My wife and I had a wonderful dining experience on my wife's birthday. The 3 course meal was great. Each of the dishes provided good flavour and right amount of portions. Very happy with the choice, and definitely worth consideration on special occasions.

Dined on 19/3 for a shared Birthday dinner for the first time in 3 years. And still an Absolutely Beautiful evening and meal! Eye fillet main ordered by both, and cooked perfectly! Made up for a horrible steak experience I have had recently elsewhere. Bread entree and Mushroom Tortellini entree shared with more than enough for two. Lovely having our birthdays acknowledged in a small way by staff, even though it had only been noted once in the initial reservation.

Worth the visit I was unsure if we should squeeze in a lunch in palate before heading back to Auckland and I'm glad we did. We had the 3 course meal and it was really great. The ambiance was really cool how you have an open area with a bit of nature plus the interior of the restaurant has just the right class. The service was just right. We had the tuna and carpaccio for starters and they are both really good just all the texture playing in your mouth as it bursts with flavours. For mains I got the sirloin and my husband got the lamb the portion was just right very well cooked the sirloin is just so delicious O can still imagine it. The dessert we had the pineapple donut and chocolate mousse best of both worlds we really enjoyed how they are both different with each other but we're very very good. love it if ever we go back to Hamilton I will for sure come back for degustation.

Enjoyed a wonderful Birthday dinner for my wife on Saturday. The staff were super friendly from the time we entered allowing us to relax with a drink at the bar before heading to our table. Went for my husbands birthday. We were looking for a proper fine dining experience and we were not disappointed. This place delivers. The service was excellent, the staff knew their stuff. All the drinks, whether mocktail or cocktail were absolutely delicious. We all had a main and dessert and every bite was amazing.

My friends, my husband and I had a wonderful evening last night enjoying the degustation Winter Truffle Menu. We were totally full by the end of our evening and enjoyed each course immensely.

Our favourite restaurant inHamilton. After my husband and I moved away from Hamilton, we still come back on holidays to dine at Palate for special treats! The food is exquisite and the wine pairing is immaculate. Always wonderful service given.

A really lovely steak meal. I think just a few veg or small salad would have been nice with it. Also a delicious donut dessert & coffee to finish it off. Can thoroughly recommend this.

Another wonderful dining experience at Palate. This time to celebrate a wedding anniversary. Reflecting upon the fact that we have dined at Palate regularly since Mat opened the doors down the road in Victoria street, it is an extraordinary achievement that ever meal we have had has exceeded our expectations. Pair the great food with excellent, inobtrusive yet exceptionally efficient service, and you have a dining experience that surpasses most. Palate consistently offer a menu that appeals to both and adventurous diner as well as a conservative one, which is great when your partner prefers a perfectly cooked steak every time you dine out. Excellent wines that will transport you, excellent wine knowledge, lovely atmosphere, great outdoor dining space overlooking the river. We are lucky to have Palate in Hamilton.

We frequently stay at the hotel across the street, but didn't know Palate existed until reading about it in a foodie magazine. We had Chef Mat's seven course degustation menu, paired with wines, served at the table in the kitchen by Mat himself. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The next time we're in Hamilton we'll return to Palate and try a meal from the menu in the main dining area. The view through the windows there looks pretty spectacular.

The food was simply amazing and a tastebud sensation of note! The waitress was professional and attentive. Had a bit of confusion about our order which meant we waited a bit longer than expected but this was taken care of quickly and we got offered dessert on the house. The wine matching service offered truly was a special touch. Great evening out!

Amazing three course lunch, best restaurant in the Waikato. Varied flavours, tasty and perfectly sized meals. All three were flawless and delicious. Will definitely be back.

Lovely food. However this place does not cater to vegans, as there is no vegan options on the meny. Also the 2 courses for $64 is just pointless cause all you save is $1 given that mains are $45 and dessert are $20 kind of a rip off.

Pretty good pan fried snapper w creamed leeks, potato fondant (less crispy and more oily than expected). Ordered side of brocolli w kimchi (lightly pickled cabbage rather than fermented). Nice venue, good staff n wine list.

