Huge menu including great choice for vegetarians, plenty of seating, central location in a heritage building, exquisite presentation and delicious presentation…..what more can one ask for! There is only one problem- to make the decision on what to order. I had a few different dishes shared between a few of us. Each one was delectable, and different from the usual stuff. “What’s different?” - you might ask. Why not try it the next time you are in New Plymouth?!

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner date at the restaurant. Great ambiance, delicious & well presented food & drinks and above all, exceptional service by a lovely young lady called Mirielle, hope I got the name right. ☺️🙏🏼

It's not worth the money, what we pay for is not what we get. The food on the large plates was small. Charges 10% service charge but no clear signage. Wanted to support the local area so came twice. The first time was on 2 January as the Goole map showed it was open, but when we arrived it was closed. This was my first visit to New Plymouth and found many excellent restaurants, but not this one.

Dinner was lovely although I got served the wrong dish. I asked for the spaghetti con pollo e pesto and my dish turned up as fusilli con pollo e fungi. It was lovely dish but a little disappointed I didn't get what I asked for. I prob should have said something but smelt good so stuck with it. They were very busy due to it being a public holiday and managed to get us the last table. The garlic bread pizza was a little dry but okay.. we also got overcharged on the dinner by $6.00 which isn't alot but it is on a tight budget. Overall okay food tasted great maybe just a little care on what people are ordering

Due to COVID, we had to cancel our booking on December 5, for my Birthday, with my sister and brother in law, so it happened last night. The staff made my belated dinner night one to remember. And meals left nothing but oh wow. Size, taste, and style, what more do you want when you go out but a Wow, as each course came out. What a fantastic night out. Well done 👍👍👍👍. We will be back, the menu you have means, we just need to come back to try more of your fantastic service and meals. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

Hearty portions and amazing flavors. We tried the eggs Benedict with beef carpaccio for sides and the fungi pasta with chicken & truffle oil. Well balanced flavors and beautiful space. The flat whites were served with yummy edible chocolate spoons, a nice surprise! Excellent staff too.

I'm not sure it my review got out. This is a fantastic restaurant to visit if you're in Taranaki. My sister and Brother in law were next to come up on the 5th December, but due to covid the had to put it off, nut on the 5th of January 2022. We went there, I cannot take photos of our meals. But size, tastet and staff were fantastic, yes I have see some reviews. If you don't like the prices, not my problem. Google first. It is a fantastic restaurant. We will go back... the 5 star's I give them is genuine. We had wow factors, through out our meals.

A fantastic experience! Very delicious and satisfying food. Staff was very helpful as well. Attention to detail and quality was evident in even the littlest of things. From the presentation of plates to the little chocolate spoon served with the coffee. It's an 11/10 restaurant. Would happily detour to New Plymouth just for this place :)

The food was amazing. I've ordered a Porterhouse angus and it tasted good( was medium-well done but I ordered for medium-rare) but that isn't a huge problem for me... the portion size was perfect with veggies and sauce and desserts were all great and I had other guests with me too and they were all satisfied. Amazing customer service. Will be going back for more.

Area 41 is an all day eatery off the main strip in New Plymouth. I had the pleasure of dining at for breakfast on a rainy New Plymouth morning. We ordered the Waffles and bacon benedetto (Benedict). The food presentation was excellent, service was top notch and atmosphere really made my visit enjoyable. Next time I would like to visit for dinner so I can try the pasta. For now, absolutely deserving of 5 stars. A must visit if in town.

Had a great meal here. Hot, fresh and fulfilling comfort food and at a reasonable price. My wife is a huge fan of mushroom risotto and you had her attention at the door menu. A busy place that seemed popular during the week. Would be happy to return here if the opportunity arose again!

As a hot chocolate and pizza lover this local was heaven for me. I got a spoon out of chocolate for the hot chocolate, which was amazing. The pizza was excellent (thin and crispy). The menu allow you a good choice in different categories. The service was attentively and excellent!

Tried a takeaway for a thin crust pizza and Fettuccine with pesto. Pizza was excellent, Fettuccine however lacked a bit also the portion could have been a bit generous. The taste was great will give it another try tomorrow for a more dine in experience.

