Malo was very very good. The accommodated my dog in the courtyard where we sat down and had a quiet meal. The food was well balanced and fresh! I ordered the squid to start, the pork as the main with a side of veges.

Just hopped in car and just had to do a review on Malo Restaurant!!! Thank you to the chefs who made the food so exquisite!!! Everything and I mean everything was well made, mouth watering and jist cooked to perfection!! The wait staff!!! What can I say? From when me and my husband walked in, they had their A-Game on!! Customer service was just on point and so sweet and knowledgeable with the food and drinks. The wait staff is what made my night eating here!! Lovely, bubbly and all round beautiful down to earth personalities shined through the masks!!! I will without a doubt recommend coming to eat here 2000% percent to get the freshest food, and the most amazing service! Thank you so much 👍😀👏

Definitely one of the best meals we’ve had in New Zealand. The duck breast was absolutely sublime! Will definitely be returning when we’re back in the region.

One of the best restaurants I ever went to. Some of the food is Michelin star quality, except it's slightly bigger portions than fine dining. All in all you get a great value for money. My only complaint would be them changing the menu more frequently, so that coming back to try new things is possible more often. Edit: Thanks for the response. Actually it seemed the menu got a big update literally just a few days after my review. :)

Arrived on a quiet afternoon between lunch and dinner services, and was treated with some great drinks and snacks, and amazing dessert. Staff were professional, accommodating, and friendly. I'm super keen to try more food from this kitchen and will be back for dinner ASAP! Thanks team!

Nice food, but was surprised when my Te Mata mushrooms came out in a feta type creamy soup with 2 pieces of ciabatta on the side. It was delicious but wasn't expecting it. Perfect coffee. The avocado and eggs looked great.

Great service, the food was absolutely delicious, you can see and feel the dedication on each plate, flavours and presentation are just one making a beautiful experience for the taste. Highly recommended, you need to book a table. Lovely non alcoholic cocktails.

Have been there twice so far for both brunch & dinner. Have to say that it’s definitely a place that you wanna add onto your list and give it a go when you get chance. For brunch it seems quite casual and easy come and go but for dinner you’d better get a booking first cuz it’s already a full house by just 6:30 p.m. Service was amazing, very smooth service so you hardly feel it since the staffs are all quite experienced. As for food, you can see thoughts have been put into their dishes. I had the cooked breakfast and the crushed gourmets are sth new and interesting to me. Bruschetta got well seasoned mushroom sauce and the lamb is as tender and juice as you can imagine. Crème Brulée is well balanced by the stone fruit with awesome presentation. Feel like don’t miss it if you’re in town is all I need to say in the end !

Amazing food and amazing service. The bruschetta entree was faultless, eye fillet perfectly cooked and the sorbet to finish was possibly the best I’ve ever had. Staff were attentive, knowledgeable and super friendly.

Here we are again, now Malo is a most excellent restaurant! The bar staff friendly and knowledgeable, and wait staff superb hang on more like fantastic. I would easily recommend Malo for residents and people passing through like myself, it just has a down to earth charm but also an amazing sophistication and swanky atmosphere to accept all comers. Pricing is good but the food is wonderful, and portion sizes are spot on. If you in Napier, Hastings, or the surrounding area just book a table and enjoy.

The oysters were Devine, calamari was delicious and the dipping sauce , yum, my eye fillet was so tender(med, rare) I didn’t really need a knife 🔪 to cut it, and the sauce , absolutely to die for it just topped off my meal, wonderful waitress and thank you chef for a meal to remember . 10/10

Came here to celebrate an 80th birthday. Everything we ordered was beautiful. The restaurant was busy but calm. The courtyard area is a nice, sunny place to sit. they were very accommodating for our less able guest. Thank you Malo.

I’ve recently had a function here and the service was wonderful for my 20+ guests. I’ve also recently had breakfasts here and the food was delish. Ambience amazing. Bravo Malo!

Love this place for after dinner sitting at the bar with champagne and dessert, however, last night had to pass on my glass of champagne as on enquiring when the bottle had been opened was told ‘a day or so’, not for me at $25 per glass, disappointing. I settled for Chardonnay. Also the drinks menu was dog eared and worn, not a good look.

Food is on the smaller side as it's clearly leaning fine dining, but it was beautifully put together and tasted sensational. The drinks list was extensive, the staff attentive, friendly, but not pushy - and the atmosphere of the place was warm and well lit. Would happily recommend for anyone with picky taste.

