A friend of mine recommended me this place and I actually quite enjoyed it. The staff is friendly, food is delish, nice ambience. Highly recommend 'Bolani' from the menu (the stuffed bread)!! Its my all time favorite.

Great food. Hummus portion is a bit small. The serving for 2 portion is way too small meat wise but overloaded with rice. Burger was great, lamb mince was excellent and good portion.

Wonderful food !! We ordered Bolani in appetizers, chicken kebab that came with rice and salad, falooda.Falooda is a must try!! Bolani was also simple yet flavourful. Overall awsome. Best if you are looking for a different cuisine to try and enjoy.

I have had food from various Afghan restaurants in the past and this place is definitely top tier. Delicious halal food, good portions, reasonable prices, and friendly people. Ask for sauce on the side. I will come back again soon.

Loved their dumphukt and kebabs. Truly amazing. Soft meat, flavourful rice. Be cautious with their baklava. It tasted like stale oil and smelled off. But they said it’s tastes like that and not like turkish baklava. So maybe I’m wrong. But their pudding is amazing… very aromatic and graced with cardamom.

The quality is not always the same! Last try was very disappointing. Its like they didnt know their own menu or the owner is keep changing as well as the menu. I waited for nearly 1hour!!!! to get my take away! My baby fell to sleep while waiting and we realised they made a mistake when we got home! 1 portion of rice instead of two! Had to go back there to get the other portion. Would not try it again! Not recommended at all

Took an hour detour to try this restaurant as i love Afghani food. Was definitely worth it and loved the restaurant. The kobideh was great, the dampukht could have been more tender though. Staff was nice and dining area is beautiful as well.

We had the Mantoo, kabuli, bolani, and all were delicious. I never tried mantoo (dumplings) when i was in the country however Im glad we brought them. Next time we are in we will be keen to try the specials. Only critique is that the afghan naan wasn't cooked fresh, so they we cold. ngā mihi/Tasha kurr

Very delicious! I recommend the Sampler Kebab Platter for 2 ($28). The presentation was very beautiful and more than enough food for me and my pregnant [!!!] wife (and not to mention really yum!). Staff is friendly and although the food can take a bit, it is well worth the wait! 🇦🇫 😋 👍🏻 👍🏻

Google recommended this place, I didn't know that there's an Afghan restaurant in Palmerston North and I hadn't eaten Afghan food before. We decided to try and it was delicious. We got the 2 people special with Afghan naan as extra. 32 plus 3 nzd. It was more than enough with lots of different types of meat. Persian style rice. Worth the money and easy to find location - by the main square, in front of gorgeous brutalist government buildings.

Was an great dinning experience! Along with a tidy interior with cool decorations and soothing music playing. There was large spacious tables and comfy chairs. They had a great selection of mains which all looked so good I couldn't decide! In the end got a jucy, tender roast which was absolutely delicious. Overall a really great experience, would definitely go back and recommend it to anyone looking for a affordable, yummy dinner out! Also recommend the afghan desert it was super yum and light after a big meal.

Honestly was blown away by this place. Simply fantastic, able to accommodate a large group on a Saturday night instantly without booking. The service was friendly fast and helpful. Table was a great size and interior was well fitted and decorated. Drinks were reasonablly priced. Starting with the appetiser the Bolani (Pan fired mash potatoes with Spinach and spices) made for a delicious savoury pancake dipped in a terrific chutney was a bargain at $3. The main selection was outstanding and had a large variety with Rice, meat, vegetarian, dumplings, Kebabs all as options and even wraps/burgers/pizza as takeaway options. The Lamb Dumpukth (Afghan Roast) was terrific, meat came easily off the bone and was served with a tasty salad, rice or Naan bread for only $20, great value and portions. All the main options looked fantastic and may have to come back to try some more! Desert had limited options but the Firini (Afghani pudding) was a light and tasty hybrid of yoghurt custard and ice cream, melt in your mouth, not to rich and a great palate cleanser. Top notch stuff.

Absolutely fantastic food. I’ve eaten here 3 times and tried chicken, lamb and eggplant and all are so full of flavour. The service is super fast and the prices are really affordable, plus you can bring your own beer and wine saving heaps. Give it a go and support a small local restaurant.

Fast service, really friendly, a few vegan options. We had the eggplant dish with rice and salad which comes out on two plates person. Just don't have the yoghurt in the eggplant or the mayo on the salad. Such great value for just $17! They're really quiet on a Monday and Tuesday night, so get in there and support local business😁👍🏼. They also do take away.

Tasty substantial meals at a good price. We went with a birthday group, plenty of room upstairs and they managed very well. The place is looking nicely renovated too and is better deviated than some of the previous restaurants in that building. Friendly efficient staff. They do takeaway too.

This place is really, really, really good. Super tasty, classy yet casual atmosphere and great value for money. Some very good vegetarian and vegan options. I always eat here when I'm in town. Tonight I had a main, side and dessert with lovely delicate flavours and Im stuffed for just $21 - mind boggling really. Highly recommend!

This is a great destination for superb homestyle Afghan food. Tastefully decorated with middle eastern music playing in the background .The owners and staff are accommodating and courteous. The food is fabulous and full of flavour and reasonably priced. Recommend the Afghan roast with mint sauce which is tender and served with salad just right for lunch. For a treat Firini pudding, I could have eaten a large bowl absolutely delicious with a hint of rose water. Have to return to try other succulent dishes. Thank you.

Delicious new (to me) flavors, very authentic. The very friendly owner came to tell us a bit more about the food, so we got a little extra peak in the Afghan cuisine. Would definitely recommend a visit!

Very nice. Lamb dish was beautifully tender, fell off the bone. Subtly spiced, fragrant and minty. Green tea nicely presented on ornamental tray. Kirina dessert lovely. Cosy family restaurant a bit different from the rest. Well worth a visit.

The food is really great! Make sure you try the Kobedah Kebab and Afghan Palau. Vegetarian wise go for Banjan Boranee (Eggplant) with unleavened bread.

We went here for our bookclub dinner and every one of us had a delicious meal! I really enjoyed the leek and spinach dumplings. Lovely service, we were well looked after. Very reasonable prices too.

Nothing special, but at the prices, I shouldn't have expected more. $18 gets you, more or less, a flashed up mall meal. The meal was nice, but sort of bland, without the deep flavours and spices of Indian curries. I wouldn't go again for dinner - it seemed like they weren't prepared for a busy night, but having said that the meals arrived in a timely fashion. It was interesting to watch some other customers look disappointed with their meals, but for $18 what did they expect? A $28 restaurant meal? I ordered a $35 meal from a pub/restaurant in Feilding and got less food meal, but with lots more flavour. I think of the Afghan Darbar as a cafe/takeaway; if they were going to serve bigger meals to compete with other restaurants, then the prices would be shifting upwards, flavours would need to improve as well.
