The Lodge is sited superbly close to all the Milford Sound attractions. The coffee was marvelous, staff were particularly friendly with outstanding service. Excellent maps and weather information - just what you need in an outdoor place like this. Excellent facilities - thoughtfully designed and well maintained made the cost absolutely worthwhile. We would stay here again.

Loved my stay at the lodge. The staff were fantastic, every one of them were kind and helpful. The food portions are very generous, and may be the best in the township (to be fair it is a very small town hahaha). The views from the riverside chalet are stunning, especially when the rain fills the waterfalls. I'd like to visit again in the winter to see those mountains topped with snow.

A SLICE OF PARADISE! We love coming to the Milford Sound Lodge, it's an absolutely stunning place all your round. We went this month and stayed in the Mountain Chalets which is a modern, spacious room close to the river with stunning mountain & waterfall views. The breakfast is included and needs to be ordered the day before. We had yummy croissants & ham-cheese toasties, which we enjoyed outside of the chalet. The staff is always super helpful, friendly and gave us great tips for the region. I highly recommend having dinner in the PioPio restaurant, I had the curry with was delicious. We can't wait to come back, thank you for the great hospitality 🤎

We stayed for 1 night in our campervan. The food from their restaurant was average; the only dish we liked wad the lamb ribs. The main facility was disappointed, they don't even have hairdryer. They are the only accommodation in Milford Sound, so no other options......
I.
What an incredible place! Situated right in the forest with kea buzzing the place in the mornings. The cafe was lovely and the staff very helpful. Considering the location, the price was very reasonable too. A pleasant river/bush walk to the foreshore. Thanks very much.
A.
3 stunning nights in Milford. Felt we got awesome value for money in our 2 bdrm chalet with an online 2+night deal. Super roomy for family of 5. Included breakfast was delish (did us for lunch as well!). The little things are done so well.
Staff are all just lovely.
A longer stay can defintely be done and kids kept busy for a couple days if you head down to the commercial fishing boat wharf and take a look at the resident 7giller sharks that like to visit. (If you have bait, even better!)
One of the Lodge staff gave us directions on where to find the local glow worm cave (bush whacking in the dark required! take a torch!) Kids also just occupied themselves nicely, making a dam and catching cockabillies at the creek below the lodge.
We took food in to cook dinner in the communal kitchen for 2 of the nights. We dined at the restaurant on the last night. Beautiful food, great service.
For Kiwi families that want to make the most of their back yard while the roads are quiet - Milford is simply stunning. Can honestly say it was up there with one of our best family holidays.
Thank you Milford Lodge!

Spent 4 days on a dive trip recently and called into the lodge several times during our stay. We found the staff helpful, courteous and friendly. Really appreciated their help and for providing a great place to get wifi and phone service. Tough times currently with the lack of additional travelers (that actually makes its better in a way) it was good to see services still running and facilities still running. Highly recommend stopping in on your Milford experience.

This is the perfect place to stay if you’re exploring the amazing Milford Sound. The view from the chalets are ridiculous. Photos could never do it justice. We were greeted by Kea at our door the two mornings we stayed, which was an added bonus!
T.
I loved this place. I stayed in a campervan spot for three nights & I think it’s incredible value. The facilities are clean & work well. I was impressed by the hot showers! The staff are friendly & helpful. I’m already planning when I can come to stay again. You’re immersed right in the depths of Milford Sound - it’s unrivalled. I didn’t try the restaurant but looking forward to that next time. 5/5!

We stayed in a campervan and checked in relatively late. Whilst there are some freedom camping spots heading towards Milford, this is the closest place to stay and it's worth staying if you're doing activities right in the Sound. The road there is a little dangerous so I wouldn't drive after dark. The facilities were clean, tidy and there were hot showers which was great after a long day traveling. The birdsong is beautiful when you wake up and we had a curious Weka walk up to the van when we woke up looking for food. We would likely stay here again.
B.
Stayed in our campervan. Amazing location. Simply beautiful. Great facilities clean and tidy. Watch out for the sandflies.
G.
Great camping spot, very clean showers and toilet, good size kitchen (but, bring all you need to cook), comfortable lounge area and beautiful surroundings, 15min walk to Deep Basin Rd where you can take the water taxi to the track or a kayak in the fiord. Staff very friendly and helpful always. Dinner in Pio Pio was good, but coffee was better.
B.
Best camping area in nz. Each site was surrounded by bush. Modern facilities. The toilet block was even heated. Provided a free shuttle to the boats, avoiding the 25 dollar parking fee at the marina.
B.
What a dreamy place!
From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere consumed us. There was nature and quiet all around us. The rooms were large, the bed was really comfy and the bathroom was luxurious. We had under floor heating, which was very much needed in June.
The restaurant was cozy and served very unique and delicious food. It is such an experience to stay here.
A.
The Milford Lodge had everything we needed for our stay. Our room, the Mountain View chalet was very comfortable and has everything we needed. The underfloor heating was fantastic and the bed was so comfortable.
The staff was very helpful with our requests and even gave us a ride to the jetty as it was pouring with rain so we didn’t have to park our car and walk.
I can’t wait to come back again!
J.
My wife and I stayed here after doing the Milford Track and absolutely loved it. Everyone was friendly and the food at Pio Pio restaurant was scrumptious. My wife and I both agreed that we would definitely stay here again in the future.
B.
Excellent facilities and value for money
Under floor heating in bathrooms etc
Free shuttle to cruises instead of paying $25 parking fee. Lovely grounds and bird life
Definitely returning sometime 🙂.
H.
Absolutely amazing experience being there. Food was absolutely yummy 😋 very delicious lamb shank, and vegetarian soup 🍲. Next day pizza 🍕 and nachos were delicious too 😊
R.
We loved staying here. The staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful. The chalet we stayed in was modern, clean, and lovely and warm with a king sized bed. The continental breakfast we received in the morning was far beyond any continental breakfast we've ever received and was so lovely and fresh. We appreciated the free shuttle service to the boats. We would definitely recommend this accommodation to others, in fact we already have 😊
Z.
Our stay at Milford Sound Lodge was excellent. We stayed here as it was the only accommodation option in Milford Sound (which is annoying!), but despite this we thought Milford Sound Lodge was great value.
The rooms were modern, clean and contained everything we needed. Parking was right outside and they even had the option of a full kitchen for guests who didn't want to spend money at the restaurant. The included breakfast was such a lovely touch.
They offer a helpful shuttle service to the ferry terminal as long as you book in advance - this saved us a fortune as the parking near the ferry terminal is exorbitant. The lodge is also within walking distance of a short walking track down by the water.
C.
We had the most amazing time staying at Milford Sound Lodge this week! What an outstanding location, with everything you could possibly need.
4 of us stayed in the two bedroom chalet and dined in the PioPio restaurant. We did the day walk on the Milford Track and enjoyed the cruise around the sounds. What an absolutely magical place! Thank you for the most amazing experience.
K.
We stayed in a River Chalet, is was stunning and the views were something else! The cleanliness was top notch and the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful, great facilities. The restaurant food was plenty and delicious. We will be back for sure! Thank you for a great stay.
B.
Can't comment on the accommodation as we were in a campervan, although it looked fabulous. The facilities for campers were out of this world, amazing. More expensive than any other place we stayed but well worth it, especially if you need an early start for the Milford cruise, the jewel in the crown.
R.
Blown away by the facilities, food, and location. Could not have asked for a better stay, and sad to be leaving. Staff are all extremely attentive, and clearly take great pride in their work. The food was absolutely delicious - unexpected take on a citrus cheesecake was a stand out! A surprise kea sighting rounded out a truly memorable stay.
B.
Outstanding ,staff, facilities ,location. We were fortunate to be snowed in so we had heavy rain pouring off the hills then snow all around the hills. Cannot rate this place high enough especially the very friendly and professional staff. We stayed in riverside cabin, again outstanding accommodation, you gotta go and experience this place yourself.
J.
The facilities were top notch for somewhere so distant the staff very accommodating bring your sand fly repellent and just wait to be amazed I'm Southland born and bred if I'd known how amazing this place was I would have done it earlier cheers jase
D.
Amazing experience. It is a stop you must include in your trip while in Queenstown. Staff is very welcoming and lovely. The whole experience is incredible with beautiful views over the river while relaxing music is playing while you leave your troubles away in hot bubbly water. They include a snack to your experience which you can choose from a menu.
S.
Peaceful, friendly, comfortable, stunning views. What more could you ask for. Lovely staff, yummy food.. Love the emphasis on keeping things zero waste. All places should take a leaf out of your book! We booked the 2 night package with the boat trip, could not fault it! Thanks!
C.
No better place to stay in Milford. The mountain view chalets are luxury homes away from home with everything you could ever need. Beautifully surround by nature, views and bird life. You’ll be greeted by Kea at your front door. Would come back again!
S.
This place is absolutely magical. We stayed at the riverside chalet in November where you are surrounded by the mountains and right in front of your room is the river. Beautiful spot just to sit there relax and soak in the natural beauty of this amazing place. I highly recommend staying at lease 1 night at the Milford sound lodge rather than doing a day trip to Milford sound. Also the Pio Pio restaurant food is delicious. We will be coming back in August to see the Mountains outside of our room covered in snow
S.
