My husband and I decided to drop by this estate for lunch because we heard it was the oldest estate in NZ and it was just a tourist stop that had to be made. We weren’t expecting the food to be good but we were pleasantly surprised! Food was really amazing. I highly, highly recommend the truffle cheese bread. I couldn’t stop myself from gobbling it down. The lamb was also very good. We had a couple of drinks to go with it. Simply delicious! And after that we spent some time taking pictures around the estate. You can also do wine tasting here but we skipped it as we had a long travel ahead of us. Overall, great place to dine and relax among friends. The view is just beautiful. Makes whatever you’re eating much more delicious ;)

Beautiful venue, very friendly staff and delicious food. We had a booking for 7 people at 6:30 pm on 27th of December but arrived an hour earlier, decided to change our booking which they helped us with a very warm and welcoming smile. Both who attended our table were extremely helpful, patient and friendly. Thanks for excellent customer service and great experience.

** Warning - very long review. Where do I start.. we have ordered 1. Blue cheese souffle. 2. The squid entry 3. Medium rare beef steak 4. Chips as sides 5. Brulee 6. Lemon tart. The souffle was just a melt in mouth experience, it comes with this jam like sauce which enhanced the taste of the souffle. The squid was very flavorsome yet gentle which was really nice start for the meal. The beef steak... The best steak I haven ever had. The sauce and other was great as well maybe not as great as other fine dining place I have visited but still very tasty and top notch quality. But the steak, the best I ever had in my life... Never would thought the steak can "melt in your mouth".. so juicy and tender, non of chewy business. I could just visit Napier again just to have this dish. Brulee and lemon tart too were amazing. Not too sweet or sour, everything was well balance and tasty. The tart was definitely house baked/made of cour along with all other stuff they would have served.. just wow with everything I had. With very kind staff and wonderful dining environment and experience. I thought I would provide my very first long and detailed google review to this restaurant. Definitely worth everything. Marvellous for our 47th Anniversary. Succulent meal and entrée ( salt n pepper squid!!) Very busy, no wonder. Covid protocols. Great service, helpful staff, positive dialogue, helpful description s of wine and food choice. Excellent timing of meal delivery. Nice hot plates. Had the lot! Coffee out on the lawn to finish. Thanks to Ricky (top chef) and Hannah ( top manager) I compliment how you complement each others professionalism. Having wined and dined in 12 countries in PC ( Pre Covid ) days this was as good as it gets!

Been here quite a few times, with and without little kiddies, and the service and food are always excellent. Highly recommended when you're in the Bay. I would recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment. Vaccine pass is required upon entry.

We went here for dinner for my partners birthday, after having been there for a wine tour earlier in the day. The photo is of a board of pitite fours that we ate before I decided a picture was necessary for a review - an unexpected and special gesture. The food? Delicious. The service? The food here is spectacular, all the dishes had varying textures and used good quality ingredients, the lamb was tender and juicy, potatoes were cooked through but not overdone, and cauliflower mash was creamy and had a nice truffle oil finish. The food is all very fatty though - everything has added oil which is a bit much if you aren't used to eating such rich food like myself. Still 5 stars though - they were very busy on a public holiday, yet all our food arrived at the same time and took only around 10 mins to arrive. Worth going back to for a special occasion.

The food was delicious as usual! The service could be better. I’d recommend having one or two servers per table. Our meal was interrupted an awful lot because we had multiple waiters who weren’t communicating with each other. Food came without cutlery. Once we got cutlery some of the food was cold and needed reheating. We were given the wrong bottle of wine and waited about half an hour for the correct one. The staff were nice and friendly though.

We celebrated our Golden Wedding with a superb meal here. Able to sit outside on a lovely late afternoon everything was bang on right through a difficult menu choice (that looks tempting; or maybe this one but how about this other one?) Decisions, decisions, right down to the single malt whisky, "peat reek", smokey, phenolic - there's a clue as to what Islay whisky it was.

What a stunning place and not to mention the food! To complete the memorable day, the restaurant staff were outstanding! Had the most delicious meal today with my Hubble & big Sis after a tasting with Trevor. Stunning is the word that comes to mind. Sat under the decorative grape vine, waited on by the loveliest of staff who were so helpful & pleasant. Recommend this experience to anyone visiting Hawkes Bay.

