Very warm welcome, plenty of different spaces to sit. Good variety on the menu including gluten free. We had the steak special which was very delicious, steak was tender & terrific. I had the kiwi pavlova which was scrumptious. Lovely ambience.

Had dinner there tonight. I wish I hadn't. Huge meal, huge flavours, perfectly cooked fish. Young enthusiastic and welcoming staff. Great setting in downtown Nelson. If only every Lone Star was as good as this one. Shame I'm only in Nelson every few years.

Great food ,ambiance & service! One of the very few restaurants in Nelson where we get big portions ! Also to mention their Classic Burrrito , Johnny Cash Stash and Rib-eye steak . Totally loved their Cheesecake & crème brûlée. A special mention to their Butter Garlic Prawn starter . A perfect spot for celebrations !

Had a great meal here. Staff were all very good. Sat us beside open doors which was great because nice warm night. Photo of pan fried fish (Tarakihi) and Lasso of Hogg.

Never a dull meal here! Absolutely wonderful customer service. Warm inside and out! (I had already started eating before taking photo, so mind what's on the side) The ribs are the best I've ever had 😍

Celebrated our anniversary for dinner. Everything from the entree, mains and dessert was endlessly delicious. First time back since lockdown and staff were friendly and superb customer service. Amazing experience and definitely would come back next time 😃

We had dinner. We booked an external table in the dog friendly area. Water bowl ready to go for the little guy when we arrived. Service was excellent and Steve and his team very upbeat and chatty. Food was great.

Good food. Absolutely garbage service. 90 mins to get fed. No warnings, no apologies, not all that busy. Not the fault of the Staff who seemed ok, just poorly managed. Note: the response below is appreciated but that was not me. It was another couple. We got no apology and no discount. I will add a star for taking on feedback.

Primo place for the family to eat out. We rocked in Saturday night had a yummy kai (ribs and chicken nibbles) , they also have friendly staff and no long waits.

Fantastic service and absolutely amazing food! Lone Star Nelson has been a family favourite for years and never disappoints! Such a great atmosphere and very friendly and welcoming staff. One small mistake in a friend's meal but they were very quick to fix it.

Fantastic meal & service as usual. Nice to go out for our first time since lockdown.

First we were a bit skeptical to come back after bad experience, in reality, their service and meals have been improved significantly. We really enjoyed our huge meal, free range baked chicken Johnny Cash, perfectly cooked. Highly recommended. I put weight after that 😉

Here for our honeymoon, the food was amazing food and the service was fantastic. Dixie chicken & Ribs yummy and a non alcoholic Juice Newton topped it all off. They made our final night in Nelson a great experience thank you!! Best Lonestar I've dined at :)

This is not our first visit to Lone Star. We have been here a few times over a couple of years... the food is up and down. Tonight's meals were average. My sirlion steak was a quarter of fat and tough to eat. My husband's hog was ok. Our son was asked if he wanted his meal classic or meduim... we thought it was to do with how spicy hot he wanted, not the size. The staff have always been super friendly and helpful... very efficient. Seems to be busy with customers. Quite loud inside.... not really for a romantic dinner... if one was thinking of that.

Awesome they donated bunch of vouchers to our cricket club for a quiz night. The owner is a stand up guy and food was amazing

Went here for a birthday dinner with the family. Staff was great and everyone loved their dinner. Really comfy atmosphere and the barman certainly looks well after you. A new favorite for me.

Fantastic food! amazing atmosphere, lovely staff/service and very reasonable prices, why would you go anywhere else?

I have had a few meals and drinks at Lone Star in Nelson over the past couple of years. This is not like a franchise store. The staff and the owner really want to provide the best possible service and in my experience deliver on that. I like the bar area and the snacks. My favorite is the squid rings. They have amazing flavor and the lemon wedge really adds the zing that makes this snack exceptional. As for the mains I prefer either a steak or rhe massive portion of spare ribs. I am impressed enough to say that even if you love smaller boutique style restaurants that this venue is definitely worth a visit. Thank you to the owner Garge and your team. You deserve this 5 star rating.

