Very clean, very friendly. Our take aways came very quickly and they were delicious. Also, a take away with a loyalty programme......we'll be back for sure, definitely worth a drive.

Fish and chips were surprisingly good. Butter chicken not salty enough but the naan was good. You get a huge amount of food for such a low price. I just stumbled upon this place after my visit to Hobbiton.

My favourate Indian take away. Superb Butter Chicken but ask for a med. sauce flavour. You will not be disappointed

This is the best Indian curries that my wife and I have had over the last 20 years. The Fish Tikka Marsala and Kadai Chicken curries were beautifully flavoured and expertly spiced. Would recommend Chips N Curry to all who visit Matamata.

Great curry. Don’t be put off by exterior. Sitting here with a mate from Birmingham UK and it’s as good as, if not better than, anything we can get there.

We had the Combo Deal (Butter Chicken + Basmati Rice + Naan ($10) & Chips & Curry ($5). Creamy curry and crispy chips. Extremely valuable for the price you are paying.

If I had an option, I would give 10 starts out of 5 🙂🙂 If you are visiting or passing through Matamata, you must try this place. It was a pleasant surprise for us. Amazing food, great service and friendly people. Had an authentic Indian food after a long time. I’m definitely coming back here again and again.

Best lamb curry I've had in a while, very creamy and nice. Matamata is very lucky to have such a good store, wish it was in Rotorua, and I regret not tipping.

Pleasantly surprised at how good the food was, we had the lamb saag, chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. Also such nice people, they kindly gave us plates and utensils so we could eat at the shop as we were passing through, and they gave us frozen mango desserts to try which my daughter loved. Lucky Matamata to have this place.

No words can describe my experience at this stall! My friends and I come from Singapore, and had strong craving for fish & chips. Chances upon this stall and ordered butter chicken and the “$10 special”. It was totally worth the value especially for the $10 special. 2 “HUGE” fishes, 2 fried circular potatoes, 2 LONG crab sticks and loads of fries! The butter chicken is really sweet as well! Trust me! It is really worth visiting and eating over here. The bosses was really sweet and pleasant! Definitely do come and try it!

The owner is very friendly, she allowed 11 of us to move and combined all the table together for us to dine in. She prepared snacks for us before our food is served. The curry are very nice especially butter chicken. Highly recommended

We shared the curry (butter chicken) lunch deal that had rice and naan and ordered an extra fish between two people. The curry was very yummy!! It was bit too sweet for a diabetic like me but it sure tasted great in my mouth. Another guy had a fish and garlic chips for $6.50 and he said it really filled him up. We ate there because of the weather but it's more of a takeaway. And the lady who cooked and served was very warm.

One of the best tasting curry places ever! We were visiting from Melbourne and found this tiny gem from google maps. We had a combo deal for 10$ which included rice, butter naan and a choice of one curry! It was so tasty and such a bang for the buck deal!!! The crew there was also very friendly!! Would recommend highly!!

Excellent! So good!!! Lovely lovely staff, so friendly. Don't be put off by the exterior, it's a little boring but the food is tasty, delicious and fresh. The masala tea was great and they were more than happy to put it in a takeaway for me. This is by far the best Indian take away in Matamata.

Good price. The curry was way too creamy and sweet in our opinion. We asked for medium spicy but it wasn't even a bit spicy. Overall the taste was ok. The naan bread was delicious.

We were very late for dinner and a quick Google search landed me here. I must admit one of the best foods I have tried in a while, and the price is very reasonable. The lady at restaurant was very helpful and offered a table fan without even asking. Excellent food , Thanks to the chef as well.

Loved everything here! Food is awesome and they have many vegetarian and vegan options! For 10$ you get rice, a curry and naan bread, all of them freshly made and delicious. The lady on the counter is very kind. 10/10

We stopped in on a whim for lunch and were BLOWN AWAY by the lamb korma and mango chicken! Some of the best garlic naan I have had. Great price for the amount of food and nice service.

Highly recommended. I ordered their butter chicken me that comes with rice and naan. Very filling and one of the most authentic Indian dish you can have in NZ. owned and operated by a very nice Indian lady as well. To top it off, the meal only cost $10 which is an absolute steal. Come here to have a meal if you are here for the hobbiton tour, only a 15 mins drive.

Great place to eat! My daughter visited India for 5 months and when we went to eat here, she was impressed by their quality. The chips and curry are ourstanding, and the meal combos are filling and flavorful. Definitely worth the visit.

The food was absolutely delicious, made to order. Prices were very reasonable. Do your self a favor and consider getting a not-pink curry (I’m sure they’re delicious tho) and try something new and wonderful. We got the Vegetable Chettinadu and it was flavorful with the vegetables cooked to perfection with yummy paneer. We also got Lamb Navabi-tender and delicately spiced. Auntie who runs the counter is also very kind. My friend strongly recommends the Chai.

My favorite takeaway in Matamata. Always on time and the Curry’s are great taste and flavor. Nice sized portion with a lot of meats in the curry. Only the problem is sometimes the curry taste unstable but not very often though. Highly recommend.

Amazing fish n' chips. The best we've had so far in NZ. The price couldn't be better and we left matamata after a hobbiton tour feeling full and happy after eating at chips n' curry. Go there! You won't be disappointed.

We stopped in Matamata after visiting the Hobbiton. We had the Chicken Tika Masala and the butter chicken in the combo meal (comes with a nan bread). The food was great! And more than we could finish for a great price. One of our most affordable and yum meals so far in New Zealand.

I shared the 20$ fish n chips special box (4 fish, 4 sausages and chips) with 2 of my mates and it was great! The indian dishes also looked great, but the box filled us up! Would highly recomend! Chips were a bit too salty.

First post on google for this best Indian taste ever in NZ, in relative to experiences in Taupo, Hawks' Bay, etc. Very nice people and very warm experience. Sincerely recommended to everyone passing by Matamata.

It was such a homely experience that AUNTY gave us, once we entered the restaurant with our 2 families of 9, in which 5 were children, all starving for something Indian after a few days of fish/chips/nuggets in NZ! She accommodated all of us into their small take away place.. Food was simply superb, loved their 'madras chicken, chicken tikka masala, chicken briyani, palak paneer n hot naans!! Finger licking good!! Yummy!! She gave us all n more than what we had ordered..all with a smiling face!! We had the priviledge of drinking "Garam-garam masala chai" which is only prepared for aunty n uncle!(meaning it was never for sale😉)! Thank you, aunty n uncle! Cheers!

Amazing food. It's a nice cozy restaurant that will take you by surprise with its food. The first bite would do the trick. We had chicken tikka for starters which was accompanied with fresh lip smacking chutney, Indian bread with chicken tikka gravy ( must try!!) and chicken biryani. One can also try their chicken chilly. I would recommend this place to be your sure shot pit stop when passing Matamata, as you will not leave this place without a satisfied tummy !! 5 stars for this place hands down. Don't miss this !

What a great accidental find in Matamata. Our fish and chips were absolutely delicious thank you. We'll definitely repeat this on our Tauranga-Auckland journeys. You need to put your prices up!!
