Reviews of Bistronomy
L.
We wanted to like this place, but sadly we would not go back. The place was pretty empty when we showed up and there were easily 20 tables available. We had to sit and wait over 10 mins for them to set our table. The food was ok, but seemed to lack seasoning over all. Plus the prices were very high for the sizes especially what were considered mains but were appetizer size. The wines list is very over priced with charging over $20+ a glass for a $38 bottle.
I felt bad because there was only one chef in the kitchen and no one else, not even a dish washer. Only 2 staff total on the floor, which I am sure is a reflection of COVID red status at the moment. The staff were very nice but moved with a lackadaisical vibe.
G.
An absolutely wonderful dining experience. Food, and the presentation of it, was excellent. Customer service first class.
Led by Owner/Chef Jason, along with Maitre'd Abraham and Waiter Dean, it was a fantastic evening. Thank you everyone.
Z.
Service, food, atmosphere and drinks are absolutely outstanding! We had the set menu of 6 courses + a Devine dessert, it was more than impressive. The service was immaculate, and delicate, with woman served first and men right after, every meal was bought out at the same time and staff happily described the origin and flavours of every meal. If you are looking for large quantities this isn’t the place for you, however if your looking to try European style cuisine at the best quality in Napier, this place is a must try!
B.
The food was really nice, you can see the details and dedication in each course. I am giving 5 stars not just for the food Also for the great service, the French waitress made our experience 100% worth it. Was the first time in Hawke's Bay that the waitress took the time to suggest the menu and gave us some recommendation. Highly recommend for an intimate dinner.
J.
A surprise. Fine dining with all the trimmings you would expect. We all had the chef’s selection as a blind degustation and each course was a taste and smell sensation. You can’t go wrong. The wine menu was exceptional, but more exceptional was the intimate knowledge of not only the wine but the vintner’s secrets to success. Wines clearly sourced through appreciation and understanding of the craft.
E.
Wow amazing wonderful service highly recommend this restaurant

Do not hesitate to book a table and dine at Bistronomy. We found the experience absolutely excellent, probably the best we have had so far in New Zealand: the presentation of the dishes and their explanation was second to none and the flavors! Wonderful, wonderful food!
I am sure the wine pairing was excellent as well. The service was impeccable, from the initial greeting, to the table service: Ibrahim made our experience even better! Highly, highly recommended.
T.
Without a doubt, the best restaurant that I have been to in Napier.
The dining room is set out along a long and narrow building with the kitchen and bathroom toward the back. The decor is very unique and finished well.
The food is the highlight of Bistronomy, changing seasonally it is well thought out.
Service is also impeccable, our server knew all aspects of the menu.
I would recommend Bistronomy for a date night or an intimate dinner with friends.
G.
A truly memorable evening! Fantastic staff, thank you Jacob, Dean & Abraham. The food was first class and the wine recommendation from Jacob was inspired! We'll be back for sure
A.
Lovely interior decoration and great atmosphere, suitable for dates or family dinners. Our hostess/waitress was very accommodating and welcoming. We had the beef Wellington and the pork hock/pork belly with a side of fries and bread for starters.
The portion is decent and quality is very good. The hock/pork belly was a little dry for me but it was still very good. The beef cheek Wellington was very moist and the pastry was super! It was definitely our favorite dish.
The dessert was very good also.
The chips and bread was a good compliment.
They have a good selection of NZ wine and we got the Hopes Grove Syrah, very nice I must say.
Would definitely come back next time I visit Hawkes Bay
B.
We were really impressed all round with this restaurant! The food was amazing! Menu choices were interesting, quite unusual. Everything was cooked to perfection, presented very well, and the service was excellent too!
Best restaurant meal I've had in a long time.
I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion!
J.
Really disappointing this evening. After being here a few times and bringing my friends down from Auckland to have the wonderful experience I have had in the past it’s left me wondering if I will be back. We had made a booking for 4 and once we arrived we had to wait for two staff members to seat us only to be at a table set for 3. The Waiter made us feel out of place and if as we had inconvenienced them by being there. Reluctant to stay after being embarrassed infront of other patrons we stayed to see if the experience would get better. Think there is a lesson in not judging a book by the cover. Hoping that next time I choose to dine here the experience will be back at the standard I’ve been used to and know it can be.
A.
The 3 rd experience of fine dining / degustation menu.
Once again walked in and the staff were very accommodating but had to sit at bar as no space even though I arrive at 8.15 pm. The food got served in quick pace.
The set menu is part of their A la carte.
I got house bread with cauliflower, sashimi and chicken wing for entree. For mains beetroot risotto and mussle fish fennel powder. The fennel powder was nice n new to me. Dessert was mocha cake I think.
