Beautiful setting and beautiful food! It was so good we dined in here for Breakfast and Lunch. Tucked behind the Matakana Markets along the riverside, the outdoor setting is tucked under a shelter and surrounded by plants. Very relaxing! The food was divine! Can highly recommend the Avocado on Toast and Seafood Chowder. Very accommodating staff who gave great advice for visiting the area.

This place came highly recommended. There was indoor and outdoor seating available, the outdoor seating faces a creek, offering a very relaxed atmosphere. Nice food presentation, taste wasn’t anything exciting. Was a bit disappointed with services, very lukewarm.

Year upon year these guys sustain impeccable service in a great location. This time we had the ceviche, chicken salad and chowder along w coffees and a brilliant kids menu - everything is spot on!

Beautiful free range/ethically produced meat and eggs and the best chocolate brownie I have ever had (and I've had a lot)- better to take it home and put it in the fridge for a couple over hours. The hollandaise sauce was slightly too sweet but everything else was great.

We dropped in during the day to enquire if we needed a reservation and found there were very few remaining. Being so popular, we expected great things. The service was the highlight of our visit. Staff were friendly, helpful and when the dessert wine we chose was unavailable, they opened a bottle that isn’t usually served by the glass. The food was good, but could be better. The hapuka was lovely but let down by some strange melon balls and other accompaniments that were fashionable 10 years ago. Same with the lamb, which came with a roast tomato and chewy potato rosti. My only other quibble is that the lighting was much too bright.

A great range of beautiful, homemade food. Reasonably priced. So fresh and tasty. The setting is incredible too. The only disappointing is that even though we bought quite a bit of food they charged us a dollar each for a cup of hot water. I've never, ever been charged for hot water before when eating in and buying food. Even if I get one takeaway I've never paid more than 50 cents and that's for the cup. I think charging that showed bad faith and was just greedy. It was a shame to end an otherwise perfect experience with such a bad taste in your mouth.

We've been frequenting the MMK since we arrived in NZ almost 15 years ago and have always enjoyed the atmosphere and good food. However, our brunch today was disappointing. All our hot drinks came out lukewarm and we felt some of our dishes were not up to their usual high standard. I was disappointed with my Brioche french toast - recently visited our local Columbus coffee shop in Albany and beat the MMK version hands down, and was a about 15% cheaper as well. C'mon MMK, I know you can do better.

Hyped up resto, popular with tourists and locals. Food a bit average and expensive. If you want the "in thing" this is your place to go for gourmet food and beverage. Best to book in advance.

Stopped by for brunch while we were at the markets nearby. The kitchen is the building located right beside the farmers market. We had a table outside which had a nice view of the stream and the markets. It took a while to get the attention of the waitresses but once we did we were able to order. I tried the vegetarian which was quite nice. They did, however, forget the crumbed eggs so they were sent on a separate plate. It was a nice mix of flavours and textures. Sister had a cabinet cake and that took longer to come than the kitchen food. We also had to wait a while for the hot drinks since they had a backlog which we weren't aware of. We had to get the drinks for takeaway since we had already finished our meals when the drinks came out. There were a few hiccups but the food and location are quite nice.

The location of the restaurant is great. You can see great view if sit outside or close to the window. The kombucha ice tea was great. We ordered moana breakfast and shrimp curry which were good but not surprising me. The service was really great. Expect to come back again and try something else.

This restaurant is extremely good for lunch or dinner. Inside and outside tables are available. I recommend the outside table because of the beautiful scenery. Outside is a riverside terrace so nice views are an option. This restaurant serves a varied menu from vegetables to beef even sea food. Lots of food is from the local farms so they serve extremely good quality. The price range is from 10 to less than 50 so not too expensive. This restaurant is quite big but the distance between tables is narrow. At the weekend, this place is crowded so you have to reserve a table.