We stayed at the Forest campervan park, and it was a great experience. The facilities were great, with a big kitchen, coin operated laundry ($5 each for washing and drying), several shower-toilet cubicle style bathrooms. WiFi is a bit expensive (as it is provided via satellite internet) and it didn’t bother us as we decided spend our time disconnected from SM. No mobile coverage either.
F.
Brilliant and first class staff who took excellent care of my family and I while on holiday. From the deliciously beautiful food, to the breathtaking views...just an absolute wonderful and peaceful place to stay when doing the Milford Sound cruise and other activities. Memories of our time here, the amazing sights along the way on our road trip to Milford Sound Lodge and on the cruise will forever be cherished. A must do experience that you will thoroughly enjoy and will remember forever.
W.
Fantastic place to stay when visiting Milford Sound! Superb large family rooms with a awesome view! Great way of breaking up your trip, and being able to do a early morning cruise (the best time). The staff were great!! :)
K.
Beautiful accomodation, really high spec and set in the most beautiful location. The room floors weren't the cleanest, nor it had good choice of supplies (toileteries/hot drinks). Had to ask for everything. However staff was very accommodating and helpful. Breakfast could be a bit more "hiking friendly" lots of carbs and small portions. Initially they didn't include our child in the served portions wich was a bit odd but after asking they brought her food too. We dined at the restaurant one night, had a booking at 7:30pm, our food took over an hour to arrive. That was a bit painfully long wait with a toddler. The waitresses was lovely however and the food was excellent.
D.
Amazing !
Must stay in the river view chalets at least a couple of nights.
The view was just breathtaking.
Photos dont do justice.
We will go back there for sure.
Food was excellent. room service was also very good.
I.
I have been to Milford Sound few times but it was my first time staying at the lodge. What a beautiful place to stay and relax. We stayed at Mountain view charlets. It was comfortable, warm (loved underfloor heating in the bathroom :-) ) and clean. We decided to go for 3 course dinner to treat ourselves and was really good value and tasty. We were greeted by cheeky Kea and his mate Weka in the morning. Definitely recommend it and cant wait to go back there again. Thank you guys!
B.
Beautiful location, the camping site has power and water, also the facilities of the camping are great, full space for everyone and everything, kitchen toilets and shower very clean. Highly recommended.
you will need to bring your own cutlery, plates, glasses and pots.
L.
Great place to stay if wanting to overnight before or after your Milford Sound Cruise or Milford Track walk in your campervan. They have a shuttle that will take you to the cruise terminal and back again to save moving your van and paying for parking.
Communal facilities were very good with plenty of gas stoves, washing up area, and eating lounging area. The shower/toilet spaces were nice and big and great water pressure. Each parking space had its own fresh water tap and electical shore power. Zero cell reception but thats for the whole area. You can buy internet through reception but as its by satellite dish the bandwidth isnt great. Fine for emails. Overall a great experience.
Z.
I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. We stayed at the Mountain View Chalet which was very spacious and had an absolutely stunning view in both sunshine and rain. We we're lucky to see some kea in our outdoor dining area!
I was blown away by the sustainability-focused initiatives put in place. None of the kitchen or bathroom products were wrapped in any single-use plastic or put in hard-to-recycle containers. Instead, everything was either in refillable containers/dispensers or eco-friendly packaging. Even the milk came in little refillable glass bottles!
The staff were so friendly and accommodating, the restaurant food was amazing, and the hot chocolate from the cafe was one of the best I've had!
Hoping to return soon!!
K.
Although the price is a bit eye-watering ($35pp/night for a powered site) this place has made sure that the experience matches the money. It’s a treat to be able to park your van tucked away in the beeches of one of our national parks and just enjoy the majesty of the surrounding landscape.
The showers are free and excellent - they are individual rooms with a loo, sink, bench and shower all in one. This does mean that at peak times there’s a bit of a wait, but if you can avoid the rush, it’s awesome. There is a really plush kitchen and guest lounge, with kids toys and a TV, all with brilliant views of the surrounding peaks.
The Pio Pio Cafe is a top-quality restaurant and well worth going to. They have an excellent selection of local wine and a delicious menu to choose from. Good portion sizes too - we didn’t have room for dessert! Staff are friendly and attentive. Overall a really special experience.
Definitely recommend this as a treat stay. It’s a beautiful experience.
G.
Lovely place! So clean and tidy everywhere, lots of campervan sites to choose from. Staff are great and friendly!
Emailing a lot about the road situation was great, something they definitely didn't have to do but did.
The food was incredible! One of the best meals I've ever had. Really worth the money.
A.
This place was a dream!!! We stayed in a camper van site over Christmas and it was awesome. The grounds are lovely, situated along a glacier river.
The shared kitchen was very busy but there were four different stove ranges to use, plenty of pots, pans, plates, utensils, etc. There were bathrooms, showers, and a washer/dryer if needed.
We joined the lodge for the special Christmas dinner. It was delicious and quite a lot of food. We throughly enjoyed it and the bar. We had a bottle of DELICIOUS wine from there on Christmas Eve.
The staff was wonderful at every interaction!
M.
We camped in our Self Contained Van on the campground for one night and wished to stay there forever! This place is absolutely stunning! No signal for two days but we loved it! You are surrounded by nothing else but nature! Waterfalls everywhere! The toilets and the showers were really clean and we were able to use washing machines, dryers, a kitchen and a cozy room to relax.
The staff is always smiling and helpful!
From the bottom of our hearts, we can highly recommend this place!
C.
We stayed at one of their powered campsites. Such a lovely place amongst the trees. They had a kitchen which was fully stocked with utensils. They had heated entry to the bathrooms and hot showers ( didn't cost extra and weren't timed) as well as a heated eating/ lounge area. Thought this was a really nice place to stay overnight. We appreciated that it wasn't a long walk from the camper to the facilities- no matter where they would have put us!
S.
Absolutely Fantastic. The staff are beyond Amazing. I want to especially mention Andrea. I forgot something of mine when we checked out and she was soo awesome to get it back and go out of her way for it. I'm super Impressed. HIGHLY recommend. The accomodation is also amazing too. 👏
S.
Absolutely gorgeous, clean, lovely staff, awesome facilities! Also great coffee! Only downside (if you see it as one) is bad wifi... but I will definitely stay here again! Also bonus, the cute Kea and Weka running around. Also - it’s in Milford Sound, how can it not be stunning?!
P.
Best place to stay in Milford Sound. The riverside chalets are expensive but the outlook is perfect. The Cafe is fantastic. Great service and reasonable prices, unlike its sister lodge in Te Anau - Fiordland Lodge.
M.
Absolutely beautiful chalets, eco friendly, views of a lifetime. The food at the restaurant was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend staying at the chalet and doing the cruise - such a wonderful experience
J.
We stayed in a riverside chalet and were blown away. Had such a nice time. It was so beautiful and we were so excited to see wild kea land our deck! All the staff were so lovely as well. Would recommend staying here to anyone!
K.
When planning our honeymoon, this was a must for us. This place was so worth it in our eyes. The views from our room were amazing, the accommodations were top notch. We loved that the day we went down, it was pouring rain when we did our cruise around the sound. The next day, it was clear so we got to enjoy it both ways because we stayed here overnight.
A.
This place was excellent. We had initially booked a camp site, but following road closures due to severe weather we asked to change it to a chalet last minute which the very obliging staff sorted out for us. The chalet was beautiful, luxurious and had an amazing view of the mountains with new waterfalls appearing every hour as the rain was falling! We also had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant which was delicious, fresh and comforting. Couldn't recommend them higher!
C.
So pleasantly surprised by our experience here. Were expecting it to be half-decent accommodation and pretty ordinary food despite the cost given how they have a captive audience, but the accommodation was really lovely (we were in a chalet) the food was outstanding, and all the staff very friendly and accommodating. Also surprised by little extras such as DVDs to watch and books in the room to read. We are so pleased that we decided to take a punt and spend the night here. Location is truly stunning, what a place to wake up.
K.
The highlight of our New Zealand trip! This place is worth every penny. My partner and I are young professionals and were travelling on a budget, but I fell in love with this place so we decided this would be our one night splurge... We both agree it was the highlight of our two weeks on the South Island! We had a lake view chalet and WOW it was literally like we were sleeping outside the view was incredible. Amenities were top notch as well, extremely comfortable and cozy. The staff were lovely. Dinner and breakfast at Pio Pio was fabulous. I had the salad with lamb and the portion of lamb was so generous I was pleasantly surprised. My boyfriend had the venison and wow it was delish. We loved how amazing everything was but the place still had a down to earth charm which we really appreciate. Like I said, worth every penny!
N.
If you want experience the heaven on earth make sure you stay here. Most scenic location due to rain forest, waterfall and snow capped mountains. Architecturally and structurally very aesthetic holiday park. The staff was very helpful, welcoming, accommodating and friendly and they were all working together like one family. Also provide shuttle service to ferry and free parking even after checkout.
Our campervan needed repair and same time we have to catch cruise, but super helpful staff handle the situation very well, manage all calls with britz and AA service and went extra mile to sort out our problems.
S.
Both the café / restaurant and the chalets are unbelievably amazing. The staff seemed like a tight, happy team. The sandflies and mozzies at Milford Sound are always a bit of a buzzkill (pun intended?) but this place is doing the most it can to make the experience as good as it gets.
