Found this place by accident on a visit to Invercargill. To be honest looking at it, it wasn't the most welcoming place as it looks a real mess inside with boxes heaped up on one side of the room, a jumble of tables that customers have to weave through to the queue which nobody can quite work out where they are in it because of the tables. (This may have changed by now). However the food was extremely good and the service very friendly. It seems really popular or at least it was when we were there. Worth the 4⭐s despite the chaos 👍.

Been here many times over the last 8 years .I found it pretty good the serving size is the best I have ever come across ,I like the Bento box lots of fresh Salmon and nice tempera Veggies. The Miso Soup nicely made but Luke warm last visit .The Service has always been very good but during beginning relocation it was lacking but now it is excellent and food is very good .Shame no beer now .Location in knew mall would be a game changer for them.Highly recommend to anyone prices are best around for off the menu .

I'm always a little disappointed by Bonsai. Having visited quite a few times over the years the food quality has rarely impressed me. However it's fast, affordable, convenient and right in the middle of town, so I still find myself returning. Today I picked up what I thought was a standard 8 pack of sushi but noticed a sugary syrupy sauce leaking from the plastic container and onto the seat of my car. It was apparently hidden underneath the sushi - very odd, no other sushi place in town adds a sauce like this. It wasn't very nice either - almost tasteless in-fact, and had absorbed into the underside of all my sushi. Stick to just ginger, wasabi and a soy sauce packet unless customers specifically order extras please! yuck! :(

Bonsai is an amazing little Japanese restaurant that serves traditional food. Everything they make is fresh amd delicious! Its easy to pop in, grab some sushi and be off again in just a few minutes.