After a morning of snorkelling in the Tawharanui Marine Reserve, we were really famished and found ourselves in Matakana to search for some lunch. We decided to settle for Matakana Market Kitchen. They have indoor seating that gets a lot of light from the floor to ceiling windows that face towards a nice scenic little ravine in the back. You can also choose to bask in the sunshine at one of the tables on the outside patio. The menu is quite large and a mix & match of a lot of different types of dishes to satisfy from toasty, fruity, hearty, brunchy, or classic style. The service was good and the place wasn’t too busy at around noontime so we were able to enjoy a bit of piece and quiet. We settled for the chorizo & spud crush from the something brunchy section while my YEA opted for the pappardelle al pomodoro from the hearty side. The green goddess smoothie was quite refreshing after drinking some sea water during the morning snorkelling session. Both dishes came quickly and they tasted as described. It didn’t blow me away but it was done with skill and care. The potatoes were nice and crunchy and eggs poached so that they were runny. The pasta dish was satisfactory and the pappardelle was a ok el dente. The ragu sauce was good enough. We left with full tummies and more energy in the tank for the rest of day so mission accomplished.

Lovely dinner here on Easter. Great atmosphere and delicious food. We had the Tom Yum mussels, sticky pork ribs, five spiced duck breast and pumpkin/beetroot side...all were fantastic!

In love with this place. It's right on the creek, and the cafe design is fresh and open with lots of botanicals. It's the perfect relaxing cafe feel. The menu is well thought out, creative, and modern (but still very nostalgic). We came once for breakfast and then back for lunch we we're so enamoured with it. The service is also attentive and the staff bright as sunshine. Lovely! Coming back as often as we can.

Excellent meal, we came through at 10.10am and just missed the chaotic morning rush. The tables are well laid out with a table cloth and a paper cover . Cutlery came in a cardboard flat pack complete with napkin . Service was crisp and pleasant with our coffees coming out nice and hot , followed by our meal which surpassed our expectations . Beautiful flavours and fresh bread for the buns completed a very impressive meal . Highly recommended.

Beautiful restaurant set beside the river in Matakana, perfect for a summer evening meal. The pork ribs were amongst the best ribs I’ve ever had. They were so tender the meat was falling off the bone, and the bbq sauce was perfect. The spaghetti meatballs weren’t as great, but still lovely. Definitely coming back to this place when I’m next in Matakana.

This was our favourite restaurant in Matakana. Beautiful food in a stunning setting by the river. I was blown away at the extensive gluten free menu - thank you so much for going to this effort. Even though gluten free is not hard to do, most restaurants struggle to cater to this up north, so this was a real treat. Highly recommended. Fast service and delicious food.

First time dinning here for my birthday and my whole family and I are so impressed! We couldn't fault the food as it was honestly amazing! We ordered the snapper and scallop risotto and it was beautifully cooed, the rice grains were still whole and intact but it was tender and melt in your mouth. The consistency of the risotto was spot on, the snapper and scallops were cooked perfectly and and plenty of it on the plate. The seasoning was perfect, not too salty, not bland by any means and just rich and velvety, just delicious. Also o, we ordered the scallops with white wine, garlic butter and parmesan and it was just gorgeous to eat. We ordered some agria fries and polenta chips and they were both to die for! I'm a big hot chip fan and the agria fries were perfection - crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside and the aioli dipping sauce was really yummy with it. It had a nice amount of garlic in the sauce but not too garlicky. The polenta chips were absolutely life changing, cragly and crispy on the outside and slightly soft on the inside and it had bits of rosemary running through it and gave it a nice subtle flavour-just yum! I also had the kombucha tea which was yummy and it had raspberries and blueberries in it which was not only pretty but refreshing to eat after I'd drank all of it. It's the little touches like this that makes all the difference in the dining experience. The table was clean and set up nicely, the staff were very accommodating with giving us a table that's inside the restaurant but right in front of the glass doors that overlook the outside bit. We got to see the ducks outside and get some fresh breeze from outside from the comfort of sitting inside the restaurant. It was done on purpose by the friendly man that sat us to our table and we are very grateful. The waiters were attentive but not overly annoying, our 2nd load of drinks took a while but when we asked another waiter to check on it they got onto it right away and apologized which was no biggie at all. My family and I are so happy to find this place, the food is stunning and we will definitely be back again and again for all special occasions or just to splurge out. Also the portion size is great and not overpriced at all! We complemented the chef and the staff to a waitress and we hope this place does not ever change. I highly recommend this beautiful place. P. S. We live in Glenfield north shore and it's worth the 55 minute drive.

