R.We ordered takeaway from The Thai and I can highly recommend ir to anyone who likes Thai food. Staff are super friendly and the food is fantastic. We ordered a variety of dishes and all of them were delicious. The flavours and aroma just made it easy to dish up more and more. For a small coastal town it sure has a top Thai restaurant. Definitely spoil yourself with a visit to dine in or take out as you will not be disappointed.
C.Good food but sadly our service was far from acceptable, I believe because we ordered the banquet it was delayed some how. The manager was good about resolving the situation so thanks for that.
The team there were working really hard but simply could not keep up with keeping water and drinks flowing on our table let alone the food. I would go back though and hope to get better service.
R.Our first visit as it's quite a long drive for us but well worth the effort. Absolutely delicious food and lovely service. Be sure to book a table. We didn't think it would be necessary on a Thursday but fortunately we did - for early dinner at 5.30. By 6pm it was getting very full. People arriving all the time to collect takeaway orders too. So I think this speaks volumes about how good the food is. Just wish they opened for lunch as we'd be more regular visitors, however, we'll definitely return and, from our experience, can thoroughly recommend this restaurant
N.Pad kra pao is my benchmark Thai dish. This was as good as any I've had. I asked for Thai hot and was warned that the chillies they have can be a little variable and really hot so I had some extras on the side. They definitely packed a punch, so I recommend this approach even if you like it as hot as I do.
Yummy earthy tones and crunchy fresh vegetables. I chose squid, which was meltingly tender. This was our third visit over something like seven years and we weren't disappointed. Not long finished dinner and I'm already salivating about our next time.
J.Honestly... the best Thai we have had in NZ. We wish there was something this good in Auckland, it would be a weekly visit.
All the seafood dishes were fresh, soft and full of flavour. The duck was phenomenal. The beef was soft and grill of flavour. The Tom Yum was one of the best we have had, we just wish we got the ‘bloody hot’.
If you like hot food, go for ‘bloody hot’.
Come open up a restaurant in Auckland please! And show them how Thai food should be.

C.Wonderful dine in meal at The Thai Mangonui. We have eaten a lot of Thai food in NZ and Thailand and this was superb. Dishes were crammed full of tasty ingredients, selection was imaginative and servings were generous.Staff were gracious and friendly, nice wine selection great service despite being very busy. Best food ! Have to go back to try all the other yummy dishes we couldn’t fit in. Thank you Emily and Tony

l.We are visiting Mangonui and dined tonight at The Thai resturant. Six of us left with compliments of the meals served which were extremely flavorsome and authentic Thai. Ignore the review saying that the resturant only accepts cash. That is fake as resturant accepts credit cards and EFPOS. Thanks for a great evening.

g.This is possibly the best Thai Restaurant I've been to this side of Thailand. We had the mixed Appetizers, Yum Talay, sweet piglet. Som tum sticky rice and my fav thai sauce Num pla pik. Wow I love spicy spicy.

D.Very good service and decor. Food is good. Takeaway rice is tiny, they shouldn't skimp on the rice as only needs 10 cents more to make it a meal. Otherwise I recommend.
A.Decent Thai food with a splendid view. I ordered the Thai noodles with fish fillets which was really tasty. A good portion size and plenty of fish. The service was inconsistent, some staff seemed a little more enthusiastic than others. There was also quite a wait for food, however the restaurant was very busy. Despite the price being a little high, they have a nice selection in the menu and used fresh ingredients so would definitely be interested in returning to try some other items.
Y.Staff were fantastic, friendly and attentive. Not my favorite Thai eating experience however. I like a bit more zing. The fried rice was very good and pork belly. Someone at our table had Pad Thai, I wasn't impressed. It wasn't very authentic, more like a Malaysian curry noodle dish. Great value portions.

A.If you are in Mangonui or the surrounding area please don't miss this restaurant and takeaway. We went for dinner with our son and grandchildren. The service is great. Very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. The mokopuna ate so much food and kept saying how nice it was. The restaurant was getting busy with diners and takeaway but the staff had it under control. Very impressed and hope to return again
S.The enteees and mains were great and came out in good time. Need to be more attentive with their patrons, in that we weren't offered additional drinks or dessert and therefore they lost sales. No ambience, as poor acoustics in the building. Found it very difficult to have a conversation due to the noise.

A.We got here on a Saturday night in winter, and it was full - and for good reason. The food is delicious, and has a great balance of flavours and ingredients. Vegetables in the dishes are fresh and crunchy. Pristine bathrooms. The service was outstanding, not only quick but efficient. Great experience, clean premise and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

J.Delicious Thai food. We ordered over the phone and picked it up in 20 minutes. Good sized servings with lots of meat. We were told to make a booking if we wanted to dine in as they were popular. Such a good recommendation in this post-Covid climate.

L.While the food was good the service did lack. They don't answer the phone for takeaway orders and you get the impression you are a bit of an inconvenience when you go in and place one. Then when told to collect later you are directed to seat around a corner on some coaches to wait wait for it as it's not ready. It then left sitting there. They don't let you know it's ready. A real shame.
O.Probably the best Thai I’ve ever had in NZ. Great flavours and great service from the lovely staff.