Review for Valentines Night 2022 for 5 course Degustation dinner with wine match $300 for 2. Wait staff couldn't seem to grasp the concept of wine matched to course, 3 of 5 courses we had to ask or wait (5-10min) for the wine or the dish to be delivered before starting that course. Food was ok, 4th course of eye fillet was excellent. We recently had a 6 course meal at Craggy Range for the same $$, and this was a far superior and an awesome experience. For this Palate meal, definitely not to standard (service let it down) for this price. Admittedly a busy night though.

I booked the kitchen table for me and my partner for a late present and it lived up to every expectation we had! the food was top quality, every dish was amazing and well thought out, I'll most certainly be coming back again!

My husband and I were treated to the chefs 7 course degustation menu tonight. Every course was wonderful. Had the wine pairing aswell which was perfectly matched to each course. The entire meal was phenomenal!! But 3 dishes stood out...the squid; pork and duck; and beef!!Superb!! Thank you to Joel who was responsible for preparing most of our meal. Ka rawe!!

1st time coming to this restaurant tonight and wow is all I can say. I have nothing bad to say about this place AT ALL. The customer service right down to the meals I had tonight, was amazing! Staff very fast, friendly and courteous, the location is neatly tucked away (which I like) and just the whole experience from start to finish was very fortunate and I am very very happy to have spent close to $400 on a very good meal. This place is ranked the best place in Waikato but I’d say it would be a close tie to Gothermburg in terms of meal, customer service etc very very similar for me but am very pleased to have been given the pleasure of dining in at Palate.

Outstanding meal - they have four main courses and we tried two - both were outstanding. The happy hour oysters are amazing.

Palate is possibly the best you'll find in Hamilton. The location of the restaurant is good. The decor and the inside is nice and the staff are helpful, friendly and semi trained. The food was actually better than expected which is always a plus! Well presented and full of flavour was satisfied with most dishes. There actually is only 4 choices for main meal... My one recommendation for food is go for the battered oysters and table recommendation is if you have a group of 4 or more book the wine cellar table and you get your own private dining area.

We were at Palate for my birthday - and family shouted! We had an excellent evening, all enjoyed their main and dessert choices immensely. I had an entree as well - delightful. We appreciated and enjoyed the drinks - the Gewurtztraminer met all expectations. The service was excellent; we would thoroughly recommend Palate for a special occasion - more if you can.

Had a great experience here, the lady who served the table was friendly, helpful and gave good recommendations. The presentation of the food was fantastic and tasted great, might not look like much but the quality was good I left full. It is pricey but you do get you money's worth. Inside is very well kept and modern. Not a place I would go often but definitely for those special occasions.

One of the best meals I have ever eaten! Started with the Natural oysters which were amazing! The Daikon on them was a perfect compliment. My friend and I shared the Gnocchi as an Appetizer and it was so delicious. The flavors were amazing. I ordered the Fish of the Day which was cooked perfectly and was outstanding.

Atmosphere and ambience is amazing, and quality of food is top notch. It is a small menu with every item done exceptionally well. Staff are great and very attentive. Highly recommended

This has to be the best in Hamilton. We always make a point of eating here when in Hamilton and it's always a highlight. Every mouthful is a taste sensation. Perfect portion sizes. The front of house team are warm and attentive without being intrusive. We look forward to our next visit.

Amazing food! The team at Palate were able to cater to our vegan diet and produce some incredible meals. The service was great as was the atmosphere, the only criticism I have was that the meal sizes were on the small side and we left still a bit hungry.

We enjoyed the 5 course degustation meal with wine matches. Highlight was carpaccio. Octopus slightly undercooked. Wood sorrel sorbet was surprisingly good. Food was beautifully presented and fine flavours.

Staff and location were fantastic. I ordered their ribeye main which looked like a sirloin when it came out, was just as chewy as one too. The rest of the meal was delicious and perfectly cooked. This place is worth 5 stars except that I was served a $5 steak for $40.

Superb. Could not fault the meal. Pork belly entree and eye fillet were divine great atmosphere excellent location and outlook over river.We had to top off this great meal with a dessert and got the Rutabaga Brioche with Manila Ice Cream! The food is excellent without any doubt. I cannot recommend the mocktails though because they taste like water with a hint of flavour. The staff is friendly and quick. The room needs certainly some sound management as it is very loud when people start talking at their tables. At the end, we had almost to yell to be understood by our friend sitting opposite of us at not even a meter distance. This was the very reason, why we chose not to stay for another drink.

