Service was friendly and professional. The dishes were flavorsome and so nicely presented. We had the duck salad and a beef and ginger curry. The serving size was perfect for us. Pricing was very reasonable with plenty of dishes available at under $25. We will be returning.

Turns out Google reviewers do know what they are talking about! Chose this place based on the reviews and it was incredible. Every dish absolutely delicious. Glad we ordered more than we could eat because it was even better the next day. Decor was a little tired but that was soon forgotten when you tasted the food. Will be coming here again first chance we can.

Beautiful and flavourful food. All dishes came reasonably quick and very generous portion. Service was ok (one lady seems like she doesn’t want to be there)

Food was amazing and the staff were welcoming. We went in a group of 5 and ordered the banquet which was perfect for us we were very hungry! Definitely a restaurant to visit when you're in New Plymouth

This is one of the places where I receive #happiness. Sensational Thai food that never fails to make me happy, it's fresh, flamboyant and zesty! We love the fragrant herbs and the seafood. Thai food fused with New Zealand wine. We love the asian #generousity and the #amazing #people. The decor is great, the prices are great and they do takeaway orders to.

Food is good but not as good as 10 yrs ago. They don't even have any soup spoon when we requested.

Authentic and beautiful interior. Huge restaurant and big menus, lots to choose from! Pad Thai we got was too salty, but when we told the waitress, she got a new batch made for us which tasted a lot better! Friendly service. Recommended if you feel like Asian food, or going out for dinner in a large group and want to share.

Went to this cool looking restaurant. Just ordered 2 dishes. The famous thai Tom Yum soup (vegetarian). Well the soup had more vegetables than the soup. Secondly ordered the Red Curry with Jasmine Rice in the mains. The Red Curry was actually sweet which I didn't expect at all. I was expecting mildly sweet with tangy and spicy taste. So not even close to the actual Red Curry. The ambience was quite gud but it got really hot inside as there were no fans or AC to beat the outside heat wave. The waitresses themselves struggled with the heat

It’s a place to make a reservation. Staff were friendly and the food was delicious. Unfortunately,all the dished were missing coriander.

I have tried Thai Chef in different cities, they always made with fresh veggie. My favourite is the holy basil with meats. If you are vegan person, highly recommend their Thai salad, different from salad in western countries, Thai salad made with several sauces, you won’t be able to stop to eat it because they are so tasty. We also ordered most popular pai tai, It surprised me the noodles taste like fresh handmade. Will go back again.

Absolutely yum and too much food. Definitely well priced for what you get but quite large servings for those with small to medium appetites. Suggest share or be prepared to take home a doggy bag. "Busy as" on the night but excellent service maintained.

Most authentic Thai that I had in New Zealand. Every single dish was so good and tasty. You should definitely come here and try out the different dishes!!

Best Thai I’ve ever had! We ordered 1 rice, 2 roti, red curry and Penang curry (for 2 people) and they were all fantastic! Flavourful dishes and large portions meant we were able to share our meals easily and have some to take home too. Lovely staff and great atmosphere! Will definitely be back :)

Really decent Thai food in an amazing atmosphere with friendly wait staff. Went here pretty regularly for a couple of years and got to know the managers, they still remember me even though I've been away from New Plymouth for a year. Food is generously portioned, well balanced in flavour, and if you want it to be, really really spicy. Absolutely everything we were looking for in a Thai restaurant.

Friendly service, nice atmosphere, freshly made and very tasty Thai food. Unique names for their dishes and understandably, very popular and busy. Medium is quite hot so I would recommend Mild if you are not used to hot and spicy food.

Entering Thai Chef is a visual treat, with the restaurant lavishly decorated. We've always found service has been very good, always fast, friendly and attentive. The menu is vast and we make a point of always trying a new dish with every visit. Flavours are abundant. And we haven't yet had a dish we didn't like. The red curry is a staple favourite however, and is a safe choice for flavour satisfaction. We always ask for our dishes medium hot but we have found the heat level to vary sometimes. Never a problem, but if you don't like heat be clear when ordering. A restaurant we always find ourselves going back to.

