. Dinner is quite expensive. Plenty paid parking nearby. Good interior design and friendly services. We were there Sunday evening, place is 80% full, as our table was out in front corner, we had to get up from our table each time in order to get attention of the staff. This is the only let down. Will return again. Hopefully better and more attentive service next time.

The atmosphere and design of the space inside is amazing it feels like you in a Japanese alleyway; the food does range from $30-$45 but the presentation and favours match the price tag. The staff were friendly and helpful a funny sidenote was thatsome items on the menu were misspelt but overall an amazing dining experience.

Fantastic food, service was great and they really looked after us on a busy night. They were great with our kids and the chef even threw some oil on the grill to light a huge flame for my son who was so impressed. In fact so was I! The presentation of the food was also excellent.

Great restaurant always excellent service, speed and quality. 15 mins tops from ordering our entrees they arrived and then about 10 minutes later our mains came out perfectly cooked.

Had one of there dinner sets which had a great diversity of tastes from Japan. Was very full by the time I finished. Decor reminded me of the place I ate in Tokyo too. Staff very friendly and sincere. Big smiles all round.

One of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve been to. I had the sashimi and nigiri, fish tasted fresh, soft and delicious. The teriyaki chicken is a must do, the chicken is absolutely wicked and sauce delicious. Miso soup was great, tempura was light, and crispy. Panacotta for dessert was great. The service was good, atmosphere was perfect.

Been here twice; once walk-in, once for a birthday. Price is slightly above average but food is always very delicious. Gyoza's are tasty, bento boxes are filling, fish they use is fresh for sashimi and appetizers.

We went for dinner at 6.30pm on a Saturday with 3 adults and 3 children (all about 8yrs - I do realise it's not really a 'family' restaurant). There were other people dining but certainly wasn't packed. The food was delicious but service was very very slow. I'm pretty sure it took over half an hour for extra rice we ordered to be delivered! We were right in front of the kitchen, so not as if we could be forgotten. We figured for adults a leisurely meal was to be expected, but it made it a very late night for the kids, and the adults ended up going short of food as we didn't want to order more and have to wait longer. Frankly the restaurant could have made a lot more money from us - we all had one drink each because no-one came to see if we wanted another. Delicious but disappointing.

We had the Salmon and a Teriyaki Chicken Bento box. The service was awesome, we had a private booth with fast polite service. The food was a level above any Japanese I have had before. Well prepared, beautiful flavours.

Me and my friend were trying to find a place to eat at in auckland CBD and everything was closed (it was only 9:30 pm!) we found this place and were so happy everything else was closed! Very thing is good but can be better...and my ever first time have hot tea in a Japanese restaurant serving in a glass cup...🙈🙈🙈that’s kind of funny... My first time to NZ and I am not sure if the prices are like this...but with this kind of price....(medium size sashimi comes with 15pieces only and it’s 45 something nzd) but I will expecting better quality with this rates... And one of the scallop nigiri...I actually had a very small sand thing in the rice while I bite it...but it’s very very tiny I can’t even split it out but definitely some sand or very tiny rock...this is totally unexpected not even in a take away fast food place! I hope this is just my bad luck for the day! But at least the waitress is nice and suggest us to order 2 more miso soup when we order 2 dinner sets with other items for 4 persons...

The chicken dinner set is amazing! This meal comes with miso soup; a sashimi and maki platter (4 pieces of sashimi and 3 pieces of maki); it comes with prawn, pumpkin, sweet potato, and beans tempura; it comes with a fresh salad; creamy shrimp and broccoli; rice with furikake, the chicken teriyaki, small meatball; and fruits. The dinner sets are very much worth your money. The servers were great. They keep an eye on your miso and sushi platter and as soon as you finish them they replace them with the full meal. They also replenish your water as soon as they see that it needs refilling. The place looks wonderful, they use lots of polished wood elements around the restaurant. I would definitely visit Kushi again.

Better than average Japanese in Auckland. Teriyaki chicken here is amazing. Only down side is you'll be paying a high price for a filled tummy.

Great location and friendly staff..they went the extra mile by having the chef bring out a birthday cake we brought (while i assume singing Happy Birthday in Japanese) for our mates birthday. Only down side is this is a really a Seafood restaurant understandably its Japanese but them putting more effort into adding other selections wouldnt hurt. Its probably the most expensive Japanese restaurant ive been too in New Zealand and in Auckland your spoilt for choice when it comes to Asian cuisines so maybe this wont be your first stop but worth a visit.
