I was very impressed by the professionalism and kindness of the staff and really enjoyed the food. We enjoyed the beer tasting and experiencing different craft beers. The only difficultly was narrowing down to 6 out of the 16 offered which all looked great. I loved seeing the cooks preparing the food, visible for everyone to watch and cooking on hot coals. We'd definitely recommend the sharing platter, corn bread, and the pecan & boubon pie. Our two year old daughter ate unusually well and said many times that she really liked the icecream. 5 stars for sure from her. Thank you for the great time and memories for our family.

We came here, in a party of 6, to celebrate a friends 60th. All the staff were friendly, and our waitress Marahia did a fantastic job. We opted for a selection of entrees and these were so amazing: dumplings, prawns, sticky ribs, buttermilk chicken, fried camenbert. The main dishes on the other hand were mostly dissapointing: * The steak was perfectly cooked. * The Brisket was great with lots of vlavour. * The pork belly was juicy and at room temperature however the potato mash was cooler than room temperature. I asked not to have Kimchi salad and opted for a side of roast veggies instead. I still got Kimchi & the veggies were heavily sprinkled with salt, so I couldn't eat these. * The burgers were big however the meat patties were cold. These were send back to the kitchen to be reheated and being returned to the table after +-5 mins as cold as it was when send back. So the friends decided to just eat it as it seemed to be in the 'just too hard basket' to send back. This was our first dining experience at The Fat Cow and our last.

Great service. My burger was cold and would have gone back if I wasn't so hungry. All the burgers on the table were also cold. Unfortunately the pulled pork taco wasn't pulled pork and was disappointing. On a good note though the kumera fries and the burger were tasty.

Staffs are absolutely nice and helpful and food is delightful!! I can't say the price is cheap but worth it. The ribs have amazing flavors and even drinks were great. Definitely I will visit here.

This restaurant would be my top restaurant of all time. The food beats any steak i have ever purchased at any restaurant in my lifetime. The staff are amazing, efficient friendly and appear to love their job. Met the owner who is also just like his staff friendly, chatty and very accommodating. My only complaint is they dont have a fat cow in wellington. Nothing will live up to this place again. Service and food far beyond my expectations. Prices may be higher than some other places but worth every cent. Knocks every other steak I've ever had out of the ballpark. Try it if you're ever at the mount, you won't regret it.

While having a couple of drinks today at the Fat Cow we were really impressed with the staff. A disoriented elderly man found his way into the restaurant. The staff (particularly the young blond lady) were kind and compassionate to him and spent a long time sitting and chatting to him. They gave him water, a small meal and tried to find out who he was and where he lived. By way of a Medic Alert bracelet (?) they located a family member who turned up some time later. Awesome!!

The salad and the roast veges did not compliment the shoulder lamb with very minimal salad and minimal roast veges. Maybe needs looking at if you need to add value to the whole meal. However, the shoulder lamb was cooked to perfection. Absolutely beautiful. Great waitresses as well

So my son was a little reserved to go here and was out off because of the name, but once we got here, he quickly changed his mind. Our food was incredible and my steak was pretty much perfect. I've recommended this restaurant to a number of friends and workmates and at least one or my bosses shares my feelings on the place. Looking forward to going back and I know my son will jump at the chance for another meal here. 😍👍

Food was we presented however when someone pays top prices for food I expect my ribeye as per my order. It was served well done and not medium rare. Off putting for such an expensive cut. However the staff and our waitress were very pleasant.

Lovely cafe with good selection of meats and beer. I had the sirloin steak which was delicious (just the right amount of fat to meat) and also the chicken wings starter which were a generous 5 pieces for $2.50. My husband & I had a lovely weekday dinner here. One of my favourite dining experiences in New Zealand. A must for all meat lovers! Come hungry. Delicious and well presented food, clean and trendy facility, and some of the best customer service you will encounter. My favourite is definitely the chicken tenders they have for entree and the very friendly Argentinian lady. Great location!!

