S.Note to everyone who wants the pizza: the large size is LARGE alright. Calamari and fried chicken is also top notch.
K.Staff were great, and the $60 sharing platter was amazing!!! In fact, next time we book (family of 4 adults) we will order two mixed platters - I mean, the other mains were pretty good but the platter was superb. Two mixed platters will feed the 4 of us easy. Desert was pretty special too. Cheers
L.I had the most amazing 21st birthday party last night thank you the amazing team at roaming giant. Although I do need to make a special shout out to Helen the most amazing server! She was behind our bar all night and truly went above and beyond to make our experience truly amazing. Everyone loved the food, the atmosphere was great and Helen’s service really just topped it off. Thank you so much to Helen and the rest of the team for making my night unforgettable.
C.First time. Lunch menu. Work team outing. Got checked for my vaccine pass. Everything's good.
Off street parking, good venue, nice setup, plenty of space indoor and outdoor. Not recommended in the heat of a summers day as it was humid with little airflow, even though we sat in the outdoor sheltered space. Colleagues tried hiding the sweat creeping up around the hairline, minus half a star.
Ordered the Large Plate of Salmon fillet salad (minus the salmon) (I'm on a detox, shush). Asked for kumara to be added into the salad - wasn't charged extra for this which was lovely! Asked for no feta (again, detox), but alas, feta showed up. Minus half a star
Picked out the feta with immaculate precision, and aside from that, the food was great. I left my large platey-bowl bare. Washed it down with some water. Was only $17, had a free complimentary after meal mint, and still had $3 for a sweet treat after!
Would go back again in cooler weather 😊
A.Great place, the sharing platter of small plates was a great size for 5-7 people. We did have to wait a while to have someone come to take our main orders. But the food was delicious and came out quickly.

T.Big venue and very popular. We had great service and good food. They have great deals - we got the $25 burger and beer combo (and chips!). They also do jugs of beer/cider and have a good range of options. Donut brownie sundae was also amazing!

B.Pleasantly surprised with the menu and food. Great service from this place. Plenty of seating inside and outside (under cover). Car parking available at the back which might be easy to miss as the drive it between 2 buildings. The bread and meal combo is very generous!

T.We live nearby so the restaurant is always a go to for us, never been able to fault the service and food. This evening after ordering drinks and three sides we noticed only one plate came out to us and there was a significant delay of the others. After bringing it to the attention of one of the staff they acted swiftly and apologised, offered us complimentary drinks and even discounted our meal at the till afterwards. Exceptional customer service and a great example for other businesses, a credit to management and staff individually.
B.Atmosphere was great, lots of seating, not much parking. Staff were friendly. Crispy fried squid would be the yummiest and hottest dish we had, although all dishes we ordered were full of flavour, we were just really let down by the temperature of the food. It was all cold, could have imagined the pork belly to have melted in my mouth if it was nice n hot! But it was quite greasy. Same as lamb dish, was hoping meat would fall apart or be easily shredded but i I definately needed a knife for this. No complaints about the prok schnitzel, my partner cleaned his plate. Loved the salmon salad also! Lemon lime bitter drink had a bit too much bitter but they were happy to hold back on that as asked by us on our next jug. Brownie was very rich and sweet, way too sweet for me to take more than a bite from, passionfruit cheese cake on the other hand was quite tangy and sour but everything was able to be brought home in take away dishes.

L.I enjoyed my night out with work colleagues. Had great service from the 2 people assigned to our table but was at a lost to paying $36 for 6x coke drinks...Oh, that came with ice. I did question this and had a generic response (but was it, really?)..."that's what it is," or something like that. We did have a couple of colleagues that left and forgot to pay, but that's all good. I don't mind paying for someone I work with if that's the reason. $6 seems a bit steep or is it just me?
R.Great kids menu! Kids got to assemble their own tacos and shake the seasoning and their fries together, plus the magical lemonade had to be mixed at the table. Pretty impressed!
M.I had a lovely catch up with a good friend. We enjoyed the $25 deal of three soft tacos with a drink. The tacos were beautiful and I enjoyed them very much, they were not very warm, that was a pity, but we enjoyed our time and the staff was friendly.

L.One of my favourite places to eat out in Hamilton. Delicious food and a great range to choose from with great customer service, also family friendly where the kids can do activities on paper like a maze, and colouring in. I forgot to take photo's of my main which was a generous portion of Nachos, would make a good share platter. Flavours were on point with a bit of heat. The desserts were pleasing to the eye and the boysenberry pudding was rich and delish! Satisfied once again :)

The service is always terrific and the meals are good and generous.
Sadly, the main change between visits was that smokers could stand at the outside bar, which is not separated at all from inside, and the cigarette smoke was very strong when sitting inside... I had to ask to be moved around the corner to get away from it.

