Reviews of The Grill at Solway Park

Outstanding sweet and savoury tiered plates: sausage rolls, small pies, meringues, scones with jam and cream, lovely tasty club sandwiches. Compliments to the chef. It was a bit of a pity that we always had to look for the waitress. The eats were stylishly delivered because they were pre-ordered but then we had to find a waitress to order tea and coffee. Then one (beautiful) small pot of tea was delivered for 6 people. No milk, we had to ask. We had to ask for extra hot water. Each time there was a short wait, which made our drinks cold before they were ready to drink. Lovely quiet surrounding. It was a good experience with a little room for refining. The tasty food and pleasant company made it worth continuing the annual ritual.

Ordered the butchers sandwich with a side of their yummy homemade onion rings. It was very delicious. The meat was really tender and shredded well for easy eating and the mustard sauce went great with the flavours.

Heard good things about the experience at The Grill. Sadly left underwhelmed by the fare offered. Ordered seared scallops to start and while tasty, the size was miniscule. 4 scallops and 3 pieces of chorizo sausage.
Sirloin steak, baked potato and garden vegetables for mains. 2 carrots and 2 florets of broccoli, luke warm and bland. Steak was ordered blue to rare but arrived medium rare.
Suffice to say was left feeling hungry despite the offering.
Would like to say that it was worthwhile but feel improvement could be made. Considering the status that the Copthorne has, sadly I won't return and hesitate to recommend

Nice dinner. Not many veggie options. Wine list is extensive. Not busy on Friday early evening. Staff are friendly and helpful

Just a bit disappointed this time around. The menu has been reduced quite significantly and the portion sizes have followed suit, but not by quite so much. The food was still good, and the atmosphere is still congusive to a relaxed and enjoyable meal with friends where one can talk quietly and be easily heard, but...

Delicious cocktails, super attentive and friendly waitstaff! Shared the aranchini, pork belly and the yummy soba noodle salad - we loved every bite! The chefs were working hard for a super busy seating and they did an amazing job. We shared the Pannacotta for dessert and it disappeared so quickly, we were amaze. All in all an amazing night :-)

Just had lunch here and am blown away by the food and service we received! The food was delicious and fresh! The staff were friendly and cheerful. Thanks so much for a great feed! We will be back for sure!

Our Christmas lunch was absolutely appalling and we said we would never return. However, we had had 4 good HiTeas last year, so ventured back and we were more than satisfied. The food was great and the service excellent. Caitlin? our server was delightful and nothing was too much trouble. We sent our compliments to the chef.
Will definitely be returning and would highly recommend the HiTea.

Food was good. Service friendly. Would have liked to have more soft drinks and milkshakes on the menu

So nice to go to a restaurant rather than cafe/ bistro. Really enjoyed the restaurant feel and some great food. Salmon was full of flavour,, succulent and cooked to perfection. Thanks to Kesha, our designated waitress, Service added to the experience, attentive, polite and friendly yet not in your face, A great dinner and evening had by all.

Nice place, good food, it felt little understaffed but it was New Years Day 2022 when i went

Super yummy meals! We had the scotch fillet and lamb rack. Both extremely tasty and worth the price. Service was very friendly. Our waitress Keisha was nice and knew her stuff!

Service was a bit slow. Pasta of the day was delicious but chipped my tooth (walnut brittle).

Pros, great service. Our waitress was lovely and attentive.
Cons, food and price. We ordered the Onigiri and it wasn't made with sushi rice and was made with soggy wet white rice, no nori or flavour. We also ordered the Grilled Vegetable Stack. This was okay; the vegetables were cooked well but the price was ridiculous for this dish. It didn't include any protein to round out this dish, crispy chickpeas, humus. Anything would help this dish, left us feeling unsatisfied.
Overall better places to dine in Masterton, wouldn't recommend.

Cruised in on a Friday night this is a place to sit be waited on by absolutely awsome friendly staff surrounded by warm inviting decor private enough to enjoy your company without feeling like your crammed in to packed spaces exploding with people.

