Food and service is great. Seafood Chowder is as good as my partner's recommendation. I also like the butter they offer in Seafood Chowder. Location is good. You could have great view When You are dining.

Great venue, by the seaside. Always delicious food, favourites are the pork belly burgers and the platter for 2 😋. If you like seafood, there is plenty of yummy seafood dishes on the menu. If you like pizza, lots of scrumptious pizzas cooked to perfection 👌 Great coconut mojitos too 🍹 another must try if you haven't been.

What wonderful service we had from friendly staff! The food was delicious! I had heard about the seafood chowder - absolutely one of the best in Nelson. Served with a delicious bread roll... I only ordered the small size and I was very satisfied with that! 😋 The rice dishes were great too - crispy chicken or sticky prawns - on point! The salads were simple but delicious with the ponzu dressing and mayonnaise... The fish platter had a great selection for two. We possibly ordered too much though. All of us were happy with our meals and were full before starting on the platter! My iced chocolate was a decadent way to end the meal with great company, nice atmosphere, perfect setting for a place to eat out on a special occasion...

Loved the place. We went out to take out our uncle for lunch because of everything that he has been going through currently in life. He really had a good time. He was very pleased with the ambience, the portion and quality of food. Our server was a very cheerful lady and she treated us very warmly and took care of uncle. We started off with drinks, then had bread and Dips and ordered our own mains. I ate the linguini pasta, my husband the fish - seafood is the specialty of the restaurant and uncle ate beef because he doesn't get to cook much at home. We were so full that we couldn't even move or order desert. Shall visit again 😍

Good food but one would expect a bit less fried, why not update the menu with potato wedges or potato/veggies baked in the owen? Easy to fall into the category of your average kiwi restaurant when the seafood is excellent but served with fries…

Attended a company dinner for 40+ staff and was very impressed with the service at Styx! The food was of exceptional quality, especially considering how busy the kitchen must have been. Our wonderful maitre d' Yasuko was incredibly personable, accommodating and a joy to be around. An excellent night out was had by all!

Styx has the best location, views, great drinks and varied menu selections for small bites and mains. Cherry on top are the friendly staff who are on first name basis with many of their customers, showing what every establishment strives for.....repeat clientele who obviously enjoy coming here

Our top rated restaurant in Nelson. Dana and Joe run a tight ship and each of our 3 dishes were superbly presented and cooked to perfection. Waterfront dining at it's best. We had a really great night at Styx! All the staff were very friendly, and the service was excellent - we were seated inside to begin, but when a table opened up outside our waitress asked if we wanted to move. Our drinks, appetizers, and food all came out fairly quickly, and all were very good - the pizza especially. The only thing I didn't like was the small tap beer selection (only 5), but there's a large selection of bottled beers and wine. Would definitely head back!

We went to Styx Restaurant for my birthday dinner we were a group of 21. The service we received was amazing and the food was so Delicious I had the fish dish, the fish was perfectly cooked and it was just so delicious. My husband had the steak and asked for medium and medium he got and he loved his meal also and so did the rest of the party, everyone was raving how good there meals were and that they would be returning. I would highly recommend going to the Styx the customer service was amazing and the food match it.

Food was good - fish burger was great, garlic prawns were good and calamari was average. Very friendly service and that made all the difference. Not a sunny place during the day (April) but caught some afternoon sun. Only one smokers' table which feels a bit isolated and our ashtray was a jar with yucky black water and cigarette butts, but lovely covered outside area for non-smokers. We just tried the lunch menu which was a good range. For a non-smoking evening I'll go back to try dinner. Didn't use the restrooms.

Came here on a Saturday around lunch time. Happy to hear they can do pretty much most of the menu gluten free, apart from the pancakes and seafood chowder. Opted for the beef burger and it was great, didn't have to wait to long either. Plenty of drinks on offer to suit everyone. Will be coming back in the near future.