M.Food here is really good and its a popular restaurant; knowing this I made a phone booking but was told my reservation was given to a walk-in despite requesting 7pm on the phone booking machine. Also, they forgot my husbands main meal which was all a shame as it was our 33rd anniversary dinner. Very busy and staff friendly.
P.Outstanding service, delightfulll staff that are so busy but always smiling and humble. Food is of the best standard, an enjoyable dinner that's for sure and excellent value
L.SO FRIENDLY, great tasty yummy food, very friendly staff, very accommodating, walk ins welcome, food is quick when not busy, we were there Tuesday night and they were pumping busy, staff apologetic but we said we were happy to wait, drinks and starters were recommended & done quick to start with. Will go back for sure;)
A.The Thai gets 5 out of 5 because:
1- Even though I had not booked, they accommodated me given that they were fully booked;
2- The food is authentic, perhaps the best Thai food I have ever had;
3- Amazing views over Manganui harbour;
4- Staff members are so polite and respectful, specially Emily who I interacted with (I think she is the owner). She apologised for the long waiting time;
I will definitely try this restaurant if I ever be around Manganui again.
Don’t forget to book a table before you turn up.
L.Fantastic. We didn't realise you should really book because they're so popular and busy. But a table was made for us. Service was great and the food was delicious.
T.We have been going to this Thai for the past 13 years. Last couple of times we have gone with 10 and 12 people with couple of kids. We have been put in the same place both times. The food is normally great and we look forward to it coming up from Auckland. We waited on Saturday night for 45 minutes to be ask for drinks and yes it was busy but 1 waiters is not good. Next it took another one hour for the entrees then another 20 minutes for mains. We watch most of this entire evening and it was all about serving takeaways. To be honest kids getting grumpy adults say this is just a joke. And it was not Covid when we went last time with a large group. Everybody so far as staff are actually just running around. So get more staff . It still won’t stop us from going. We would go at least 6 maybe 7 to 8 times a year. So please respect us when next up would be appreciated you know who we are. We are your bread and butter who pays your bills please.
G.Best Thai food outside Thailand! Super delicious and extremely friendly hostess. They were super booked out but she was so friendly and lovely to our family and took the time to chat with us. Only downside is they don’t have a branch in whangarei!

Sadly chicken Pad ga Prao was very fishy, very smelly bamboo shoots spoiled the dish.

K.Possibly my favourite Thai Restaurant and always try to go there when I visit the beautiful Far North, sadly I have tried repeatedly to call for takeaways the last two visits and it always seems to go to answer phone! Would be great if they could address this somehow??
J.Every time I go here, I've forgotten how good it is. Easily the best Thai I've had in NZ. Far better than any Thai I've had in Auckland. So delicious!

P.I come here every time I'm in the area. The range is amazing, and everything I have tried so far rates 5+. The staff are amazing and accommodating, and if you have a gluten allergy, the range of gf options are great, you'll be able to find something that suits your taste. Look forward to going again tonight😉. Will probably post some pictures of the menu if I can figure out how

Always on the lookout for the genuine taste, most of the time we leave disappointed and wish I had cooked it myself, not tonight though. I have a love for thai food after eating here. Everything we ordered both nights was so delicious! Even cater for gluten free. Thank you so much for the best place to eat while we were on holiday! A.Not realizing The Thai in Mangonui is a very popular place to dine. We called in for a meal after 6pm to be told the restaurant was practically fully booked. The waiting staff said they had a table around the back that we could have as long as we were finished within an hour. We took on the challenge as we already knew what we wanted. Staff were quick and efficient and our meals were devine.
C.Amazing Food!! Great atmosphere
S.Food was first class, service is non existant. We felt like we were not wanted tonight by our waitress, she was suprised when we ordered a bottle of wine rather than glasses of wine, 2 out of 5 main courses were wrong and it took a long time to get served. Prices were a tad high. Will we go back, a big maybe as we are locals and there are not many restaurants in the area. A pity because other times, everything has been great. Only the quality of the food saved the night, even the wrong dishes were good.

N.The food was very good and overall, the service was fine. They don’t advertise the time they close (the website says ‘til late and they show 11pm on Google). We arrived at 9pm after a long day and they rushed us through the meal because they were trying to close.

L.I've been there a couple of times, but seemed fine. I would really recommend the desserts, especially the deep fried maple syrup banana on vanilla ice cream. Quite nice!
For the main dishes, most of them have a hotness scale, from mild, medium and then hot. I also recommend the Sexy Duck dish. It was one of the specials that they had that evening and it did not disappoint! From what I can remember, it came with some vegetables like brocolli and carrots. It also had mushrooms and some black sauce that actually tasted nice and smelled good! My taste buds would like to also recommend the fried rice dishes with crispy pork, and all red,yellow and green curries!
I really wasn't empressed with the banquets, but perhaps that's just an unfamiliarity issue. You really have to be prepared to try something new!
Don't let the fancy names of the dishes put you off your dinner! Staff is nice, although it would be good if they refilled water glasses regularly for you. There is also a lady there who doesn't smile most of the time and half of the time is super nice, the other half, a grump. It has a nice view of the bay as well! Although you wont be able to see it at night. Utensils look clean, but they are also a bit fragile (my sister broke a spoon before...) so be careful not to bend them or in anyway use them in a way they're not meant to be used!