Area 41 is a great place to dine and this is not just because the food is superb but also due to the lovely staff. The area inside is nicely spaced out and quite cosy which creates a nice atmosphere. Would highly recommend trying out this restaurant.

Wow I have not been here before and I was so impressed with the service and food! The waitress was up and down the stairs so many times and always with a smile! There is a good variety on the menu and the meal sizes are very generous. Without taking anything away from my meal, which was chicken and mushroom pasta which was so delicious! But then I got food envy and I kinda wished I'd got the steak because it looked amazing! The only thing I thought was a little negative about the place is the cost of the starters and side dishes was up there, but tbh I don't think that would be necessary to add extras as the portions were more than enough! Deserts were good too... I got the tiramisu which was nice but it could've been more coffee ish as there was alot of topping but hey, it was tasty regardless. I kinda wished I'd tried the flaming baked Alaska because that was an experience in itself. I will definitely return to Area 41! We also loved the atmosphere and the building. Next time I will also get pics for you all 😊

My wife and I had dinner here for our anniversary and everything about it was a great dining experience. The staff were so polite and welcoming. The menu has lots vegetarian options and a great range for everyone to enjoy, and to top it all off, the cocktails were delicious. We will definitely be back and recommending to friends and family.

Visited here 3 times in 5 weeks. Very consistant experience, the staff are fantastic and put in the extra effort, the kitchen works at blazing speed. Menu options throughout are great and the food quality is excellent.

What's fantastic service in this wonderful restaurant! The food was sooooo good that I brought my hosts back the following night. Our food arrived just about together and we had ordered 4 totally different meals. My favorite dessert had the deconstructed brownies, fruit and ice cream. Sooooo yumm & enough to share if you are with someone else. I happily ate the whole dessert.... I wouldn't have said that this place is wheelchair friendly but there was a person in a wheelchair so obviously it is! Parking in the street is a bit of a pain but there's usually plenty of parks in the nearby street at the bottom of the wee hill

Booked for Valentines dinner, service was spectacular, the manager at the bar and the young man serving us were both excellent! Cocktails were good, though the dominant flavor of our espresso martinis(other than alcohol) was cinnamon which wasnt in the menu description and may have swayed us toward another flavor as it was quite intense. Meals were very average for the pricepoint which was a letdown; my carbonara had little to no flavor to it at $32, my partners fettuccine just tasted of the white wine it was cooked it, and the portions were very small aswell. Have been several times for brunch and found those meals and portions much more reasonable, so will just stick to breakfast/brunch from now ♡

I rarely give less than a four star review but sadly Area 41 was a bit of a miss for us. There were some bright spots: the “Shades of Pink” dessert was a beautifully presented flavour bomb and likely one of the best desserts I’ve eaten, but unfortunately the rest of the meal wasn’t great. Our garlic bread order was “forgotten”, the chicken was quite over cooked, and stringy pork belly with no crackling is frankly pretty bizarre (how do you get pork belly wrong!?). The tiramisu was flavourless and the creme brûlée was over cooked like scrambled eggs 😓 Overall the menu looked incredible and if executed well would be brilliant.

What a lovely place! I committed the cardinal sin of sending my food back just because my lamb was a bit under and trust me i like it med rare but this was just a bit under that and not wanting to risk toxoplasmosis, i tentatively asked for it to be cooked a tab more. The wait staff were fabulous and took it back, i mouthed a sorry to the chef as he looked over, i expected it microwaved and sent back, but no...these guys re did my meal and it was superb. Tender, tasty flavourful and cooked to perfection. The pulled lamb was soooo good. I dont know why we dont do more pulled lamb in nz...we have enough lambs so pls chefs, start pulling :-) but again what makes a place great isnt just the food, its the ppl. And EVERYONE was GREAT. Keep doing that. Im loving my roadie, eating great food,experiencing good hospitality. Living the life! Thanks guys.