Lovely location mainly if the weather is fine. We were gonna order a platter to share between 2 of us for $55 and were informed it's actually for 4 people. We ordered half platter and it's more than enough. Very nice with a range of choices: seafood, pork belly, sausage, salami, cheese, bread, salad etc...very tasty and good value. If you're driving try one of their non alcoholic cocktails...refreshing! Recommended!

Hands down the best restaurant in Nelson! Whether you order fish, meat or vegetables it won't let you down! I had the salad with roasted vegetables, and it was delicious! My friends saw smoking-hot meat dishes coming from the kitchen, and were torn up to the last minute about what to order because they looked incredible! Still, they tried the fish hamburger and soup, and were astonished by the taste! The staff is super welcoming, and we were all amazed by competence and knowledge of the dishes of the waitress that attended us! WOW

Couldn't fault this venue, they delivered exactly what they promoted, fresh broad menu with kiwi sized portions. Prices are typical if not cheaper because of the portion sizes compared to other venues. Great location/views of the harbor, food, cocktails and kind staff. At the time of visiting they were very busy and it still didn't effect our ordering or table chat. One of the few places I have visited this year that I would recommend to be a must visit if you enjoy good atmosphere and great fulling meals. I'll be visiting again just to make sure it wasn't a one off. Lol

The staff were all very friendly and polite, and the place has quite a nice atmosphere - not too noisy but still lively. The food were amazing where we ordered seafood pasta as well as pan seared fish of the day, and the seafood plate. The portions were large and we had to take away our pasta! $18ea for a selection of meals on the Seniors menu. It is very popular so you need to book. Every time I go I say I'm going to have something different, but I always have the seafood chowder which is amazing! Your choice of beer or wine will be included and for $ more you can order a dessert off the Seniors menu too. It's a good deal, a good meal and a good setting. The service is great too. We dined here for dinner, with a large group of 35 people and they accommodated us well. All meals were a generous size, well presented and tasty. Desserts were lovely also. Friendly wait staff.

Our family had a marvellous total experience at Styx for lunch today. We have never seen our three year old grandson each so much. Every dish was sumptuous, among the best ever. My wife and I had a lovely meal on Sunday night. We started with a shared starter of Calamari which was plentiful even for 2 people. My wife ordered Roast Beef, which was a little rare but she did not ask for the beef to be well done so we feel this was not the kitchens fault. I ordered the Seafood Chowder and if was deliscious,. The loaf/bread that went with it was not really to my liking but was ok. The staff were polite, friendly and accomadating. The food was plentiful. The decor is simple and it has a relaxed vibe. Best seafood dinner we have had for many years anywhere in NZ! Great service, nice atmosphere. We started by sharing a bowl of seafood chowder, which was fantastic if a bit small. We couldn't finish the seafood platters we both had as mains, having said that. All cooked to perfection, seasoned just right and the only comment is maybe a few more prawns and smaller portion of fish (elephant fish in this case). Even liked the fries and I don't even like fries. ;-)

I love to sit here and watch the activity around the entrance to the port and enjoy a beer. Whether you are just up for a drink, bar snacks (those curly fries are amazing!) Or a meal (try the ceviche, yum) this place has it all. The staff are what really make the difference though. You might go there for a meal but you will go back for the hospitality.

They're on a jetty, and we ate outside. Had pizzas and curly fries, both of which were nice. They are a licenced premises with tap beer. The service was friendly. There are gaps in the jetty so don't lose your keys. The outdoor seating has plastic curtains which can be rolled down for inclement weather. They offer a full dinner menu.

If your looking for a coffee or a cold one at 3pm on a Sunday arvo when the rest of Nelson shuts, this is the place to come. Coffee making was a bit slow and coffee not the hottest but what a spot.