N.
Magnificent lodge right at doorstep of Milford Sound. The rooms were fantastic and the views were amazing. We had dinner in the dining room and the food was great. It made getting onto a boat tour the next morning easy rater than driving in for the day.
S.
Absolutely incredible views from the riverside chalet we stayed in. The room was bright, clean and modern with air conditioning with a good bathroom. We opted for the "Explore & Relax" package which included the Southern Discoveries tour of Milford Sound and the underwater observatory; probably one of the best experiences we had in New Zealand (with stunning views and dolphins swimming right next to the boat).
Staff were incredibly helpful, recommending us a number of day-hike routes to explore (be warned: even the easier ones are fairly challenging, but utterly unforgettable)
The food at the Pio Pio cafe was exceptional, especially the avocado toast with balsamic vinegar at breakfast.
The luxury chalets are not the cheapest, but our stay there was certainly memorable.
M.
Amazing! Great views, very nice spacious room, great location. We got room service from the Pio Pio restaurant and it is a must try! Up there with some of the best food we've had at a restaurant in a long time. Definitely try the soup of the day!
S.
We stayed in a two bedroom cabin/chalet for two nights. The views from the cabin are incredible, and we were lucky enough to have waterfalls pouring down all around us. The food in the restaurant was reasonable. At nearly $900 a night, we didn't expect to have to ask for basics (shampoo, conditioner, milk etc) and there are no cooking facilities (except a microwave) in the cabin. The staff at the desk were a little snooty too.
e.
Lovely location next to a brook. Rooms are on the pricey side (nz$345 per twin room). Rooms are clean, in good condition, have a kitchenette, heated tile flooring for shower and entry. That was especially useful for drying and heating some diving gear our team used in Milford sound fjord water earlier the same day. The breakfast is served in the main restaurant/ cafe, but it took a considerable amount of time (we were group of 12) since they prepared every plate that is catered to the table - it’s not one of the “self-serve” buffets that one is used to in big hotel chains etc.
There’s also a guest kitchen for those guests who travel with their camper van or other vehicle.
The Milford Sound fjord is mind-blowing beautiful, so it’s really worth the visit even if you’re not staying at this lodge.
N.
Obviously the location is amazing! The shuttle bus to the sounds was very helpful and the staff were super friendly and informative.
There is a problem with the dorm rooms, though. There is absolutely no ventilation, so you’re basically sleeping in a room with 11 beds and no air coming in. You’re pretty much breathing in everyone’s breath and recirculating the same air again and again. This is unhealthy and causes bad sleep as well. There are easy affordable fixes to this and it is very important.
If Milford Lodge can afford to build beautiful villas with river views, I’m sure they can also better the dorm rooms to make everyone comfortable and healthy. This is vital- one must do something about this.
Other than that the lounge, kitchen, toilets and showers were clean and well maintained.

The only motorhome campground available after passing through Homer Tunnel. My husband and I stayed for a night because we bought Milford Sound cruise ticket at 8.30am. We were so lucky because the next day the road was close due to avalanche. So we were the earliest & only few people who board the cruise which is so great & not crowded. All facilities are great and clean. Free hot shower, kitchen, utilities room. They provide washing machine & dryer too with a reasonable cost. No internet however, need to pay but the internet connection not really strong. Not recommended to buy. Lastly, the view surrounding are surreal!! Gonna stay here again if we visit NZ.
V.
Stay here! Great location, lovely facilities and yummy restaurant. Right in Milford Sound so you can easily go on a cruise the next morning feeling refreshed instead of needing to drive and then cruise.
C.
Great place to stay when visiting Milford Sounds. Warm and cozy room/bed. Very considerate rooms with layout, furniture etc.
Restaurant is on site and delicious.
PS. Love the eco goal and all the reusable product.
D.
Really nice room, good view, local weka are friendly and visit ofyen. The restaurant food was very good, slightly pricey but given the location
and remoteness its what you would expect. Environmentally responsible
K.
Parked there in a camper van, $60 for a night. Place was beautifully nestled between snowy mountains that's just beside a stream. The lodge has private rooms facing the stream but price was kind of steep. The common area was nice and cozy. Toilet was clean had had private cubicles for showering which is good meaning you won't freeze to death on winters. All and all was my fave camper van lodge!
A.
Milford Sound Lodge is the only public accommodation in Milford Sound. Since it was our honeymoon, we decided to splurge and stay at the lodge for two nights. By the time I was booking, the riverside chalets were all booked so I booked a mountain view chalet with the king bed option instead.
These are modern, cozy, and surprisingly spacious chalets. There's underfloor heating, an actual heater, a fridge/freezer, a kettle, a coffeemaker, tea and coffee, cable TV with a DVD player, and even free satellite WiFi. However, the WiFi is very, very spotty due to the lodge's location, so don't expect to be able to stream Netflix or Skype or do anything with too much bandwidth. Each chalet has its own parking spot. Our mountain view chalet had a wonderful view of the Darran Mountains, waterfalls, and even a small view of the Cleddau River. There's a picnic bench outside where you can sit, relax, and enjoy the awe-inspiring landscape.
Breakfast at the onsite restaurant, Pio Pio, was included with our package, which was incredibly convenient. The food was good too. I had their Milford Grill option (two poached eggs, bacon rashers, tomato, grilled mushrooms, hash browns, and ciabatta bread) both days, and it was delicious. They also serve dinner at Pio Pio, although we did not pursue this option.
The lodge has a fully-stocked guest kitchen for use. This kitchen has the works - gas cooktops, pots and pans, utensils, cutlery, kettle, microwave, and a dining area. We used the kitchen to make pasta one night, and it made everything so practical and easy. Just make sure to bring all your groceries because they don't have a supermarket here.
We had an amazing stay here! The facilities are wonderful, but what's better is the staff. On the day we were due to check out, the road out of Milford Sound to Te Anau was closed due to weather. The front desk assured us that we could stay beyond checkout time as long as the road was closed. Even though it's a bit on the pricey side, I highly recommend staying at the lodge.
A.
We stayed in a chalet and it was a high quality fit out with plenty of hot, glacially-fed water. Amazing. The staff were very friendly and engaging.
J.
Very helpful staff. Bit strange to have a fine dining restaurant here. Would probably be alot busier if it was hearty pub grub instead. That would be more enticing after a wet day in the fiords. Would also be better to be more casual as people are in walking clothes and boots. Kitchen need ovens.
Q.
Phenomenal stay !! This place is. Magical little wonderland. The most comfortable bed 🛌 i have ever slept in . The view is breathtaking. The staff were very friendly and helpful 🙂 . The food was very well presented and tasted delicious 😋 a completely must do !!!!
M.
This place is simply amazing. Your eyes just keep being treated with beautiful views from all vantage points. I have never been to a place with this much draw dropping scenery. Waterfalls that drop three times the size of Niagara Falls. Make sure you bring insect repellent for sand fleas. Food was amazing at the Pio Pio cafe.
O.
Very friendly staff who gave us speedy and helpful advice when we booked accommodation via email. As this is one of the very few accommodations in Milford Sound area, make sure to book months in advance. Not a cheap place to stay and eat, but we still enjoyed our stay very much. Food quality was unexpectedly high.
K.
Stayed in an 11 bed dorm room. Comfortable, clean and warm rooms. Where the lodge really excelled was it's facilities! New kitchen was well equipped and the private toilets and showers in the new block were lovely. An actual drying room and good laundry area. The older wash blocks were still good and functional. Would recommend. Beware of the Milford sand flies!
V.
For some people maybe a bit expensive but of course you pay for location. In my opinion it's absolutely worth of money. Amazing view and nice campsite with new and clean facilities. You can just go for a tour and don't have to wake up so early in the morning. Just be prepared for sandflies because Milford Sound is it's capitol city 🤷🏿♂️
C.
We stayed for a night here in our campervan on a powered site as we didn't want to rush in for a Milford Sound cruise the next day. Overall, I thought the facilities provided were well-maintained. The kitchen has various sizes of pots and pans as well as cutleries and utensils for your use - I do appreciate this a lot as you save the hassle of transporting your own kitchenware to and fro.
Shower room was nice although I would have preferred it much better if it's not sensor-based or if the sensor is placed nearer to the middle; the lights will suddenly go off because it seems like they can't detect you if you're showering inside and don't make enough movement for it to detect.
The place is also really close to the visitor center and thus the harbor. You can choose to hike there if you want.
A.
Amazing, everything was clean and beautiful. The service from the receptionist to the man serving us dinner was so good, our only fault was not staying longer.
We did the package including Milford sound tour and the discovery centre. Absolutely everything was great and all interactions with staff were so great I've never experienced a trip of such a high standerd. We will definitely go back.
L.
We spent Christmas at the Milford Sound Lodge, and had a fantastic time. We signed up for their Christmas dinner, which was excellent, and joined in with the caroling -- great spirits all around. The accommodations were very good, and we had a lot of luck with the weather -- rainy in the morning, and sunny in the afternoon. It was a great stay!
Y.
We stayed at the backpackers part. It's all very clean and well maintained, and very close to the amazing Milford sound. Things we didn't like were: 1. There's no freezer, so once bringing there your cooled food - the next day you won't have any ice to take it back through the long drive back. 2. Toilets are ~100 meters away from the rooms, so one has to walk this dark-cold-sometimes rainy path to get there in the night. 3. Our room had 11 beds which i think is a lot.