As always the standard of the food was very good. Have never been disappointed with either the quality or presentation. Friendly table servers and each course arrived an a timely manner.

Post lockdown 5 course degustation and paired wines. This was our second 'welcome back' degustation and like the first delivered in form and content. Ambiance and food on point. While the menu clearly set out the components of the meal we would have welcomed a brief overview from our servers on those items (of which there were many) that had a point of difference. The hubby and I came here for our wedding anniversary : the service was fabulous, and the food delicious. The portions weren't big, but then this is fine dining and both of us felt it was more than enough after we had three courses. We had the venision carpaccio (melted in your mouth), tuna, and for mains the eye fillet, cooked to perfection. A really nice touch was the chcolate written letters 'Happy Anniversary' on my dessert plate (a scrumptious pistacchio ice cream). All in all, we loved it!

First time, staff very friendly, classy but nice relaxed vibe, fine dining at its best. Amazing dishes! Did not disappoint. The food is always beautifully cooked and presented. A limited menu but I can always find something that appeals. We had 9 entrees and the staff were happy to accomodate. Definetly will be back

My fiancé and I are new to Hamilton and so I had no idea where to take him for a nice birthday dinner. We weren't disappointed with my Google search leading us to Palate. It was a superb night out. The waitrons were friendly and super efficient. The atmosphere and ambience delightful. And the food was a gastronomic joy and they accommodated our Keto diet perfectly. We can't wait to visit Palate again, next time with friends and family too.

Fabulous dinner with wine matches that were superb. Special touch written message on our dessert plates saying happy anniversary which was lovely.

Lovely outlook and decor. Table service was excellent. Ask your waiter about what wines are recommended for each dish you choose. The licorice ice cream dessert is worth a try but my choice is the baked Alaska. Would have got 5 stars but reception was not completely ready for guests.

Just had a wonderful dinner at Palate, the service and food were both wonderful. Although they didn’t have any vegan options on the menu, they seemed more than happy to accommodate for me. Both the entree and main were delicious, and they prepared an assortment of their sorbets for dessert. A highly impressive dining experience!

Outstanding food, wonderful presentation, excellent wine matches. We both enjoyed the souffle. For mains my partner had venison and I had lamb, and for dessert we had the chocolate mousse and the ricotta donuts with wonderful basil icecream. Service was attentive but not intrusive. This restaurant deserves its reputation as one of Hamilton's very best.

Was great like always. Fantastic food

Great food and excellent service in a nice setting. The food bit eveny note listed on the menu with full flavours swimming around your mouth. The waitress was able to have a conversation with you about the wines and beers they had. A nice atmosphere inside and at the bar too compliment the deck amongst the mature river side trees. An all round great evening out.

Palate is an extraordinarily sophisticated restaurant. The menu is diverse, but still has lots of promise. Anyone can find something they like on the menu. Service is amazing and quick. The patio has a lovely view and is a great place to dine. Furthermore, it is a great place for a photo. I suggest booking in the evening, round about eight o clock.

The restaurant, service, premesis and food is 5 stars hands down, from the moment you enter their doors the moody scenery and tranquil dining area sets the scene for a romantic meal. Their food was by far the most delectable, mouthwatering morsals which you savor every mouthful. We were seated in what felt like a wine cellar which was awesome as it was the only table. It was a very special experience dining with Palate and we cannot wait to attend again soon.

Very good fine dining experience with decent portion sizes (for fine dining), and great flavours. We had oysters and fish and it was excellent. Service was great. The location is a bit secluded which is pretty cool and there is a lot of natural bush right outside the back outdoor area which is nice in the heart of the city.

Great, friendly service and good wine matching for all the dishes. A beautiful location with the rustling of leaves and cosy lighting creating a perfect hideaway from the downtown bustle. Food was good but just missing a hint of extra refinement that we expected from such an upscale place. A little too much salt on the mains and for one starter the subtler ingredients were overpowered by the addition of fried calamari. Tasty and inventive nonetheless!

You wont find a better dining establishment in Hamilton. The food is fantastic , the service is great. This is world class quality . If you havent been then you should go. The restaurant is well laid out with beautiful chairs and lights. Staff are helpful and know the menu well along with how to match wines. The kitchen table for groups is great you get to see how the meals are prepared and get served by the chefs.