Overall 107$ with drink which is expensive as the food didn’t contain many expensive items. Thus value for meal is 3 or less but taste definitely 4-4.5.
Reading other comments indeed the food quantity is small but if u r dinning a set menu then u do have 4 to 5 dishes to go thru n that fills you up with drinks. Guess if one is in 20s or a big eater, then yes food is quantity is tiny. The small quantity probably holds true for a number of degustation menus I have been too.
Once again for an occasion / one time affair..

Visited again Apr 2021.
This time I was very disappointed. I reached at 2040hrs and the staff agreed to seat me but the kitchen was really closing and I would have preferred the straight answer of not being able to dine, rather than a half hearted attempt. Steaks and anything that’s took longer than 10 mins wasn’t allowed and neither was dessert.. I prolly Shd have left myself.
I had chicken wings which weren’t wings at all but crispy fried batter on top of chicken pieces. 17.25$ for piece of 4. Poor taste and felt worse than kfc to be honest. 1/5 for value n taste.
Organic chicken was 29$ which was a thick piece of chicken breast with not much taste. 1/5 for value n taste unfortunately.
The cocktail Sicilian 20$ Was prolly the highlight.
Overall 67$. Not worth it at all..
J.
Exceptional busy night being mondayised boxing day.
Good was very good as expected, ordered rib eye steak on the bone, ordered at $15 for 100g ,think we got 600g not as tender as hoped, also we ordered a 1/2 beef cheek Wellington very tender and wholesome, surprised not to find mushroom duxelle.
Paired with a delicious decibel pino noir finished the dish off perfectly.
r.
The food and service were both great. We ordered Good Fish and Beef Cheek Wellington as mains and Hash Brown as side. They were all cooked beautifully; and the Beef Wellington was the champion.
M.
Jason is an amazing chef, host and sommelier, thoroughly suggest his wine and degustation suggestions.
C.
Excellent, interesting food and attentive staff. Thoroughly enjoyed all courses (see pics) and good wine pairings. Given the quality of the food I think the tasting menu represented pretty good value for money. It's quite a small restaurant so reservations recommended.
S.
If you love food, healthy eating and great service, you just have to try Bistronomy!
We selected the Chef’s choice of 6 plates and wow, we anticipated each deliciously different and artistically plated dish with delight and thoroughly enjoyed the total Bistronomy experience.
Excellent wine selection too.
Be adventurous and go with house recommendations as the staff are knowledgeable and attentive.
Make sure you book in advance.
M.
Buzzing place. Great food options. We choose the 6 course tasting menu which is good value. Service started out good - pleasant, informative and prompt - but then it fell over with the first 2 courses coming close together and then really long delays between courses. Then we had to wait at the counter 10 minutes plus to pay the bill!
J.
We been to this place several times now. Highly recommend to go to this place if you want to enjoy great quality food
N.
We had the chef's choice 6 courses with matched wine and what an extraordinary dining experience. Food and service was of the highest standard and would highly recommend a visit to this restaurant.
M.
Food was awesome, service was awesome. Waitress had only been working there for a few days but did an excellent job of explaining the menu and giving us a more personalised experience.
Although we have eaten better for less elsewhere. Check out @oli.viaeats on instagram for more passionate reviews
M.
A good friend and I went to this place. Absolutely delicious. The starter of the chicken liver pâté with tamarillo in a doughnut was the real stand out. We will be back again for sure some day!
S.
This is our second visit to Bistronomy after I found it back in February as a special treat for my wife during a long road trip home from Rotorua to Wellington and I saw they had a tasting menu "Chef's Choice" 6 course meal with matching wines. The first visit was great fun discovering how food and wine go together and this past weekend's visit was no different. The food was great. The wine was great. The chef's choices were perfect. And our sommelier nailed it 6 times over. Well actually 7 times. Or 8. We stayed on for a couple of extra ports afterwards. If you are in the area and want a dining experience like never before, book a table at Bistronomy and go with Chef's Choise with matching wines.
N.
Whilst the food was divine, and I totally get what they're trying to achieve, the Manager was slightly rude, struggled to accommodate us, when the place was empty. But they did accommodate us, with kids, so was appreciated. The wait staff could have done more to explain the food, or at least what Bistronomy were trying to achieve, so that expectations could be set. This wasn't done, so we were left a little perplexed, but still enjoyed the experience. We've been to many degustation meals and enjoy them - but only when we were prepared and understood what we were getting ourselves into!
A.