Unfortunately not the best experience. Had to send the garlic bread back as stale and not toasted. Small bottle of water cost $9.50 - a bit exorbitant. Had to remind them about our drinks. Main meal was nice though.

Having to drive all the way from Martinburough @ 8pm (as no where was open to accommodate 4 people for dinner "we went to every restaurant including in Grey Town"), The Grill was the only place to say they will accommodate us arriving at 8:30pm and with a smile we had a fantastic meal, superb prawns starters! Loved it, Thank You 😊

Great food, good ingredients, awesome flavours and reasonable value.
Highly recommend the creme brulee.
Not super sophisticated fine dining but definitely excellent that one have to write a good review.

We dined Saturday 3 October 2020. The food was delicious but the service was terribly slow and the wait staff only excused it for being a busy night (we noted empty tables so wasn't a full house). Took 1hr for my husband and I to get main and our steaks were on wrong plate. A further 15mins for our childrens' meals to arrive. 1hr for water to come to table. 30mins for a glass of cider to arrive to table after us having to walk up to front desk to ask for a second drink. A further 30mins after our main plates were cleared for our childrens' desserts to arrive (ordered from outset as part of children's menu). We weren't impressed unfortunately.

Just enjoyed a scrumptious lunch meal at The Grill - fantastic service and a friendly waitress. The lunch time prices are very reasonable and tasty. High recommend you try this lovely "Grill"

Firstly, the flavors of the food was fantastic. However, the thick cut fries and seasonal vegetables had little to no seasoning, the savior of the dish was the mushroom sauce which was divine. A similar issue with the Turkish Delight Panna Cotta - great flavours but the panna cotta itself was quite lumpy instead of being smooth. The service was prompt, so no complaints there.
I would not recommend their breakfast though. Quite expensive for not a lot of options.
That said, I would still return to try other options on the menu, I can only find minor negatives, doing else was well done (except the meat - that was medium rare!)

The elder lady of the two at the front of house desk was rude and dismissive of a lot of the customers as well as my daughter who was trying to get a bottle of water. The food in the adults menu was very nice and cooked very well. The children's menu.....well... If you were part of the Trump administration providing food for the children of asylum seekers then you might be happy but for anyone who cares for children it is a disgrace. The food consisted of fries, over cooked meat patties, greasy fish bites, salad that is at least 2 days old and stale bread that ducks would struggle to eat. I would not take my children back there.

We came for a romantic Valentines dinner but turned out a nightmare. When we wait for 45 minutes but the food hasn't arrive. So I complained when is 55 minutes pass. We finally got the meal 1:10 hours of waiting. The food are nice but were very hungry to enjoy it. They fixed it up by not charging for the meal.

Was expecting better 2bh been going to that motel since I was a kid

A good range of Breakfast food to choose from for young and old and tables far enough a part for comfort . A big thank you to the Chef who went the extra mile and asked first if ok to give my grand children a chocolate fish each with the message to them "You have to finish your breakfast first before you have them" It worked a treat.

This is my third time here, stunning service from the staff every single time, the meals were all lovely and worth every penny. The buffet breakfast is amazing too.

We loved the set Menu for an 80th Birthday. The food was delicious the choice of entree/main was excellent. The desert just capped the evening off. Will definately die here again.

Upon checking into the Copthorne, we realised immediately it was a soul crushing tedious desperately dreary motor inn/conference centre too far from the town centre for comfort. The attached restaurant was a cut above, but we're talking a cut above total disappointment. The food was quite OK, ridiculously over priced, and the service cheerful but slow. If you stay at the Copthorne, you'll be eating here because there is nothing else nearby. For goodness sake don't stay at the Copthorne.

Steak was not very good.

Waiter was a bit lacking with Desert order, we waited 20 minutes & had to hail a waitress to place our order!!!
J. O.
The meal was okay. The big problem was how long it took to receive each course. I think that there are things that need to be sorted out in the kitchen.
