This is a must visit when you are in Napier. The staff are friendly and very attentive. Great atmosphere and drinks and the food is absolutely beautiful. The best food hands done we have had while being in Napier.
d.
Sea front restaurant adapted from original house. Some of the original features have been kept making an interesting setting. Select meal options for pair with wine and main courses. Food was nicely presented. Comfortable décor.
F.
The set menu was amazing, we have always wanted to try this restaurant and are so glad we did!
S.
The food was innovative and artfully presented. I love that the menu reflects what is fresh and tasty and changes frequently. The service was also excellent. The decor of the restaurant is just not to my taste, and the clashing blacks and reds, absolutely everywhere just detract from the exquisite plates of food.

This is the first time I have tried food set menus / degustation by high class chef. I guess it boils down to how much you may and what you expect. I wasn’t sure what to expect. Reservations are a must.
The set course changes often. I started with the home made bread and butter and this was nice. With a mix of honey this felt different.
Then came the entrees and I can’t remember their names but the soup was nice. The main was rib eye steak if I remember correctly. The dessert was stewed apple with chocolate n honey crumble I think. Apologies I can’t. Remember the menu exactly. I didn’t take the wine pairing but did have drinks. The total bill was 111$ for person.. I find that to be quite expensive. I would have expected to for it to b under 100$. If I remember correctly it was 80$ for a 3 course meal with no wine pairing and 120$ with wine pairing.
The ambience was nice and so were the staff.
Anyways this is a one off experience and provided you have a big budget especially if you are with family.. special occasions I would say.. the reason for 3 stars is due to the cost. Otherwise the food is definitely 4 - 4.5 stars for taste..
S.
High quality dining experience in a relaxed atmosphere. Food quality was outstanding. Cater to all different food allergies and types (ie vegetarian). Fantastic French and NZ wine list. Would be hard to find better in Napier.
G.
Interesting delicious food, much of it seafood-based. Pleasant staff. Decor a bit dated.
S.
We had a nice time, good was mostly very good but not exceptional, both mains used a lot of the same ingredients so
C.
We dined for at least 3 hours, food was incredible and nice atmosphere.
R.
This was awesome! Great service and 100% delicious food. Thank you
J.
Would like to have known that the menu is degustation only, no a la carte, food was good, service a little to fast to my liking, so had to ask to slow down, white wines to cold.
P.
Friendly service, food quality outstanding, I loved the different French flavors.
L.
Oh my goodness - the food took me straight back France, so deliciously presented with a beautiful family hospitality vibe. Thank you so much. Bon Appétit...#cardronadistillery, #goodfood, #Napier,

