Unfortunately very disappointed. I came there often to eat during holidays 2 years ago while camping and it was better. I don't know if its a new owner but it is now feel different. It's used to be very warm atmosphere, kind of real kiwi pub but with a cozy side, with a fireplace in the middle. Now it is all gone and its feel more cold. Well, the view its still the same but unfortunately I will not go back again.

We spent 4 days here at Hawea hotel. Such beautiful views from our room right on the lake a little expensive in the restaurant but such amazing food and service , the bar is gorgeous lovely outdoor area and live music every Sunday. Beautiful little township amazing people and awesome walks by the lake. Everything you need and only 15 minutes to Wanaka.

10/5! Absolutely fantastic! Awesome staff! Fantastic food! Recommend it for anything from just staying through to events. We got married here and they were incredible, nothing was a problem and they helped us make a really stressful time super easy.

Loved staying here. Perfect for our family of 6 and one of the better priced places. Had a wicked view of Lake Hawea too. 10/10 would recommend 👌

You get what you pay for I guess... that said, our room had hot&cold running water and the lounge had 3 couches, coffee & dining table/chairs, lots of crockery&cutlery, a large screen TV, fridges, oven, microwave with a bbq outside the ablution block - all for $75 for my Wife&I for the night.

As a vegetarian I often fear that the local pub will only have the usual unispiring chips and coleslaw fare. But not the Hawea Pub. Gorgeous vegetarian curry with interesting flavors and textures. Followed by Wanaka lavender flavored creme brulee. Very pleasant surprise!

Stopped here on the way through to Wanaka after being on Lake Hawea. (15%surcharge added; expensive cokes!). Jackie Bristow was the live entertainment and she was amazing!

Although we didnt have a great deal of interaction with staff excluding via Phone we will definately be back here we loved our stay we loved the fact the staff member taking our booking over the phone had the time to chat to me. Tell me all the various things we could do in Hawea. And when we wouldnt make it in time before staff would leave they were able to accomodate a safe transfer of keys so we could get into our room it had been a long long day and to finally walk in to a fresh smelling amazing laid out space for our girls and ourselves it was just so spacious comfortable and 15 mins from wanaka it was a nice wee away from the hustle and bustle of too close to all the busy "township" and super low cost we woke up and spotted rabbits andnthe irony of that is it was our daughters birthday weekend and we had no one to take care of our guinea pigs so they came with us in the car and stayed in the car. My 4 and 2 year old thought it so cute to see a bunny right outside the sliding door 😂 and when we popped the Yes please sign up they topped up the milk, hot chocolate tea, coffee made the beds fresh towels and when we came back from our day out the room smelt lovely again. I absolutely can recommend this place just a stones throw away from the lake front walk down and enjoy the beauty. We will defiantely be coming back and hopefully for longer next time. All staff were hospitable and there were just permanant smiles i loved it "(by the way my husband is a duty manager of a hotel here in Christchurch)" so of course naturally know the way hospo business works and the stress staff are exposed to so really appreciated the great characters of all we met. Extra special moment when our youngest lay down and looked out the opening of the curtain to find the moon above her head ot was just so beautiful.

This spot is the most restful place I have visited. The room looking out to the scenic lake was great. Restaurant had inviting and a joy to eat.

Family of 7 went for lunch. We shared bread and dips for starters, children had their meals and 4 adults shared the slow roasted lamb shoulder. The food was amazing and so was the service. Will go again and definately recommend to other family and friends.

Didn't eat here but the room was clean and well organised and had STUNNING VIEWS

Had dinner with friends. The waitress was brilliant, attentive yet discreet. Asked how meals were and took minor feedback to chef then returned with response. Very professional yet relaxed and welcoming. Food was good portions and tasty. Will definitely return. Summer would be great with garden bar.

The food is fine, but the views are extraordinary. Book the table in the window corner.

The food was exquisite with some great vegetarian options. The front of house staff were really attentive and gave wonderful service. Recommend that you stop in should you need to eat when in Hawea

Catering was good. We were a group of about 65 - 70 people.

We were celebrating mothers day with my wife and her friend. I have to say my Hawea burger and chips was the best I have eaten. My wife ordered mussels and bread she thought it was excellent.

Loved this place. On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly member of staff, who noticed that out booking through a travel booking site seemed to be for a room which would have been a bit snug, so changed our room to better fit us. The place is right on the lake, with amazing views over the lake and the mountainous backdrop, especially during sunset. Good spot for astronomic photography also. The staff were all very friendly, and helpful. The restaurant was also lovely and big, and warm which helped during winter. The room was also a great size. Split level with ability to sleep 6 people with a fold out bed also able to sleep 2 more. It’s only a short drive from Wanaka town centre, but far enough away to relax and be away from the noise. Again, great hearing during winter, and very comfortable and clean.