Excellent service, excellent food with generous servings. Attentive staff without being intrusive. Great at offering extra drinks, an obvious earner which very few restaurants seem to bother with. Can't fault this place.

Lovely food but had to ask where our meals were after watching 2 tables arrive after us and get their food before us...waited 45mins for 3 kids meals and a salad.

Came from Auckland, big Lone Star fans of Albany in Auckland had to visit the one in Nelson, such a wonderful atmosphere amazing helpful staff, prices always fair and portions generous. Most of all the best Lonestar we have been in, go to Nelson put this on the list and go there you will not be disappointed.

Broad range on the menu. But I felt over all it lacks some what from in the past. Still a good place to eat out.

Bit too noisy and very slow service. To be fair they were extremely busy and were happy to accommodate 4 people off the street. Were told we could sit but had to be out by a certain time....that was never going to happen 😕

Visited this fantastic place whilst on a two day business trip to Nelson. Service, beer, food and music all fabulous. Drinks ice cold and steak cooked to perfection. So good I visited both nights and both were equally on point. Would highly recommend - all the team were attentive, friendly and the atmosphere was great. Great to be back again supporting businesses.

Table option wasn't a very good one. Service was reasonable. Food was consistent and good. Specials are generally not money savers - new items that are not featured on their everyday menu. I really enjoy these restaurants. Big sized servings for most menu items.

Food was great!! Although I did think only one sever was meant to come to our table? We had 3. Only down fall was the waitress constantly trying to clear our plates and asking us if we were finished

This Nelson Lone Star was a massive improvement on any of my previous experiences. The pork dish was yummy. It was quite noisy but that is to be expected with a full house.

Should have been told a big group arrived just before us.. Waiting a hour.. Asked if kitchen had a problem.... Then they told us!! Meal was great as always!!! Also gave us Fee stuff

We arrived early, to avoid the crowds. Service was good, and the food was tasty. We made use of the loyalty application and saved some money. It's a sports bar so the volume increased as more patrons arrived. It's not a romantic or atmospheric place but has good steak. There's a kids menu with multiple options including a 'free' drink and dessert.

Food was good. Very busy because of Mothers Day which caused a delay, but to be expected.

Staff were lovely + accommodating and food was delicious

I seem to have a habit of eating my food before thinking "oh, that's right I was going to take a photo of that". 10/10 would eat a delicious medium rare steak again!

These guys are awesome. Food is Delicious... best steak & ribs in town! Dixie chicken is to die for too! They stand by their good name and Steve has always done right by us if we have by chance had a complaint. Highly recommend to all :)

Massive improvement on my last experience a year ago, Juicy tender steak and beautiful fries with a tasty mushroom sauce. Appeared a little short staffed otherwise would be 5 stars.

Warm. Popular. Worth booking on busy nights. Portions were a little small compared to what I remembered of Lone Star but still flavoursome. The "Prawn Star" main was the best of the selection we tried.

Salmon was perfect choice for birthday meal & the service superb! We will be back!

Excellent facilities. This is the best Lone Star that I have been too in two countries. The atmosphere is very nice. My wife and I enjoyed our meals. I must comment on the service we received. Totally unexpected from a New Zealand restaurant. The amount of care from our entry, seating, drinks, meal, dessert offer and receiving the bill was brilliant! The owners and manager should be very proud of the service offered on the 10th of July 2018. The food was very well presented. Cooked perfectly and tasted awesome. I would reccomend eating here and next time we visit Nelson we will be back. Thanks Chef! There is plenty of seating. The restaurant was reasonably busy but not noisy. The place is exceptionally warm and it was freezing outside. The heating was a little warm for other guests and the staff happily turned of the heating directly above them which did not effect the heating at our table. Great place - Eat here!

I came in at 8:45pm with my family for dinner as we just got back to town. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. I suffer from a variety of food allergies and often feel like I'm being a bother when I have to chop and change my meal. The staff were all happy to help and made me feel really comfortable. They are always punctual and polite. This is our favourite restaurant in Nelson. I would highly recommend to anybody and I definitely will be visiting again.