What a pleasant experience to dine at La Vaca Gorda or Fat Cow! We had the shared plate with a mix of the best meats, soft bread, coleslaw and chips. Along side, green salad and mac&cheese. The decoration is awesome, clean and spacious. There are some outside sitting, high tables and inside plenty of seating. What impressed me the most was the drinking menu, incredible variety and quality. Will come back certainly!

We got the big rack of pork ribs which were the best, juiciest and most delicious ribs I’ve had since I was in the southern US. Awesome range of local craft beers, and a delicious pecan and bourbon pie to finish. Great friendly service, can’t wait to come back.

This is the best smokey ribs I have had in NZ. After eating at Smokey D's in Des Moines Iowa I have tried many ribs in NZ only to be sadly disappointed. Not this time. Delicious, moist and smokey. Hubby loved his steak, too.

Unfortunately very noisy from road side. Starters and most mains were nice, but be warned that the BURGERS were SERIOUSLY DISAPPOINTING. It came with ice cold patties and piping hot chips. The Fat Cow has the most delicious BBQ I’ve ever had, to the extent that I ate there two nights in a row when I was staying in Mount Maunganui. I tried the brisket and short ribs, both of which were amazing. Eating at the kitchen bar while chatting to the chefs it was clear that they’re passionate about BBQ, and it shows in the food they produce. I’ll definitely be going back the next time I’m visiting the Mount.

Delicious BBQ food. Good selection of local craft beer (16 taps) and plenty of wine too. Service is excellent and plenty of information provided. They have a comprehensive selection of hot sauces available, including a Ghost Chilli. We seems to always get the sharing platter, it's very delicious, and more than enough for the two of us. Save room for desert, the pecan pie and ice cream is delicious.

As a large group (15 or 16) however, we were seated along a long table (2 tables) that made conversation a little difficult at times. So, if you have a large group, keep that in mind.

Perhaps my favorite restaurant in all of NZ. Everything we ordered was perfectly executed. The brisket especially was a highlight, but everything in the sharing platter tasted outstanding. This place was absolutely incredible on all levels - they were fully booked but the service was still 10/10, the food came quickly (kids first then adults not long after) and the food...omg I will be visiting the mount again soon just so I can eat there. I ordered the whole lamb shoulder which fed 3 of us and I went home with a full container of lamb. Can not wait to come back

Put simply, the best restaurant my wife and I have ever been to for steak. The chef really knows what he's doing. The sauces are delicious, and the outer surface of the steak is seasoned perfectly. Service was tops, and beer selection was phenomenal. If you are in Mt Maunganui, wanting a good steak meal with a craft beer, and friendly service. This place is perfect. Just watch out, as the do get busy.

Good for kids. Friendly staff. Great beer selection. We arrived exhausted after having just walked all around the base of the mount with our two little monsters (boys 3 and 5). Suffice to say our toddler was massively acting up but the kids menu, which includes juice, a choice of meal (ours chose the fried chicken) and icecream, with colouring on the back of the menu and crayons really helped settle the boys down. The baked brie is to die for. My husband was also very happy with the churros, and the beverage selection was just what we needed - for example the rhubarb cider was a dessert in itself. The atmosphere is also great as it was fun seeing the chef at work behind the counter. We will be back!

We had a great night as a family and staff were very friendly and accommodating....but the range of main dishes on offer is very small and prices are quite steep! Also, the tomato juice and peach tea were half ice, half drink so might be best to ask them to go easy on the ice because you don't get much to quench your thirst. Our daughter is a tween and the only meal available for her was a beef burger at $25 plus an iced tea mocktail at $11. That's expensive. No traditional beers on tap like Macs or Monteith. Only craft beers :( We are not going again because of the limited range and pricing. Plus we had a 55 minute wait for our food. They did give us some free drinks however to make up for it.

Was keen to try the Fat Cow as it always seemed busy when I had passed by. The decor is great and very appealing. The service was good, all be it a little slow. Menu looked good and I ordered a beef burger at $29. The food however was a little disappointing. For that kind of price for a burger it needs to be pretty special and in my opinion it wasn't. Might be tempted to go back and try something else off the menu, but with the other choices available the Mount I don't think I will.