A great place to eat for sure, sadly the high level of noise led to a miscommunication which ended up having my steak as rare instead of medium rare. But easily over looked when the flavors were all still there. Well seasoned and if I had of requested a rare steak I'd of been very happy. The gratin was more a large hashbrown and needed more in some way with my steak for 32 bucks. But other wise fantastic. My partners king salmon and smoked hoki risotto was to die for. Absolutely perfect. The service was friendly and happy to help, and happy to resolve any issues. Great rates, great food! Only thing I would suggest for the future is separating the bar goers from the restaurant side to keep sound to a minimum. Overall thankful for a great feed with great service!

Absolutely fantastic place. Heater was turned on in room so when i arrived the room was lovely and warm. Friendly staff and the restaurant is really good, really good!!

We were riding the south island for 14 days. Stopped at many restaurants over the two weeks. Lake Hawea Hotel offered lamb shoulder a feed for two people. This was the best meal we had eaten over the two weeks. It enjoyed by all of our group of six. I also enjoyed the beer.

Wonderful location with a beautiful view. The hotel offers private rooms, shared hostel bunks and campervans sites. There's a communal laundry room, kitchen wash station, grill, hot showers and toilets. The restaurant and bar are lovely, the menu is extensive, and the patio views are hard to beat.

Great spot overlooking the lake. The rooms are modern and clean, all with fantastic views of the lake. Nice and warm and well appointed. The restaurant is really good as well, have been here numerous times as we now live in Hawea. Breakfast looked a little standard but wasn't there for the breaky, the dinner menu is much better and great for kids. Great beer and wine selection too.

This is probably the first review I have ever bothered to write but I felt it was more than warranted. End of August 2018 we descended on Lake Hawea Hotel for our daughters wedding. It was absolutely perfect. The accommodation was very good with stunning views. The staff were very helpful for the whole 3 days that 20 of us stayed for. Two of the wedding guests were wheelchair bound but that wasn’t a problem. The food was very good and in particular for the wedding. There was more than enough, we’ll presented and served with a smile! Thankyou to all the staff for helping to make the weekend one of the best we have ever had. Everyone was of the same mind.

Amazing scenery, great service and fantastic food

Two of us stayed here in December for two nights. The staff and personnel were excellent. They showed us southern hospitality and friendliness. Couldn't have been more helpful, even to providing an extra chair in the room because two "oldies" each needed a comfy chair. The rooms were nicely appointed. The beds were very comfortable indeed, even if it was an adventure for a short "oldie" to scale the heights to get into it. The mattresses were very thick, on a high base. The bathroom with a walk-in shower was excellent for an "oldie" with mobility difficulties too.The scenery was marvellous and many photos were taken. Food was of a very good standard and we enjoyed each meal we had there. We definitely would recommend this place.

We've stayed in the hotel as a group of 5 while traveling in NZ, and this was one of the nicest places on the trip. Awesome lake-side views, with the mountains in the background. The room seemed to be either new or recently renovated. Can't really say anything bad about the place. Very helpful and nice staff!

A gem in Wanaka area. The split level room is big enough for a family of 5 if desired. Everyone gets a view of the majestic Lake Hawea without any strings attached. The water pressure in the shower is good and the beds are super clean and comfy. Cannot ask for more. This is a great accommodation option without the tourist price tag in Wanaka.

Quite old facility for the backpacker side but still great and comfortable. The stove take bit longer to cook and the heater not that warm when low temperature. Nice and clean room. You can see the Lake Hawea if you walking around.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We upgraded when we got there, which was really nice. The beds were very comfortable and coming from Aussie I was worried about being cold,but it was anything but. The rooms were really cosy and as was the restaurant. So lovely sitting in front of the fire having a drink. The food was lovely too. Would I stay ahain? Absolutely

We stayed for two nights here while visiting some of the spots around Wanaka. We booked a townhouse which had amazing and .uninterrupted views of lake Hawea. The rooms and bathroom were clean and spacious. The only thing is that the place is away from the Wanaka town centre. Personally I found the place very romantic.

