A friendly welcome from the young man at the bar convinced our large group to dine upstairs in spite of a lowish number of guests. The chicken fettuccine was absolutely delicious 😋 definitely worth coming here.

First time there. AMAZING food. Lived up to what I had been told. Loved the atmosphere, rustic and relaxed. Great service, exceptional food. Great menu choices.

We love the food here, that's why we keep coming back. Staff look a bit disinterested though. We sat outside for dinner and a staff member started stacking outdoor chairs around us (rude) . It was 7:30 - 8ish? Seemed like they wanted us to leave,. so we didn't stay for dessert as it felt too awkward being there.

We had lunch and dinner here Friday 26th November. Dinner time was busy but the service was still great, thanks to young Jack for looking after us so well. Food very good, everybody happy, definitely recommend.

Wow the food was amazing last night. Really nice place and the service upstairs was amazing despite it being kind of busy. Definitely will be coming back! Said i would be back! This time I sat downstairs and had the Chicken Parcel which was absolutely delicious. The service was once again great. I was served by a young man called Jack who a great help. The wife and I went here on Sunday 11th August. The wife had the lamb shank and I went with the pork ribs with sides of chips and slaw. We also shared a LOAF OF GARLIC BREAD. I suggest that half a loaf might of been better (HUGE). OMG I loved the food and so did the wife. This might seem like I say this about a lot of places we go to, BUT IF I DONT LIKE THE FOOD YOU WILL BE TOLD. The staff are friendly and helpful and the place looks great. This is just another place for me and the wife to go to. 5/9/2020. The wife and I made our second visit here. YET AGAIN the food was great and the service was amazing. Hannah Rose and Kelsi were the 2 server's who looked after us. Hannah Rose I loved your great sense of humor. And HATS OFF to the chef for an amazing meal. 3/7/21. Another amazing visit. This time for dinner. I had the pork ribs with salad and chips for main and the fruit crumble for dessert, and of course the wife and I shared the garlic loaf to start. Again absolutely awesome food. As I always do I get the names of our servers. Jack Baxter you were a great and happy young man, Kiritia Walia you also gave us great service. Hats of to you both of you. Kiritia enjoy your trips.

Sunday 11 August went here for lunch and OMG what a lunch I had . Came up from Waipukurau and couldn't decide where to go came past and decided to stop here. My husband and I started with a garlic loaf decided on a whole loaf should've got a half but that was alright we got garlic bread for tea😁. I myself had the Lamb shank for my main and OMG you don't need a knife to cut it. It just pulls apart real easy. Kayla was very friendly and polite which made it even more pleasant. Tell you what folks we will definitely be going back and am looking forward to it. 👍👍👍👍👍 Saturday 5 September went for lunch again just like I said I would. This time I had the Seafood Chowder as a starter then Sticky Pork Ribs also had the Garlic Loaf. The two girls that were taking care of us were absolutely marvelous thanks for that Hannah Rose and Kelsi you were both great 👍👍👍👍👍

So happy we chose to come here for dinner rather than the more run-of-the-mill family friendly options. The food and service were great, and prices were reasonable. I'm surprised they weren't more busy - perhaps on the weekend or a game night it's another story.

Just had dinner here. The food was just fabulous. The little sliders a great experience with so many flavours and the squid to die for. The Quisadia’s better than any Mexican restaurant and beautiful steak, second to none anywhere in the world, A great dining experience made better by fabulous service- Thank you Izzy, and Speights, you should be proud!

Pulled pork tacos and chocolate marquis were amazing! The chicken burger was good but buns where over toasted. Service could have been a bit better, not great being left with empty drinks all the time. However would definitely recommend.Had a day traveling to wineries so was a lovely finish. Not too busy and a wide range of beers and ciders. Try the sampler where you get 6 different drinks. Well worth it.

Came in with a group of around 20. Meals were huge, although I've been here a few times, this encounter was different to the other times I've been. While I appreciate you were also catering for another big group, this definitely showed as we were last to be served. Mixed feelings across the table, entrees got mixed up as did desert. I had the pork belly and it was incredibly dry. While this would not stop me from coming back, as a chef myself it's good to get some criticism. The only other problem was we asked for the doors to be opened and they weren't which made it very uncomfortable as it was so muggy. We were the only ones dining downstairs so didn't see an issue.

Pretty bulk standard pub grub, but that's why you'd go there in the first place, right? Service was pretty good although they did appear a little disorganised. This resulted in us being ask yet for orders twice. If that kind of thing bothers you then don't go there. Didn't bother us at all! Marked down a little for not having soy milk for coffee. Shouldn't be any excuses, it doesn't go off like milk unless opened.

It was the greatest!!! So nice to go back there and see the friendly staff who remembered us and came up to welcome us back. How many times would that happen especially when you live 36 kilometers away, and only frequent once in a while. Going back on Tuesday, as our 13year old grandson found out they are open and wants his bday there with nan and papa.Yeah!!! Papa pleased as, as he is a Speights man anyway.😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣.

Took the hockey team for a meal. Portion sizes were meager for hungry boys. Set menu was fair but for that price would have expected more than lettuce tomato and patty on the burgers and more than 3 short ribs for the ribs. Also found the inconsistency of chip servings interesting with one boy with hardly any chips sitting next to another boy with loads of chips. Dessert was cheesecake or brownie, again, size does matter.

We were lucky enough to stumble upon this gem during our stay in Napier; and my partner was like a pig in mud. This place is beautiful, this history referenced in your displays and art is wonderful and not only can you get a great drink but you can enjoy the history behind the brand. The building is tastefully decorated and we found the staff very warm and friendly.

A spur of the moment dinner, quickly seated and served. Tidy and clean venue (don't look under the tablecloth, the easily moved tables are plastic!). A small mix up with the meals, (wrong table) and was perfect to the menu description. Junior staff a little unsure of the desert menu . A+ service and meal.

Poor value for money. This Speight’s Ale House does not stack up to the standards of other ones-have been to Palm North, Queenstown and Dunedin, they all had good serving sizes and quality food . I ordered a chicken salad for a main that was the size of entree, had minimal chicken and basic lettuce and carrot as salad ingredients. I wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t return here . Disappointing 😒

If you want a great view of the Harbour and Sunset views We highly recommend the Top Deck area. ..Simply a great Atmosphere- We were the last to leave and the biggest bonus?... Lovely place, amazing staff and beautiful food. We had this one waiter named Blake who was amazing on every level. He went out of his way to make sure we had a great experience and was real down to earth. He told us about his golf hobbies and how he plays golf in his spare time. Lovely young man with a great future ahead of him.

Where the bat hurts is the wait, 45 minutes for 1 burger and a pan is too much, knowing that the restaurant was far from being full ...