We went here for an early breakfast. From the name I was expecting more of a hipster cafe but it's a more formal style italian/european (?) menu. Meals were huge portions and we couldn't even finish half. The flavour was underwhelming and menu options were sightly repetitive, with the mention of a potato sago cake with almost every option. What was this mystery potato sago thing? We definitely were keen to try it. It tasted like a delicious potato gratin and was the tastiest thing on the plate, so I could see why they put it on most of the plates. I wouldn't recommend the porridge as it tasted like creme anglaise with oats and a tiny amount of haphazardly chopped random fruit on top (grapes and apples from what I could tell). Definitely not the healthy option I was hoping for! There was not a single healthy option on the breakfast menu. The coffee was pretty good and they served it with a chocolate spoon that was quite impressive but we didn't eat it because it was like 8.30am and we weren't feeling it was appropriate pre-breakfast. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here again for breakfast, but I wouldn't mind trying their proper lunch or dinner menus as I'm sure they'd be hearty and delicious.

Wonderful, went for breakfast on a Monday morning was quiet but we were well taken care of. Buttermilk pancakes were light and fluffy. Was probably one the best places that I've been too. The staff, food, service and overall experience was top notch. A friend booked our dinner here, and called ahead to ensure they would have gluten free options for me to eat. As soon as we arrived, the staff were all aware there was 1 guest who would be gluten free, and they made sure to confirm with me any options or swaps on the menu for my meal choices. The menu had an impressive choice of Italian dishes. The atmosphere is great and there is a lot to take in. The staff are friendly and have smiles. A varied menu has interesting and complex dishes expertly prepared by the skilled chef. The coffee is well done.

OMG! tonight my partner and I went for a nice quiet dinner. The wine matches were on point and the Pork! Yes! Wait staff were perfect and the chef came out twice to ensure the food was satisfying. Very Good. It is very obvious this place has changed ownership. But I am almost pleased to say it's better. The prices are more affordable, the food is still very tasty and the service is pleasant and timely. Good on you Prohibition. It's tough to find a decent and affordable place to eat in New Plymouth.

We called into this restaurant on the way to a show at the local theatre. We were in a hurry and mentioned this to the wait staff. We ordered pasta which was delivered to us as quick as lightening. Very nicely decorated bar/restaurant found myself staring at the tattoo art on the walls at multiple occasions. We just had some snacks but they were very nice. Great selection of craft beer available. Would recommend for a quick bite and few beers if you are in New Plymouth.

We are down from Auckland and staying at the Copthorne hotel accross the road from Area 41. We have just eaten dinner and can highly recommend this place. The staff are friendly and helpful without being obsequious. My rare steak was cooked perfectly. The attention to detail and flavour created in each dish was exceptional. The music created a great 1930s vibe. The price was not too bad given the quality of the food.

The Gnocchi and Penne pasta was fantastic, great texture and bold flavours, but the Tirimasu had no coffee flavour and brulee was over cooked which was sent back. No apology for that. Not in a hurry to go back.

A group of 5 of us went as we are down here for the Tattoo Expo. First of all the style of Prohibition was fantastic with tattoo based artwork and a really cool layout for all people who were dining there. Service was great and awesome burger selection. Food tasted amazing and everyone enjoyed the experience. Would recommend for anyone especially people who have interests in the Tattoo's.

I'm not a big burger fan but i decided to come here with my friend and we shared one burger and a side of fries. The burger was chicken and something i don't really remember what it was but I have to say it was the best burger I have tasted in my whole entire life and probably the best meal I've ever had. The bread bun was not too heavy or over powering and there was an abundance of sauce. (melts in your mouth) The fries were the best fries i have ever had. They were cooked to perfection and had what they called garlic and celery salt, and also Parmesan cheese on top. I couldn't really taste the celery (thank goodness) but the combination of this was so nice. We can't stop talking about our dream burger and fries we had that night (2 weeks later) service was nice and the waiter was kinda cute. If only there was another restaurant in wellington.

We had lamb burger, pork belly burger and fish n' chips. They are all excellent, especially the pork belly burger. I got myself a nice cup of Vietnamese coffee and that was one of the best coffee I've ever had. Certainly will come back.

Seriously good food. Injustice to shove it on a motel room plate.