C.
Stayed in a riverside chalet, it was perfect. The food in the restaurant was good but my one criticism would be the service was a little slow, the maitre d was a bit disorganised from the start.
We did the taste of Milford experience and it was well worth it, the cruise was great. However the underwater observatory didn't go ahead due to bad weather and we were told by the boating company that milford lodge would refund us which they did not, that was a bit annoying.
S.
One of the high class powered sites I've been to in South Island New Zealand! Bathrooms is very very clean and well maintained , with heaters located all over, it's the perfect place to be during cold weathers! They have very comfy couches in the lounge, free DVD renting area, and a cafe/restaurant which features nice food all day!
We got stuck once when the roads were closed due to heavy rains, the staff here was very nice and always kept us updated of the latest weather and road updates. Even when the check out time was passed and the news update was @ a later time, they allowed us to stay and hang around for free! Very sympathetic! Lovely place! Highly recommended to stay!
A.
Beautiful setting to stay in.
Prices are certainly set according to the captive market.
Restaurant was nice but the steaks and mashed potatoes were way too salty. Told the managing waitress and I don't think anything will get done because they all seem afraid of upsetting the chef who must be a little precious.
J.
Pio Pio Cafe was the best food we had in New Zealand hands down! The grounds at Milford Lodge are great and the amenities definitely make it an enjoyable site and worth the price. We stayed two nights and although it was rainy it was a lot of fun and one of our favorite places of our entire trip. Would recommend it to anyone who does not need to rush. It does book up though so recommend making reservations.
H.
We spend a couple of nights there right after they reopened. The staff was very helpful and professional. Good kitchen, showers, toilets and a little wifi. Just enough to have a chat with family/ friends.
All sites are powered and are large / private enough.
E.
The place is amazing and the staff is very friendly. The only complaint I have is about the Wifi. First, it must be bought, which is ok, but once I bought it through my cellphone I couldn't use it over my laptop. It's fixed on the device you've used to pay for it.
I've paid for the most expensive plan, and did not use as I needed.
This system should be changed to be used in other devices, even if limited for one device.
M.
Such a great place to stay. We spend 1 night here after our 3 day walking track and we not regret it at all. The staff is absolutely amazing.very friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious. This fries was perfect 👌. We used the shuttle in the morning. We would be back for sure 👍.
A.
An absolutely stunning location with amazingly modern furnishings that marry the natural surrounding environment inside and out. The larger lodge suits a family of two adults and two kids perfectly and there are additional choices for couples and campers. The interior of the family lodge is so clever that you feel outside when inside, coupled with modern striking combinations of colours, light and emeneties I would love to come back. The onsite kitchen and food options are delicious. Beef cheeks were really tender and the salmon cooked perfectly. Breakfast was super quick and also well above any premeditated ideas for such a remote destination. If you can get there without a run of road closures in winter or early spring and also avoid higher costs in school holidays this place is an absolute win.
E.
Stayed at a powered site. Simply the best facilities on our trip down the east coast from Christchurch. The buildings and facilities are nice, new and modern. Showers are hot, have excellent pressure and have a broad spray. The views in every direct are fit for a postcard. Many of the powered sites back into the forest, giving a cozy, private feel. The staff were friendly and helpful.
D.
Absolutely outstanding. Beautiful room with patio doors overlooking river. Had great venison steak for dinner. At breakfast the table was laid with a great cold buffet. I assumed that was it and then eggs bacon etc arrived. Finally we were served muffins straight from the oven. Very conveniently located for Milford Sound. Stay here if you can.
A.
A magical location with one of the most beautiful campgrounds in nz. The facilities are clean. The common dining are kitchen areas are cosy and “homely”. Restaurant and reception staff were friendly and knowledgeable.
N.
If you have not visited Milford DO IT! Stunning breathtaking awesome. We stayed overnight at the lodge in a campervan to be ready for an early scenic boat tour. We had breakfast at the lodge which was flavoursome, filling and fairly cheap considering their captive market. Service at reception and the cafe was friendly and attentive. We arrived in darkness unaware of our surroundings and only as dawn was breaking could see and take in our majestic location.
V.
If you are visiting Milford Sound, I highly recommend that you spend two night in Milford. Avoid the weekends! Since this is the only authorized place for accommodation for tourists, I chose this place. I booked a shared dorm room for two night. As it was shared, we had a full booking and one particular group of Americans acted like they owned the place, talking really loudly and all. The room was cosy with a room heater. The shared/common areas are pretty good. However, it is limited in space. The kitchen area is small. When the lodge is at max occupancy, it feels really cramped. The bathrooms and showrooms are plenty and very clean. You have a laundry room too and it's pricey. Wifi is not free! You pay $5 for 200 MB and $7 for 500 MB (not fully sure), valid for 24 hours. Make sure you turn off your auto updates and sync. Mine got over in less than 24 hrs!
They cafe is doesn't have great/filling vegetarian options. The veg items some form of variation of bread. On two occasions i ordered potato wedges with a sweet/chilly sauce and it was awesome! :) The surrounding areas are really nice, lush greenery everywhere. The staff are very friendly and are patient. You get complimentary drops to the main info center, and other areas upon request.
C.
Being one of the very few places one can stay in Milford Sound, it would be easy for them to take advantage of the situation. Instead, they offer comfy bedding (in dorm rooms) or modern accommodation in their lodges. Onsite facilities are well maintained and the cafe and restaurant had some of the best food and coffee we experienced during our stay in New Zealand.
All things considered, they offer very good value for money. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
V.
Friendly and helpful staff. Awesome room with beautiful views all around. We had the river chalet and the room had everything except for a cooktop. It had a fridge, microwave and various other utensils one may need. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The sofa bed is also comfy. The room is equipped with a heater and also a humidifier. The bathroom is of a good size. They also have dorms which is a cheaper option. Ample car park space and for chalets residents the car can be parked next to the chalet. In the backyard we had the river stream flowing with a backdrop of a large mountain with multiple waterfalls (probably caused by ice melting). The Kea birds would often be found roaming around the chalets and are lovely to watch. The cafe food is fantastic and loved it. We would certainly stay here if we visit Milford Sound again.
C.
Had the 1-night Campervan package and the experience was wonderful. We ended up coming in late (around 11pm) but still had an easy check in. The bathrooms we're clean, the showers hot. Detergent was provided for the laundry. All of the sites had power and water. We didn't use the kitchen but it looked clean and nicely appointed. but Breakfast was included in the package and was delicious at the Pio Pio Cafe. A 9:30 am cruise was also included with picnic lunch onboard - it was nice to be able to beat the crowds down and be able to head out on the road early. All told it was a great experience and a great deal.
I.
Magical views from the riverside chalets. Great food in the restaurant and the chefs went out of their way to cater for odd dietary requirements! Very friendly, conscientious staff . We will be back when we have more time to enjoy the stunning scenery!
M.
Only camping site available in Milford Sound. A little bit pricey, but worth it! The surroundings are beautiful! It has good facilities - lots of showers and toilets (all clean with good pressure and hot water), plenty of kitchen preparation and cooking space, communal lounge/dinning. There are also cabins of varying sizes, which I didn't see inside. Plus, there is a small restaurant and cafe, and lots of information available at reception.
G.
There's not much choice if you want to stay in Milford and avoid the 2hr drive from Te Anau for your cruise in the morning. Of the two choices, this looks the better one.
This is a stack 'em high, keep 'em happy accommodation. The site is quite busy - catering for families to backpackers. Prices are reasonable, the accommodation is clean and staff fairly helpful. There is also cooked food available for purchase on site as well as a self catering kitchen.
Top top - Bring something to keep the sand flies off, these are everywhere there is no wind at Milford Sound (thankfully the rooms do have bug screens).
J.
We stopped at the Milford Sound Lodge after a number of days freedom camping and we're sure glad we did! The amenities were very well maintained and clean (showers, laundry, etc.) and the food and service at the Pio Pio Cafe were great. Would highly recommend this to anyone visiting the Milford Sound area!
K.
Five stars for being right in Milford Sound and being affordable... We stayed in the dorms and while they were drafty, they were clean and comfortable. The kitchen facilities, although a short walk away, were nice and new. The bathroom was huge and I never encountered a wait for a shower or toilet. Would stay again!
G.
I stayed in the dorms and it was fine for the price. If you want a more private experience get a chalet. The kayak guides were very good and the cruises were excellent. There is also scuba but I did not do it. The views of nature is what you would come here for.
M.
I wouldn't have be lived that such good class accommodation is available so close to Milford Sound. We had a lovely cabin looking right on to the river through a large plate glass window. Nicely furnished and both dinner and breakfast were excellent.
A.
One of lifes must do's when visiting the area. We spent two nights here in a river chalet. View was absolutely incredible and staying in Milford Sound allowed us to take our time enjoying the scenery. Free breakfast was a bonus too. Highly recommend adding this to your bucket list!
c.
Absolutely loved our stay at the lodge. The view is absolutely breath taking. The restaurant has great food. The service was really nice and it is kids/family friendly. We'll definitely recommend this place and come back!
A.