Exquisite! The dishes were perfectly prepared and the portions just right for someone with a small appetite like me that just wants a sample of everything. I had the oyster, lavender sashimi, ham & melon and finished with the honeycomb fig ice cream. Great wine pairings and selection. The cocktails are the highlight : must try the Ciao Siciliano - so good!
H.
This place is absolutely stunning, the decor is amazing, the atmosphere is chilled, the staff are kind, courteous and very good at what they do and the food omg my mind was blown out of this world, the flavour explosions with each bite Devine! If you want one of the best dining experiences you'll have then definitely go here
R.
Pretty average. Service was excellent when we arrived, but fell off sharply during the evening. We were asked if everything was okay during our bread starter (it was bread and butter, how bad could it be?), but not after our mains arrived: including an undercooked steak and a lamb dish with so little meat, and such overpowering stuffing, I didn't taste lamb at all. Very much focused on the hipster vibe, at the expense of quality experience. We were seated by the bar, and most of our meal was accompanied by the sound of the bartender breaking ice off a brick, then chipping away to get ice that fit inside the glasses he was using. Just give the man sensible ice cubes... less trendy but easier on the guests and a lot less handling of the ice! Missed the mark.
N.
After some initial concerns re the menu I was pleased with the outcome. Our meals were adapted to accommodate our keto diet.
J.
Six of us had an extraordinary meal at Bistronomy last night. We chose the six course tasting menu with paired wines. 7 pm - 10:30. Exquisite array of entrees, mains and a dessert and luscious New Zealand wines. Service was informed, professional, and friendly. It was a bit more than a good meal. Couldn’t go wrong here
C.
Wow, this restaurant was an incredible find! I visited with my colleague on a recent work trip and we were both blown away. Coming from Wellington, we have very high expectations when it comes to food, and thankfully this did not disappoint. The food was elegant and innovative (check out the snack selection, served on rocks!), the wine was superb, and the staff were very welcoming. We really loved the chic decor and the relaxed vibe of the restaurant. I will definitely be back when I make my way to Napier again! Top marks team.
L.
There’s a devotion to wine at Bistronomy. The wine list is good, but if that’s not enough the walls are lined with bottles for retail sale that they’ll serve with a corkage. The very knowledgeable manager helped us to select a couple of superb bottles.
Food was delicious, including the silkiest chicken liver parfait we’d tried in a long time.
Service was really spot on. Our waitress was helpful with a sense of humour and the aforementioned manager ensured we had some beautiful wines.
L.
Good food here. Felt a bit squashed and too close to other diners In this covid Era....
J.
Flawed. First, the prices are quite high. I do not mind that by itself, but if a dinner is costing $75 per person without drinks the expectations are higher. The restaurant has good food, but overly small portions on some dishes. I had the six course chefs dinner and it was not quite enough in total by about 10-15%. But the frustration was not that I left hungry but that there were several dishes that simply did not have enough to enjoy the plate itself. Such as the gazpacho that was, literally, about a large spoonful. The service was good, and the ambiance nice. Four of the six plates were excellent, with two coming out as good but not interesting. Overall, I would recommend this place only to those who do not mind spending significantly more money in order to get a slightly better meal.
D.
Had the 6 course degustation with matched wines. It was amazing. Passion for food and wine really shone through with the meals and the staff. A very interesting menu and selection. Had some food I had never tried before as well as some new wines too. Great experience and atmosphere. A nice casual place with fine dining.
V.
Nice meal and great service. Thought it quite expensive. Was concerned that no service staff were wearing masks.
L.
Lovely space, fabulous range of wines but nicest of all the best service - really knowledgeable, passionate and not at all pushy. Thanks 😊
M.
Has a couple interesting vegan options. Didn't have any hassle customizing, overall it was fun to try. Good cocktails as well.
D.
Outstanding, had the 6 course fixed menu with wine pairing.
My advice, try everything!
C.
Probably one of the nicest meals I've every eaten. We had the nine course degustation with matching wines and it was awesome.
A.
Marvellous experience. Food was excellent. Cameron, especially, was a highlight. He worked around us -- a large group, frequently changing the booking and on Art Deco weekend -- with friendliness and good grace. 10/10 would recommend. (Only reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is that we are all poor students)
F.
Excellent experience, great flavors and great service.
Highly recommend 👌
S.
Front of house staff were amazing. Disappointed as booked on line prior to be seated by the door and one of us facing a wall. We felt as if we weren’t a part of the Restaurant ambiance. Requested another table but ‘all booked’ however we noticed there were empty tables when we left. Food was amazing however (degustation). But....we were not aware that the wines which were paired with the courses, two wines which were disappointing, were an extra cost. Would have thought a nicer fish than ‘Lemon Fish’ to be served as it is such an expensive meal. Would choose the ordinary menu next time.