Wow, was so surprised by this place. Never been before, heard it was good so we tried it out. Got a shared platter, green salad and ale. Really good portions, great flavor, started us with some free garlic bread which is a rare treat in NZ. The platter had salt and pepper brisket which was fairly tender with a very flavorful bark, pulled pork with a smoky BBQ sauce that was super tender with lots of flavor, fried chicken that was boneless and very tender and tasty, homemade bread, delicious slaw, pickles and super thick chips with an aioli. Met the couple who own it, super friendly, talked through the food influencesand such. Highly recommend this place. Our whole dinner was $100. Fantastic amount of food for the price. Great service as well.

Arrived Saturday evening just before six, place was busy but they found us seating. Service is great with friendly and helpful staff. Ordered the shared platter for two and 5 buffalo wings. Wings must be a popular choice as they only had 3 left and so offered them to us on the house. Platter size was perfect for two, though if youre both absolute units then might need to order more. Great place to enjoy and relax.

The foods Here are amazing and it's not that expensive too. The staffs are so friendly and accommodating. Tried the beef burger with fries and it's so good. They have this blackboards with wheels where they will show and explains whats on the menu. There's also free wifi.. Just ask for the password, it's free.

Had a great evening savouring the smoky tastes of an American/Mexican grill and smokehouse. We were belatedly celebrating our wedding anniversary and found that they don't take bookings for less than 4 but thought we'd just walk in at peak time and try our luck. On arrival we were told there'd be maybe a half hour wait but as it turned out it was only a couple of minutes, enough time to order a drink at the bar and head to our table. The restaurant itself isn't huge, which is nice, and has outdoor seating. The menu consists of a range of meats and sides, which you can mix and match to your liking, or a great value shared platter for 2 which gives a chefs selection of 4 sides and 4 meats. We had this and were plenty full with some left on the platter, followed up with a shared dessert of traditional churros. Looking at the menu they also do a high end sirloin or T bone steak which both looked amazing (other diners ordered them) but huge and pricey. Finally they also have a kids menu, $16 and they can pick one of 3 mains with fries, a drink and dessert. Extensive wine and beer list, great cocktails, relaxed atmosphere and delicious food. Will definitely be going back.

My long black was not good. Too much water and acidic. Also, the waiters clearly have the instruction to make you buy food so they're pushing quite a bit. Sometimes you just want a coffee and relax but I didn't feel to comfortable by doing that here. Nice live music though

I really enjoyed my meal. Smoked salmon with sides of green salad and roasted veges ($33). My husband enjoyed his sirloin steak ($42), although he said it wasn't the tenderest steak he's had and he didn't like it being served on a wooden board. It came with salad and fries. Can't comment on the food. The menu was too complicated. They tried to explain it but we couldn't hear over the loud screaching music. After repeated attempts to have the music turned down and unable to talk to each other walked out without ordering. They disn't seem to care that the music was far to loud for a restaurant. That and the noise from road traffic made it a very unpleasant place to be.

First off, the name of the restaurant rings through the whole mid sized, BBQ modern decor. The milk bottles as beer glasses?! The cowbell that gets rung when food is ready?! The ribs were as close to St.louis ribs as I would get back home, and the sides were like I was at a big family cookout on a summer evening. My partner and I were really thrilled with the atmosphere, the wait staff, the food, and overall the experience this place has curated for its patrons. And the beer was all local stuff (tried the Bad Mama Jama imperial IPA from Funktown brewery).

The first time I went I ordered two meats for lunch and it was very little meat for about $30. Went again today and it was much better. The meat is cooked at a low temp and can look very rare. It tastes great though.

Great to see the restaurant was full again! Staff are very friendly and attentive. Meals were a generous serving and delicious. We had ribs and a burger. The only niggle was the cocktails, not cheap, small glasses, completely full to the top with crushed ice. Maybe 3 or 4 sips and cocktail was gone, left with a glass full of ice! I did give feedback to server at the time.