The most amazing accom we have ever stayed in! Breathtaking views (if you book a room with a view) and the food at Pio Pio cafe was divine.
Brilliant service.
There is no phone reception (which was perfect.) They also have a huge DVD collection to watch a movie at night in your room.
Perfect for a very special occasion.
V.
Beautiful spot and stunning scenery - rooms were warm, modern, and well appointed. Lovely big shower and beds that were super comfortable. Food at the lodge was absolutely delicious!
T.
Fantastic place to stay (the only place to stay) but still incredible. We splashed out for the river view room with stunning views and great facilities. The restaurant serves tasty food but make sure you book as it gets busy. A little pricey but that is to be expected.
S.
What a fantastic holiday park. Nestled in amongst native trees with each parking spot separated from one another by the trees, it really is a great place to stay. Make sure you stay here if you go to Milford.
D.
Amazing views where ever you look within this lodge. Friendly and helpful staff who are more than willing to show you to your accommodation if required. A short brisk walk to the boat terminal for all your Milford Sound Tours. The restaurant was the only let down in our stay with slow service and overcooked food they are also the only place to serve cooked food. Would love to stay here again sometime soon!
E.
Excellent food, probably one of the best meal I had so far in NZ. Cured salmon was delicious. We booked the experience package and had a river view. Which was pretty beautiful. My egg's Benedict at breakfast were pretty amazing too. Can't wait to be back
T.
No words can describe the magical Milford Sound and the lodge itself. We stayed at the riverside chalet and it was definitely once in our lifetime experience. A big shout out to all the guys at the lodge and restaurant, you guys are super amazing!!
P.
Best hot chocolate I've had in a long time!
N.
The location is stunning and the bathrooms and community areas are top notch. We stayed in the 10 person dorm. There are no box springs and the mattresses are thin. Otherwise it was a great experience. Good food. Expensive but that's expected out in the middle of nowhere.
B.
WOW!!!!! TOTALLY WORTH THE COST!! The cabins are beautiful and the views are even more beautiful than the marketing materials. The bonus is that if you stay overnight, you have an opportunity to see the stars in one of the clearest night skies in the world! The dinner at the lodge was fantastic as well!! Both the venison and the pork belly were perfectly cooked!!
C.
Great place to rest after completing the Milford track. We stayed in a river chalet, which was pricey but well worth the money for one night of luxurious relaxation after four days of hiking with a pack on our backs. The hotel restaurant is also very good. The one complaint is that the hotel is a 30 minute hike from Milford sound itself, and this was not made clear on the website. After thinking we were finished hiking, we had to do one more hike along the highway to reach the hotel. Not fun. They do have a shuttle, however, so just make sure to call ahead of time and make arrangements.
S.
We camped in a motorhome..lovely campsite...it poured with rain so we're able to see many waterfalls in Milford sound. We also booked the boat tour package via the lodge which we took the next morning. A full hot breakfast was included and a packed lunch with everything you could imagine was provided by the boat..the boat tour was spectacular and the weather turned sunny...we saw thousands of extra waterfalls in the sound...overall everything was perfect...from the lodge accommodation to the amazing boat tour...completely recommend to anyone thinking of going....
S.
Facilities were very plentiful and very clean. My wife and I stayed in one of the shared rooms. There were five beds in our room. The food there is the best in the area by far, so make sure you make a dinner reservation when you check in. Also, book this place well in advance because it is booked up every night in the summer.
M.
Lovely place to stay. Chose the mixed dorm room (which is economic), clean and spacious. Good clean showers. The restuarant has some amazing food (which is probably not that economic, but who cares - you're in milford sound), and the cafe's open till late if you wanna grab a beer or snacks. Lovely staff too. Definitely coming back.
M.
We stayed in a campervan. Good place (the only one if you're looking for something next to Milford Sound Cruise terminals). Nice staff, good facilities, clean and modern. Remember your repellent ;) and also don't expect good wifi, it's satellite due to the remote location (all good!)
G.
This is the only site at Milford Sound, as such it is quite expensive but well worth it, it's a stunning area.Facilities are superb, kitchen and toilets very clean and there is a lovely communal area. Sites for campervans are well laid out within the woods. Close to the Terminal for the cruises. Would highly recommend this site but be warned, the sandflies are nasty little devils. We went well prepared with bug repellent, after bite and anti histamine but we still suffered.
G.
Very expensive and the Cafe has a very limited menu, I could not eat there the second night .. The positives are, great room nice and cozy with stunning Views .. Staff were keen to help also ..
R.
Mixed bag. Entrees, mains and deserts were delicious. Soup was especially tasty. Wedges were average and not cooked very well. Service was very patchy, few staff on, some clearly very inexperienced. Orders would be brought into the cafe and circulated around, with wait staff asking if each table had ordered the item in question. Only the good manners of the guests saw people receive their meals in the order in which they were placed. Orders sometimes didn't make it to the kitchen, or got lost. Charging was also inconsistent, though in our case worked out in our favour more often than not. Stayed in a bunkroom. Very uncomfortable for anyone tall. Small beds, quite low ceilings. However, as one of the few accommodation options in Milford Sound, it wasn't exhorbitively expensive. Would stay again, but not in a bunkroom.
K.
Comfortable rooms with breath-taking views, great food, but the best thing about our stay was the service...from keeping us informed about the road closure, rebooking us on another cruise after our original one was cancelled, and offering to personally drop off some items left behind, on their way through Queenstown...the staff are absolutely the best!!
G.
We have spend one night at the camping Milford lodge , the staff was friendly and the facilities were clean and we have love the design of wood everywhere. The campsite are not too close to each other . The only problems was the shower , they are clean and tidy but there was a queue of 4 peoples anytime . We were going to have showers around 7:30 am and we couldn't because of the queue and our appointment for our activities of the day ...
H.
Great facilities with a clean kitchen, bathroom, and common space area for those in campervans. The staff was super friendly and helpful the entire time we stayed there with realistic assessments of the weather and hikability of trails.
Didn’t eat dinner there, but the Pio Pio Cafe served us some splendid Flat Whites.
C.
Our non powered spot number 9 was just perfect - especially as it's the only one where you are not directly next to other vans. So you have extra privacy. The facilities are new and the kitchen is well equipped. But as there so many people staying there all the time both need more attention. So please add another cleaning shift and the place would be perfect :)
N.
Lovely staff, very helpful for a solo tramper. Great meals/coffee and free shuttles down to the wharf. My only critique would be the pillows are very thin, but otherwise a nice, relaxing stay after 3 days in a tent!
J.
Amazing location, excellent facilities, and friendly staff! Only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 was that they strangely clean the toilets and shower at 7am, which is when a lot of people are trying to take showers to head off for cruises! We had to queue for about 25 minutes which had us rushing slightly to get to our cruise on time!
H.
Wow. So remote, yet great quality. Powered sites are in a mature forest, gving it a very "natural feeling" (even though the next site is close). Showers and toilets really excellent. Restaurant great. Sandflies ... not so great. But it is a small nuisance if you can stay here for 1 or 2 night and go on much less crowded tours of Milford Sound (either early or late on the day). Situated in a picturesque setting of creek/river/mountains/forest. You hear many planes flying by due to the local airstrip, but nothing bothersome -- it adds to the experience. Free shuttle to and from terminal. One minor point to improve: more kitchen area / sinks. Even in low(er) season, it was quite full.
P.
Stayed for one night in one of the well appointed wooden cabins. It was peaceful and had all the facilities you would require. Had an excellent evening meal in the cafe, it exceeded all expectations. However, breakfast was a little disorganised. Maybe they were not used to catering for a large group, 20, arriving together?
K.
The RV site was perfect. The facilities where nothing like ive seen in a "caravan park" separate shower rooms that stayed nice and toasty! The kitchen & lounge was also big and modern with plenty of room to cook and relax!
A.
I am so sick of seeing waterfalls .
This was a great place to stay before doing the cruise , the views of the waterfalls in the mountains , from the room, was fantastic. The food at the restaurant was great and the service of the people was very good . there was limited Wi-Fi or add and telephone there.
It was a bit pricey but the price is worth it considering the option of travelling from the nearest town or staying in the campervan
D.
Busy place, but campers are efficient so kitchen is a flurry of activity. Dining area didn't match it for size.
Note: no telephone connection at all.
We think it is best to visit in the rain, as uncountable waterfalls form everywhere along the Sound and the road.
d.
Located about a 15 minute walk away from the cruise terminal of Milford sound, the lodge is adequate for a night or two stay at their lodging. The staff were very friendly and the facilities were clean. The only downside was a lack of budget friendly food as the on site restaurant was relatively expensive.
U.
I stayed 3 nights in Milford Sound Lodge and I really liked it ! The location is soo amazing, a great place, breathtaking landscapes around, surounded by mountains, 20 minutes walking from the boat terminal (but they can give you a lift to be on time for the cruise), good sofa area, great kitchen, great shower and toilets, really clean, staff really friendly and helpfull. The only negative point is that is a bit too crowded, and you don't really feel like "at home". No coverage nor wifi but that's the price for being in one of the most amazing and beautiful place in NZ (wifi is expensive for the lodge, even the staff have to pay if they want wifi) ! You don't need any wifi to enjoy the fiordland anyway ! Most of the people are staying one night doing only the cruise, but I would definetly recommend spending 3 or 4 nights there and really enjoy the "Milford Sounds" area, do the hikes around (which are trully amazing, even more amazing than the boat cruise for some like Gertrude Saddle, Lake Marian or Keysumit) and enjoy the advantages of sleeping right there ! I even had time to take breathtaking pictures of the sunrise (well, at 6am, you're the only one out there in front of the Sounds). Ah, and no shops out there, don't forget your food !
m.