J.
Bistronomy was a lovely atmosphere and service was exquisite. Food presentation was well presented and well cooked but we felt the food was lacking flavour. First time visitor to Napuer which loved every minute of the area shall be back.
N.
Buzzing atmosphere for dinner with interesting flavours, really enjoyed the mushroom dish and fried chicken. The maître’d was lovely and accidentally forgot to mention a dietary requirement until the dish arrived but the staff were happy to make an adjustment.
M.
One of the best meals of my life, absolutely fantastic, especially as a former chef! Abram also made our evening sublime, the complete dining experience!
K.
The food was very nice but small portions for the price and it took forever to arrive. We arrived at 7pm and did not get our mains until around 9pm. Also you should be aware that if you book online for a party of 2 they will put you at the bar. There is no explicit or easy to see warning of this. The couple in front of this walked out because they had booked and were shown the bar seats. They do say if a table comes free they will move you to it. We took a chance and sat at the bar and watched a table for 2 remain vacant until about 8.15 when after asking a couple of times if we could have it they eventually moved us to it. It's a nice location, venue and atmosphere and the food is good but I just feel that this place may be a little to in love with itself.
L.
Amazing chef selection, matched w wine. Excellent food, with a comprehensive explanation of Chef's choice, w amazing wine match. Detailed information matched w wines, and excellent match, from our point of view. Family run restaurant putting in extra yards and care to insure customers are looked after. Thank you!!
M.
In Napier for Crowded House and stumbled upon Bistronomy. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Best service and stunningly presented, delicious food with outstanding wine menu. Absolutely delightful staff and overall 100%joyful experience. Will be back and if you're in Napier go to Bistonomy!!!
M.
Came here with my partner for my birthday dinner. Served by friendly and professional staff. Food was top-notch and nicely complimented by a great cocktail list and wine selections. Thank you Jessie and the team in Bistronomy you have made it a great night for us!
J.
We were up from Wellington, and are big fans of the some of the wine bars down there (Puffin and the like). This place is great - fitout, wine list, service and general ambience. We just sat at the bar and had four half glasses and the staff were really attentive and accommodating. The glass pour list clearly has a focus on local wine which is excellent, but there is much more variety in the cellar list.
b.
Superior cuisine, superior staff, superior surroundings. Don't waste time. Book NOW! I'm 60 years old and for the first time I tasted what real food can be like. Amazing! A real gift.
C.
My friends and I visited during the Waitangi long weekend and the restaurant was quite busy when we arrived. The wait time for our meal was at least 45 minutes after we ordered (no red meats ordered), our starters and mains came out at the same time and there was little to no attention given to us during this time. This would have been understandable if the waitressing staff had been more friendly and had acknowledged the wait time when the food was served, however this was not the case. I ordered the fish of the day, which was very salty and I struggled to finish the meal due to this. Better service could have improved this overall experience significantly, will not be returning.
A.
Another amazing meal had last night at Bistronomy! The Autumn/Winter menu is our favourite. Cocktails are delicious and the whipped butter on focaccia is absolute heaven. The lamb's always cooked to perfection 🥰... cooked so beautifully that my partner said they'd be happy to die and be served up if that's what he'd taste like haha!
M.
Very good service, great ambience. Would have given 5 stars but disappointed with the lack of vegetarian options. Just one vegetarian main?? Provencial New Zealand has a lot of catching up to do with Wellington and Auckland where a place like that would have a few more vegetarian and vegan options.
S.
Nice service. Good tap beer and wine. Fine food.
S.
Such friendly, helpful staff. Food very yummy and the waiter helped pair wine to our meal. All very marvellous and would go again anytime. Thank you for a great evening.
B.
Our meal at Bitronomy was superb.
We had the 6 course tasting menu and cannot recommend it enough. We didn't want to know in advance what was in store and each course was a pleasant surprise. The staff were friendly and attentive, we can't really fault anything.
R.
Superb food and an excellent wine list with wonderful, attentive and friendly service. Worth every penny.
H.
Lovely food. The front of house reception leaves a lot to be desired. Left us standing around for several minutes whilst they talked amongst themselves.
All that is required is a "I'll be with you in a moment ".
One star for front of house staff, 5 stars for the food.
A.
Great unusual experimental food/menu, of the type seen in Copenhagen. Mostly delicious though couldn't take to the sharks liver ice cream!
C.
Really enjoyed the evening here. Great food with interesting flair and interest and some very good wines. The staff were amazing. Competent respectful and engaging. Thks for a great evening.
W.