We have just had our wedding service & reception at Poivre et Sel. Sevi was most professional at her execution of the placement and service etiquette. However it was Sam the chef who was outstanding in his execution of the menu. The food was tantalizing the palette throughout the set menu. The table service was provided flawlessly by Sevi & Sam's son & daughter.I cannot speak highly enough of this family owned and operated business. 5 plus in my book. This is a dining experience must.
R.
Have been twice now and both times were wonderful. Atmosphere is really nice and authentic, it's fancy but still friendly. Food is amazing, it's creative, gorgeous to look at and backed up by stunning flavours for all courses. Highly recommend!
W.
Just lovely. Small, very authentic. Run by a French couple. Delightful set price menu that changes monthly. Not over priced. Really, really, really lovely food, beautifully presented and with good, proficient, personal service. Interesting wine matches, if you want to. Bravo!
T.
This is a 10/10 french dining experience. The atmosphere, food & service was amazing. Definitely will be back.
G.
Absolutely loved my dinner tonight. Lovely service, entree of Octopus was melt in the mouth; Main of Market Fish was sublime. Great additions were the amuse bouche and the homemade bread with the devine whipped butter. Cannot wait to come back. Napier little hidden gem in the cuisine scene!
M.
Great atmosphere, great host, we had the main and dessert, definitely worth it. Presentation and taste was amazing. A wonderful experience and you definitely dont leave feeling hungry.
C.
We are locals and recently dined here for the first time. Limited menu but several options that sounded really nice, and it was nice to have a vegetarian main option that wasnt a gnocchi or lasagne!
The food was excellent - the maple butter and home baked bread were an interesting but delicious combo, and I loved the hazelnut bubble dessert.
Unfortunately the service let them down a bit. We arrived quite hungry but didn't manage to put our order in till we had been there for at least 30 minutes (despite the waitress saying she would be back soon to take our order), and didn't get our first bit of food (the bread) till we had been there an hour. Our waitress was wearing activewear which seemed a bit bizarre and incongruent with the quality of the food served. The decor could do with being updated as it's still in the rustic mid-2000s style that Mint (the restaurant previously in this building) had.
Overall we left very happy though and would definitely go back
M.
We had a good time out here tonight but the price didn't match the quality of the meal. It was nice to have a selection of local wines but would have liked a bit more info or recommendations on what to try. Sangria special was very nice and I have never had sangria with peach schnapps but it was yummy so who cares. Waite staff a bit awkward.
J.
Terrific food- lovely service- go try you wont be disappointed.
Try the Pomme Verte it's amazing- clever chef👨🍳
S.
Thank you for a delicious meal, everything was thoughtfully cooked and beautifully presented. Your restaurant came highly recommended and did not disappoint.
(Joy with the grumpy 1* review, we are so glad you left and took your unpleasantness with you! When you are both 100kgs+ you have to expect chairs to creak.)
Would not hesitate to recommend Poivre & Sel and we will definitely be back.
r.
We dined here last week with a group of eight.
The service and food was outstanding. All meals arrived together and were absolutely beautiful.
Thanks for a lovely evening.
Nice to have a Restaurant with a bit of class.
P.
I always like to leave a positive review. Trouble is if they're all positive how do you make one special? I'd give 6 stars if I could. The food is as good as anywhere in Auckland. And they made an effort to accommodate a special guest. My only regret was that we didn't have time for dessert. The starters of salmon and scallops were fantastic. Followed by exceptional lamb and beef. Highly recommended.
S.
French fine dining. Food we had was a mix some courses were superb and others a little lacking. Dessert was amazing. Wines great and they allowed a sample before choosing. The way you have to order in set menu's is a bit off putting especially when you a small eater and want 2 entrees you can have but you have to pay the bigger cost. Would go again but only for special occasion as opposed to regular dining. Overall pleasant.
J.
Unexpected but very satisfying experience. Great food, great service considering it was full and super busy. One of the best value for money possibly in north island or even the whole country. Loved the escargot and the best octopus dish in a long time! Just try if you are around this town.
A.
Best restaurant in Whitianga. Wholesome, fresh, seasonal food with a French twist. Thoughtful French wine list or full local wine list if that's your preference. Staff very attentive and kind. Will certainly come back.. actually, can't wait to come back!
D.
Great food and excellent service!!
R.
Outstanding food and service. Smaller menu but everything on the menu is excellent. Very good wine list. Lovely table settings. This restaurant would be considered excellent in any city. What a find in Whitianga. Highly recommended.
S.
Amazing food with a modern French influence (but not saddled by classic French cooking that's heavy on the buyer and cream). Friendly staff. Had great conversation with the proprietor. Nice setting. Highly recommended.
T.
An absolute delight, the food was exceptional. It is fine dinning served with French flair.
Service was amazing.
Would highly recommend,
Wish you guys all the best.
J.
Beautiful food and excellent service. Definitely a top restaurant experience equal to the best in this country. Reasonably priced for regular dining out, but fitting for the special occasion also.
J.
Absolutely brilliant. One of the best rib eye steaks I have ever had. A lovely atmosphere and the service was great. A must if you are going to Whitianga and would like proper fine dining.
M.
Truly delicious food in a very elegant but unpretentious setting. Service is great, but it's the food - try the salmon 3 ways, the eye fillet and the cheeseboard. Perfectly cooked and beautifully presented.
T.
We had Christmas Dinner here, and wow what a fantastic place the food was absolutely fantastic and the atmosphere was amazing. This restaurant is by far one of the nicest we have been to in a long time. Just check out the photos!
P.
We have been fortunate to have great meals at a number of restaurants in the Bay. Tonight we dined at Poivre et Sel and it matched and exceeded our previous experiences. I have absolute confidence in recommending this restaurant.
D.
Just pure opulence, the food was faultless and the staff was very helpful too in explaining the workings of the restaurant and the dishes.
j.
Awesome french restaurant in whitianga. Beautiful amuse bouche, delicious entrees of scallops and pork belly. Perfectly cooked eye fillet and fresh bouillabase for mains. Good size portions, exceptional presentation, perfectly matched wines.
Waitress/ manager was lovely- great knowledge about the wines and food without pretention.
We would highly recommend this restaurant
C.
We had an amazing evening. All cooked to perfection, amazing range of French wines matched with each dish. Hope to go again next time we visit Napier.
G.
A different experience food well presented little up-market for me but very nice place e

