I came here with my family on Friday. We had a lot of steaks with different cuts: t bone, sirloin, scotch fillet. And we also ordered not steak dishes: duck pappardelle and pork ribs. All and all, the steaks were just ok. I thought the best cooked was the scotch fillet because it came medium rare. The other two steaks were closer to medium or medium done, which weren’t great to be enjoyed. I absolutely love the bake loaf starter though and the pork ribs weren’t half bad. Giving this place a three star because it’s a steakhouse and for a steakhouse, their steak should be perfect.

All right, here I go.. Walked into the welcoming friendly atmosphere of Smith & Mc Kenzies at Chartwell Hamilton. The vibe is awesome. This is definitely, one of the best Steak eateries establishments I have been too. They also have the non steak menu if you want😏. Side dishes to choose from, so I had seasonal greens, broccoli 🥦 and cauliflower 😋 Yummo. Your pick of sauce/sauces to accompany your meat main. Starter for me was the smoked fish and mussel chowder which had a lightly toasted bread and on the side a wedge of lemon. Now get this, I squeezed some lemon onto a portion of the chowder and guess what? Phenomenal to my taste buds. My daughter cannot wait to come try it. Also as a starter had the chicken cabbage dumplings ×3. My thing man. Sitting in soya sauce garnished with crisp slices of heaven.😇 Waiting staff totally awesome and ensuring my comforts were met, they rock. Attentive, friendly and so restful. As I dined alone, I had a very special table away from the many patrons, yet still able to enjoy the ambience of it all. Chat with other dinners, you know what I'm talking about.. The happy families, the friends dinning together after work, the group function up stairs, the all. Of cause I was on me phone spreading the word and totally looking like that one that has to take pictures of everything. Not sharing all on here. Rib eye steak, medium rare, with roasted garlic sauce which I let the chef suprise me with, was a great decision. Wow. Must try the mushroom sauce next time but have it on mashed potatoes as well. Alas, I had no room for dessert but the magaritas also the cranberry juice was enough for me. Why the five stars? Literally best recommendation ever. Thank you my friend. You know who you are🤩. Lastly.. there is a bell at reception to give the chef a shout out and a gratuity for the amazing work done behind the scenes so we enjoy our meal, our time and the deliciousness of it all. Ring that bell next your there. Worth it and totally amazing...

My Favourite restaurant! The waitress that we had was absolutely amazing, she was serving multiple tables (food, drinks) going back and forth and held a friendly manner and a smile while doing so. Recommended a beautiful red wine that complemented my meal. Food was fast and delicious! Absolutely amazing environment and service, I highly recommend.

The chicken I had wasn't that nice, a bit dry but the steaks apparently were really yummy. All the other dishes we had (dumplings, share platter, sides like onion rings and mushroom, kids meals) were yummy too and good size portions.

Now if you want an awesome dining experience then S&M is the place to go. Ambiance and awesome food is what you can expect even though the price might be slightly more than other restaurants. A must do no matter what!!! Keep it up guys 👍👍👍

This has been my go to place for steak for awhile now. I don't think there's any better for a good steak however there are other options beside steak which are just as good. We came here for my wife birthday celebration. Its under new management so obviously there will be changes, not sure what they will be, the decor is a bit tired and dark and the menu needs freshening the food maybe good but the choices haven't been changed in a while, the negative of the night, mum found a piece of plastic in her main meal, we showed our waitress who was very apologetic however no sign of management just an offer of a free drink. If mum had eaten that plastic she could of choked, mum excepted the drink, if it was my wife she would of sent it back. To be fair we have been going here for a long while now and nothing like this has ever happened before, I just hope that because of the new management that this isn't a sign of things to come. I surely hope not.

Had seafood chowder and passionfruit cheesecake, food was on point, generous servings junior staff work very hard an very efficent. Husband had tbone steak m/rm sauce an sticky date pudding. You cant fault the food maybe a bit pricey but I think its money well deserving, atmosphere also very good.

A really nice place for date night - the atmosphere is classy and the steak was to die for! Server was really helpful, my partner was trying their first proper steak. Aaliyah was friendly and approachable, and knew the right questions to ask - their recommendation was right on the mark! 10/10 experience, will certainly be back!