My partner and I sat at the bar in front of the Chef for dinner as they were fully booked on Thursday night. We had the chicken for a starter which was great and the rib eye to share, really enjoyed our meal and had great banter with the Chef. The place was buzzing and we will be back when in the area again❣
p.
Excellent food (beef cheek exquisitely tender with surrounding light pastry and beautiful sauce between meat and pastry), good music, calm atmosphere with quiet friendly people. Good wine list, different from the 'usual' including unique labels. Jenny Dobson Merlot very nice. Thoroughly recommend for a pleasant, relaxed evening with excellent food.
J.
The stars are for the delicious salmon only. No drink was offered to me, no dessert was allowed as we were asked to leave two hours after arrival because they had booked our table out to another party - there was no mention of this when I booked the table. Very disappointing - Kicked out on my birthday at 8pm :(
I see your reply - no apology? Yes I was late but that's irrelevant to not being informed on the 8pm booking, had dessert elsewhere was so hungry.
R.
The place is amazing. Great food. Tasty. Innovative. Exciting and interesting. Service was outstanding. Friendly. Wine selection is superb. Truly worth a visit if in Napier.
B.
A must to visit for Adults.
Nice Decor,
Superbly Presented &
OH some yummy.
L.
Feel a little disappointed by this place and I was really looking forward to it. The timing was completely off. Paired wines arrived half an hour before the food in each course so the wine was finished before food arrived. Almost 4 hours to get through 6 courses which felt a bit dragged out. Service was generally so so but sommelier was knowledgeable. Felt very let down by the chocolate mousse - not at all inventive or interesting. Overall not bad but felt a bit sad afterwards not helped by being stuffed into a corner between the coats and the toilet.
N.
Loved the degustation with wine match. Some staff would benefit from more hygiene training like coughing into elbows & not hands & using frequent hand disinfection.
T.
Really really good. Call for reservations. We went on a Friday night and they were pretty full. We sat at the bar, but I noticed at least one table was empty all night so whatever. We ordered the tasting menu w matching wines. Everything was so good. Favorites were the venison (I'm not quite vegan on vacation) and the plum dessert. It was all good though. Highly recommend this place.
G.
We had a great experience at Bistronomy on a Sunday evening. The service was amazing and the food and cocktails were very good. We ordered the steak and it came with several extras like salad, cauliflower and potatoes to put together a full dinner. They even had a bucket full of toys for our little one to keep her busy during dinner.
S.
I had heard a lot about this place, but thought the reputation exceeding the reality. It had a nice atmosphere, attentive staff and the food was good but it was very expensive for what you got.
S.
Best food I've had in a long time! Worth going back for sure.
L.
When you find those places that have every single thing down to a T. . .WOW Bistronomy you have got it! The most incredible flavours, perfectly balanced, the rare kind that make you close your eyes... absolute food heaven! The service was outstanding, our gentleman who used to work in Amisfield, Queenstown. . . it's rare to find people so on point when it comes to delivering impeccable service, these people should be held on to and rewarded exceptionally, they are the reason people come back which makes the business. Thank you Bistronomy, 10/10 from us.
M.
Loved this place. A gem of Napier. Some locals suggested it was fine dining but is a good for value bistro with good food, wine & cocktails with excellentservice. Will definitely come back next time!
M.
Enjoied a fabulous dinner at Bistronomy last night. We were welcomed by friendly staff and our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable. When our meals came to the table to did not disappoint. Perfect presentation and perfect on the pallet. A good selection of local and other NZ wines were available too. We most certainly would recommend dining at Bistronomy.
P.
Fantastic creative food menu. We managed to get a table for two on a Friday night without booking. We chose the $80 chef's six course menu which included two main courses. Every course had fresh local produce beautifully presented. Some unusual combinations such as fig leaf and honey butter. The service was very attentive but we had four different waitresses attend us and things got a bit mixed up.
B.
The location is really convenient. It is right on the Octagon and really easy to get to. It's a lovely stroll around the historic buildings and while we were here in the fall, the outdoor dining in the summer looks really fun. The food is what made the place really special. They are moving back to their original location in April so check them out there!
D.
Stopped into this place on a whim, as we liked the look. It has Meat decor, an interesting menu, and some good beer. Their menu is quite innovative, including such items as pumpkin lasagna and parsnip desserts.
Service was good, if a little slow. We were seated by the door, and found that it was quite cold. There was no draft, it was just cold by the window.
H.
First date night in a while and we loved it!
We were adventurous and tried out the set (surprise) menu. We had our own choice of wine as we prefer red plus started off with a couple of cocktails (go big or go home, right?).
