Absolutely stunning pizza. One of the best pizza bases I've ever had. Very friendly and welcoming. Definitely add it to your must dine in Nelson experience. Nice desert to finish with, after a recommendation from the owner. Thank you for a pleasant dining experience.

There were 14 of us in our group (7 kids and 7 adults) and quite late on a January weeknight. Hot rock accommodated us all so well. We had the chowder, mussels and pizza. Everything was superb! A little bit of entertainment when delivering my cocktail was appreciated!

Hands down one of the most delicious pastas I have ever had and best service around. Was super attentive, friendly and welcomed as soon as we entered. Lovely atmosphere and would absolutely recommend to anyone, great variety of options and the chicken carbonara was delicious! Thank you to our server/host, you really make the experience just that much better!

Had two takeaway pizzas on the evening of 27th December - Not only were they absolutely delicious, the owner went out of his way at 8:30am on the 28th to meet me, so we could pick up my daughters scooter we had left there the night before! Thank you so much - was hugely appreciated! we will definitely call in again when we are back in Nelson.

Pizza was tasty and the service was fast. I'm a bit torn about the rating. As I said, the pizza was good, but the quantity of the toppings was lacking. Especially for the price.

This will now be on my top 'must go' list if I am in the area. Best pizza dough i have ever had ( all sourced and milled in south island) & the moulin rouge mussle... Oh my god!!! We are thoroughly impressed!!

Very tidy small restaurant. Quick polite professional service. Not long to wait for the entree or the mains. The serving size was fair and the taste was authentic and true Italian. Very much worth the stop to eat in or take away. Had an awesome time

The large pizza is a good sized dinner for one person which for $20 is steep. The meal itself was well made and tasted of quality. The atmosphere within the takeaway portion of the restaurant was cramped however and I ended up having to wait on a bench outside facing the road. But it is close to the beach which is certainly I good spot to have a pizza

Hard to realise the size of this restaurant and bar from the outside. Please go in and look at the extensive menu, wine list and well stocked bar, I don't think you will be disappointed, the food is great and genuine. We both had the beef lasagna bolognese and tomato sauce was scrumptious and we couldn't try the deserts. The owner is really nice and appreciates contact with the customers and the young lady who took our order and served us was really lovely and quite beautiful as well. Go and try for yourselves, I'm sure if you love Italian foods and pizzas you won't be disappointed.

Conveniently located close to Tahunanui Beach and 5 min bike ride from the camp ground. A good selection of drinks and Italian food, with wood fired pizza that dominate the central space of the restaurant. Service was fast, professional and friendly. I ordered the spaghetti olio and caramel bananas with vanilla ice cream. Everything was flavorsome, portion sizes were perfect and topped off nicely with a cool ginger beer. I recommend for a solo visit or with friends and family. They will sort you out!

We were staying at the local campground and came here for the vegan pizza. The pizza was absolutely beautiful, the service was great and the cocktails were very enjoyable. We'll definitely be back for more if we're in the neighborhood again.

Wanted to go here for about 20yrs, but could never afford it until now. Food was pretty good and the beer was smooth, but it all felt really rushed. Servers seemed really disappointed when they found out it was just me coming, and I felt like I wasn't allowed a table when I came in because it was just me, despite there not being many people there. Still feel like it's got a lot of potential, but service needs to improve.

I was thoroughly underwhelmed by my experience at this establishment. For many years I have driven past the 'Hot Rock'. So finally, after recently developing quite a taste for pizza, I decided it was time to try it out. I was warmly welcomed by the host and proceeded to peruse the menu. My queries were answered quickly and pleasantly. Soon I made my choice and placed my order, though not without wincing at the price. A bench seat with a large window open to the street was a great place to wait and pass the time with the events of the small commercial area of Tahunanui. The wait wasn't long and I eagerly took my pizza to my destination. But when I opened the box I could immediately see it was a lackluster attempt. There was little meat present and the cheese was a barely detectable smudge in the centre! The other ingredients were a total mismatch of sweet and savoury. Also, added to the cacophony of flavours was the bitter sprinkling of charred base at the edges of the pizza. The potential is there with the premises, the location and the wood fired oven. The base has good qualities but could be handled better to produce a more harmonic result.

I was disappointed, the owner of a local Motel recommended this place but it did not deliver for us. My wife and I had dinner there, we ordered a Pizza and a Pasta dish to share. The Pasta was OK, the Pizza was horribly over priced for what was delivered. The soft drinks we ordered were flat when served and when we asked for fresh ones the waitress seemed uncertain if she could accommodate the request. The replacements were better but still on the flat side. The place has promise but did not deliver when we dined in recently.

Amazing experience, my wife and 3 kids all loved the food and normally it is hard to find a restaurant or Cafe that can satisfy all our taste buds, well done Hot Rock team we will be back again soon for your cold beer and good food.

I enjoyed my house made drink and how the pizza was made, however for the prices and the fact they're "gourmet pizzas", they could have more toppings and be more generous with the sauce. It was a bit dry, could barely taste the sweet chilli on the Fowl Play pizza. Anyways, thanks to the Hot Rock staff for your service.

We came here and really liked the place. Our recommendation: take them at their word that it's gourmet pizza. This means don't expect huge portions or load the pizza down with lots of extras. The crust on our pizza was thin and had a fabulous flavor that was perfectly balanced with their toppings. We didn't try any of their other dishes, but I'll bet they're terrific. In spite of the name, we think of this more as a beautiful, rather romantic little Italian restaurant than a pizzaria.

Wonderful food. Wonderful flavours. Out wait staff...charming and intersted. We had a pizza/pasta meal to share. Pizza was cooked perfectly, with our non-std ingredients. Pasta was divine. They advertise a local artisan as their smallgoods supplier. They do so (as per their own blurb) in order to support local suppliers. Well... It works. The Chorizo was full of flavour and made for soft, tasty eating. Not tough. Coffee too, was really nice. (Wife is a hard marker when it comes to coffee) Overall...fabulous experience. Highly recommend.

Had a delivery of ribs, a pizza and some chips. All were delicious, ribs weren't too sweet like a lot of others, pizza was one of the best I've had in a long time and chips were even still crispy. Bang up job chaps, good work, keep it up.

We turned up Easter Sunday when not much else was open and while these guys were rushed off their feet, they were cheerful, upbeat and were operating like an A Team. I heard several compliments from customers as they paid the bill (we were sitting at the bar next to the till.) Keep up the good work team. We had a great evening :)