Staff were helpful friendly and attentive, we did arrive early though for an evening meal. Lovely fire going which made the place cosy. The menu looked good, we chose salmon which unfortunately was overcooked and dry, and the mash under it a bit solid and lack-lustre. The desserts were really disappointing, the cheesecake was ok, tasty, deconstructed . The tiramasu was actually a shock when it arrived on an almost empty plate with 4 short, little finger sized sausages , with a few small white blobs of something else on the plate, we were going to share it but there wasn’t enough . Not value for money. It all just seemed a bit tired and not really interested. Shame that the anticipation didn’t match the reality.

Fantastic first time experience with my girlfriend, not too many vegetarian options or cold drinks like iced coffee/chocolate, milkshakes, etc. (That I could find on the menu)... Despite that though, the rustic theme and location definitely catches the eye hidden away from the busyness upstairs; even the bridge it's located near adds to the the clever appeal, oddly enough. We had a witty waitress called Olivia, a real delight that complimented the establishment and made any of it's shortcomings feel worthwhile all the same. Based on first impressions, I'd highly recommend experiencing this little wee place and enjoying a time to soak in the atmosphere it's based in.

They have a bit of everything on their menu, also really nice baked stuff (the brownies are unbelievably yummy). Lovely setting, vibrant atmosphere, contemporary decor, good variety of meals all add up to an enjoyable experience. Would only ask that they extend the menu to include more non-meat dishes and that they brief their waitrons more thoroughly about the ingredients used.

The food was okay, but for the price we expected better. The starter was very nice. The seafood paella was dry, although the seafood was fresh and tasted good. Waiter even corrected my pronunciation of word paella (which felt a bit rude and he even didn't know how to do it properly). Overall not impressed.

Superb food, excellent wine selection and great service. Went there for dinner with my 2 & 4 year old girls. Waiter came and dropped off felt tip pens for them to draw all over the brown paper table cloth. 3 course meal for them for $16. Good sized portions for them too. 2 year old wasn't keen to eat the pasta, until the waitress fed her! She was just the perfect host especially as I don't think she was even in our section. As far as the adult meals went, fantastic fish and perfectly cooked scotch fillet. Can really recommend going here.

Stopped here for breakfast. It was fabulous. The atmosphere was great, the fire was on (it was a cold winter morning) and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The meal was delicious and was well presented. there was also plenty for vegetarians. Would definitely recommend going here.

You can tell some thought has been put into the menu with more than the usual suspects on offer. Chicken livers and the toasted coconut bread were great. You do pay around $5 more for some dishes than in the other cafes that are close by, but I guess that's for the riverside view.

If you’re looking for hearty meals with generous portions in this region, do yourself a favour and go here instead of vineyard restaurants... the location is lovely, the staff is great, food is just beautiful. Never been disappointed by this busy little local eatery and the fresh Hapuka washed down with a glass of Pinot Gris that I had last night was no exception. MMK has a casual, warm and relaxing ambience and Mike who runs the front of house with his staff are the most welcoming of hosts. The fresh new menu includes local produce with something to suit all tastes including gluten free and vegetarian options. There is a well considered selection of wines including some from the local Matakana winemakers and the beers are good too. Mike is a craft beer enthusiast so he keeps a decent selection of brews from around the country and is happy to advise on what to match with the food. Looking for an excuse to go back already.
