Food was tasty and the portions was more than generous. We ordered a variety of items and got them one by one, so my only gripe here is that is was not served all at ones. Two mistakes got made, one was that we ordered samosas and got spring rolls and that the mix meat souvlaki with hot sauce was only chicken with no hot sauce. Regardless, the food was very tasty and we all enjoyed it.

I went past the previous day and it smelt so good that I had to go and give it a try. The food is well presented and tasty. We ordered the snack basket, chicken souvlaki and beef souvlaki. It's kind of like a kebab, but different. Great service. Eat in or takeaway available

Had takeaway salads from here last night. The chicken salad was very tasty with chicken that was well cooked. There was perhaps a little too much vinaigrette but not a deal breaker. The fries were hot and tasty.

Huge feast, really delicious and generous servings. The mixed meats were all yum, and my partner was super pleased with the falafels. Really needed something with salad this holiday and this really hit the spot, very fresh and tasty. Oh and the chips were good nice and crunchy :)

We wanted a change from the normal pub food around Hanmer Springs. Tried Petra and was not disappointed. Son and wife ordered the falafel souvlaki which was delicious and generous. I had the chicken iskender. Chicken was tender and was really tasty. Rice was cooked beautifully too. Daughter wasn't that hungry and just had some of the mixed basket which was probably the only downside as it seemed to be just the run of the mill deep fried nibbles you can get anywhere. That aside I would highly recommend Petra's.

Lovely little shop that serves up huge plates of fresh, delicious food! The owner is always friendly and welcoming. We visit every time we're in Hanmer for a good feed 😋

We ordered wraps it was amazingly good.The portion size was unexpectedly big for the price we pay.Excellent experience eating here the out door ambience was good. My family loved it..we will eat here again when come and visit Hanmer Spring next time. Regards Sherryl

Was a bit of a wait for food, but fair enough as only three people working. Lamb souvlaki was flavourful with generous portion size. Very nice atmosphere inside and the owners are very friendly.

Ordered their meat on chips and rice, Taste was good.. chicken was better then lamb (lamb was a bit under cooked) also I found staff behaviour a bit cold but I will give them another go as they have plenty of other options nice out door sitting and they were serving Halal meat

This is one of my go to places 10/10 the service is incredible they're such a friendly team and greet you with a big smile every single time. Yeah kebabs at the best of ever had and are packed with flavor.

What a hidden gem! From the outside this place doesn't look like much but once you get your food... it's to die for! We from Auckland and we have our favourite kebab stop there but this tops it all (especially for a small town). The Iskander had flavourful rice, fresh meat and fresh salad. My partner had a souvlaki and the wrap and the lamb was tender, just the right amount of sauce and the bread was yum and fresh. Can't speak highly enough of this place. We will be back again before we leave Hanmer!

had to go twice when on holiday, they serve great souvlaki! juicy chicken, great seasoning and lots of veg very nice hummus and baba ganoush! Also nice outside seating with many flower (and few trucks that kept toddler occupied, top!)

Super good quality. The ingredients are as fresh as they can get. I am Greek - used to souvlaki and I can safely vouch for this place. What is more, the portions are pretty massive for the same or better price of most other places in the area. Highly recommended!

Food was delicious. I initially thought that it's pricey but when I got my order I found it was worth my money. Had to wait a little however good food can take time.

Must have come in on a bad day because all the meat was very tough, so tough I could barely get my plastic fork into it. However the service was friendly and the place was clean so I'd definitely give it another try

This place is the best! Best kebab on rice I have ever eaten. The portion was massive, the flavours were amazing. Food super hot and fresh. All 4 of us were impressed and would definitely come back. The man who runs it was so lovely and really friendly.

Friendly staff, the food was okay. Meat portion in the salad and souvlaki was too small compared to other places. Too much garlic aioli in the souvlaki.

These are great Souvlaki! These dudes are from Jordon and make them with love : yummy creamy garlic yoghurt sauce, tahini in the hummus and none of that cheap and nasty meat. Thoroughly recommend, this is a souvlaki that tastes great even when you’re not drunk :) these guys also have great chat. We’ll come back.

Great place and the lady kept her nerves and served us even though her husband was in Christchurch at the mosque when the breaking bad news happened on the 15th march and we stayed and made sure she and her husband were ok and not affected from what turn out to be one of the darkest days of Nz before we had to rush back home to Christchurch ourselves.

We had lamb, beef, falafel souvlaki for a family of 4. We all loved our meals and would go back again. Service was reasonably prompt and the meals are a good portion. If you like Greek food this is a great place to eat.

Really friendly staff, quick to take order and deliver food. Really tasty massive kebab which was delicious. Also tried the Greek salad which was also huge and super tasty. Highly recommend and would return.

Lot of good quality ingredients and care given to preparation. I would enjoy even more if some more herbs/spice were added to the meat.