Chalet accommodation was clean and spacious. Privacy was an issue with people walking past or stopping outside our patio doors. Restaurant service was hit and miss, they kept on forgetting our orders, not mentioning specials, let us hang around 15 minutes waiting for our pre booked table etc.
C.
Campervan sites are set into beech forest, very scenic. Good facilities for campers. Courtesy van for all users. The cabins and chalets look great, with many having river views. Restaurant and bar on site. Staff are helpful with information and trip bookings.
M.
Stayed in an 11 bed backpackers, the room is warm, and have enough space for our stuffs. But when someone snores (prolly due to long drive going to this lodge), it somewhat resonates through the whole room. The common facilities, i.e. kitchen is very nice and has everything you'll need. The bathrooms and toilets are clean and modern. You can also do laundry. Remember to bring insect repellant. I must commend their staff and the travellers who stay here, because I left my camera in the kitchen, but remembered after our Milford Sound cruise (that's like 3 hrs after). Went back to the lodge, asked the staff, and it was returned back to me. Thank you to these honest group of people.
S.
Milford Sound Lodge is the only option if you want to stay overnight in Milford. We booked a bed and boat package which included our Mountain View Chalet, breakfast in the Pio Pio Cafe, a Southern Discoveries Encounter Nature Cruise with a picnic lunch and a visit to the Underwater Observatory. Our room was spacious with a comfortable bed, nice bathroom and sensational views of the mountains and river. We were given vouchers for 200mb of data but the internet was a little bit slow and the signal intermittent. We opted to use the guest kitchen to cook our dinner. The kitchen was very well equipped with 4 commercial gas cook tops and various pots, pans and utensils. It was quite busy but we didn't have to wait very long.
Our breakfasts at the Pio Pio Café were delicious but the coffees were very ordinary - weak and cold.
It is very expensive for what you get, however the location is excellent and it meant that we could take our time and enjoy the drive from Te Anau to Milford.
S.
Wow. We were rained in for four days and couldn't leave. Crazy/amazing/perfect place to be trapped. Staff were mostly young international peeps enjoying life and very cool and caring - went out of their way to help keep my kids happy. Probably my personal favourite holiday experience. Ever.
A.
Absolutely fantastic. We stayed in a riverfront challet and it was brilliant. The room was very modern and nice. Had great views of the river and mountains. The staff were nice. The complimentary breakfast that got delivered to your room was delicious.
K.
Amazing place! Made our trip! Friendly and open staff, all visible happy! Good chats to a bunch of them - rooms are amazing, probably won’t ever have a better window view! Food is awesome, can’t wait to go back one day hopefully soon
A.
Really nice place to stay and eat. But pricey.
T.
Good service. Good location. Very comfortable. Minor complaints such as zero wifi connectivity at our chalet. And they clump the guests together instead of spreading them out. We had 2 occupied chalets right next door to us while there were 5 continuous empty chalets. For $400/night you'd expect some quality privacy.
C.
Do yourself a favour and book two nights in a river view cabin.
Fabulous meals, gorgeous cabins to relax and watch the world go by.
Exploring Milford Sound is a bare minimum 2 days.
Too beautiful to rush.
X.
It was an amazing experience. We stayed in a Riverside chalet. There were some amazing views. I have never seen so many stars in the sky at night. And the Milford Sound Discovery tour was beautiful.
A.
Quite expensive campsite but value for money. Brand new toilet/shower/kitchen block at the side. Laundry takes 35 minutes (3 NZD). Drying is also 3NZD. Not completely dry, but there is a heated dry room also. Friendly staff. It is possible to book and pay a cruise for Milford Sound at reception. Shuttle being you to the harbour. Free repellent (sand flies!). In the restaurant I could order fruit as dessert which was not on the menu. Lovely!
T.
Stayed a night in the dorm rooms. Standard dorm rooms, no complaints. Really nice facilities, big bathrooms with plenty of showers. Great view to the river and quick walk to Milford sound. Cafe/ restaurant was a bit pricey.
P.
Amazing (and cheap!) campground, beautiful surroundings, and a spectacular dining experience. I had their lamb and it was divine. Would definitely order again.
The spicy shrimp and squid? Avoid that one, it's not particularly good.
W.
Wonderful stay at the powered site at Milford Sound Lodge, which is the closest site to the Milford Sound Cruise Terminal (about 2.3km away which you can either walk, drive or take the shuttle bus at selected times to reach this place for cruise or forehore walk). The staff at reception were friendly and helpful, and the facilities are updated and clean. However, the kitchen could become very crowded during meal times. For campervan, the check-in was after 11am and check-out was by 11am, which gave a bit more time to explore the area. If anyone would like to use the facilities outside of these times, please see reception for an $8 day pass that allow you to continue to use the facilities.
▪Waste Water
There is one allocated dump site for the small community. Follow the road in the direction of Milford Sound, take the 3rd right turn into the carpark (after the Mitre Peak Lodge, Disover Milford Café and petrol station), just around the corner you will see the sign for waste water.
Water
▪There are various taps located around the site. These is also one outside reception. The petrol station in Milford also has a tap which is free to use.
Communal Areas
▪There are a 24-hr guest kitchen, dining and lounge area and laundry room; complimentary DVD and board game hire, bathrooms and hot showers. There is also an onsite (Pio Pio) café/bar as well as information service at the reception desk.
Internet
▪There is no mobile network at Milford Sound. A good time to break away from social media and work-related emails and calls. However, there is (paid) internet onsite; this is received by satellite and can at times be temperamental at certain areas on the site. Information regarding the internet and vouchers are available at reception.
Site at Night
▪The site can be very dark at night and torches are recommended when moving around after dark.
Shuttle Bus Service to Cruise Terminal
▪8:30am (on request from guests) - to meet the first cruises of the day
▪12:45pm - to pick up guests returning from cruises
▪2:15pm - to meet buses departing to Queenstown/Te Anau
▪4:15pm - to meet guests coming off the water taxi from thr Milford Track
▪5:30pm (on request) - to pick up guests returning from the last cruises of the day
[Soms shuttle buses are on request, please call their local number 03 249 8051)
K.
The two bedroom cabin we had was 5 Star accommodation. Friendly/cheeky Weka in the carpark.
W.
Be advised this is the ONLY place to stay in Milford Sound. Rooms are of modest size, but the layout is exquisite in the use of space. The restaurant is okay (again only one in town). There are very limited supplies in Milford Sound. All of this cautionary notes are simply to alert you to bring what you think you will need, not at to dissuade you from visiting this visually stunning location.
C.
Decent place with clean and well maintained facilities. Really friendly and helpful staff too! However wifi was expensive and we had really poor connection ($7 for 250MB) and Pio Pio Cafe was even more so; we paid $120 for 2 people and the food wasn't that great either. You are definitely better off cooking your own meal or driving back down to Te Anau for the night.
M.
Nice place to stay which makes you realize how lucky you are to have amenities and pure nature at the doorstep. Chalets are very comfortable with everything you might need during your stay. Expensive though but the price can be interpreted as an "environmental tax". Large collection of DVDs available for the rainy day
R.
Spectacular location. Sand flies are the only downside, little divils.
Stayed 2 nights to enjoy the cruise and food experience. You could do all this in the one day, which I would recommend.
J.
Nice lodge. Clean. Common kitchen/chillout is nice but the layout is kind of weird; you need to go outside and through another door to get to the restrooms and the showers which is not very practical. It was very warm in the kitchen as well as in the dorm room. Dorms are small but clean and what can be expected in such a remote area. They have WiFi by satellite for $10/100MB. No tent sites on account of the gravel; it would be nice of they could setup a patch of grass for tents.
D.
If you are going to the Milford Sound, just book the Milford Sound Lodge right now. This is the most amazing accomodation and restaurant you will ever experience. The riverside chalet is incredible with stunning views of the Sound and surrounding mountains, along with being completely self-contained apartments. The restuarant was the best food I have eaten in all of New Zealand, and was for the cheapest price. I am talking Michelin Star quality food, for the same price as a standard restaurant in Queenstown - The Head Chef and his ktichen staff should be very proud of the quality of food they are producing and do the Milford Sound Lodge proud. The Staff are friendly and willing to help make your stay as comfortable as possible. I can't wait to come back here again.
V.
The campsite is located in a beautiful valley with view of multiple waterfalls from certain campsites. It's one of the few accomodations in the area. The site is peaceful however it is almost like camping in the wild . Very narrow pathways for vehicles to manuever. The campsites allocated to us and our neighbours were not paved. And too small for a big campervan. There were no grey water drainages at each individual campsite. And getting in and out of the vehicle was messy in the rain due to unpaved parking space. The showers or bathing facilities were unisex, spacious and clean. There was common kitchen facility which we didn't use hence cannot comment. Wifi was available on demand and very expensive for few mb since there was no network coverage available for any network operator. For a night, it was manageable. However for longer stay it might not be the best as it lacks some facilities provided by most campsites we have stayed at earlier.
