Wow what a fantastic lunch at Apple shed, when we are in Marpua we always usually have lunch at jelly fish but not any more, we love eating out and this lunch was up there, had the fresh Snapper which had this amazing sauce and crispy skin, added to that we had chips on the side and this amazing slaw salad with almonds. I never normally have desert but all 3 of us did and so glad, it was the mouse and it was delectable as was the crumble which I tried. Service was fantastic surroundings sublime and this will be my new go to Restaurant when visiting the area Thanks for a great experience I would give you more than 5 stars I could not fault anything.

Staff very attentive but the two we dealt with were both not English language as their main language. Hard to understand with the surrounding noise. The surrounding was great with the children jumping off the wharf. A great place to have a meal out with friends. The fish dish was fantastic with the odd spices to give it the great flavour most enjoyable experience.

Booking was pretty easy and the staff were friendly. When we had dinner at this place, it was a Tuesday evening and it took us forever for our food to be served. There were 5 of us. There were only 3 tables of 4-6 people dining but the kitchen was slow with the food service. Another thing to consider is visiting this place when you can still see the wharf as I reckon that this is the selling point of this place. Food was average, serving is in small portions but prices are $$. I love that their toilets are clean and smelling fresh!! Wine list was also average. Ambience is 5-star but the speed of service was a let-down 😔

Heavily overpriced place focused on looks rather than customer's satisfaction. "no order changing policy" means that if you don't like any part of a dish they won't swap it. You will have to leave it to waste... as if there wasn't enough wasted food in the world.

Awesome friendly and knowledgeable staff. Lamb special was great. Well presented food. VERY fussy husband says he has had better pork belly. Chocolate mousse was so good husband wanted to lick the plate. Butterscotch affrogato was truly sublime. View from windows over inlet was unbeatable. We will be back.

A recent turn around and a fresh menu has given this seaside establishment a great kick. The staff from the start were pleasant, informative and chatty. Even offering wine tasting! Good menu options offering local seafoods but not to many that you become overwhelmed. Hot chips and aioli are always a favourite. Gnocchi was lovely as was for the chicken and seafood soup. Soup could have been a little hotter. The garlic bread accompanied was delicious with a generous lathering of both garlic and butter. The surrounding are great for both dining in and outdoors. Desirable tables are located indoors by the windows above the water inlet. Plenty of parking however I suspect over the busy summer season this could change. Overall, reasonably priced delicious food served with smile. Keep it up!

Great dinner and service! All the dishes were delicious and well presented complemented with excellent service. Well done with the clear and well thought out vegan options. Will definitely be back next time in Mapua.

The views are absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately the mussles were over cooked and mussel flavour lost by the sauces added. The vegetarian meal was tasteless. Service good. We got given wrong drinks twice which were sent back then appeared on bill. Which were taken off before paying. Very dissapointed and strongly recommend you look at your bill carefully and out of our meals steak was great and smokefish small meal was fine in our opinion. Would go back but trying something else.

We shared entries and each one was delicious, then the mains came out and they were even better - just done to accentuate their flavours perfectly. Of course, we couldn't resist desert which was a step too far for me and I had to finish all of my chocolate moose. Left feeling thoroughly sated and not in need of any more food for at least a week. Staff were attentive and helpful and overall atmosphere was very conducive to having easy conversations.

Food was amazing at the apple shed! Complements to the kitchen staff and chief... However one of the front of house staff members made us feel not welcome, was rude in her manner and inhospitable. We heard her using offensive language to her fellow staff.. Witch did not create a warm or comfortable atmosphere as a customer... Really nice place, amazing food but due to this individual we well not return..

Wow what a find! When everything was either closing or closed mid week, Apple Shed were coming alive. Wandered into Mapua and managed to secure a table here on New Year’s Eve. It’s got such a great vibe and the service was perfect! We ordered a lot (the menu was too good not too!) so it was hard to pick a highlight but everything was so well thought out and complimented each other perfectly. Our waitress (she was from Argentina - didn’t catch her name sorry!) was so attentive and really made the whole dining experience top notch as often this can be where a lot of places fall short. Absolutely 5* and could not recommend enough - whatever you are doing guys keep on doing it!

A great place to enjoy lunch by the water. The food was great and the wait wasnt long. The portions are decent size and the waitress was super friendly.

Had a lovely evening, a delicious meal and wine, waited on by really friendly staff. Only downside was on going to pay, we hadn't finished our bottle of wine which we wanted to take back to our accommodation, only to be told by the person at the till that we could not take it with us as they only had an "on" license not an "off" license. We both felt this was somewhat petty as we were going walk 5 minutes up the road, we were the last to leave and there was absolutely no one else around. To be sticking so rigidly to the alleged rules was a bit much.... We're both over sixty and not really going to be going to cause a riot in sleepy Mapua! Lesson..... If you buy a bottle of wine with a decent mark up at the Apple Shed, down it all before you leave!! No sour grapes, just a cautionary tale. Otherwise great 😁😁

Beautiful location, good service and we enjoyed the apple cider they had on tap! However we felt the food was a bit underwhelming for the price of fine dining. We had the sourdough bread with humus, the kingfish ceviche and the pork belly. The bread and humus were both very tasty. The ceviche had good flavour but lacked finesse - the fish and salad were chopped into very random sized pieces, like someone had just done a rough chop - some tiny and some huge. The pork belly was the main disappointment as it was quite dry and extremely salty which made it difficult to enjoy. It was served with roast potatoes that tasted like they had been reheated after being cooked a couple of days ago. For 30 something dollars the pork was definitely the most disappointing. However if the chef made some minor changes the menu could probably improve enough to make this an excellent establishment.

Nice place for lunch. Good views and tasty food. Good for groups and for a special treat. The desert was a work of art and palate approved. Parking needs to be a little bit away as the whole wharf area at Mapua is busy with shops and restaurants. So when you drive in best to parlay the first ace yousee as it is not easy to turn around. Booking ahead can be helpful and helps get you a table with a view. It is a lovely view even in the rain.

After 2 weeks of holidaying in NZ I can honestly say we had the best meal so far in The Apple Shed. Delicious fish soup. Followed by a perfectly fried local white fish I forgot the name of. The Chardonnay (wine of the week) was one of the best I ever tasted. Well balanced with not too much oak. Staff was very friendly and attentive.

My friend and I went for dinner on Monday night while staying in Mapua. We came across the Apple Shed on our walk down to the Mapua Wharf and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is beautifully furnished with a nice atmosphere and great views over the water (in high tide). Waitresses were also really friendly and helpful and let us try both types of Pinot Gris before deciding which one we liked best. The food was the standout of the night though. We were blown away at how amazing it was. I don’t usually order vegetarian dishes but the cauliflower risotto appealed from the menu and was absolutely delicious. Then we had the chocolate mousse with coffee ice cream, pear purée and salted caramel popcorn. This was also delicious. Both meals beautifully presented and combination of flavours of both dishes worked perfectly together. Meal sizes were perfect for us too, as they allowed room for dessert without being too full. The best food we’ve had since being in New Zealand so far. If this restaurant was in Melbourne I would say the Apple Shed was worthy of a Chef’s Hat!

Hat tip. Value for money? I even had some sir Edmond's left over. Constructive Feedback? The tip option that comes up when you pay on eftpos. I feel it is a little to soon for that NZ. Comming back? Definitely.

A lovely modern restaurant set on the edge of the inlet. The staff were friendly and the servive was efficient and relaxed. We both had the snapper which was beautifully cooked and served on a bed of cucumber which was novel. A very enjoyable evening out.
