Gin. What more can I say? This place is great. Go in expecting a gastro pub but with gin instead of craft beer. Food was great, gin was better. Had the Duck Leg, Steak Salad and Kids Fish & Chips. All were good, but the kids meal was surprisingly good. Had the New Zealand Flight gin taster which went down a treat. Service was good, staff was friendly and responded well to requests. Overall a great experience.

Very busy restaurant and service was good, they were very welcoming and we felt at home. We also enjoyed the snapper and duck thigh.

Had a great meal here. Excellent food and service, had the fish of the day - Hapuka, which was delicious. Water was constantly refreshed and prompt drinks service. Was very impressed. When I complimented the waitress to the desk manager on departure, I was told, it was the waitresses first day! 👏 Hope her service skills are infectious, as getting exceptional food and service at the same time can be rare! Highly recommended!

A little expensive, and the view of the harbour is ok. If you're looking for Gin, I'd definitely give it a try, but for a casual drink I'd recommend going to the other bars around.

We have been going to the Gintrap for a number of years, and it has been our go-to for an easy lunch in the sun. The outdoor space is amazing with great views over the marina. The menu is a little hit and miss and is starting to show its age, not sure if the chef has changed but it is lacking the fresh flavors it used to have with a lot of fried food. The service however is very good.

Great spot in the sun on the deck after work. Staff made sure we were well looked after and didn't go dry!! Took the family for dinner tonight and I must say we were underwhelmed! The food took an hour before we got our starters and another 20 for the mains. Some of the food was great and some was quite average considering the cost. Gin was good though. Need to work a bit on service

Had a girls dinner here and just have to say the food and service was unbelievable! Taste of Paris cocktail was delish and the Salt n Pepper Squid was the best I've ever had and I order that dish everywhere I go. Can't wait to come back again. Gintrap have really upped their game. Thank you!

This was such a great place. Recommend to us as a place to stop during our visit to Napier we are very pleased we did. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable about the gins. Loved the gin platters and the mariner platter to eat was exceptional. Highly recommend 👌

Great vibe and huge selection of gins, helpful staff with advice on pairings. Gin + tonic come in enormous glasses. Great location, right on the waterfront. Don't bother with the bar snacks though as they are overpriced and aren't that nice either (we had dumplings and prawns). An Uber ride from Napier CBD was $13 so you don't have to drive!

Excellent spot for a drink on a sunny day. Great drinks recommendation from our waiter, the strawberry gin was amazing. The food quality and menu needs a bit of work however, we didnt enjoy our food and it wasnt cheap either.

Booked a table online for our 30th wedding anniversary. Asked for a table near the window for the view , and thats what we got :) The wait staff were amazing, very attentative . The duck thigh and t bone steak were cooked to perfection and the baileys cheesecake was the best we have ever tasted . 10/10 for the food and presentation ! Thanks for making our night special. What a great spot next to the small craft harbour in Napier, this restaurant is definitely a 5 star establishment from their service to their delicious food and not forgetting their Gin cocktails. We definitely will be returning to the Gin Trap on our next holiday to Napier.

Suggested to us by our excellent Airbnb hosts Kathy and Brent. The duck confit on creamy mash potatoes with steamed spinach and the perfect roasted shallots and crispy bacon. The apple tart was lovely but the chocolate and mint was not necessarily needed. The wines were well selected, but the gin menu and selection is the largest I’ve ever witness.

We came by for a fairly large post-wedding gathering and had the back room reserved. The place looked quite nice but it was a bit hard finding parking in the area. The bar had a huge range of different gins and tonics. I ended up trying the flight, 3 different gins to try with one tonic. The main area was quite cosy with a fire going and the menu online looked quite interesting. Turns out that because we were a large group they could only do some items on the menu, which was fair. Of course, the thing I wanted to try wasn't on it. It wasn't very well organised on both ends so we were there for about an hour or so before any orders were taken. They also only had 2 large tables and there were more people than that. I ended up just going for the pizza. It took about an hour or so for the food to come out. Fortunately, the kids had their meals and desserts at a reasonable time but everyone else was waiting. The food was ok. My friend did go out to check on the food a couple of times but was told that it as coming. I would probably go back for drinks but probably not food.

