The food is really tasty, and the staff were very attentive. We arrived early on a weekday and it wasn't busy, although it picked up later on. The menu was varied.

This is the first time we have dined here. The table really was not big enough to fit glasses, extra drinks and our dishes. The food was good, the lamb Shanks were falling of the bone!! The sauce was a bit to sweet. The beef in the red curry was a little chewy... but loved the bamboo and Mini corn!! Appetizers were ok... nothing really stood out. Not a fan of the soup. What did stand out... is the service!! The staff was very professional and friendly. The service was outstanding... and many restaurants could learn from Tongtara Thai. Thank you.

Everything was Fantastic ! A cool rainy grey early evening ... Nice and warm and cosy inside with relaxing chilled music playing in the background. Great friendly attentive service. We ordered a mix of entree's that couldn't be faulted. . Fish Cakes, mini pork ribs, melt in your mouth lemon salt pepper calamari, chicken nibbles... then a main to share of "Chef's Special " spicy crispy crumbed chicken and fried rice ... Absolutely Delicious! And I Loved having Chard Farm Chardonnay : ) Thank You for a beautiful dinner !

My friend and I ordered the chicken fried rice and fresh vegetable spring rolls. Absolutely amazing and tasty. Would recommend this restaurant to any family or friends. In-house hostess was very attentive and had great customer service

Thaitanium in Frankton use to be my favourite green curry place, I think Tongtara green curry is now my new favourite 🥳

Wow what an awesome restaurant. I will definitely be coming back here to sit down to eat. Went in for takeaway but really should of stayed. For there custom is all about the people that walk into there restaurant to eat. They greet you like family and serve the best food in town.

I had the green curry and was seriously lovely.. only negative I have is as it was lunch time menu I would of loved just a little more.. it was that nice.

Value for money and tasty Thai food. The waitress was so polite, friendly and helpful. She made the place even more pleasant!

This restaurant is truly extraordinary. The head chef must have tried very hard to devise his own recipes utilizing what's available in the country. I could feel the dishes have been somewhat 'adapted' but they were all wonderfully prepared to suit everyone's taste bud. Having these Thai dishes with a hot plate of high quality rice is just a wonderful experience. I look forward to coming back here again the next time I visit Nelson

*The best Thai Food in the town* The most closer taste to local Thai Food!And, I have been going 3 times in a month with my friends! Recommend the tomyam seafood soup, pineapple fried rice, pad thai and curry puff! It's has special price during lunch hour, but there have dinner set too which can serve for 4 people. If you are miss the Thai food like me, don't miss out this restaurant when you passed by Nelson!

Ordered for take away. The Golden Puffs actually used real puff pastry dough, so they were flaky and delicious, even after a 15 min car ride back home. The vegetarian Pad Thai (the small packs a lot of noodles in!) and the fish fillet with Panang Curry were both solid. They also threw in a free portion of rice. Service was lovely and is definitely return.

I ordered a Prawn Jungle Curry as a takeaway because it expressly said in the menu that it had no cocount milk in it and was a vegetable based curry. It was loaded with coconut milk and the 'veges' consisted of potato onion and pineapple?! Thank you for the gracious apology. I now see an honest mistake was made. I will add that it did taste good even though it was not what I ordered.

Awesome Thai restaurant in the Nelson city centre. The curry puff was really awesome, so was the green curry stir fried rice. Clean, friendly and fast serving, ticks all the boxes. If you are looking for a Thai experience this may be the best in Nelson.

Had a very nice meal at Tongtara Thai. Service was great and food tasty. Fresh spring rolls for entree. Stir-fry Cashews with Honey Pork and Ginger Beef for mains. Good serving size.

Stopped in for lunch. Great choice well priced and a great taste. Garlic and pepper was great, as was the Thai coffee. Well worth a visit you won't be disappointed

Great food! Our entrees were delightful, the salt n pepper calamari was better than some seafood restaurants I've eaten at around Nelson. Friendly service and reasonable wait times between courses. I couldn't help but notice that the entire restaurant really needs a really thorough hot mopping.

Went for dinner for a friends birthday, ordered arancini balls and they were soooo good!! Always enjoy coming to Smugglers, the staff are always lovely and provide awesome service!The food was yummy! Huge selection to choose from, it was hard to pick. Fun, helpful staff, very polite and friendly too. We liked it so much first time we went back two days later for a second helping. A must do when in Nelson

We ordered the green curry, lamb shank mussuman curry, golden puffs, and a egg fried noodles. All items were amazing, all instructions were followed to the T. You can really taste the quality ingredients that have gone in to these.

Lovely dinner and service at Tong Tara. We had an extra spicy green chicken curry and the special chicken fried with green beans which were both delicious. Great Thai food! Finished off with our long time favourite dessert which is harder to find these days, fried banana and ice cream. Beautifully cooked. Very Good value for such a tasty dinner.

Large menu offering and warm place to have some delicious thai food. The portions are large and the dishes were tasty. We didn't wait long at all which is a plus.

One of the best Thai meals my wife and I have had in some time! Staff where very helpful and extremely polite. Food was delicious, we had the Red Curry Stir Fry and the Chef Special Fried Chicken and Green Beans. I highly recommend this to anyone staying in Nelson who enjoys fantastic Thai food looking for a lovely night out.

Yum food, and amazing customer service. The servers brought over pencils and paper and utensils and cutlery for my young daughter and made her feel very special, also gave her some custard for dessert for free.

We did First Table here tonight and absolutely loved it. The Pad Thai was out of this world! The flavours were devine and I will certainly be going back there. They do takeaway as well if you are in a hurry!

Lovely dinner here while traveling through Nelson, had Thai fried rice and couldn't recommend it more. Was very hot in the restraint though and everyone at our table was breaking a sweat. Will head back here again next time we're in town.

Food was good, waiter (I assume he is the owner) was very friendly but his pinky fingernails were at least 1.5 cm and that was disgusting. Everytime when he comes and serve me I felt like throwing up. Other than that, I would happily give 4.

had lunch pretty meh . just frozen spring rolls prawn twisters etc etc from boxes you get in supermarket with bottled chilli sauce ,could of heated myself and saved 50 bucks

The next day the hor mok (seafood with seasonal vegetables), I was not disappointed, I enjoyed myself again, even if there was a little too much sauce for me. ..And always a nice presentation.
