This is our breakfast go to in Hanmer any time we visit, and again two breakfasts in a row this week were perfect! Excellent coffee, and enjoyed both the grilled kumara corn cakes (with bacon and avo) and the powerhouse pancakes. Will be back next time we are in town!

Quaint and cute cafe nestled in the heart of Hamner springs. Service was outstanding and the food was literally the best I've eaten in years! The staff were friendly and very accommodating young Matt's service was very attentive and polite! A great experience and I'll 100% be back and telling friends to visit! The potato cakes and poached eggs were phenomenal and the pancakes and fruit a very very close second. Do yourself a favour and dine here!!!

Loved that cinnamon and chocolate powder were available on the tables, there was not much left after us as we tried to rescue our coffees (it did not work). I have never had a vegan meal like this in my life. I would like to think I’ve tried most of the plant based menus around Christchurch and the rest of the country but this blows them out of the water. Do not come to this restaurant to talk, either your words won’t do it justice or your mouth will be full. Whether your plant based or not, blow that special someone’s mind and bring them here. We had a wonderful breakfast here. Two breakfast burritos, one with chorizo and the other with poached eggs. For drinks you have your selection of coffee, teas, juices. Wonderful atmosphere. Would highly recommend booking in a table for breakfasts on Sunday to avoid disappointment. If sensitive to the cold, ask for a table away from the door.

Most menu items can be made gluten free and suitable for Coeliac's. Had to try the GF French Toast Crumpets though and what a treat!! Delicious food as always. Really appreciate having somewhere GF friendly to go to.

Arrived mid morning for brunch and it was busy which is always a good sign. Yummy breakfast kai and coffee. I had the Eggs Montreal and an Americano. They smashed it. Definitely prefer this over Rustic cafe. I’m only saying this because Rustic has more positive reviews which was confusing for people like me.

Always good to try something different, and the menu options here certainly fit the bill. Delicious, fluffy pancake option! The generous fruit serving was much appreciated and enjoyed. I did add bacon, as well, which was cooked perfectly and worked well with the pancakes. The breakfast burrito was also enjoyed. Clean plates afterwards! Would be good to have loose leaf tea, though, instead of tea bags brewing in the teapot. The whole point of having a strainer in the pot is for the leaves to be contained. So bit strange to see the bags in the pot. This place gets super busy quickly, but it comes in waves, so for 5 minutes there may be a crowd, and then a few minutes later there are several empty tables. The service is prompt, so they manage to turn the tables around relatively efficiently.

The food came out in a timely manner and was well presented. I indulged in the smashed avocado and halloumi, it was a little underwhelming. My Wife enjoyed the crumpets and was quite pleased, very tasty. The portion sizes were perfect. I'm not a coffee drinking but my wife is and she wasnt happy. Service was mediocre no smile and warmth.

Very happy with the morning after breakfast. Bacon and eggs for me and eggs bennie for the wife. Watched then make up a wow porridge there was some amazing things happening there. If you like porridge you have to order. Staff are friendly and efficient. 2nd time we went they were too busy and turning people away so get in early.

Lovely food and an ethical restaurant that is surprisingly good value for money. The staff also seem to really enjoy working there. Lot of accommodation for dietary requirements, and some pretty fun spins on traditional foods. Went for breakfast on both occasions during our stay and it is definitely on the repeat list.

The French toast crumpets were amazing!! Crispy edges, bananas, and topped with bacon! So yum! I love that they put a bunch of fresh fruits on the side so you feel healthy 😆 Great cafe with delicious food and lovely staff. Wish they opened for a bit longer though!

We were there on Saturday a group of four they were, extremely busy. We sat outside, and it was lovely..our group all ordered different coffee and breakfast, and it was fantastic. Our meals were brought out by a young man, aged between 13-15 I hope I don't affend him. He was amazing, he had impeccable maners. We kept watching him, serving other tables, he is a wonderful member of your staff.

The food and service here is fantastic. We had the brunch burrito with grilled chorizo and the oatmeal pancakes and they were delicious. We loved the pancakes especially. Such a tasty and healthy option. Also had a chai latte and a mocha and they were made to perfection. Could not fault anything. Special thanks to Daniella and Kate for their wonderful hospitality. Definitely recommend.

Food was great, I got the Florentine. Never thought there was a thing as too much spinach though.... the table was really sticky and the lady who brought us out our food wasn't the friendliest but the English lady who took our order was lovely :) My coffee was quite bitter but my orange hot chocolate was yummy. The toilet wasn't the nicest and the courtyard was pretty crammed. When we first arrived we were told they couldn't take our order for half an hour as their kitchen was at full capacity but we decided to wait anyway as we weren't in a rush. Almost 50 minutes later we got menus and took 20 minutes for our food after ordering which I thought was pretty good considering.

Not quite sure what went wrong on the day we visited but it did not live up to the hype of previous reviews. We arrived about 9.30am and managed to find a table for two even though it was obviously busy. The drinks arrived within 10 minutes but tea was cold. Unfortunately our food took an hour to arrive! Just after we'd received our meals about 10.30am, they announced that the kitchen was closed and it was cabinet food only. I have to say that our food wasn't worth the wait. The brunch burrito was totally flavourless and the whipped potato cake served with the high country breakfast was inedible. Whatever the green vege was in it made it taste like dirt!

My wife and I attended the powerhouse cafe and restuarant on both Saturday and sunday morning for breakfast over the 1st and 2nd of August 2020. The food was amazing. Packed full of flavour and using amazing ingredients. The food is a very healthy range of normal breakfasts. I had the french toast crumpets the first day which were very nice, not too sweet. And the eggs Monreal the second visit, this was by far the best breakfast I have had in a very long time. The coffee's were very good and also delivered promptly. The only downside was due to the cafes size we had to sit outside. One day was ok as we were in a sheltered area however the other morning we were in an exposed area.

Was looking forward to dining here as the menu sounded amazing but have to admit I'm really disappointed, mostly by the service. The food and coffee does taste good, but my pancakes came with mouldy fruit and my friend's chowder with blue plastic. They didn't give her the option of choosing something else (which was disappointing as she was really put off by the plastic) and they did nothing about my fruit, not even an apology. Service definitely needs to be improved... Also disappointing that they would make a cabinet dish that had run out for the people right next to us, but wouldn't do the same for us when we wanted the exact same thing. Will not return there are better options in Hanmer.

Had a great breakfast here. Was craving something healthy and delicious and the breakfast burrito defo hit the spot. My partner had an eggs and bacon and hash deal and enjoyed it too. Only took one star off as the staff weren’t the friendliest (although certainly were not rude) and the tea was just one bag in a pot (for the price I would expect a quality loose leaf). But overall had a really great breakfast!

This was not our first trip so I was looking forward to it. Really disappointed, they no longer use real maple syrup but maple flavoured syrup. The Maple flavoured syrup tasted exactly like golden syrup. Would never had ordered that dish had I known. The service and coffee were wonderful.

Quite frankly the best breakfast I've ever eaten. Three of us had breakfast here and the range and quality of the food was outstanding. Our entire family is gluten intolerant and we were spoiled for options. Pretty much everything was either GF or had a GF option. I'd advise you to book on weekends as there were a lot of people without bookings being turned away.