Good amount of food but long wait

A really good find on exploring this lovely town of Nelson! Parallel to main bars and outside cafes but what a find. Great staff especially Zach who made us most welcome. We shared a veggie dish and it was just superb. Easily filled us both and there was plenty. Goid prices and excellent food. Do visit Lone Star when in Nekson

Best spare ribs from any of lone star restaurant's

So this is based on 2 nights of service, food and atmosphere back to back. Night 1: Arrived around 650pm, medium attendance. Wait staff were happy to seat us and seeemed pleasant. Seat was in the bull pen infront of a tv and close to fire. Wait staff were very accommodating getting drinks and taking starters. We had the ribs to share, mains: chicken burger, 2 x steak sirloin. 1 haf no chips and a side of green vegetables and garlic butter (keto order). Steak was ordered medium rare on both. The ribs came out and they were awesome. Good flavour and the meat fell off the bone. Shared between the party of 3. Another round of drinks and the mains came. The bar wss pretty much full by that point approx. 740pm. All 2 patrons meals were as per order apart from the sear on the steak..............very poor, especially consideringthe price tag of nzd 35. Mine was full of fries which i had asked to be removed. The garlic butter was on the side and not on the steak to melt and the seasonal vegies were in a side plate. The meal including drinks was 223 nzd. And the food was about bar value, not what you would expect from a meatery. Night 2: The night after the last me and partner and my mate hit the lone star for another round......you know see if we can improve. We were seated outside and the fire was going above. Again......the wait staff were amazing. We ordered chicken 3 ways....2 x stuffed and 1 x normal with sauce. Again i asked for no chips and the kitchen delivered. I found my chicken to be moist and delicious, but the presentation had little to be desired for. Pretty much just slumped on a plate like a normal 1000000th customer. No care. My partners chicken was almost blanched and just tasted like..........boiled chicken. Again 3 x people with drinks, paying around 222 nzd. So 2 x nights back to back dining, about $500nzd and i am pushing a 3 star. The 1st star is for the fact they served food. On a plate and warm. The price tag for the food is way to high as it doesn't represent the quality you would expect for a 35nzd meal. The 2nd star is for the wait staff....absolutely top notch, even in crazy peak mode. With out these people this place would be another kitchen nightmares. The 3rd star is for the ambience, great soft old school music, bit of footy that doesn't dominate, and just a good vibe. 3 out of 5, but i wouldn't recommend as a high end.........best if you are on the business or company credit card.....not your own money.

Service is very hit or miss. Most meals are $32.00 now. Thats some nice meat with chips and coleslaw, mashed spud, and or lots of sause. We were a table of 4. With 6 other tables only needing service. Our drinks took 20 minutes. Why ? The food took close to 1 hour. Why ? The waitress asked, Who's beer is this. Then placed the full glass on the opposite side of the table from me. She should have placed it in front of me. She could not be bothered to walk to my side of the table. Then they went back to standing around. Very slack. Some ALL of them need more training Sorry. The plate is always full with food and its seldom not good. Im fussy but i am paying. I dislike chips under the steak and gravey poured all over it. Im lucky to get many that arnt soggy. Thats my only compliant and the lazy service which i have sorry to say become used to.

We had a work dinner there last night, as a vegetarian, was disappointed to find only one vegetarian option, featuring beans(which I can't eat), with all the vegetarian alternatives to burger patties, mince etc in supermarket freezers these days, I thought there would have been more options.

Ordered my ribeye steak medium but is was overcooked (well) with no pink center at all. Pretty dry piece of meat. Wife had hers ordered medium-rare and it was tender and juicy. Service was quick & nice (5/5). Atmosphere only 2/5 due to loud music & dark interior.

They had a mix up with our order. We waited and waited, then realised something was wrong. Our meal was hugely delayed, but they compensated by giving us free bread and two desserts ;-)

I had the fish, my husband chose a burger. My fish was perfectly cooked, served with a caper sauce on mashed potatoes with salad. The burger came with fried and aioli. It has bacon and egg in it as well as a big Pattie that looked home made and was flavored with herbs. We were in a hurry, eating there on our way to something else. Our meal was delivered quickly. I definitely would recommend this restaurant. Sorry, I didn't have time for photos.