Best Souvlaki in NZ!! Haven't had that since visiting Jordan, Auckland doesn't have anything close to this fresh food, there was kebabs, fresh falafel, souvlaki and hummus!! Highly recommend owner was really friendly too, fully halal 😉

Delicious home made food and very friendly service. We had mullabel dip with pita and some salads and all were so good! The outdoor sitting area is nice and sheltered too.

One of the best authentic middle Eastern style food we have tried. We had the hummus meat with pita bread. Great bread and great hummus. Very friendly, great service, would be a regular if only we live nearby.

Excellent kebabs here. Lovely fresh salads the lamb was really tasty and the homemade hummus reminded me of one I've eaten on the border of Jordan years ago. I don't often give 5 stars but this was middle Eastern food done great. Shame I don't live nearer. Look forward to my next visit.

Absolutely delicious! My family always gets food from this place when we are in Hanmer Springs for a day or whole weekend. Portions are huge, everything is fresh and tasty. Highly recommend.

Amazing food. Falafel is the best I've had in NZ soooo good. Hummus and meat plate - delicious. Kids chicken suvlaki fantastic! Just what a kid wants and a much better option than fish n chips. Staff is friendly, there's a baby high chair It has a nice outdoor seating area 😋

Nice food that was mixes lamb and chicken

Just showed up at 9.30pm at night after a long day filming a wedding across the road. Was greeted by the loveliest guy (& son?). I love food vendors that love their jobs - even late on a Saturday night. 5 Stars - awesome place.

Really impressed. Lovely guy served us. Great food & excellent value. I had a half size & it was bursting with super fresh salad veges & meat. Esp loved the gherkins... Nice touch. Highly recommend.

Have been here twice now, both times the falafel souvlaki was amazing, best I’ve ever had!. Second time service was rude. Prices are “up there” but as expected for a remote tourist town

Food and coffee ☕ was good, not great. There was quite a delay between 2 peoples meals and the others. Also they closed at 2pm but had shut the coffee machine down at 1:30 so I couldn't get a take away coffee. It was a very busy day for them but I did find the service rather short and uninviting

Extremely friendly staff, probably the best I've ever seen at a restaurant like this. Had the chicken salad and it was amazing. Went with many others who got various souvlakis and wraps all of which loved the food. Wow - the souvlaki here is amazing!! Great flavours and great value. My girlfriend and I just had to come back the next day for some more delicious food before we left Hanmer.

Had a lamb souvlaki, Greek salad and beef and rice. All prepared fresh in a reasonable amount of time. Everything was delicious.

What I really loved about this place was that the gentleman who served us was so friendly and the little garden patio was really nice to sit out in. The food was a generous portion and very tasty. Satisfied my souvlaki craving for sure!

Absolutely lovely and homey little restaurant! I would definitely recommend Petras Souvlakis to anyone. The family? that owns the business is very lovely and they cook right in front of you which is quite awesome to see! They are all clearly skilled and know exactly what to do. I initially did not want to go into the store, but my partner insisted on it so I accepted. The seating area inside is a little small, so not too great for people like me who dislike small spaces. As for the food, my partner and I each got a souvlaki, chicken and falafel and a shared platter of chips. To say the least, the souvlaki's were likely the best I have ever had. The souvlaki was filled to the brim with fresh lettuce, cucumber and tomato, and topped with sauce and beautiful falafel balls that were absolutely delicious. Chips were great as well, not over-salted or over/under cooked, just right.

Wow what a meal tastes amazing and fills up a empty stomach no problem would recommend you try it.

Strolled passed during the day doing a reconnaissance, and then dropped in for 6 Dolmadi’s for $5. After a chat offered a fresh Falafel to try. Just lovely. Went back again for dinner at 7:30 pm for an authentic all in-store made Falafel Souvlaki with original pita, Falafels, humus, yoghurt, cucumber, tomato, dill pickle, and other delights topped with some Sriracha Hot Sauce. Best Falafel meal I’ve eaten since being in Jordan and the Middle East in 1984. Where I gorged on these authentic delights for merely a few shekels and/or dinar’s Great job guys. Superfriendly people, our dog is welcome and always gets a treat and alot of cuddles. And their food is amazingly delicious and a lot to eat. Always full and happy when I went here.

Food was very nice but don't go here if you lack patience. It took an age for our order and they didn't seem to be that busy

If you're in Hamner Springs and looking for a light tasty meal, Petrah is must to do. Family business with supper friendly staff /owner. I had Falafel and Homous and I'd say Homous is must to try.

Best souvlaki I've had since I lived in Melbourne, however souvlaki shops really aren't that common! The guy serving wasn't the most charismatic chap you'd meet...but I guess he doesn't really need to be in a takeaway shop serving such excellent souvlaki and chips. I can still remember the garlic sauce and warm dolmades (they spell it dolmathes) 👌

The guy is a man of few words indeed haha but what he lacks in service he sure makes up for in food 👌 excellent

Souvlaki was nice although a bit soggy by the time we got to the hotel. Not a place for customer service, Chef said about 3 words.