Staff were wonderful and knowlegable. The food was amazing and some new firm favourites in there.
H.
You need reservations - we saw many people turned away because it was full. The wine list was informative. The service was good. The food was fine - some unusual combinations that may contribute to the look but not to the overall taste (too much contrasting flavors).
O.
Nicest chicken I've ever had, salmon was too rare for me personally but the flavors were gorgeous and married well in both the starter and the main. Highly recommend.
S.
Enjoyed the buzzing atmosphere here - good vibes. The sommelier was helpful with our wine choices. Food was beautifully presented. The sides are big (suggest one between two) and overall the food was delicious. Highly recommend a visit!
D.
Simply brilliant. Staff were attentive, helpful and confident. The food is delicious, leaving you wanting more. Menu is great for sharing and the wine list is a lovely mix of local and abroad. Would drive 6 hours any day to dine here.
E.
Bistronomy was amazing! As fabulous as everyone promised! The food and recommended wine matches were spot on, the flavours out of this world and the expertise, professionalism and friendly service exceptional.
E.
Wow guys!! You blew our socks off. What a amazing menu. And invetiveness of ideas. Only found one small glitch with desert when the salty caramel was a little OTT. We have travelled the world and Napier should be soooo glad to have you.
M.
Had the 9 course menu with pairing wines and additional a cheese tasting plate. It was a perfect evening with perfect service, perfect food, wonderful choice of wines and relaxing atmosphere. Definitely worth a stop in Napier
L.
We tried the 9 course tasting menu for my partner's birthday, and it was unlike any other dining experience either of us had ever had.
Each dish was unique and delicious. Stand-outs included the 'traditional French fish and bread' course (toasted brioche with smoked eel, pickle relish, and a mindblowing savoury sorbet), the Patangata beef tartare (wrapped in lardo, with hibiscus poached rhubarb, berry wafer, and smoked beef jerky), and the deconstructed strawberry cheesecake (with strawberry herb sorbet, Graham cracker, goat cheese 'filling', and rosé soaked strawberries, lemon-lime gelatine).
The one dish neither of us was overly excited by was the fish (seared, with a cannelini bean cassoulet, semi-dried tomato, and native spinach); if we had been ordering main sizes, I would have been disappointed to receive this relatively ordinary plate - especially after seeing what else Bistronomy has on offer!
Our booking was for 5.30pm during summer, and the sun was uncomfortably warm in the window where we were seated. For some reason the air conditioning was not running. This couldn't distract us from the amazing food, but if you're especially sensitive to heat, I would suggest choosing a different time or table location.
We'll definitely be back, even if it's just for a quick bite or dessert.
S.
A dining experience to savour! Fantastic flavours! Would recommend the chicken starter, delicious! Attentive and friendly service. Enjoyable night😊
L.
A fantastic experience! The service was amazing and a highlight for me! We got the chefs choice 5 courses (one without seafood) on a Saturday night and everything from the food itself (sooo good), the timing of the meals coming out and the service was perfect. You would be missing out if you did not eat here when in Napier!
B.
The food here is great and the staff and service matches. The chef working the night we were there clearly wasn't enjoying his job though but everyone else made up for it.
F.
Our meal was absolutely delicious and the service was exceptional. Thank you for a wonderful evening. The staff are as delightful as the food.
P.
A hatted restaurant on the heart of Napier. And it deserves to be. Great flavours a wonderful dinning experience.
J.
A fantastic dining experience
M.
Awesome food and staff, they managed to take a walk in on a busy night with a good food wait time. Well done
N.
One of the best meals out in the Bay, yet surprisingly not too hard to get a table. Staff went out of their way to provide excellent service and we're happy to modify the set course to vegetarian version for one of us.
Recommend the set course and the matched wine option if you're looking for a special night out.
Thanks Steph for adding entertainment to our meal.
A.
Great food, great staff nice place to dine.

Can’t say enough good things about our experience at Bistronomy last night. We were celebrating our 17th Wedding Anniversary and so wanted that “something special”, and we were not disappointed. Excellent service during the whole experience (special thanks to Bethany). Started with a complementary bubbly which always sets a good tone :) We did the “try everything” degustation, and shared the wine match. Each dish was perfectly presented and tasted superb. Living up to their name, it was indeed all about gastronomy. We took time to “experience” each dish, from the aroma, to the presentation, to the savouring of each mouthful and testing the wine match. Brilliantly matched wines from around NZ and the world. Really enjoyed the creativity present in each dish, not just creative for the sake of it but ingredients that really worked well together. We also noted the careful attention to the “textures” present in each dish and how they combined to add that extra something to each mouthful. This was the first dining experience in Hawkes Bay that we were comparing to places like the French Cafe in Auckland. Extremely impressed. We highly recommend you try Bistronomy and enjoy not just a meal, but a dining experience.
