Food is as everyone said, superb. I ordered steak and it packed with flavors not to mentioned a large portion of fries. Tasted my friend's order as well, fish n chip and seafood chowder. The fish is fresh while the seafood chowder is just slightly pale in comparison with the two. Slightly normal.Environment wise its really nice as well, a good place to chill.

My first time trying crayfish and they did not disappoint me, it was delicious! Very friendly staff, thank you :)

Lovely little pub that serves excellent Guinness!!! Very cosy with a rustic feel about the place. Does live music which adds to great atmosphere. Open fire which adds to a great bar. Food is good, mostly fish but good quality and very tasty. The menu choice could be a little better but what you do get is very good

We have dropped in here before, vowed to return, and here we are again. Such a great spot to chill out with great staff. Fish and chips were plentiful. Chips were beer battered if I’m guessing. Local beer on tap too which was quality.

Great little spot right on the main street. Ordered drinks from the I side bar and sat outside in their beer garden since it was a beautiful day. Service was nice and friendly from all staff. Good menu and the food came quick and hot. Would definitely go back and recommend if you're visiting Kaikoura.

Had a great night after being referred by our hosts where we were staying. Very friendly service, great atmosphere and the food was awesome! The crispy whole flounder (even though we chose the smaller size) was Huge & delicious, we'll definitely be back :)

My husband and I were walk ins, we were greater warmly and were treated to live outdoor music by a very talented guitarist (Mike I think?). The atmosphere and staff were wonderful. The food was really good, quick service, and nice a hot. Recommended 😚

Nice place - loads of character. The food was good - I had the bacon and egg burger with wedges. Generous portions, and not to pricy. There's Guinness on tap, and a beer garden (although we sat inside). I'd go back 👍

Decent place but v expensive food. 88$ for cray fish (600gm) And wasn’t that much filling either. Certainly not full for one person. Fish cakes 3 pieces for 18$, whole fish (market fish of the day) for 33$, seafood chowder 20$, scallops for 18$. 3 pieces . Expensive food but tasty. Once a visit only. Covid hasn’t changed much for prices in Nz.

Dinner was so nice, fish was so fresh and tasty, Strawberry Tree beer so yummy!! and vibes were so lovely, amazing music and nice people all around :) Will definitely be going back to Strawberry Tree

Seems to have mixed reviews but our Motel host recommended this place so we tried it - very glad that we did. We had an excellent dinner here, ordered the whole Crayfish and the Paua burger. Absolutely delicious, fresh and beautifully cooked. Yummy crispy chips with it too. And don’t forget to try the Naughty Ned’s Hot Choccy - yum! Nice staff who managed to look after us well despite being so busy. Highly recommend this place!

Intrigued already on the street by the morning sun glitter on the back patio we decided to give it a go, and boi I'm glad we did! The staff at the Strawberrytree went above and beyond our expectations of a quick morning coffee and forged a rock solid top notch hospitality experience. Although it was quiet when we visited the food was really good. The service was great, portion size was generous and pricing spot on.

This is such a wonderful eatery! We were searching for crayfish and this was the only restaurant in the area that had crayfish available. The crayfish was very tasty and fresh, and came with chips and salad. There were great vegetarian options available also, and nice drinks. The pub is cozy with a warm fireplace and lovely atmosphere. The staff were very friendly. It was a lovely place to stop.

Mussels, Paua patties were delicious. Loved the atmosphere. However, crayfish wasn't fresh. The flesh was mushy. Service was great though.

Whole Flounder with crispy skin, excellent chips, and good salad. All washed down with local Emporium beers on tap, fecking excellent. Beer garden with good views and fireplace inside.

I've been most of kaikoura restaurants. And I can tell, here is the best one in the town. Fish was always tender and good chewy. Not so fishy. Salad was so fresh and dreshing was yum too. You will never regret your choice.

Strawberry Tree will be visited every time we are in Kaikoura. Loved their out door area, but too cold that day to eat there. The fire was great inside. The food is amazing and all staff were so friendly and awesome at their jobs. Nothing was a bother, when I changed what I wanted to eat with my whitebait, rather than menu choice. My daughter's mussels were yummy and the garlic bread was better than most others I have eaten. Go support this restaurant. 💖

We had a great time in Strawberry Tree. Blue cod with gratin and salad and rib eye steak were absolutely delicious and so was the sweet dessert - almond brownie with vanilla ice cream. The restaurant is really cosy, you can even sit by the fire. There is a wide range of drinks. And staff is friendly. Highly recommended :)

Cool venue; pretty good drinks, not great food. If I were drinking only, 4 stars. Medium does not equal well done. Mesculin salad. Really enjoyed their wedges.