We love this place. We came here in may from Aust. Love the view and the food so come to the gin trap every friday. Its a great place to meet friends for a night out on the deck. This place is so awesome to visit and doesn't dissapoint. Would highly reccomend spending the money and getting the t bone steak, is a massive meal that is absolutely amazing. Everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their meals and would highly reccomend giving this place a go!

Waited 50mins for a piece of flatbread for our entree, and over an hour for our 4 mains, although others that arrived after us got served before us. When we complained we were told it was because we ordered the bread, and when we asked why the bread took so long, we were told it's because that oven is small and the bread is popular. If you'd told us we wouldn't have ordered it! We only got it because we were hungry and wanted something before our meals came! The food was ok, but the steak at least definitely was not worth the price charged. There's a lot of other choices in the same area, we'll be going somewhere else next time.

A brilliant spot to relax at the end of the day and watch the sun set over the marina immediately over the road. Sitting outside on the deck is a must. Clearly a popular spot with locals and visitors from the motels a few minutes walk south. Our service was friendly, prompt and meals were tasty. Seafood chowder was a winner.

This is the first time we had been to the GinTrap. I booked a table for my husband's birthday. Got a great table looking towards the estuary and roadway. The food and cocktails were great. They were very busy this Sunday and it took a little time between courses, but that suited us. We could watch the muscle cars driving through, and boats on the waterway. We are definitely going back again. The staff were all friendly and helpful.

Cajun chicken fettuccine, nice but more Chicken Alfredo as nothing particularly Cajun tasting. Good to follow waitress's suggestion to have gin with plain tonic otherwise risk having a drink tasting like a fruit cocktai mixing infused gin with infused tonic. Service attentive without being intrusive. Well managed.

This is an amazing restaurant, I was truly impressed. Wonderful staff who were attentive and very friendly. It was lovely and warm thanks to the fire even though there had been a power cut before we arrived. The meals were delicious to the point were I ate twice as much as I should have. They also provided well for my toddler and baby with simple food cooked to perfection for the kids menu. My husband's comment was "You know it's a great steak when you can cut it up with a butter knife."

I have an allium allergy. This is the first restaurant I hv bn to since moving to the Bay that has gone to so much trouble for me. My lamb rack was truly divine. The presentation was awesome. One of our favourite local restaurants / bars. Excellent in the summer sitting on the deck sipping a beer watching the sun go down. Also excellent in the winter with the big fire by the bar. Squid with Chilli Mayo, Peanut Relish & Mesclun is a small addiction of mine so always heading back for some of that on a regular basis. Last year we watched some of All Blacks matches in the UK there during the morning. Hoping that maybe some World Cup matches will be showing there this year. Very friendly staff and we always feel well looked after when we are there.

Despite fairly high prices even by New Zealand standards, the management here are too stingy to let customers use WiFi. Waitress used the old "oh, its to stop people sitting on their phones" excuse which I found insulting since I just wanted to google something in our conversation, not sit on my phone and I don't have a New Zealand SIM as I'm on holiday. Just be honest and say "We are too stingy to share with paying customers or too lazy to change the password periodically. A good idea would be to call the SSID 'office' instead of 'Gintrap'........and also put a cell blocker if you are all so concerned about people using their phones since locals were using their phones all around us. One of the three ladies who were serving, with short hair and glasses has no peripheral vision, we were waving our arms 10degrees from her 12 o'clock, we thought she saw as she looked, then she walked towards us ...... then over to other people, plus failed to hear. Anyway, the food made up for the poor service. Seafood soup was perfect, prawn salad was amazing. I loved the mushroom risotto balls even though they were a bit too salty. Bravo chef, boo to the three waitresses and manager/owner for the service and lack of WiFi. That alone made us move on immediately after our meal so you missed out on 6 beers just because of petty stingyness; think about that.
