Warm in winter. I stopped in for coffee with friends and the tables are a good size for meeting with a small group. The decor is understated, cozy and classy, and the service is prompt and very friendly. The front smoke-stop door is great for keeping the weather out, but is very heavy which causes some problems for folk in wheelchairs or those with mobility challenges. I found it well worth the visit because the coffee was lovely, and I stayed for quite a while rather than braving the weather!

Lovely Cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. Menu has some lovely variety and there are also cabinet foods available. Coffee was average. Service was lovely and I would return again.

A pretty busy cafe. Love the coffee and the brunch. The French Toast is wonderful. The Salmon with crispy potato is yummy but the serving size is pretty small.

Was looking forward to a special lunch at Elm today, but it did not live up to its good reputation. The menu is very 1990s, over-priced and unsuitable for a hot summer day. Service poor. We won't be back.

A very popular cafe with delicious collection (not a lot though) of non vegetarian items. The prices for most items are above $27. While the taste is good, the quantity isn't much though (you can easily feel hungry after 2 hours). Lots of seating, with limited/no dedicated parking options.

Have heard great things about this place, was rather let down. The eggs Benedict and French toast were ok, the coffee tasted alright but was given a latte instead of a flat white, only had the one drink as not once were we offered another. The staff were polite but not well trained in upselling. The big issue I had with the place were the chairs, they are awful to sit in especially when you are not stick thin. You cannot sit back in them at all and we were both forced to perch on the edge of the seat while eating.

Our waiter, a young dude with arm tattoos, gave us such good service that we struck up a rapport, we remember him from a different cafe and he was just as excellent this time around. The food was outstanding, the service swift and warm, the atmosphere very family friendly. All in all a fantastic time and would highly recommend. We will be back even for the service alone.

Great fast service from the friendly wait staff. A comprehensive selection on the menu for lunch and dinner. The coffee is strong and just the right temperature. The seafood chowder is to die for, the chicken linguine with chorizo is my fav, you can order a half portion which is plenty for lunch....but I could easily demolish a full serving because it is so delicious! Wine available if you wish. Nice selection of sandwiches and sweets in the cabinet if you are in a hurry... Lovely sitting in the courtyard in front of the cafe on a sunny day. I have dined here many times and never been disappointed.

Visiting Palmerston from Auckland and was taken to this delicious cafe. Must say one of the best cafes I have been to in NZ. The chicken liver pate with whiskey marinated figs was world class and the salmon and beef salads were highlights! The crepe for desert we could of thought we were in France.

This was a catch up and brunch with a friend. Lisa chose The Elm as she had not eaten there before. It was another lovely morning. I had crepes with blueberries and lemon curd. Lisa had prosciutto, tomato, feta brioche (and more) which she said was delicious. My crepes were very tasty too washed down with a couple of coffees. It was lovely to see my friend and to have such a nice meal. The service was friendly and very good.

I went to the Elm Cafe this morning for brunch with a friend. We had a lovely server called Faith, her customer service was amazing. She checked up on us frequently with a smile every time. Definitely going to come back again. I have "Faith" in humanity again.

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G Staff, food, service, drinks, menu, everything. We came in a couple of weeks ago, I'm hard to please and very fussy when I go out but the menu caught my eye as soon as we sat down. Being in hospitality myself, I take notice of the little things. Quick, easy service straight away, even though it was full and busy. Plenty of staff but it was good, noone was standing around.. everyone making sure customers were happy. Made service efficient and pleasurable. I can say our meals were the most amazing meals I've had for lunch anywhere I've been in palmerston north. I've been to 90% of cafe/restaurants here. Full of flavour and just a pure quality. We had 5 different options off the menu, sorry cant remember what they were called.. but everyone was deeply satisfied and happy with what we all got. I'm raving about this place and you will definitely see us back again!! A little outdated decor and layout, but that's an easy fix. Wouldnt know about this place if it wasnt for google and word of mouth though, being hidden away like it is but I truly can't fault anything. Keep up your little hidden paradise, good job staff. See you very soon!

Have been frequenting The Elm Café for 17 'years... Feel like part of the family. Could not count the number of fantastic lunches & dinner's we've had.. I always feel welcome at The Elm. They always accommodate a booking if they have space. The food is ALWAYS consistent.. I mean ALWAYS... YUM!

Great cafe. I've been very pleased with their food, whether for breakfast/lunch/dinner or just a coffee. They do the best muffins at a very reasonable price, and a great iced coffee. I love the courtyard, a great feel to it, with options for sun or shade.

There is cabinet food for those on the run and an assortment of cookies in jars.There are magazines to read, caution with the tables as they have a tendency to tip.