Beautiful location but the main rooms in the hotel suffer from old carpet and a stale smell in the bathrooms. Probably something wrong with the plumbing. The view from the balcony makes up for it though. The attached restaurant was excellent though. The chicken curry was excellent and the desert was good too (affogato) . The room carpets likely need to be redone and bathroom plumbing improved for it to be better rated . Beds were comfortable and rooms were huge though

Booked a campervan accommodation and got upgraded to a room for free. The room has some magnificent view of the lake. Room is clean, spacious, and comfy. Definitely worth the money you spent. The lounge and dining room looks inviting, would like to chill there but too bad we were too exhausted when we arrived that night so we slept through the night and missed the opportunity.

LOVED IT! went on a trip with my family to New Zealand and staying throughout the south Island and this place was a highlight! coming from the Gold Coast, Australia its completely different anything here. The place was quiet which is nice but the views were second to none! honestly could of laid on the bed all day and just admire it. The only downside being that i only spent a single night, next year we will definitely stay longer!!

Excellent place to make home for however long you need. So close to local shops. Very clean and comfortable. The room is equipped with everything you'll need. Management are welcoming, helpful and pleasant to deal with. I will make a point of staying here (but for longer than just a couple of nights), next time we visit NZ.

Good quality food, with a wide range of tap beer

Pros - bed was comfortable, showers were good and clean. Amazing view of the lake Cons - was stuffy and hot at night, had a lot of insects so we couldnt open the window for the wind. Only got cold later at night after we opened the window but had to deal with insects. Could consider putting in insect nets.

Its was an okay meal, it wasn't great neither was it bad, the food was well cooked but lacked inspiration. The pizza was slightly underdone, the pasta could of used more seasoning, curry was a good vegetarian option, the cheese risotto balls seemed to lack a lot of the cheese. Menu is quite small but have a large simple pizza range. They could use some kiwi country pub staples on the menu wouldn't hurt either. One thing is the view from the restaurant is exceptional and would find it hard to beat anywhere else in the world. I go back again to order a beer and basket to chips just to sit and admire the view.

Stunning views over Lake Hawea, spacious rooms and a 15 minute drive from Wanaka. A basic breakfast buffet is available for NZD 16.50, with filter coffee, bread, cheese, meats and a few pastries. We did not try the restaurant or the bar menu. All rooms have been refurbished in 2011 and will need a new refurbishing within a few years. Wifi is free, but unstable.

There is a Hotel and there's a Hostel, so be aware of that. Very nice staff, discounts at the bar if you are staying in a hostel as we did, amazing view over the lake. The price.. the cheapest place I stayed in NZ. Kitchen and bathroom are a mess though! I literally felt dirty getting out of the shower. Kitchen needs some management. I know It is up to the backpackers to clean after themselves, but it is not encouraged like in the other places.

Love our stay here, look old from the outside, but actually clean room and nice interior. A bit cold at night time for us asian, but they provide heating blanket for each bed. Breathtaking view!

I stayed here in my campervan and found the staff, facilities and atmosphere to be really nice. The showers lacked pressure but were hot, though I think the overall facility could do with an upgrade. Would definitely stay again if I was in the area!

The manager was really nice but the rooms are really small, 4 people with their 70L backpacks is a bit too much, especially since the backpacks can't be put under the bed. The Kitchen doesn't have a microwave, and it's really small, better Cook before everyone or after otherwise people are walking on each other, no space for your dry food and only one fridge. But because everything is small, we are allowed to sit in the lounge of the hotel, and we have prices at the hotel restaurant. The bathroom are located outside, and it's really cold in there, no insulation. The view is gorgeous though, Lake hawea is amazing, so if your room is facing the lake (I reckon odd numbers) then it makes up for everything!

The night was cold and to our surprise? There were electric blankets! Lifesavers! Service was amazingly friendly, food was even better and dessert was just melt in your mouth out of the world stuff! Views from our room - breathtaking! Important stuff - beer was cheap and good and WiFi strong! Thank you!

Lovely setting. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. We had to wait for quite a while before we were attended to after arriving. We hadn't booked so this was possibly the reason. Food was fine but nothing extraordinary.

Really nice resaurant and pub. Wood fires and different deals on each day of the week for food. Often have the rugby on / whichever sporting event is real time. Pool table and outdoor seating available with heaters. Nice staff and awsome mulled wine for winter!

Rooms are tired and in need of a reno especially carpets. Bathrooms were very clean and tidy. Otherwise it was ok for a 1 night stay.

Posh hotel but you can’t fault the wine list and food. Staff were attentive, polite and efficient. Food was really good and the drinks menu equally varied and effective. Great place for a nice drink or a special meal out.

All good at this stop. Great food, nice accommodations and the views are spectacular. I suggest getting a room with lake views as it makes for a wonderful morning watching the seemingly alive mountains change as the sun light plays over the landscape.

