I just want to say a gigantic thank you to the lovely people that work here. We arrived at 7:50pm and stayed until 9:30pm, the food did take a wee while to come out but that was to be expected for the amount of food we ordered, the restaurant says it closes at 9 and the staff put up with us staying and enjoying all the food they offered, food quality was amazing and so tasty. Thank you again.

What an amazing place. For 50$ I had the chefs recommendation. Which had all their signature dishes.. and pretty filling too. Much better than YATAI at Featherston st. Highly recommended. And amazing service.. The dessert was ok creme brûlée. Included in the meal but prolly skip dessert if u r going for Ala Carte.. ————— Visited again sept 2021. Great food. Worth the money spent. This time has prawns and mushroom balls for entree. And other dishes that I have forgotten name. Definitely worth visiting..

Beautiful restaurant and fantastic service. We opted for 1 set each. Perfect size (we were full but not stuffed) and everything was so delicious. Plenty of people coming in and out and the staff were quick to clean tables and set new comers. Bathroom was very tidy also.

Absolutely awesome, I had the seaweed salad followed by a prawn katsu curry. Both dishes banging with flavour, nice contrasts of textures, and great presentation. Unfortunately I didn't have the presence of mind to take a picture of the salad before I had destroyed the presentation and tucked in (it was flavour that triggered wanting to have a photo). Service was friendly, swift and attentive. Could easily be the best Japanese food I had in NZ to date.

Great authentic Japanese food. Vegetable food plate was super delicious and well prepared. Staff is very friendly. Just one ⭐️ for the rice, it was delicious but the portion was super tiny, it should be a bit more.

We went there for my birthday and Haru was packed. I loved everything from the ambience to cuisine. I lived in SA for some time and it is not so easy to find a great place which serves close to authentic food. The dishes I had were divine, boasting with the presentation to die for. Photos speak for themselves. So happy about this discovery as my son's friends recommended Haru for a special occasion. 10 out of 10.

Better than expected! Food was absolutely delicious. We got the $50 Kaiseki Main dish - it is made for one person but we two adults shared this and two appetisers and it was more than enough. The eggplant was superb! Try the moochi donuts and the brownie for desert. I'm not a fan of moochi but this is spectacular. Thanks for the candle on the brownie for our 4 year old's birthday, it was a lovely end to her already amazing day. Great experience!

Amazing food, service, and atmosphere! Found this restaurant during our road trip and we loved it. Had 4 from the menu - Haru Lunch Gozen Teriyaki Salmon, Chicken Miso Katsu Set, Spicy Salmon Roll, Teriyaki Aburi Salmon Roll. These were all amazing and well portioned with good price. It's one of the best Japanese restaurants that I've ever been too (I wish it was in Auckland!) We would visit again when we visit Palmerston North in future.

Went here in March (bit late posting). I’ve been here several times and it’s been consistently good. I’d recommend getting a sharing platter so you get a variety of some of the best things on the menu. The eggplant appetiser is also a must have. There are also plenty of options for vegans/vegetarians.

Wow! What an amazing restaurant. Quite possibly the best Japensese I have had. Totally pumping on a Wednesday night and I'm glad we booked a week out. Service was very fast and friendly, staff were lovely. All six of us had the $50 main set box and were not disappointed, I think we ate everything. The desert options with that were a nice extra. Creme brulee tasted like something you would experience in France. Great wine list too. The pricing was excellent for the quality of food. Can't wait to eat here again.

It’s the best Japanese food you can get in palmy. Though it’s not the best, nor is it authentic Japanese food because it’s fusion. It is still a good fancy restaurant. I think the dinner set is the most worth it though I feel really bad for the dishwasher ... Not sure why it’s not a bento box. Nevertheless, try not to come on a Friday night between 6:30-7:30, you may be waiting at least 45 min for your food. I don’t know why they can’t just serve us the miso soup first ?! Anyways, like I said, it’s the best Japanese restaurant in palmy.

Had a great night at Haru! The Mio Sparkling Sake was good, it had no alcohol taste. We had Mixed Tempura and Takoyaki as Entree. Then Teppenyaki Sizzling Plate with Beef and Salmon, and Chicken Curry. Last was the most delicious dessert platter!

Wow what can I say about Haru. The food is incredible. I got a set meal and the combination of different food items and the sauces within it married perfectly together. Perhaps the best food I've tried in Palmerston North. The atmosphere that haru tried to create with the Instagrammable lights above your head, to the waitresses dressed in kimono. The experience of food and being within the restaurant itself creates a whole nother dining experience that is just really high quality as a whole. Definitely recommend.

Fabulous food. Great staff. Lovely ambience. We had a celebratory lunch and arrived early as others had suggested. Good move. It wasn't long before the place was full..always a good sign for a restaurant. We'll be back again and again. Love Haru.

One of the best Japanese restaurant in my opinion. I live in a different town to the restaurant but each time I am in the area, this restaurant is a must to visit. Food are very well presented and good value for money. Small team of friendly staff who provides excellent service. I would highly recommend this place.

HARU is set inconspicuously on Broadway, with barely a storefront or sign - however, don't let first looks deceive. This Japanese eatery's modern interior and extensive menu is great for a night out, and their small plates are excellent for sharing with friends. I got the Vegetarian Platter (pictured here), and was impressed by the variety and flavours - the mushroom skewers were a standout. There's plenty for meat-eaters and non-meat eaters alike, and many of their dishes are gluten-free by nature. Reservations are recommended, as by 7pm on a Wednesday night all tables were taken. We will definitely be returning soon!

I've been here twice now and gotten the same thing both times. The food is really good and the service is ok, but the portions are quite small, especially the rice (it's about two tablespoons of rice in a tiny bowl)! I always leave still hungry. It's also a bit expensive considering the size of their portions

For New Zealand standard, this would be considered as a very good Japanese restaurant. Most of the dishes were delicious with a few exceptions where they simply didn't use fresh enough ingredients, or just completely botched the execution. Sushi nigiri and the takoyaki were of good standard, while the kaarage chicken was a total disaster. The chicken pieces were covered in a hard layer of what seemed to be fried corn flakes. 0 points for authenticity, texture and flavour. For the sashimi and sushi nigiri, the portion were incredibly stingy. The sashimi pieces were half the size of what they would/should be. A couple of pieces didn't taste exactly fresh. Is it worth going? No. Especially when you weigh up the price against the portion size.

Delicious, beautifully presented food. Great atmosphere. I ordered the Haru Kaiseki Ryori multi course meal so you can try a bit of everything. All of it was excellent, but the highlights for me were the fresh sashimi, beef tataki, and karaage chicken. The desserts are amazing, the creme brulee was brilliant, and the chocolate ball is a piece of theatre on a plate (preorder that as they might run out).

They do every thing well. Only thing to note is they are not open till 230 for lunch. We went in at 1:47 and was told the kitchen was closed. I asked why it says 230 online and the reply I got was they close at 145ish.