S.Nice atmosphere, has off-street parking though not enough, open expansive bar setup, serves the usual gastro pub menu. Service was quick and friendly. The house merlot was pretty good for $6 a glass between 4 - 6pm. I had a scotch fillet which was really quite good though cost an eye-watering $39. Overall a pleasant experience on a Thurs night though I imagine it's much busier on Fridays and weekends. I would definitely come back.
B.We went for a birthday and had the 2 hour brekky drinky deal. Drink and eat for 2 hours set fee. Set menu and drinks but it was good. Just parking a bit of a mission the day we went as an event across the road. Staff were good seating etc good. Sports on tv. Toilets were smelly old smelly at that otherwise 5 stars
A.Dropped in for lunch to reconoite and enjoyed a burger and chicken nibbles with a beer & wine. Good friendly service and okay food. The main event upstairs from 6pm was attended by about 50. The function was well managed and the staff very friendly and responsive. Highly recommend
A.First time here for a Valentine's day lunch with family and in-laws; we ordered salmon salads, a lot of the burgers on offer, and nachos. Perfectly cooked beef, salmon tasted fresh, and our server was attentive and sweet. Menu is small so we were very confident the food would taste fresh and were not disappointed. Would return next time we're out Claudelands way.

K.Dined here for lunch with a group of 15. Service was friendly, efficient and professional. Meals arrived in a good time and everything was absolutely delicious and good sized portions. It was so good that my husband and I went back today (less than a week later) for his birthday lunch. Again the food was delicious and filling and the staff were welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend.

R. Giant provided just that! Great atmosphere with a variety of table seatings to suit small or large groups, Compliments to the chef, menu offered good variety meals not overly priced, Front of house, bar staff all friendly and amazing service, and good parking around the back.

B.The food is good, although a little pricey for pub style food. Inside is nice and cosy, but is extremely noisy making it difficult to have a conversation. The staff were very friendly.

K.The food here is great. Quality ingredients, well cooked and a decent range of options on the menu. It was quite noisy when we had dinner, which made conversation difficult but that was mainly because there was a lot of people there. I've been before at lunch time and it was quieter then. It's not the place for an intimate dinner, but is great for drinks, groups or casual dining. We will definitely be back again.

R.Yummo - the food was delicious. Loved the live band playing in the background. We had a brand new staff member serving us and she was awesome. Look forward to returning here and trying something different on the menu next time. Only negative was the soap in the ladies bathroom had run out - which I told a staff member about and it hadn't been attended to over an hour later. Bathroom facilities lovely and clean.

R.Had a medium sized booking for my wife's birthday and the staff were really accommodating. We had a nice evening inside, it was warm and the atmosphere was buzzing. There were some screens to watch the game, and the food was good value for money (specials are a must). The staff kindly prepares our pre bought cake too. Lovely experience.

* Large venue with a spacious environment.
Not so positives:
*We were seated on a bench seat by front window right underneath 2 air conditioning vents. Big industrial ones. It was frickin freezing but place was fairly busy with lots of reserved tables. Didn't want to be that couple so we ate quick and left.
* Unfortunately my partner's lamb shank was grissly and not tender but veges and gravy were pretty good.
Overall, it's family friendly and we'll give it another go sometime.

M.As a first time visitor my expectations were pretty high - and mostly those expectations met. Very helpful, pleasant, friendly staff. Enthusiastic and flexible staff made some challenging moments disappear.
Easy to find location with 50+ off-road parking spaces. Spacious (cavenous) facility with grand range of beers, good range of refreshments. The range of menu items enable fast and efficient kitchen service. Very satisfactory potions and tastes today.
Cavernous facility has an acoustic and sounds management issue. Constant din even half full, and polite conversations were challenging at times.
B.I went there for lunch and the menu wasn't very impressive. When we came in, the host straight away seated us which was excellent. The waiters were a bit too casual about the job In terms of meal checking their tables and offering desserts and other drinks. It wasn't worth the price at all and we definitely won't be returning
G.We shared the giant platter before dinner, then we were full and we didn't order any more. The platter was excellent! The pizzas on the tables around us looked and smelled great too. Next time we'll skip the platter and go for the steaks!

T.Good atmosphere, friendly service with fast food. However the chips with the fried chicken burger were under cooked (they recooked them and the recooked batch was great!)and the goliath pizza was underwhelming. Fried chicken taco on the other hand was very nice.

Wow what an improvement. Our waitress was amazing so polite. All food on the menu was available, everything was really good.
So I’ve changed my review as five credit where it’s due and they deserve credit.
Start with the good. The pizza was okish but the good stops there. The standard of service was poor, dirty plates with bits of food still on them x 2 plates, asked for chicken to be entree arrived with mains, many items off the menu not available, the chicken dropped into my lap now we know accidents happen however this was just poor service I was at the end of the table no one to reach over a simple put the plate down on table. Just inattention. Sat with piles of dirty plates till we left. Also No pork or pork belly dishes as well as no mussels available to order.