Experienced great service and great food. The steak was cooked perfectly and was a good size. Staff were very attentive and efficient. When we arrived the restaurant was empty but filled up very quickly over lunchtime. Obviously popular with the locals.

Was one of the best steakhouse in Hamilton. On my most recent visit I've felt the quality has fallen somewhat. I had the Signature Steak which never disappointed before, but this time round it was much more dry than I recalled, almost chewy (it only comes in medium). I'm glad they've changed the side dish for the steaks back to anything on the menu rather than just fries/mash, but I'm missing the truffle oil fries. Used to get 2 sides with the signature, but only one now. It's difficult, but I've had to reduce my rating by 1 for the above reasoned. Perhaps the next time I dine there I'll have my mind changed. PS - wouldn't order the Paella, it was quite heavy on what tasted like turmeric (which I like usually) and had an almost watery consistency.

Atop quality place for a special occasion. The food was to die for, the staff very pleasant & helpful & we had a curtained of area for our party of 10, all seated around a big square table. Linen napkins even! Just excellent in every way! Beware the skinny couple outside who con people though. It’s a target area for them, I’m told by a local, who met them there some 6 months ago. He’s quite the actor, & his story was different this time round.

Highly recommend Smith & McKenzie! Stunning food, amazing environment, an overall great experience. After dinner my family & I moved over to the bar enjoyed a few more drinks. A great selection of wines and beer, along with cocktails. However, very accomodating to anything that isn’t on their drinks menu so don’t be discouraged. Taste of Summer Cocktail is a vibe though! To the waitress who was having a rough night on the 22/01/2022, chin up girl, you are doing a great job and you didn’t deserve what happened to you. I appreciate you and your strength to keep going and remember not all people are like that, I spoke to you at the bar after seeing you in tears & it broke me. Well, if it's steak you are looking for, look no further. I had a rubbed 400g T-bone medium rare and it was perfect. The wife had the scotch filet and it too was truly different. Sides were very good well. The sauces, just OK, but with steak this way it's a bit silly to put sauce on it. Other items on the menu were equally as good. Next time it's the 500g prime rib. Best steakhouse we have found in the Bay/Waikato in a looong time.

Very enjoyable meal with friends, not too noisy so were able to converse easily. Food was great apart from one steak meal that was very tough, staff handled this extremely well, providing another steak that was also tough, leading us to believe that it was more likely the meat itself rather than being badly cooked. They took the price of the steak off our bill and our friend was happy to have a dessert. All in all a wonderful evening.

Went to this restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday. We ordered the eye filets. The sides were delicious to include the mushroom sauce on top of the mash. Our waitress also gave us a great recommendation for a Cabernet Sauvignon bottle The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is that my husband's filet had fat gristle in the middle. Once the wait staff were notified, a new steak was fired and the replacement was very good.

I thought the food was so so. Not bad but not fantastic either. I was actually a little disappointed given it's one of the must-eat in Hamilton. The T-bone came with a choice of 1 side and a sauce. I chose the blue cheese which was pretty good and I really liked my side of Kumara fried (aka sweet potatoes fries) with aioli sauce.

Outstanding food. The steak is brilliant, obviously, but the mac n cheese that I've had twice now is outstanding. I don't know how they do it (it's not hard, apparently) but it's the best mac n cheese that I've ever had. Twice. Would definitely go back, and will.

They did say it was 400g on the menu, but i didnt expect it to be that huge, small bone. Meat was so tender, smoked n cooked perfectly. Really happy with it. Other people in my group ordered ribs, eye fillet n scotch fillet. All cooked to perfection.

Steak was average. It was tender but tasted like it had been Sou-vide cooked (basically boiled in a bag) and then thrown on the grill at the last minute. It tasted stewed/boiled and not what I was expecting of a $39 250gm scotch fillet. Just over all lacked flavour and usually scotch is the second most flavourful steak IMO.