When you visit Poivre et Sel don't go if you're into fast food and have someplace else to be in a hurry. The service is fantastic, and Severine seems to have an ability to tune in to what you need to make your dinner special. It's a dining experience. Samuel is in the kitchen creating a culinary masterpiece. We met them for the first time when we dined on our 20th wedding anniversary, but by the end of the evening it had become more than just an exceptional meal. It was a very personal experience and we felt cared for and treated to the best. Little special treats keep arriving, delicious, complimentary and not on the menu.
The wine selection is superb, the setting, whether inside or outside in the courtyard, is intimate without being cramped.
A fabulous experience and highly recommended.
A.
Small exclusive menu, but you will find something whatever you like or not, what you get will be 11/10. Superb, wine match the same
D.
Incredible food! The most memorable meal we've had in ages.
T.
Lovely meal, excellent service. The cheese platter we had to finish the meal was one of the best I've ever had.
Highly recommended!
H.
Absolutely incredible! I am lucky to have dined around the world and can say the octopus was truly world class. Highly recommend this establishment for its decadent food, great wine and excellent service.
S.
Service by owner was horrible had a couple in our group not able to make it ( something came up about 10 minutes before our reservation) and when we told staff the owner came over and growled us for not having all the people there, raising her voice so other tables could hear, although the food was delicious it totally ruined our experience and the whole night became unpleasant and awkward as she was our waitress. Have also had friends go their and be treated rudely by her aswell
Edited to say *you have the wrong person i do not work for batch care
B.
Great meal with great ingredients.
Eclectic service made the whole evening really enjoyable.
If you are looking for great food at a reasonable price this is a must.
D.
Well well well, the best meal I've enjoyed eating. Every course was perfection. Expertly wine matched. I doubt I'll ever enjoy salmon that good again.
W.
A small town restaurant should not be this great....but it is. Hey, everything wasn't perfect but the effort was still better than many big name establishmentsbin the big cities. Small pecadilloes make for enjoyable nights and the food was magnifique!!!! Thanks.
n.
it has been said many times before: food is amazing, service is very professional and friendly, and the 'décor' is very impressive
I will add that the prices are really not that high compared to the quality of food, I have been in much more expensive restaurants in France for just the same culinary experience or even less
and yes, you are served small portions but this is French fine cuisine, it's not in the quantity; and again, I define myself as a big eater (or a glutton, to be more 'chic') and I was full after a tasty complementary amuse bouche (salmon), a surprising entree (pork belly) and a exquisite main (bouillabaisse); the chef beautifully accomodated our dietary requirements
last piece of advice: bookings essentials, best to dine on a week day, low season is less busy
Enjoy your French experience in the middle of the Coromandel!
L.
Great food and friendly staff. A little disorganised, but charming. Diffinately worth visiting for fine dining and good wine.
J.
Fabulous food and service, very French. Just lovely for a special occasion.
H.

A real gem in Whitianga! Truly family run from kitchen to front of house, with excellent food and wines and a real personal touch. Look forward to the next visit!
J.
The food here is the best. I think about my dining here for a few days afterwards. It is truly a real experience and quality service. Always go here for special occasions.
g.
A little expensive, but it made me feel like I was in Paris again. When they say "fine dining" they mean "haute cuisine". Definitely worth it 🙂

(Translated) Excellent French restaurant, all the flavors of France. Very nice atmosphere with a nice decor very cozy where we feel good. Everything is perfect, congratulations to the chef for his cooking and his wife for the atmosphere and decor. But beware the restaurant is now in NAPIER since November 1, 2019, so book quickly your table for a nice evening and successful.
