This restaurant was such value for money. The meals were massive and so delicious. This would have to be my new favorite restaurant in Napier and we can't wait to go back there again. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They had lots of people in the restaurant with Christmas functions and they still managed to get our main meals with in 15 mins. We were more than happy with our meals and the overall experience. Thank you The Duke of Gloucester for such an amazing meal.

Good range on the menu and all tasty, followed by a good drop. Only gripe I had was I asked for a medium rare steak and got well done, not ideal for spending $40 on this dish alone. I would go back though, the atmosphere is good.

My husband and I went here for lunch on Saturday 27 November. We had a Tapas share meal, ours consisted of beer battered fish bites with tartar sauce , pork belly bites with smokey BBQ sauce , chicken tenders coated in Mexican spices with a garlic aoli and the last dish was camenbert, crostinies and a plum sauce. We were impressed with the portion sizes we didn't think we would get through but we did it was too yummy to waste. Thanks team we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Keep up the great work.

Group of 8 to celebrate a birthday. Food was good however at 8pm we became invisible. Staff not to be sighted. Only about 3 tables still eating or drinking however service appeared to have ceased for the evening. After vainly trying to get the attention of the one staff member who was cleaning empty tables I finally got up and went to the counter where a staff member was behind the till. Asked him where was the service and was asked " do you want dessert " . Told him we were wanting drinks! With hospitality businesses stating they are struggling due to covid19 would expect better attention to both food and service.

We are long time patrons of "THE DUKE" and for good reason. We have never been disappointed with any aspect of our visits. We can always get a park and not have a distance to walk to get into the venue. Quite often right outside the door. The bar and facilities are excellent and always getting better. The gaming room has been recently updated and the TAB (my favourite) is friendly and familiar. We love the food so much we even go there for our Christmas Dinner. Awesome. They have all the normal specials, but the menu suits pretty much anyone and I've tried pretty much everything. The steak is my favourite and is exceptional. I ask for medium rare and that is exactly how it comes. Every time. However, sometimes I have a bit of trouble fitting in my dessert. The bar has brilliant staff and all my favourite drinks and they do let us run a tab so that we only have to pay once, at the end of our visit. All together and superb venue that I am sure we will be visiting regularly for years to come. Good work you guys and gals at the Duke. Brian and Christine

Lovely place, great atmosphere. However ordered a salad that was advertised as gluten free and dairy free and sadly it came with bread croutons. When the error was mentioned to the waitress she was dismissive and abrupt. She offered no apology or explanation. Staff understanding of allergies and their repercussions needs addressing.

Awesome kids packs kept my girls busy during dinner. A good selection of kids combo meals, the sundaes were a decent size too. We had pasta of the day(creamy seafood) and Mexican salad. Both very nicely cooked and full of flavour. The brownie for dessert is super delicious- chewy outside, soft inside, and packed full of cocoa. From past experience I dont expect much from a pub restaurant, so it was a nice surprise to see such a high standard set by their chefs. Also very reasonably priced.

Had dinner here last night. Service was very friendly and easy going. Food was brisk and perfect pub grub - generous portions, went well with beer & wine, simple yet wholesome flavours. I had the rump steak which is a tasty but tricky cut to handle and the kitchen did a great job. Fish isn’t the freshest which was on the borderline of being not good, so a little More care should be taken here. However good marks for creativity with a macadamia nut crust. Unfortunately the meatball pasta on the kids menu was stodgy - improvement might be needed here. Overall had a great time. Will be back again.

I've driven past plenty of times but haven't been in before now. The front is fairly unassuming but it hides a spacious and comfortable interior. Plenty of drinks on offer and an expansive menu. There's fantastic outdoor seating as well. Since my first visit I've already been back twice!

Tasty lunch! We started with the (massive) bowl of house pork crackling, which was reminiscent of chicharrones, but a little lacking in flavour by itself; it'd make a great drinking snack, however. For mains, I tried the prawn personal pizza, and my partner ordered the double Duke burger. The pizza was a delight, with one of the most balanced and delicious topping combinations I've ever had, on a thin, crispy, and yet still light and chewy base. I want to try more of their menu offerings in future, but it'll be hard to go past this pizza! The burger was stacked, but the flavour profile was less interesting: patties were ok, bacon was ok, cheese was ok, sauces were a little bland (or possibly just not plentiful enough to compete with the other ingredients' large serving sizes)... I think it needed something acidic or vegetable-y to elevate it, but my partner enjoyed the meaty monstrosity, and we both agreed that the side of beer battered chips were incredible. Service from our waitress Kimi was top notch. I'll definitely be back, and bring some mates (looking forward to trying out the tapas selection).

My wife and I had a grab one voucher for the Flinstone steak and headed down there last Wednesday night . There were quite a few patrons dining, and the two young waitresses looked busy . We were seated promptly. Our drinks were brought out, entrees were yum , and I must say the Flinstone steaks were cooked to perfection. I was so impressed I even thanked the chefs :) Oh, and you must try the desserts, they come out on a trolley so you can see exactly what you are getting - we settled for a Kahlua cheescake which was delicious. Service - 10, Food - 10 Atmosphere -10 Well done to the Duke !