There's only one stove with four hobs on it, for the entire hall of travelers. This unfortunately cause a lot of wait time. This place was great though, the rooms were neat and clean, the beds comfortable. The bathroom is okay, showerstalls splash into the toilet stalls unfortunately.

This review is about the restaurant rather than lodging. It is a great place for a generous meal and great service. Highly recommend for a good range of food, well prepared, good value and excellent service. The sticky date pudding is worth the visit in itself.

The fish and chips was pricey enough so was expecting a couple of good size fish. I was very disappointed. The burger the wife had looked really good. Just a pitty it wasn't. Now the dog........ well it just stood there and watched us eat..... most off putting.

Lovely evening in a great setting. The lamb shoulder we shared was magnificent. The meat was truly succulent and the quantity was huge. Lovely potatoes and vegetables. It was a real winner with us.

Nice food and bar, and the rooms are very clean and nice. For the price can't ask for anything more. The location is great - looks at the lake and across to snow capped mountains. You can ask for a room with a view.

Toilets and showers okay but could do with a bit of maintenance and a clean. Good in the pub was good. You get a deal if you're camping there, but it's a separate menu

Very nice place, good stuff and deluxe accomodation. Also, when you ask to extend to an extra night, reception says it's full. Check out and give keys at reception later that day and you here next to you accomodations still available... Weird.

Friendly Staff, because we were in a camper we can't comment on rooms. Restaurant was great. Big fireplace and incredibly accommodating to children and toddlers.

The hostel is really handy and cheaper than anything you will find in Wanaka. Great shower, beautiful view on the lake Hawea perfect spot if you are heading on the West Coast

Nice place with a beautiful view of Lake Havea. Our bunk beds weren't designed well... No ladder to climb to the top bunk and you'll hit your head in the lower bunk. Slow Wi-Fi. Stay is comfortable, kitchen is well equipped. Bicycle rentals are available at $15 an hour. Cycling by the lake Havea is a must..!

The Lamb they cook there is out of this world! The stuff is very friendly, the location is great. We are delighted to come back to you guys. Keep it up!

We stayed in the hostel. It was quiet loud as the walls were quiet thin. The rooms were immaculate inside and the basics were met! The views were breathtaking too!

Nice view of lake Hawea Stayed at their hostel - small cosy room. Clean bedroom but very stuffy and tiny kitchen/lounge, clearly not enough for all the guests.

Ok, so four of us went last night, Easter Saturday, booked in for 7 and seated at 7, drinks brought promptly and then.... nothing for an hour. One starter came out, the other three of us were having a bread to share, which the waitress forgot to order. The food came later still, the lamb wasn't available so three of us had steak, and one the seafood blackboard special. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce was beautiful. The down-sides, the potato rosti was more of a potato cake and sure wasn't crispy and we got one bowl of very, very undercooked vegetables between the three of us. (The sprouts were still screaming). I know they were busy, but disappointing to say the least, next time it'll be a bar meal for half the price next door. :(

Had dinner in the front bar area. Steak, chicken burger, kids bolognese, kids pizza. All high quality and well priced. Also good selection of flavourful beers on tap.

Stayed one night at the campground of hawea hotel. Was not bad but it was very packed and you only got a old but very hot shower and a not working wifi for your price. But you also get specials at the bar as a camper the beer is cheep but not the food.

Good place to park the RV/Motorhome for a couple of days prior to the Warbirds over Wanaka show over Easter. Had showers and toilets but the place is very busy so often there are queues. Quite a windy spot.

Attended a lovely wedding there. Basic rooms with basic facilities but the view is out of this world. Lake Hawea is a beautiful place to visit.

We rented a beautiful spacious chalet by the lake with 2 bedrooms and open space kitchen/living room. I would highly recommend this place.

Stayed here two nights and was totally blown away by the views on offer. This will definitely be my first choice when it comes to Wanaka accommodation in the future. Awesome friendly service too!

Stayed there in 2012 on our honeymoon. Beautiful hotel, great rooms, great food, great Tawny Port. This was four years ago on our honeymoon and now we have a three-year old...you do the math.

We had the best lunch ever at this restaurant. I had a steak sandwich which is amazing. Love. Love. Love. Will be back

Lovely staff. There's an attached bar, restaurant, and bottle shop. Great prices and towels/unlimited internet access make this my favorite stop so far.

Dann kam das Essen und die Getränke recht flott allerdings mit dreckigem Besteck. Es war noch Lauch oder ähnliches vom Vorgänger dran. Der Blick auf dem See hat aber entschädigt :) und hat uns die Wartezeit genießen lassen.
