We don't know what to expect and we end up totally love the food. We ordered the Fruit of the Sea and the flavour is brilliant. We finally ordered a food that doesn't have aioli and still tastes good. We will be back.

Fantastic place for quiet afternoon drinks and dinner over the water. The food was amazing. The flavours to die for and the atmosphere so peaceful and relaxing. The sorbet served with the creme brulee I could eat just on its own it was that good. Will definitely be back here soon.

Think we went on a bad day based on the other reviews :( Both had the grilled fish and chips and both feel a 3 star is generous based on the food but the view and location (and the garage project beer!) made up for it. Chips where under done(some with an actual raw crunch) and weirdly both are fish and chips were in a puddle of water on the plate, which made for a rather soggy meal. Also stood at the entrance after being scanned in for a solid 10min before being shown to a table.

Seafood shared platter was perfect. Well balanced amount of food and some great wine pairings to try. Reasonable price for what is on the menu. Lovely view of ocean!

The food was amazing & even though we were a large group of 15, we were served in record time by very pleasant staff. Photos of the French Toast & my half potion of the tagliatelle with a beetroot cream sauce, pumpkin & walnuts. The scallop dish looked amazing. My friend and I went to Gusto for dinner tonight, a place i enjoy going to. We walked in and scanned at 6.05pm. We sat outside on the deck and had great views, pitty about the long wait we had. We ordered and within a few minutes we got our Garlic bread which was pretty quick after ordering, yep it was nearly cold so wasn't our order but a spare garlic bread we ended up getting. Then after a very long wait and customers coming in long after us got their mains, we still waited. We spoke to 3 different staff about hoping our meal wouldnt be much longer. We were very polite. Finally it came out at 20 to 8. No apologies from any of the staff for the long wait. The main meal was very nice. We were very disappointed and will think twice before going back.

Had a wonderful breakfast of eggs bene Gusto style. It was one of the best I've eaten. All 4 meals were top of the range. Great attentive service and a fantastic view of the sea and port. Couldn't have been happier with our decision to go there.

FIVE STARS! for the food, drinks, service, decor and the location. I have tried almost everything on the menu and never really had any issues with anything. Just beware of the seagulls trying to steal your food in the patio @ the waterfront lol

A wonderful restaurant. The food is excellent, and the ambiance is quite nice as well. The tables are well separated for private conversation without creating a sense of separation and seclusion. The beach side feel is nice. Took off one star because the beach has a random car tire which ruins the feel of a beach side table and the lack of salad options.

Beautiful restaurant with a gorgeous view of the sea/ beachfront. There is a large, efficient and friendly staff. We were 5 at our table but our order came really quickly despite the restaurant being so busy. It looks like Sunday is a perfect place for dining at Gustos. I ordered the spicy calamari with salad but was abit disappointed as it didn't taste spicy at all and was not crisply fried. ( my preferred taste) I also favour really hot, spicy hot, food. So I guess it's a matter of taste. My one friend ordered the eggs benedict and she thought it was superb. She loved the fact that the serving of bacon was so generous. The whole visit was a great experience and my third visit here.

Very good restaurant. The food is absolutely amazing, it's really really good. I had the lam ribs, cooked perfectly. It was so tender and tasty. Nice views of the sea and a good setup of tables. There is much space between the tables, so that you can't follow someones conversation. I would highly recommend this restaurant in New Plymouth! If we ever visit New Plymouth again, we are coming back for sure.

Amazing food, great staff and the views A-MAZING an the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. if your looking for a big booking or a small intimate dinner i highly recommend. if i could give more then 5 stars i totaly would, very impressed and our dinning experience was phenomenal. I love this place! Amazing atmosphere and best desserts in town! Just once we went for a 2 for 1 deal with my husband and experienced a not very nice customer service, but all other times were memorable and worth returning.

Usually a consistently good option for lunch, best location on a sunny day. Service has always varied, some excellent staff and some who are sour, but key suggestion is don't dump sweet chilli sauce into food to make it more spicy.... It makes dishes too sweet.