W.
Worth every cent. I had the luck of going there with good company and that combined with the attentive service they provide made my night all too uber. The duty manager went into the detail of explain our dishes as they were brought to our table. The waiters had quite the knowledge about the menu and which wines are best to pair it with and that these days is a rare find and shows that they love what they do.
I am a Chef by profession and it is not very often were I leave a place wanting to come back as I purely believe there are enough restaurants to try without having to repeat any but I'll sure be back, especially for the short rib dish and the chicken mayonnaise👌.
K.
Delicious food and very nice staff and service.
d.
When we sat down and looked at the menu, thought "oh not cheap" but then ordered and WOW!! Amazing food, flavour explosion! My husband uses salt on everything and not once did he even look for the salt.
Don't let the price put you off, it's worth every cent, delicious isn't even a good enough word to describe this place. Just yum!
B.
Went here whilst attending the Art Deco Festival. Nice restaurant in the heart of downtown Napier. Fusion styled menu. Portions are small and a bit on the pricy side. Food tastes good though.
L.
amazing food wonderfull polite wait staff. myself dined with 7 people and meal and service was well timed . would highly recommend this place for any occasion meal . 😍
C.
Amazing tastes, pleasure to try things out of the ordinary. Delicious
B.
If I could give 10 stars I would. My gosh, what a delight, amazing service, master chief food. We will be back and recommending to all. Can't wait till our next visit.
J.
Great, friendly service and delicious food!
S.
Bistronomy has its own identity. We've been going since 2015 whenever we pass by and this place consistently delivers great food without following the latest trends. It's a no-fuss place where it's all about tasty dishes. Dishes are seasonal with great use of local seafood. Staff are well trained to describe the food or how the menu works for first-timers.
M.
Outstanding. Food was 10/10 as was the service. The kingfish ceviche was so good we came back the following night for more. An international staff looked after us and were extremely tolerant. This and Mister D make Napier's dining experience.
M.
The atmosphere is Kiwi chic. The dishes are edgy and delicious, prepared using the finest local ingredients. And the staff are knowledgeable and attentive. I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to everyone who enjoys great food.
Z.
Five stars. We have been touring NZ from Queenstown, Wanaka, Franz Joseph Glacier, Marlborough Sound, Nelson to Napier and this was the BEST dining experience we have had in 3 weeks of eating out. The food is interesting, cooked with respect, balanced and so yummy. The service was knowledgeable, friendly and relaxed. I could happily eat anything from the menu and it's not often you can say that. What a great find.
S.
Gotta be the best chicken and waffles I've ever had.
M.
Lovely restaurant with a god atmosphere. Food was delicious. Best lamb we had in NZ. Try the oysters for a starter, really fresh.
L.
Three of us had the degustation menu, two with paired wine. Fantastic food, beautiful paired wines, really knowledgeable and helpful waitstaff, able to discuss each course and wine. Just an amazing evening.
T.
Amazing. Utterly amazing. Service is top notch, food is a level above everything else around it. Excellent craft beers on the menu. I've only been once but already I am looking forward to my next visit.
R.
Totally relaxed no hurry atmosphere allowing you to set the pace of your dining experience. Attentive staff without that feeling that someone is hovering over your shoulder. Great compilation of ingredients allowing you to 'taste' your meal and enjoy the various flavours. James, thank you and your team for a pleasurable time.
R.
Great food, Great service.
Staff know what they are talking about.
If your in the area this place is not to be missed.
We will be back next time we are in the area.
J.
Paper serviettes you must be joking, your prices you can afford linen.
p.
Menu is a bit confusing we had to ask many questions and we're all normally quite content to order with minimal fuss. Great flavours for most of meal but not what expected. Not enough carbs, not full
H.
Delicious! Attentive staff who make sure your experience is a treat. Food is spectacular and perfect for a special occasion or even just drinks and nibbles. Cocktail list and menu changes regularly which is great 👌🏾
P.
Great steak, well cooked, octopus terrine was well executed, fish of the day was good. Service friendly and tentative not overbearing. However for the $$$ I wouldn't expect store brought mayo on the potato salad and tinned cannellini beans in the cassoulet with the fish. Look we live in a country where it is ok to use raw egg yolks to make mayo. Its not that hard to make cassoulet from scratch with dried cannellini beans.
S.
Everything was absolutely perfect. I never venture far from staple food..Tonight I tried everything I would never usually try.evey single item was delicious. Even the coffee. Highly recommended!!!! Exceptional service too. well done team. thoroughly impressed.