We had asked if the warriors game would be on and if we could be seated near & when we got there all of the above was done and the game was turned on just from our request! So it's a steak place, but not as you know it. Portions are small, and everything is an extra or side. The wine list isn't too bad, but needs a bit more expanse to compliment the number of dishes. Can be noisy at times.

Family of four, two toddlers. this place was quiet kid friendly as in stuff tolerate everyone's kids just being kids. Food was nice desserts were nice, drinks were good, friendly stuff and willing to give great customer service when they are busy. Overall lovely experience.

We decided to pick this place for my sons 21st birthday as he loves a good steak. The staff seemed a little disorganised. It wasn't overly busy. Euan was our server, very friendly and polite. The steak wasn't all we expected. We had to send a couple of plates back because they were very undercooked. They were taken with the veges and when returned, only came back with the steaks minus the veges. My seasonal veges were cauliflower and beans. Carrots 🥕 would have been nice with these. Both were very very crunchy and could have been steamed longer. My steak was over cooked when I asked for medium rare. 😔 The entrée of Coromandel Mussels was also ordered as a shared starter. This also was a sad disappointment. The sauce was placed in the bottom of the plate and the rubbery mussels were put ontop. Some mussels were overcooked, some were undercooked. The beards were not removed either. Given 3 stars ✨ because we had a great server. Thank you Euan ☺

We ordered a steak and later asked for a different sauce and the server was looking at us odd... we would be happy to pay for additional cost of the sauce if thats what she was concerned about.

Spent my birthday dinner here with the wife. Took a while to get entertained from the door, then waited another 20 minutes to place our order. Steak was good quality meat, but taste could be improved. Wife's side dish was served very late because they forgot about it, but it was nice of them to take it off our bill. Beautiful ambiance on the inside of the restaurant.

Been here many times, with mixed results but it seems they have lifted their game since we last went about a year so ago, when it was so 'average' at best. This time it was very good. The Beef Short ribs are superb with plenty of smokey BBQ flavour. The chicken was moist and succulent. The deserts where all good. This is a good place for family dinner. Lots of menu options, even for kids. Hopefully the food and service will be this good next time.

Excellent steak, maybe a bit pricey, but the atmosphere is fantastic the service is outstanding and prompt. Can't fault anything. It is one our favourite steak houses, and my extended family (business owners themselves) agree. They frequent this establishment, too.

I had a really pleasant experience here recently. We celebrated my grandads 90th in the private room upstairs. Well worth the money. Plenty of space for all who attended. Intimate atmosphere. Food was yummy, pork was delicious! My Grandad really had an amazing time. The wait staff were professional and had awesome customer service. Even taking photos for us. Would absolutely recommend hosting functions here :)

Have been a few times but mainly for beer and nibbles which have always been good. Particularly the chicken tenders are great. Staff have always been nice and they have a cool indoor/outdoor area which is awesome in summer.

This is a great steakhouse in Hamilton. As steak is their specialty we had two eye fillets and one t-bone, which was cold smoked and had a strong seasoning flavor. All steaks were cooked perfectly to order and were juicy and flavorful. We also ordered a salad, roasted potatoes, slaw, mashed potatoes and seasonal greens. The slaw was outstanding. It was a creamy slaw but not overly so. Everything was crisp and full of flavor. The mashed potatoes were fantastic as well, extra buttery and creamy. Overall, a great choice for steak.

This is our go to place for good service and food. Went last night for a birthday dinner and was great. They were pretty busy, steaks were cooked perfectly and the service was awesome (we can be quite a demanding lot!) Well done guys!!

Unbelievable meals!!!! Cant fault the service at all. Young attentative staff experienceced in dealing with people of all types. Great place for families and couples and even just simply to have a couple of cold ones with your mates. I must say the service we received from one of the staff by the name of Louise was simply outstanding. She was always there when you needed assistance or a beer. Never had to wait and she was always smiling and the deliverance and follow up of how the meals were was outstanding. I had the 200g Angus eye fillet with potato gratin and seasonal veggies with green peppercorn sauce. Best ever. Bookings required for busy periods.

However, if I could make a suggestion. If there's cheese cake on the menu, make a real one. Regardless, I would return for the steaks, ribs and slaw.
