Food was okay. We went there quite late for dinner. As Oamaru is a small town, The Last Post is one of the very few restaurants which still open late in the evening.

Holy moly, what a find. We went in on a busy Saturday night, no reservation, they said a bit of a wait for food, but we could sit. No worries, seated and ordered the special, which was eye fillet and a 'chicken burger'. When our food arrived it was superb. Cannot fault it. The burger was a beautifully done chicken breast with salsa and salad, and the steak ... as my husband said .. next level. We are used to Wellington fayre, and this blew that away. Salsa verse and dauphinoise potatoes just delicious. We are so glad to have found you. When we move down, we will return for sure. Great atmosphere and service as well.

"NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER!" - Initially stood outside & didn't expect much of a small little bar. Went in to play pool table & then ended up eating. Did not regret! Food was delicious & staff were very lovely! Would not have second thoughts on coming in again, if I'm ever in the area!

Great place! Very charming old building and the friendliest staff you could meet!! I indulge in a takeaway roast meal or Cod and salad at least once a week if not more and meals are absolutely delicious! I enjoy dining in too as they have a great outdoor space out the back for a lovely lunch in the sun! Highly recommend!

We went to Last Post as saw the sign saying Blue Cod, my favorite. On entering was charmed by the old English Pub theme. Staff were friendly and efficient. Food was delicious and plentiful was going to have a dessert but was to full, maybe next time. Great place to dine.

A nice venue with (mostly) great front of house staff. Good food from the kitchen and a nice place to hang out when they've got live music out the back. If they could separate the smoking area so the access for doesn't stay open (and let the cold breeze in) it'd be better, but overall a nice place to go for a feed and/or a few drinks.

Went for a friends birthday. A group of us were in the cortyard and had a great night. Food was yum and the free games of pool that nigh topped it off. We also brought our own cake which they were totally happy with.

Man alive! We had been to this restaurant on previous visits and really enjoyed the visit and the great food, so we went back on Tuesday night. We were seated in a very pleasant room, which we had to ourselves, and given the menu. I chose a seafood chowder entree and a seafood platter. You can see I'm crazy for kai moana. I fancy myself as a good judge of the quality of this food. The chowder was a generous portion and delicious. The seafood platter was not only delicious it was beautifully laid out, with all of my favourites. I had a ball! My wife ordered the pork which was again presented attractively, and was perfectly cooked. We finished off with a berry and chocolate ice cream sundae with our traditional two spoons. Another member of our party who has serious food allergies was worried about what she would eat, but the wonderful staff mixed and matched elements of the menu to ensure she has a wonderful meal. There is a great wine list, and a full bar in the restaurant. This is a must go if you are in Oamaru. The staff are obliging, friendly and very helpful and the chef is obviously a treasure. One of my favourite New Zealand restaurants, just a short walk from the Victorian part of the town, the steampunk museum, the penguin colony and the harbor.

A great Restaurant with great food, I had a mix grill which was delicious 😋 my wife had the burger which she enjoyed very friendly staff. The building has some history to it dating back to the 1800’s, you will find interesting photos of the era one I saw was of the local armed forces at a parade very interesting history.

We ordered from the lunch specials for $18 per meal. My wife had the ham steak and I had the pork schnitzel. The ham steak came with a grilled slice of pineapple, chips and salad. The pork schnitzel had two wedges of lemon and chips and salad as well. The portion size was good and the meals were satisfying. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

This restaurant should be crowded every night. The food is exquisite and plentiful, the service is awesome and the staff very welcoming and friendly. I would declare the chefs and the building a national treasure! The atmosphere was relaxing and the dining room has an amazing ambience that only a genuinely historic building has. It's styled as a "gastropub". Has daily specials usually a roast and a kitchen/chefs special plus the usual sorts of fare. Has Guinness on tap and a good range of other beers. Certainly a step up from some of the other pubs in the main street. And usually nowhere as noisy.

Tasty food and absolutely delightful staff. Little story: as we parked near the place, we encountered a difficulty with our car and went into the pub to ask for help. It was near closing time but they came out and had a look and helped us, and then took our orders even though the kitchen was closing. You saved our night, thank you!

I agree with what was said previously by others. Food excellent, a bit loud due to bar gusts and the average age is as said by others around 70 to 75. No young girls around. But as we where not there to meet young girls but a good wine and a good diner we give 4 stars. The little table we got was a bit too little and too narrow for large guys as we are.

Located in an old post office the building certainly has history. I had the lamb Shanks it was a very large serving. I couldn't finish and they were able to wrap it up for me to take away. There is courtyard seating undercover and outside. Menu has all the classic pub fare. Friendly staff.