Situated in the old Mission Estate seminary facing the vineyard and views over Napier Hastings you can expect to be served a plate of magic food that perfectly matches the superb wines on offer. The last time we went was two years ago and for two years I was a raving fan. So last Saturday we went again with large expectations and a hunger for great food. Our night started with the drink order, which ended with "Oh sorry we are out of champagne, but what about a sparkling Riesling". Ok, things like this can happen. So it is a warm summer night, our water glasses were empty within 10 minutes. Despite a large army of waiters and bar staff, the glasses were only refilled with prompting. The starters were served and indeed they were good, really good. Just before the mains were served, the next wine was served and decantered in front of us, while serving the wine got dribbled over the white linen, without apologies or anything. The mains being served and one of the waitresses comes to us to explain that the kitchen stuffed up the food and we have to wait another 10 minutes with half of the mains on the table. It was worth waiting for the wagyu steaks. But then the lamb who were ordered on suggestion by the kitchen medium rare - got served in excess of well done. The cheese platter for two was good, but very minimalistic. The tiramisu was just not there, where it should be. So we left with slight disappointment as the service didn't improve. But the bill was a grand. Last disappointment of the night was the promised dial a driver, which apparently doesn't operate any longer. Your problem to get home.

On a recent trip with 7 other adults we went to the Misson for lunch. We were sat outside under a covered deck on an overcast, windy, somewhat chilly day. We had to ask for the gas heater to be put on, even though it was nearby. No parking was available and the walk up the steep hill was alot for two in our party. Five of us ordered the beer battered fish and were disappointed (it caused some discussion) on the huge variation in both portion size and the fact they served broken fillets. The fish was tasty but no two meal sizes were remotely similar. We felt if you are bringing 5 identical dishes put they should look reasonably uniform in portion size. Waiting staff stood around chatting just off the verandah and had to be asked for drink refills, especially water for the designated driver. Not the experience we expected for an above average priced restaurant. Wouldn't rush back.

What a lovely historical venue with fantastic vistas and most importantly great food. The garlic bread with blue cheese butter was sublime. These guys really know how to cook a steak, with fillets done to rare perfection. The pan seared snapper with wine jus did not disappoint either. Salad and cooked veges were fresh and excellent with lively dressings that gives you brief thoughts of being vegetarian. Panacotta with Expresso was a fantastic way to finish the meal, though the Eden Mess was also very tempting. Staff were incredibly helpful, efficient and a joy to have serve us. They are all amazing people.

We had a lovely meal here last Sunday no complaints about the food or drink or service for that matter but as they are doing extensive renovations to the downstairs dining rooms we had to go up stairs to a smaller dining room. The problem with this is my Husband on crutches found the narrow stairs very difficult. Had we been notified at the time of booking we would have gone somewhere else and returned when the renovations were complete. The people at the table next to us were not very happy also. For this reason I have only given 4 stars

Nice setting, friendly and attentive staff, but expensive food that is just so so. We have been to the Mission Estate two times now and each time we were disappointed with our food. The soup was bland and not served with any bread. Some of my vegetables were burnt. And the meat was really tough. So if you want to go and walk around and read all about the history under the many pictures, that is really interesting. The staff are friendly and attentive. People seem to really like the wine. Lovely grounds to walk around. There is a lot of great history here. That all being said, I notice that most of the good reviews about the food took place with people having wine; maybe that is the key.

This is one of those must visit places in the Hawkes Bay area. It is a throw back to earlier times and has a wonderful aura. Great service seems to be a hallmark. The Mission is already well known for its fantastic outdoor dining experiences, and great food. I'm pleased to say that that food is now even better. With the hiring of a new head chef three weeks ago, there is a definite step up in the quality and decadence at the mission. The food was among the absolute best I have ever encountered. If you have the opportunity to go to the mission... Do it. Also the staff and atmosphere is spot on for a great experience overall. I can't give praise too high. Fantastic!

First time I've ever been disappointed at The Mission. One heavy muffin and piece of chocolate cake and a cuppa for $15. Apparently it was excellent last year with a selection of mini things. Oh well it's still a nice venue, with good service.

The creme brulee was really disappointing, the texture was great but it was so boozy it was like eating a shot. The caramelised sugar on the top was ridiculously thick! It was inedible(See photo) Our whole table was laughing about me struggling to get through it. There is only one vegetarian main which was disappointing, it was delicious though! But it meant half our table had to order the same main :(

Nearly always the food and service are excellent. My only negative comment is that when I walk into the dining are I smelt fish which I am allergic to. Fixable but hard to do. Also the wooden floor noise bounce makes conversations hard to hear.

Nice place, beautiful setting: as with other restaurants and accommodation in the Hawke's Bay. The only thing that lets this place down is the arrogant attitude of SOME of the staff. The food is good, but the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. Take a page out of Craggy's book, where the team wants to help, learn and advise.

Napier is famous for old school architecture beautiful buildings and I went with my family to Mission estate winery tasted few wines and was lifetime experience and had few nibbles in the restaurant too . Would highly recommend!

While my friend enjoyed the Sunday Roast Chicken dish, I thought my fish of the day dish was pretty average. I ordered tiramisu dessert which came with blueberries, strawberries and lavender, which killed the whole buzz of the dish. Also the music playing in the background was from a phone connected via bluetooth to a speaker and everytime that phone got a message via social media we could hear familiar pinging in between music.