I LOVE Gusto. Each year on my birthday I order a seafood platter. I pick it up before lunch and nibble on it all day including dinner - Yum. The team are always very friendly and although I don't eat out often a young woman always remembers me and compliments me on what I am wearing. Being closer to 70 than any age age - it makes my day. Location, and food (when it finally arrived) are really good. We all ordered from the brunch menu and it was really good (poached eggs in various presentations and some fancy toast). Kids menu was nice, ours really loved the pizza. Our only issue was service. We waited over an hour for our food to arrive, as there were 'communication' issues in the kitchen. We were only told this when we asked if there was an issue. There were no updates or advice that there was a delay. We weren't the only ones as the table who ordered just before us were also waiting. I'm not sure if they knew the staff, but their explanation for the delay was more personalised, and less ambiguous. I'm also unsure if they got free drinks while they waited, but a second round did arrive. We were given some packs for the kids, though not with any reference to the delay and I imagine they are standard service. When we paid there was no offer of a discount or anything other than sorry for the delay. This establishment is very nice and presents as a 5 star experience. The delay by the kitchen and the lack of updates from the staff or any form of offering to make up for the delay pulls it down for us.

Had a superb meal on Monday - friendly and obliging staff - you often find restaurants are not open on a Monday but as it was a special day for us it was very welcome to be able to take advantage of a class restaurant being open. Well done we had anniversary and birthday day all in one.

Had a birthday dinner here last night. The waiter was attentive but gave us our space. He also did a few things to make our night special which I really appreciate! The food was amazing, everyone was more than satisfied. I love the location the most. We watched the sun set over the port, there is plenty of space in the restaurant so we definitely didn't feel cramped in or like we had to yell to hear each other. Great lunch, a little mixed up but a relatively new young waitress, who was very personable and lovely so it wasn't a problem. What I got was excellent anyway. The view over the marina with the rough sea breaking somewhat over the breakwater was a neat vista, heaps of parking, need to return for a dinner now, they have a great bar as well.

Mixed feelings, when we sat down there where bread crumbs over seat and floor. Ordered a bottle of wine which they put on table and didn't offer to pour. One of us had lamb rack and sweetbreads of which it only had one small one. Food tasted nice. One person had duck and was sick that night after thinking the stuffing tasted strange. We had some real nice deserts. Overall I think they could have done better with service and hygiene.

Had lunch on Sunday. This restaurant is light and spacious and beside the water near Port Taranaki. Was quite busy but staff were very attentive and food and drinks came out in good time. The meals were really good sizes and we all enjoyed the food and flavors. Recommended!!

Last night my birthday evening meal out with my sister and brother-in-law, this happens every year. This year after 3 years of trying my sister booked early so we went to Gusto's, it was well worth the wait. We arrived early, and we're made to feel welcome. During our services our waiter Jona was most attentive not just when he brought our course to us but in between courses and part way through each course to see if we were happy, Jona you are a credit to your self and Gusto's. The course we're not like 90 percent of other restaurants, where you have to have extra sides (we did but didn't need too) the entray plater for two could have feed 4 or more. Each course was the same, plenty on the plates, they were of the highest quality. Well done the chief and the kitchen team. One last comment the food was perfection, thanks to the chief and his kitchen team, and from the front of house, to Jona our waiter. We all 3 had an amazing experience.

Great location by the water. Decor was uninteresting but the view at sunset totally made up for it. We sat on the deck looking out to the water and it was incredible. Food was delicious- we ordered a variety of entrees including the mussels, scallops, pork ribs, arancini balls and calamari. I would recommend them all. The service was prompt and staff didn’t hover which I always appreciate.

Very average experience. Our seafood dishes just pub grub really. Lots of deep fry. Not locals, so weren't aware of Chef's awards and weren't made aware by reading the menu or any promotion from wait staff. Wait staff need some training. Mumbling, street English, almost rude. We were actually uncomfortable asking for more drinks, cutlery or water. Good service should be right onto those things. Small servings for price and that included wine by the glass. Not recommended. Pity because it's a great waterfront spot.

We were driving along looking for a restaurant or cafe with a sea view for lunch and Gusto looked interesting as it's right on the waterfront. The place was buzzing with all the true seaside tables reserved by people who knew to book. We were offered a window table where there was an outdoor dining deck between us and the sea but it was a pretty good choice. Coffee came before the food I drink a lot of cafe coffee and this Americano was A+. I asked and was told it was an OZONE roast but I didnt find out if it was single origin or a blend. Food was also very much to our liking. Staff were knowledgeable and helpful. I especially commend Abbey (sp?). She was the barista and between cups also waited on tables. It was a beautiful day in Taranaki and we had a fabulous lunch at Gusto.

Service needs work. Went for lunch and it took 15 min before anyone came to ask if we would like a drink let alone take our order. Once the food arrived, which was lovely by the way, we didn’t see any staff again! No one came back to ask if everything was ok, no one came to take drink or coffee orders and we ended up having to clear out plates out of the way as no one came to clear after 20 minutes of having empty dishes in front of us. The wait staff were all standing at the coffee machine talking in a group and ignoring the customers.