Excellent breakfast, freshly cooked, homemade hollandaise sauce on the eggs Benedict. Best pot of English breakfast tea I've had in Nelson, Friendly service, highly recommend you try it, you'll not be disappointedAwesome - both the food and service. Amazing!! Perfect! best food I have eaten for a long time - well explained on the menu, right taste, right temperate, right amount, beautifully presented. The wine that was chosen to go with the meals was perfectly matched (We usually don't go for these) -Exemplary service from ALL the staff that dealt with us - even afterwards with phone calls. Nothing was too much trouble. Comfortable, private, relaxing atmosphere just what you would expect with fine dining. We will be going back there again.

I had the lamb cutlets. The whole dish was superb. The flavours of all the ingredients were spot on. The desert was delicious and the service was truly amazing. Thanks for the fabulous night.

Excellent food and attentive service. I am an ex fine dining chef and would certainly reccomend this restaurant to anyone wanting a fantastic dining experience. On top of the food the cocktails were also stunning.

We tried the Chefs Table degustation dinner. Can not recommend this highly enough. 7 courses, prepared and served by The Chef (in our case this was Mat McLean). The table for 6 is located in a small room essentially in the kitchen, located behind the service doors. You get to see and hear first hand what a top notch kitchen runs like. The food is of course superb, with bespoke dishes designed on the day depending on what's available. Highly recommend doing the wine matches to complete the experience. Foodie heaven, can't wait to do it again.

As a visitor to the Waikato it was a real treat to discover this gem. Would highly recommend it for a special occasion. Nice food, plated creatively served by expert staff. High end but not excessively so. I need to find an occasion next time I am in town.

Absolutely amazing food!

christmas function a couple of nights ago, amazing. Fantastic, attentive staff, and the best food I have tasted in a long long time. Fish was beautifully cooked, and the desserts were definitely my favourite. I won't be waiting until next christmas to come again that's for sure.

First visit to Palete last night (26/9) was an excellent experience. Fantastic service with very good staff, knowledgeable about their food and drink. Made a special occasion even more special. Food was excellent with a nice ambience too. Look forward to going back soon. Well recommended.

I came in expecting a fancy place and was not disappointed. The venue was perfect, the staff was efficient and attentive but the food was just not what I was hoping for. Make no mistake, it was delicious, it was just not what I had expected.

The food was excellent but I felt the room and the service lacked charm and the lighting and ambiance was poor.

Best dining experience in hamilton. Food and service was on point. It didnt feel like a regular nz restaurant as far as service goes. They even had kid meal choices for mr 3 that were not listed on the menu but offered.We will definatley be back here. Its nice to find somewhere we enjoy which we can also take our well behaved toddler.

Very elegant venue. Food expensive but well worth the cost. I would recommend it for anyone who wanted to be able to converse without straining your voice while enjoying an excellent meal.

Most ambient atmosphere one can find in Hamilton. Staff are all professional and well mannered. The $25 lunch deal is great but it doesn't really offer much option. Some items are better than the others.

Service was great. The crab that came with the fish was delicious. The dark Belgium chocolate fondant was good, I'd rather have a sweeter ice cream with it though.

The ambience set for a relaxed and intimate dinner, even with two small children. Food lived up to its reputation with even the smallest enjoying their dinner. Prices are very fair for the quality of food.

Over salted mains. I had the pork belly, which was tasty but found the dish unbalanced, everything was rich with nothing to cut through. Nice setting otherwise with good service and an air of "exclusivity".

Outstanding . Possibly the best entree I have ever eaten. Perfect for a corporate lunch dinner or romantic/ special occasion. High end. Well done Palate Hamilton. Will be back

It was excellent!!!! Rather expensive, but what a special night it was. The food was delicious, the staff great, and atmosphere was excellent.

Between 4 of us we tried nearly all the mains and desserts available and they were all amazing. The wasabi mayo with the oysters was incredible, as was the liquorice ice cream. Recommended for special occasions.

Food was good but our table was by a window and it was quite cold. Also lighting was very poor - had to use phone torchlight to read the menu and to see what we were eating.

Service is always great and food is top notch the majority of the time. Highly recommend.

I came here 2 years ago with dietary requirements that they met with incredible food that was well worth the money. Unfortunately I came back tonight and the experience wasn't the same. Left feeling hungry.