K.
This place is amazing! Maybe a bit pricy, but definitely worth to try it! Tastes are so weirdly mixed, but just amazing! Tried chiefs 6 pics, omg, this was really, really good and worth every cent! Mouthwatering experience you need to try out!
L.
Had an amazing 3 course dinner here on New Year’s Eve. Great food and service. Only down side was that we felt a little rushed at the end because the table was booked again at 20.00
N.
Oh my god. I felt like Bourdain was narrating from the grave last night. The Chef here is an artist. Crafting dish elements that work individually, and then together in your mouth for something else that makes sense, is boss level production. Have the Eat Menu when you visit, and enjoy a 6 hit combo.
D.
Food was good.
We were seated by the kitchen which removes you from the "buzz" of being by the bar. Would have preferred to be out and by the bar with the rest of the patrons.
L.
Ero perfectto. One of the best dining experiences ever! Can not fault anything. Service food wine! Can’t wait to visit Napier again just so I can dine here!!!
C.
We had an amazing meal. Innovative, creative and perfection on a plate. Hope to go back one day soon.
G.
Inviting staff, we'll presented. Had the 6 course chefs dinner. Each course was well described by the staff.
Food was amazing. Would definitely recommend to all.
D.
Excellent service, quality original
dishes. Friendly helpful, atmosphere. Wine is quite expensive but again quality and good range available by the glass. Blankets provided near the door for cooler nights.
I.
BISTRONOMY IS THE BEST RESTAURANT IN NEW ZEALAND. I hope this restaurant sweeps awards up and down the country, it deserves to. Proposed to my fiancee last night in the restaurant, they bent over backwards to make the night perfect. Even James, the head chef and owner operator came out and got involved. These are really sweet and good people. Beyond that the food absolutely world class and the service is perfect. We will be going there regularly from now on. Hawkes Bay is lucky to have this gem of a restaurant here.
R.
Great food good surprises.
Had the pheasant followed by hare and a baked apple.
Hare was not gamey, which was upsetting as that was what I was hoping for.
Baked apple was divine, and my partner had a mandarin dessert, which the pudding was inside the mandarin.
All in all, very exciting and interesting, but missing a few of the points that I was hoping for.
J.
Had an amazing night here. Food was fantastic, we had the 9 course with wine match. It was so much fun trying to work out what was in each course before we were told. Again, had a wonderful night.
k.
Best dining experience in NZ right now. Beautiful flavours, wine and service
F.
The place we go every time we are in the Bay area. Amazing food, atmosphere and staff. Been to this place a few times now and always such a pleasant experience. Almost worth driving all the way from Auckland to dine here.
r.
Exceptional in all aspects, aside from food and design I haven't seen a remarkable service like what we experienced at this establishment.
Well done guys.
J.
Great meal! Crazy value, the whole menu is delicious. Highly recommended. Best food in the bay?
d.
Great night. Good atmosphere, great service. Must book if you want a table. We were seated at bar but we enjoyed the company of the staff.

M.
An amazing culinary experience! We had the 6 courses discovery menu and we were blown away course after course! Amazing staff too! A night that we'll remember. Thanks.
C.
It was ok... Got seated at the last table next to the toilet... Not their fault even though I did book well in advance... Food was good but seemed simple.. I wi go again and hopefully change my review as it's a nice place and the staff are really good...
P.
Incredible menu, had chefs dinner, ate and enjoyed things that I would never usually order, definitely going back :)
P.
A symphony of culinary delight with a wine and beer list to match. The staff are incredible too, friendly, courteous and highly knowledgeable of the local produce. Definitely addicted.
T.
Amazing food and service, great place to eat, good vibes and good staff. Theres an area where you can see the chefs work. Also great cocktails
D.
Food was fantastic, Marketing needs to be looked at, whoever they got to do the job of sign writing for the restaurant needs to be sacked. Really amateur graphics inside and out. Spent 30 min looking for it. Would pay to use a professional. Will go again now we can find.
O.
Great food, friendly hosts. The only critique would be colder sparkling water. A+
H.
Professional and friendly staff, amazing menu, interesting interior design and good presentation. Portions are small but you have many choices of bites, salads and starters as well as desert to accompany the main.
X.

(Translated) Great, cool downtown restaurant. Friendly service and very creative cuisine. The Bistronomy does not have to shy away from the comparison with starred kitchens. And that at moderate prices. For three courses including cocktail, wine, espresso and, as always in NZ, water from the house, we paid $ 100. Highly Recommended!

Absolut empfehlenswert!