Always a pleasure coming here for dinner. I’m a bit of a creature of habit so I usually go for my pad Thai or my red/green curries, but went for something different my last visit. I started with the Prawn cakes and they were horrible. Extremely hard and crunchy, flavourless and the ‘tasty minced king prawn’ centre was incredibly disappointing (was the size of a pea and didn’t taste anything like prawn or coriander). I have to admit my main made up for my disappointing starter. I had ‘The Ginger’ and it was delicious, heaps of vegetables, a great serving portion and reasonably priced ($20.80 for the vegetarian option) Overall a decent experience, friendly and helpful staff and tasty food.

Fantastic lunch here on 17 May. Great service and great food. All four of us loved it. My chicken laksa was the best I've had anywhere. Can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Thanks Kay and team.

Very tasty Thai food and awesome staff. My elderly inlaws favourite restaurant and the staff know them and are so kind! Large portions so a good place to order a couple of dishes between 4 and share. Reasonable prices too😁

Very friendly staff, meal prices are reasonable and portion sizes are good, freshly made food and amazing variety and can be customised to suit your taste, great atmosphere and very clean dining areas

Nice spacious room, good atmosphere, great value for money with the food and it's delicious! Our waitress Sarah was awesome, we were a bit difficult but she handled it like a pro and made sure we were well looked after. Great service and will be back again. :)

The royal penang curry is the best I have ever had in NZ. Beautiful flavours that are finished with chopped roasted peanuts. I struggled to finish the portion size is most generous. Service was very quick, atmosphere warm & welcoming 10/10 brilliant in every way!

Overall, not terrible and clearly a bit of an institution, but the place is a bit dirty (don’t look in the corners) and the food was underwhelming. Appetisers we’re undercooked and very greasy.

Not as good as Thai Chef Parnell Auckland.. especially green chicken curry. Very thin watery ...but excellent staff.

Delicious food! I had the thai red curry with beef and it was simply amazing the great flavours. Though the coconut rice i had with it was a bit too sweet for my pallet. But otherwise a great to go for good meal. Has a beautiful ambiance

Great food.No doubt about the taste of the food.Best Thai food I’ve had in a while.But I think they could i prove the quality and quantity of the seafood dishes.Ordered the seafood volcano but it mostly had fish and no scollops to be found.I think they should put more seafood in the seafood dishes but not just fish.But then again delicious food and nice friendly staff.

Amazing quality Thai food. I have tried most of their dishes and aside from their green curry (which was uncharacteristically bland) the food has been some of the best commercially available Thai food in New Zealand. They do lose one star for the service which is mixed. Sometimes fantastic and friendly but occasionally abrupt (although seldom rude). Highly recommend for anyone who doesn't mind the mid range prices and wants high quality food.

Long tables really narrow..hard to fit everyones dishes on (we were a group of 7). Meal took a while to show up as well as my dish, in my opinion, tasted a bit too sour for a nasi goreng. Nice atmosphere though.

Absolutely the best Thai food we've had in New Plymouth. Great service, busy little place "good sign". Will take my wife there again, loved it. Priced reasonable and generous portions.

Good quality food, prices on the higher side of mid range. What I've tried was quite tasty :) Separate party area for birthdays etc. Little bit of a weird setup seating wise in the middle but the food makes up for it :)

A very nice restaurant, perfect for friends and family. The stuff here have always been very friendly and the energy is always good. The restraint offers both in-house dining and takeaways, the takeaways having always been superb. All in all a very nice experience with perfect food.

We absolutely love to eat at Thai Chef as the food is fantastic, delicious, fresh and just so yummy. The service is exceptional and the staff are always welcoming and friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Food is amazing lovely staff as well. The restaurant closes at 9.30pm and we entered 8.55pm, yet the staffs accommodated us.

My server Kay was such a pleasure to be around and suggested the perfect meal. Everything from the drinks-entree- dessert were incredibly delicious. Definitely worth checking out if you're in New Plymouth

From the moment you walk in the doors a whole different world opens before you . You are greeted with a warm and welcoming smile . I Always get duck in love and have never been disappointed . Best thai in newplymouth I havent had a massama curry so authentic .. super happy and cheap pricing and a lovely thai man on the till overall could not fault one thing .. amazing