Only downside is the acoustics - the place gets very noisy. So maybe one day the owners may want to look into some way of dampening the sound characteristics of the place.

G.Went to The Roving Giant For a Sunday Brunch, yes it was busy but the service was great Drinkies arrived very quickly and only a 13 minute wait for the food. Service was efficient and courteous, can not fault anything. Having just had a leg amputated I found plenty of room to move between tables which was great..... Not like some restaurants in Hamilton. Will go there again. 😎🍷

D.Must be the top restaurant in Hamilton. Delicious menu. Comfortable atmosphere. Large venue with a great outdoor space. Good range of beverages. Great private space for hire, although they could be more reasonable to community groups wishing to hire this space as it is very costly.
D.Love it here, friendly staff, cold beer and they always bring my dog a carrot and a bowl of water. Food is good and they have a good sheltered outdoor aria for us dirty smokers. Good atmosphere and they often have live music. Also it's rare to see people getting absolutely hammered and making a kerfuffle.

D.Great food, very fast service, awesome deals on Sunday that's are some of the best in the city but watch out for parking that fills up in the evening. Good live music too. The $5 pizzas are an awesome deal and on Thursdays they have buy one get one burgers in the evening
M.Good value pub grub menu, service is always fast. The girls that work there are sexy, nice mannered and always give good table service. Downers: The price of a domestic pint again starts at $10, rip off !, the music/ one man band is always pretty boring.

T.Went for brunch this morning. Ordered 3 small plates, squid, fish balls and pork belly. Shared by two. Sooooo delicious. Finished with a doughnut brownie with ice cream to share. Wow. Excellent service from Blessy and Gary, excellent food, great prices and a lovely environment. Definitely going back.

L.The service and food were really good. I was a little disappointed that there was cigarette smoke wafting about while my family and I were dining.
T.We went there on a Saturday night. A rugby game was playing on multiple screens - would not have thought that this is a sports bar, but ok. No escaping though if you're not into rugby and just went there for the food and a chat.
Food was delicious - when we finally got it, as the waitress forgot to place our order. When we noticed that the people who came after us had their food delivered and we had not even had drinks yet, I went to the counter and asked how much longer our order might take. The staff member asked "What time did you order?" - sorry I didn't actually look at the time, but it's been a while... They later apologised and said order hadn't been put through. Then when I ordered a dessert, another table's order was delivered to us and my partner started eating it, not knowing it was wrong, as I was in the bathroom at the time. We had to pay for the wrong dish. Overall I didn't get the best impression from the quality of staff. But food was good.

R.The Roaming Giant is a handsome new building only a few minutes walk from the middle of town and directly across from the Claudelands event centre. The well-appointed interior is suitable for groups of any size. Alternatively you can dine outside to enjoy the afternoon sun.
The customer-facing staff of lovely young ladies are all friendly and helpful. The menu represents a classic kiwi dining experience: Everything you'd expect to see is there. Just fancy enough that you know it's a real restaurant but not so fancy that you can't tell what anything is. The food is of good quality though perhaps somewhat overpriced.
The star of the show, at least for me, was the Cheesy Garlic Loaf. Do try one if you get the chance.

B.We when there August 9th 2016 (from St. Johns Newfoundland Canada) when this restaurant was newly opened to the area. We had nachos, a salmon and chicken dinner cooked to perfection. And the desert is great too. All n all great warm and friendly service great time and great food = wonderful experience.

Unfortunately they do allow smokers in the outdoorish open area and the smoke goes into rest the restaurant - we have someone in our group with lung cancer and slightest smoke sets her off coughing so we had to leave at that point - be great if no smoking was allowed in the restaurant esp given smoking is in fairly covered area thats not really outside as such.

I.The 12 Hour Slow Roasted Sirloin Steak was literally to die for. It melted in my mouth. The muscle pot was also great. The muscles were a good size. Some meals arrived cold though. Given that we had a party of 12 this could have been due to inattention of serving staff, but was quickly addressed.

6.Geat food decent priced for what you are getting. It is a costly outing but you will be talking about the food you had there for days to come. Defiantly worth the $80+ pp that you'll pay. One of my go to places that i go to when I have a good pay week or something to celebrate.
I would (and have) recommend this to anyone that has the money to splerge on a nice meal.
It is kinda a bit more bar/restraunt then restraunt/bar but as long as aesthetics aren't too much of a problem then I recommend 100%
For a good meal I suggest the 12 hour slow cooked steak, bit on the pricey side but 100% worth it.

It is conveniently located across the road from Claudelands Event Centre and is a great place for a pre-event meal or after work drinks.