We booked a table at peak time a few hours prior to arriving. The staff were willing to squeeze us in on the deck! Beautiful mains (I had Venison and Bacon/Mushroom Wellington, and my husband had Panko Crumbed Fresh Fish with mashed potatoes and salad). Served super quickly. We both had Indigo on the Rock (bourbon, mint, blueberries and something else yummy). Quite heavy on the alcohol so the one drink lasted us all evening! Then for dessert a Lime Cheesecake with candied orange and the biggest Ice cream Sundae! Chocolate and vanilla scoops with choc brownie and berries. Seriously good. Very happy with service, location, atmosphere, quality and quantity!

A nice surprise, and we had high expectations. The Seafood Chowder is fantastic, in fact all the seafood is a level above what you’d expect. Staff are actually genuine and friendly, we felt well looked after even though there was a massive group in for a Christmas function.

Warm welcoming friendly service and delectable food make it easy to overlook minor disappointments. It was time to celebrate a special birthday so I made sure I did my homework selecting a special place to dine with guests. I was impressed with their website and the passion expressed by the owner and head chef for both food and service. I love the sea, so I was excited that they boasted about the "panoramic view of the Tasman sea" and the "perfect spot to watch the sunset". I called ahead and made a booking and specifically asked to be seated right next to the window in the downstairs covered seating area to ensure a great view for our party of four. On arrival we received a warm welcome as if my arrival was anticipated. As I joined my guests we could hardly hear each other speak due to the larger party at the other table; and to my disappointment we were not seated directly next to the window despite there being available tables where I had requested. I would've asked to move but as my guest arrived a little earlier than me was seated already and a high chair was fixed to the table for our little person I didn't want to make a fuss. Our waitress was very attentive to us and gave special attention to our little guest who was very happy to receive all the extra attention, she was quite comfortable in her high-seat and entertained with crayons & a colouring page with the children's menu printed on the back. There is a healthy selection of kids meals to chose from at $12 a meal. We ordered Mini sausages and creamy mash potatoe which came with a side of salad. My daughter was well looked after as her meal came out as soon as it was ready which kept her happy. Her 5 mini-sausages were gone in no time and she even ate the salad (that's a first)!! On a side note when the drinks came out my glass was a little dirty, so I had to ask for a clean one. And Despite the loud chatter & boisterous laughter that eventually petered out when the larger party left, and me having my back to the beautiful view the whole night; the food that we ordered was impressive: As a starter we ordered the Warm antipasto platter comprised of local and New Zealand cheeses, cured meats, prawns, house smoked fish, deliciously delicate crumbed and fried calamari (this was the favourite), pork belly, flavoursome fish cake, perfectly dressed salad greens, marinated olives, scrumptious dips, olive oil and sliced ciabatta bread; the presentation was on point, but we had to order extra bread as it wasn't sufficient for our party of four. It was 'Steak Night' at The Styx (Thursday 6th October 2016) which was great as that is what I was craving for. I ordered the Beef Eye Fillet Steak with pepper sauce with Chips & aioli for only $20!! A young waiter brought it out to me and placed the plate with the meat on the far side of the plate, but the presentation was nice, and I have to say my steak was cooked to a perfect medium just how I like it and the pepper sauce was nice and subtle. It was so yummy my plate was clean by the end of it! My husbands meal was also a hit: he ordered the Beef Eye Fillet Steak (blue) with King prawns, chips and salad. He was also pleased that his steak was cooked to perfection and with a generous portion his appetite was satisfied. Our guest ordered Fish and chips: Fish of the day was gurnard, served with steak cut chips, salad greens, lemon and tartare sauce: it was well presented and there was no complaints (clean plate)! To finish off my celebration I was the only one who ordered dessert: the Creme Brûlée with berry compote, but I was served the Chocolate Delice which looked so tempting I wasn't going to send it back. I had spoons coming in from all directions for a taste! Overall it was a delightful night had by all. We even had a yack outside to out-of-towners who were seated at our neighboring table who seemed to enjoy their night out at The Styx aswell.