P.
Tasteful and luxurious accommodation with fantastic views.
Had dinner at the restaurant and I can honestly say it was one of the best meals I've ever had.
K.
Delightful accommodations in a stunning location with bunks sleeping around 12 per room, never a wait for a shower or bathroom and the communal kitchen was well equipped. Private rooms were also available as well as a sit down restaurant and bar.
J.
REALLY NICE STAFF THAT WORK HERE, WONDERFUL COFFEE ON OUR WAY HOME FROM CAMERA CLUB TRIP. REALLY NICE PHOTOGRAPHY IN HERE ALSO
A.
Stayed in a 8 bed mixed dorm in the middle of May. The rooms for some reason had their heater turned on ridiculously high. The only way to sleep was to open the window and let all the sandflies in. Not only that, but the lodge thought it would be a great idea to put a cigarette waste bin right outside our door so 3 guys were out there all night and we could hear and smell their smoke since the windows were open. Also, room 21 is right next to the kitchen so I didn't get any sleep that night either because I could here people from the kitchen. The bathrooms and showers are completely private and very nice, as is the kitchen and lounge areas. The pio pio cafe is delicious but remember to bring your own food since it's the only option and it's quite pricey (but so good!). Overall, I would come here again, but stay in a different room.
M.
Everything was amazing. Room was clean, bed huge and comfortable, view stunning. Staff could not have been more helpful. Definitely recommend.
J.
Wow this place is beautiful! The lodge rims are very nice. The bunkhouses are what they are. The community kitchen is large and the community room is well appointed.
WiFi is available but very limited and expensive.
Very friendly staff.
D.
Good little park in a beautiful spot. Good facilities and warm showers. Restaurant is basic but staff were nice. They run a shuttle to the boats if you are staying for multiple nights.
Pricing is the same as the centre of Queenstown, which is pretty good. Wifi is $10 per 100mb so didn't test it out.
S.
Stayed here in a camper van but there are other options too. Beautiful but mind the sandflies...ouch!
There are other options for accommodations so check the website and book early as things fill up fast. With the trek to the end of fjordlands if you enjoy the outdoors. It is extremely peaceful and maintained as naturally as possible. Look out for tree avalanches, something you won't see or hear about very often except here.
K.
This place is 100% bang for your buck. We got a powered campsite for our campervan and the accommodations and bathrooms were very clean and well kept. I definitely recommend staying here if you're in Milford Sound.
I.
Great accomodations very close to Milford Sound. Spacious and nicely shaded place for your campervan. Laundry room, plenty of WC and shower rooms. A TV lounge, kitchen - all at your service. If you're lucky, you'll see a kea walking around here :)
There's also a restaurant on site (you can book your dinner ahead). Be sure to book your stay in MS Lodge well in advance as there are limited accomodation places near MS.
M.
This place is super nice and cosy. It's getting a little cold in May but this place just makes you feel at home. I was only staying in a campervan site but the front desk were all super helpful and made everyone feel welcome. It was so nice we decided to stay an extra night just to really enjoy the place.
Special shout out to Dill and Matt for helping out with our stay.
M.
Holy expletive. This place blew us away. We spent 3 days of our honeymoon here and it was the absolute most amazing place we’ve ever been to. Get the river chalet and never regret it. The food is good, the scenery is amazing and the experience unreal.
M.
Really amazing location, and the restaurant has a great selection of food. The rooms are really comfortable and quiet. The restaurant also caters to dietary requirements very well. I recommend this in particular to couples having a romantic getaway!
D.
Amazing place with views . Quite expensive for the cottages but worth the experience . Caravans are allowed and there's a communal kitchen . They've stopped internet facility recently . They offer 100mb complimentary only for guests but that sucks anyway. Only important emails can be checked in HTML mode . Phone reception is NIL . Kitchen inside serves good food .
I.
Quality of the food is very good, portions of the mains are quite big (especially the lamb). Quite pricy with mains around 30 bucks without a budget choice
Service is quite fast and they have a decent choice in drinks with som good wines and beers
Restaurant is quite big and has combo of couches and normal seating.
It also has cafe and can serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. All on set times: dinner is only between 6pm and 9pm
This is the only restaurant in the neighbourhood
D.
The challets are amazing, with some awesome views to the mountains. The room was big and had everything, all top quality. The place is expensive but you can see that at least the quality is high as well. If you have the $$$ it is well worth spending one night.
k.
What a beautiful place it is and very nice service.we booked camp site for a night Very nice experience to see the natives birds like kea wekka and some others,24 hours open kitchen and really beautiful view around. Definitely will visit again 👍
M.
Food is surprisingly good, but very expensive. The showers are hot and the views on the river are really nice as well. Gotta pay for WiFi - it isn’t too expensive but won’t reach reliably out to the campervan parking.
D.
Stunning location and comfortable room. The staff are very nonchalant, probably because they're tourists too, meaning the service is pretty slow and sometimes you get ignored while they flirt with someone else. Beautiful waking up to waterfalls right outside your window though.
C.
Amazing place. There isn't much around here if you're looking for other restaurants or bars. If you drive down to the docks there is one location next to the info center that has decent food and drinks. While they are expensive it is much cheaper than the restaurant at the lodge. We did the routeburn trail and stayed here two nights. Could have easily done it in one night as we originally thjoight there would be more nearby. Some old websites state there's a cafe and a bar but those are closed and have merged with the cafe in the info center.
L.
So far the best powered site in the south island, but you also pay for it (55$/night). But location nestled in the beautiful nature and the top-notch facilities (super showers!) make the price reasonable.
A.
Milford Sound Lodge was great. It's obviously in a beautiful location, but the facilities were clean and nice and the staff members were very welcoming and helpful. We only stayed one night, but I wish we would have stayed longer!
W.
Good campground, had some issues with other customers rummaging through people's laundry. Also the restaurant is pretty small and needs to be booked in advance, however, the fresh salmon was excellent.
A.
We stayed at a powered sight. The location was amazing! The facilities were great! Massive kitchen, closed in privet shower and toilet rooms, very helpful staff :)
I.
Between the five site i have been to, this is the best one so far
Pros: big shower and toilet cubicles with sink on each of them, some of the even has toilet and shower in one room. They even have heated towel rack for the bathroom.
Has its own river stream that is instagramable
Very clean and modern kitchen, dining room, and lounge.
Cons: no free wifi and the wifi that you pay is only for 1 device
Some of the shower pressures are weak and the temperature can get hot at one point and warmer at one point
Tip: before buying the wifi, note it is only for 1 device and not shareable
C.
The backpackers portion is okay but not great. The YHA in Te Anau is much better.
Complaints: pretty crowded rooms, seriously bagged out foam mattress with a flat spot in the middle, no ability to open windows in our subsection of the room, and significant noise from other rooms.
Positives: Clean rooms and beds, great kitchen and bathroom facilities.
T.
One of the few places to stay in Milford Sound so the high price is expected but to be fair the property is quite nice and the campervan facilities (kitchen/toilets/lounge) are all modern and clean so definitely a good place to stay when visiting this must see place!
J.
This place has a special feeling, can not get any cell connection and feels like you are in the wild. Campervan sites have their own area with trees surrounding so gives you good private feel. Beware of sandflies and mosquitoes!
M.
Nice location and it is worth overnight stay in woods away from hustle bustle . Obviously no connectivity makes you really out of world experience. But it is worth as you can catch 9 am Cruise which give you first opportunity to see the national park and opportunity to see nature at its best.
H.
Such a special place. Spend at least 2 days here to truly let it all sink in. The food is incredible
S.
Spent Christmas here. The staff put on a great feast and were super accommodating. Really nice rooms - on the pricey side for a chalet but the only place to stay the night in Milford Sound.
I.
Riverside Chalet rooms have everything you need, from the best river and mountain views to underfloor heating. Staff are great, friendly and helpful, and the restaurant serves good food which is not too expensive considering it's the only option.
N.
The environment is beautiful. Kitchen is great. Bathroom also great. I visiting during a Dec ( summer ) staying in dome room it was so hard for me to sleep as the air is not flow.
A.
Fabulous campground amongst the trees with weka and kea visitng - don't feed them! Warm lounge and Sky Sports on the big screen (who would guess?) - no internet or cell coverage though. Clean as.
J.
Wonderful spot. The rooms are lovely and OMG the view from the sitting area. Wee hickup in the restaurant but staff showed how perfect customer service is delivered.
Z.
Amazing views. Beautiful scenery. Just one small note. No mobile phone reception, at all in Milford sound. It really is an escape. There is satellite data of 100mb per stay. Use it wisely. Satellite data is expensive otherwise. There is public wifi in spots at Milford sound but you pay about $50 for 250mb of data. Let friends and family know you will be uncontactable at Milford sound, but don't let this discourage you. It is so very worth it. Its an amazing place.
N.
Pio Pio Cafe is a really good Cafe to go to. Their coffee was excellent and their food was just as good especially their pulled pork sandwich. If you are travelling to Milford sound using your own transportation, I recommend this place for lunch.
J.
Stayed in one of the mountain chalets for two nights. One of the best experiences ever. Pricy, yes, but you can't beat the view!! The heated floors were a nice touch.
P.