Came in on a whim and so glad I did. Wonderful place, a chill atmosphere with good music. Was recommended the fish of the day by a staff member, was not disappointed. Easily one of the best meals I've had during my road trip round the South Island. Thank you.

The Steak meal and the hot chips was so good we went back the following night. I really loved this place. My wife had lamb shank, and it was perfectly cooked, and tasted amazing. Great staff also.

What a great place, staff and food fantastic, come with an appetite as the meals are very generous servings. Flounder was delicious!!

This is a quaint Irish Pub just at the entrance to town. We loved to fried camembert starter which is a huge delicious portion. Excellent to see sole on the menu which we enjoyed. The crayfish was ok - a little on the dry side. Overall a lovely meal, nice place.

The BEST fish n chips I have had for a long, long time. Unlike some other bars in kaikoura they are not just about exploiting the tourist trade. Live music, great selection of drinks at a more than reasonable price and did I mention the fish n chips.

Wonderful meal, and my compliments to the Chef. Staff were very rushed as we heard they were overwhelmed with the number of customers and not enough staff to cover. Highly recommend the eye fillet steak.

Service excellent & staff really friendly & most probably from every corner of the globe, going by the accents. Wonderful crayfish & by far the best fries I have ever eaten! All washed down with a pint of lovely sheep shagger beer.

Had scallops for entre which were cooked perfectly and lots of them! Jackfruit burger was delicious and my wife had butternut squash which was again totally delicious. Very friendly service, will definitely be back and highly recommend to others.

I've been here a couple of times and it's been good. Nice food and a very cool bar with loads of random things in it. Unfortunately on our recent visit, the bar man seemed to have a bit of an attitude problem and made a fairly rude comment within earshot of us. However the wonderful french staff member there was very apologetic and delt with the situation well when I spoke with her which was much appreciated.

Nice Irish pub, great old stuff decor. Saloon style toilets and a jukebox was cool. Nice big fire was the main drawcard for us on a cold night. Fish of the day and the fish n chips were delicious. Service all good too.

We stopped in here for happy hour found a sunny spot on the patio and enjoyed a few brews! Staff was friendly and prompt. Food menu looked to have many delicious options, but we didn’t have any food during our visit.

Had a local beer and a Paua burger in front of the roaring fire on a cold day. Burger was primo, and served with real wedges. Service was fast and smart..

Great comfort food in front of a glorious fire. Brookfields Merlot for $10 a glass compared to $16 in Queenstown 2 weeks ago. Why wouldn't you give it 5 stars? BTW the muscles in their shells were to die for.

Great spot to stop in for a cocktail! Have a drink inside or outside - great ambiance either way! We didn't eat here so experience rated purely on drink selection and atmosphere.

The fries are seriously amazing here, but the burger was way too small to be worth $23 (it was more like a slider). The outside courtyard has so much potential but it was very awkward to find a table. There were so many tables which either had no chairs or benches at the incorrect height for the table. If the courtyard was done up a little it could be a relaxing and inviting space.

Always have a good night when we visit the Strawberry tree. Now re-opened after the earthquake with new management and a dam good clean it's better than ever. They have good music (often live bands), Very good food, highly recommended.

Great place for live music. Irish Dan and Glen on what I want to call a trumpet. Wow what a live show. Never had a chance to enjoy that kind of musical performance at a pub before. Probably a first and last. Thanks again Irish Dan and Glen... Forgot to mention it was Glen's birthday. What a fantastic night.

The entertainment is 5 star however I didn't like the fact that other people were treated differently, every customer should be treated the same! Not prioritised because you think they are wealthier.

A place full of stories to tell, to hear and to live. If you want to feel like at home with friends just talk to those around and share a great Guinness. You'll have plenty to do while the beer gets poured, which takes time for a good Guinness! Mine was perfect.

02/10/15 – 04/10/2015 Great weekend at the Strawberry Tree. The service from all the staff was great, Very friendly and professional. The food is nothing to shout about better off getting fish & chips from the chippy next door! The band that was on 02/10/2015 was fantastic but, iam afriad the band/bands that were on 03/10/15 were’ nt even half as good. A special thank you to Phee Phee La Quason for her great bar service & making my Guinness extra special! :)

Excelent staff, good food, good fun! I wouldn't want to go elsewhere. Kaikoura is a treasure chest of beauty and art. Strawberry both all wrapped up into one. Good on ya for standing up to deep sea oil drilling too!