We were quite amazed by the quality of the food at this restaurant, with cosy decor and good service standards. We started the night with cocktails. Ladies First was sweet with a beautiful floral bouquet, and Finlandrome was deliciously well-balanced with nice floral notes. Our first dish was a dozen oysters. These were amazingly refreshing, plump, and juicy. The Smoked Duck came next, and it was perfectly cooked with good flavours and with the right proportion of duck fat to meat. The highlight was the perfect medium rare Wakanui Eye Fillet, served with Parmesan & Truffle Oil Hasselback Potatoes which were sliced and cooked in a way to give it a crispy surface and moist interior. Very very nice. We finished with a delicious chocolate dessert, and it would have capped off a wonderful evening if not for the almost 30min wait for a dessert which would have been pre-made and just needed assembling. Not sure what happened here, but it was a mood dampener. Overall, two thumbs up and highly recommended.

Had a wonderful lunch here. Definitely more suited to adults. Food was amazing, no complaints. Varied selection of items on the menu. I had the sirloin steak & winter salad for main and the orange & almond cake for dessert . Would definitely recommend you go here for a special occassion. A little more expebsive than other places but cheaper than alot of the wineries round the here.

Great experience, great food, great taste. An absolute delight of a place! I have dined in many places across the globe and I would rate Malo as one of the best restaurants. The menu is uncomplicated and the food is just fabulous. I had the Lamb dish; it was infused with flavours and delights with every mouth I enjoyed. For desert, I had the Bread and Butter Pudding that complimented the taste and standards of the main meal. The coffee to finish it off, was just the best! A must visit place if you are ever in the Hawke’s Bay Region!

We enjoyed our first meal at Malo this week. The presentation is stunning and really a feast for the eyes. My husband felt his snapper was a little over cooked and my Mum didn’t really find her salmon entree especially flavourful. There is not a lot on the plate and we needed a side salad and a dish of delicious fries to satisfy our hunger. The desserts are exquisite.

Wow, wow, wow! Everything was superb from the instant we walked in and greeted by Matt knowing we were celebrating an anniversary. Little touches that made you feel special to them as a customer such as offering alternative accompaniments when asking them to hold the onion puree, the offer of tasting a wine we were unsure of before we bought it, the adornment of Fiona's plate marking the anniversary. All underpinned by the friendly but professional service of Matt and other staff, but forgetting the superb meal creations of the chef. Top quality at a competitive price, you won't be disappointed. We had lunch at Malo yesterday (Sunday) . After a dismal experience at Clearview Vineyard the day before, we hoped this (last-minute booking) would rescue a birthday weekend. And it did! Malo's service was impeccable and friendly, the food was generous and beautifully prepared and there was a perfect balance between checking up on our drinks and food, and leaving to us enjoy a romantic, relaxed lunch in the sunshine. Very good service. We stopped by here after hiking around Te Mata Park. Nice atmosphere throughout the restaurant. I ordered a vientnamese pancake and it tasted super great. The pork belly melts in mouth while preserving the crunchiness of it. The salad has a special vientnamese dressing on it and compliments well with the shrimp and pork belly. If you want to visit a place with great atmosphere, good service, then Malo is definitely a must go for you.

Great food and a good selection of wines from throughout the Hawkes Bay. Each item on the menu showed the exact distance to where it was caught/made which was really interesting to see. Overall a good experience though the ambiance wasn’t as good as it could have been.

It's great to go somewhere modern,comfortable and WARM in the winter! The menu was good - the usual fare and price ( is anyone else tired of pork belly?) but the portions were generous and dishes tasty. We ordered the special - a T-bone steak, with crispy Parmesan potatoes - and the fish of the day (pan-fried, with fennel, crushed potatoes and a light tarragon broth). Two exquisite meals - the fish was cooked perfectly, it crumbled easily with a crispy skin that added texture, the fresh and mellow tarragon flavour a great accompaniment. The T-bone was a good size, med-rare and melted in the mouth. Booking was quick and easy online, and staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive. Highly recommended for couples, families and groups. Malo is so lovely, food was fabulous, could not fault any of the courses, perfect size portions. Delicious! The staff were so professional and our waitress was so friendly, she explained the menu fully. The drinks were like a work of art! There is just one issue, the front of desk person looked so stressed and it was awkward when we first arrived. She didnt smile at all, not welcoming. She is probably a lovely person but just needs to relax as this could put ppl off. Apart from that we can definently recommend Malo. Complements to the talented Chief. Thank you

Malo may be new and it does feel a bit like it's yet to settle in to it's skin. The food is close to perfect! At least the 4 dishes we tried were. This is a great addition to the Hawke's Bay food scene and I can see it becoming one of those "must go" places. We will go again for sure and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