Stayed at the cabins there. Was very well furnished and had a great view to wake up to. Recommend it if you want to stay and Milford sound overnight
K.
Amazing simple breath taking so clean and just Amazing surroundings
C.
A beautiful place with walking distance to Milford Sound. All my families loved the modern design lodge.
The food in the restaurant was surprisingly good.
W.
Fantastic place awesome lodge. Needs some maintenance done. Breakfasts were disappointing. But over all lovely people.
S.
Just OMG. If there is a more beautiful spot to park your Campervan in New Zealand... I would love to know where it is.
K.
The kitchen and the lounge are a great place to hang out after all the activities you can so I the area. Rally cozy. Also worth mentioning, the only place you can find accommodation for in Milford Sound.
C.
I’ve been fortunate to stay at the MS Lodge a few times and each time the service has been so welcoming and helpful and the location is just incredible! I hope to return again in the future.
h.
Breath taking views from room. The heated floor making a hug differents. Very clean. The restaurant we had dinner and breakfast great quality food
B.
Stayed in a bunk room it was nice. The location is insane book a few nights and plan things after!
F.
Service from the stuff is amazing Hope to come here again 10 out to 10
M.
One of the highlights of our time in NZ. Wonderful accommodation, wonderful food (well above what we expected), wonderful staff, wonderful place to stay and to wake up in.
Z.
Is a prefect place !
But only fit for have a lot of time traveller,
because didn't have many things you can do.
You need to drive totally 6 hours form Queenstown ,justfor take a look one views.
If you want to join the cruise,
the afternoon time is the best,
because on the morning too much cloud ,
Nothing you can see
D.
Amazing views from this location. Stayed in a 4 bed backpacker room in the lodge. Bathroom facilities were a bit outdated especially when compared to the (new?) campervan facilities.
A.
Clean and hot shower, big kitchen and nice dinning room. The guy at the reception was friendly and helpful for extra information. A lot of sandflies... But they are part of Milford Sound
A.
Stayed in a dorm with a group and the accommodation was great, would definitely return here. Restaurant also fantastic for dinner and breakfast. Great service and stunning setting.
M.
These guys have had a rough time of it this season, but they have bent over backward to give their guests a great experience. The service, food and accommodation all met or exceeded our high expectations.
G.
What a great place to stay peaceful the powerd site are great lovely surrounding the kitchen and lounge are good the shower are fantastic lots of room and hot hot water a great place to stay we had a ball meet lots of people
g.
The place was well furnished. Data was severely limited due to location however it provides a good chance to get away from the grid entirely free boards avaliable to borrow. open kitchen might get crowded
m.
Good place to stay while waiting weather to calm. Back to nature. I'm stay with forest viee and the view awesome during raining day. Worth every penny you spent
M.
Pio pio was great , the venison wasperfect .
The river chalets were first class.
Breakfast was great.
A must do.
b.
After a visit to Milford Sound and giving up on a park we luckily found this place where we had a lovley lunch. Free parking as well.
A.
Best venue for Motorhomes in NZ given it's location.
Staff absolutely amazing. Nothing too much trouble!
I cannot recommend here too highly
G.
Best campground experience we had while driving a campervan on the South Island. It's location is on the edge of the Sound & the staff are friendly & professional. On
S.
A very well maintained lodge with modern amenities. A bit pricy but considering its remoteness and limited availability of lodges around the area, it is the best option. There is a cafe with variety of vegetarian and non vegetarian options. I would definitely recommend this lodge.
A.
Great place. Maybe not for everyone's budget, but we had a good time. Accommodation is very neat and staff very friendly and professional
P.
Top notch! People were very helpful and friendly, toilet and shower area for caravans was just awesome and the food was great got some starters as mains filled us up something chronic good stuff!!
A.
Great kitchen, nice location. Wifi costs money, though available for purchase. One member in our party purchased wifi and was able to voice chat without difficulty. Would recommend
J.
What a gorgeous park! (We camped here in our campervan).
Excellent camp kitchen and facilities, wonderful atmosphere, great restaurant and perfect customer service.
N.
A pleasant experience, wished we could have purchased things from the restaurant for takeaway. Stunning views.
T.
Absolutely stunning place would recommend staying out there, love the sustainability theme throughout the lodge
C.
Felt right at home. Staff are very welcoming and helpful. Food at their restaurant is amazing! Very warm and comfortable rooms. Will definitely be going back.
M.
One of the best campsites that we've encountered on our whole South Is trip...loced the Kea and Weka strolling around
M.
Excellent facilities, cafe and restaurant. Friendly staff. Perfect stay for us in our camper van.
J.
Beautiful location, friendly staff who handled a blackout well. Unfortunately the camp kitchen was filthy and we had 3/4 of our food stolen from the kitchen fridge and this put a real dampener on our experience there.
R.
Milford sound lodge is exceptional...our fourth time there to stay...first couple of times in the river chalets and the two last times in the mountain view chalets...stunning accommodation...warm and very clean with comfortable furnishings and super comfy large King bed...good sized bathroom...plunger coffee and a mini bar...perfect setting and stunning views...all staff are amazing and friendly and professional and helpful...pio pio restaurant and their chefs are part of the worlds best...their meals are outstanding...soup of the day and the beef cheeks and the cheese balls truly food from heaven...a la carte breakfast comes with the room rate and was a perfect finish to our nights stay...keep doing what you're doing team...you rock.
M.
"The only game in town" as they say. However, one must try their restaurant. Delicious and unique fare. Excellent service. Best Veggie Bennie ever. Notably prices are reasonable given they are sole source.
J.
Super expensive and overpriced but it's a monopoly business catering to one time tourists who will never come back. Restaurant food is very bland and overpriced too. Bring your own food.
F.
Awesome camper van powered sites in the Forrest, very close to the cruises. Good food in the restaurant, rare venison was brilliant.
B.
The accommodation was dreamy And they made extraordinary effort to make our visit great dispite Fiordlands epic flood Only reason not a 5 is the food was not great as would have been expected
C.
Adequate lodging. But, hey, you're at Milford Sound! Where else on earth could you possibly want to go?
R.
One of the highlights of our trip was staying here. Incredible views and the team really look after you here. Wish we stayed another might or two here.
M.
Nice facilities, fantastic views, tasty meals and coffee available from Pio Pio Cafe. Likewise, for those whom wish to dine at the cafe for dinner, bookings are advised to avoid disappointment.
K.
OMG this place is absolutely hands down just beautiful and amazing, most definitely one of the best vacation spots I have ever been to...so far. Very much recommend to all!!
R.
It is a beautiful place Milford sound and the lodge is the only accommodation available so it is a little expensive. The staff are pleasant and helpful and the food reasonable.
S.
Just popped in to get some snacks on our way back to Te Anau. Staff were friendly but took awhile to process our order through the till (and it was very easy). Feel like they could have better training.
J.
The chalets are incredible with amazing views! Definitely worth staying here. The cafe is also good.
C.
Great place to stay! Cleaning of the kitchen and bathrooms could happen more often and Jess if a real asset to the team! Dil not so much.
D.
Such a wonderful stop on our trip. A great location with a good restaurant and trails and views. Great room!
Y.
Cosy room, very helpful and friendly staff, and delicious food in the restaurant - i mean, as the only accomodation in the sound you couldn't really ask too much - except the toilet is a bit cold at night.
J.
Great meals. Nice new shower, toilet and kitchen block. Great spot below the mountains. Loved it.
G.
foods awesome chalets are modern & warm staff are helpful.nice place to relax n chill
Z.

L.
Pleasant cabin escape from all the hustle and bustle and with no internet/cellular reception. Highly recommend you stay a night..
J.
i love this place. out of the world feeling with modern and clean amenities and kitchen. and its just right beside a stream with adds to the serenity. no internet or cellular network here.
R.
Well equipped kitchen, facilities were very clean. No mobile coverage and they only had satellite WiFi which was expensive.
T.
Individual showers and bathroom. Nice kitchen, plenty of camping sites and close to amazing trails and the tourist centre.
L.
Outstanding room and view. Restaurant was also quite good which was refreshing as it could have skated by on mediocrity as it the only one for many miles.
S.
Fantastic accommodation. Amazing place..totally enjoyed the winter explore and relax package. Perfect
N.
Amazing experience. Spring for the riverside chalet and you won't regret it. Be sure to book well in advance.
J.
Very beautiful place to stay, the only one close by to Milford sound. Worth the trip. Loved it.
C.
Excellent mountain view accomodation. Just as well because it is the only accomodation. Restaurant is ok, basic meals.
K.
Nice setup in the forrest. Good facilities and the best communal area I have seen on a campsite in New Zealand.

o.
Great romantic place with beautifull cabins with gorgeous view to the mountains. Just loved it.
P.
Incredible location, especially in the pricy Riverside lodge. But service is very unorganized, something you wouldn't expect in this price range.
W.
Stayed in a camper van spot and enjoyed it. Very nice facilities.
H.
Reasonable price, kind staff, great location close to the information centre where you can (should) book the cruise and tours.

s.
Hotel was really good, staff helped me and my friends in emergency. Big thanks
l.
Gorgeous scenery and rooms, good food, small selection, high prices, nice stuff
A.
Due to the remoteness of this place and the fact that it is the only available accommodation around, I expected it to be a rip off. I also expected mediocre service. I was wrong!
