Lovely spot during the day for coffee and churros. Best chai latte in Palmy because theres no skimping on the spice. However we wished that dinner was more flavorful. The mocktails were delicious and made up for it.

A wonderful, enchanting, beautiful artsy Mexican-inspired cafe/restaurant/cocktail bar I stumbled across looking girl lunch and coiffed after encountering a disillusioning ableist cafe along the same street (a victim of its own success), that preaches about its ‘mobility values’ and accessibility, yet wouldn’t hold a table for 2 people, two with mobility issue one in a wheelchair, under an extremely stressful health nightmare, shunned and unable to even book a table, we were extremely fortunate to find the kindest of gentleman who wasn’t even open at the time - yet kindly opened his doors for us to book a table for the next day. If you love Frida Kahlo, an inspiring artistic vibe, gorgeous setting with plenty of room, booths, and other seating arrangements, gorgeous bar, and art to admire & completely accessible - not to mention the delicious food, coffee and full bar, without feeling like one in the day - this is the place to go - a cultured place with kind people, excellent service, great seating and accessible toilets. And the best maître D and service I’ve had the pleasure to meet in a long while. Kindness is a value that is missing in many hospitality venues these days, as is service. Libre has it in spades. Support local, support kindness and those who support others in the kiwi way! Love ❤️ libre! Thank you - we will be back - for those delicious tacos alone!! And to make my way through the rest of the menu and cocktail list.. 🥰

Beautiful place a for our leisurely lunch! Love the decor. We tried the beef check taco, fish taco and corn chips and guacamole. The jarritos are also a firm favourite. Great service.

Wednesday night bingo is amazing... We were lucky enough to go here on bingo night which was and absolute blast! The food was brilliant as well, I definitly recommend the quesadillas and anything with the fried chicken... So good!

Was really disappointed with my Margirita coming out in a tumbler felt like I was having a orange Juice. Tacos too thin and soggy . Pork was tough and stringy. Fried chicken Taco was amazing . Guacamole really guys up the anty I could have made a better one at home!

Great service, friendly staff and DELICIOUS food. The best tasting grilled corn I've ever had and super tasty chicken. I split the Frida's platter with a friend, which gave us a taste of most things on the menu. The cocktails were great too! Some items are a bit out of the student budget, but worth every cent!

We ordered the “Libre Feasting Plate” and it was very filling and tasty (3 tortillas or corn chips w/ choice of taco meat, guac, refried beans, Mexican rice, sour cream). We came opening night so things were perhaps not as streamlined as they otherwise would be but the food was delicious and service was friendly and accommodating. I expect things will likely be better when we come back and this will become a 5-star review 😉 Glad to have a good Mexican restaurant in Palmy! Clap

Cocktails are super good! 💯 recommended. Ordered 4 different cocktails and all super nice- "Suzie Wong" "spice pineapple", "paradiso" "oaxacan - quite strong not fruity", would definitely go back for that and dessert. Food is ok, service is good too.

The waitress was very apologetic and had our meals recooked, with no fuss or delay. My enchiladas were top notch! Well worth waiting for. I will definitely return asap

This place could be amazing. The staff and bar were great. The decoration is awsome. The food is just a huge let down and could be easily improved. The menu is too big so everything is just at best average and not very fresh. Sadly Its easier to make better Mexican at home.

Last night was our first time dining at Libre and won’t be our last! Ordered the Frida platter to share and enjoyed every last bite! The fried chicken was so tender. Loved the tacos, my favourite was the fish. Mango margarita was delicious. The staff were warm and welcoming and the service was very attentive and prompt. Thanks for a great night!

Went to Libre for a girls dinner on Friday night. Awesome vibe, drinks are top notch and the food is great. I had the feasting plate with de pastor and it was very generous. Our server Maria was the best!! So friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely go again and highly recommend.

Amazing food, super friendly staff, great decorations and they have jarritos!! Palmerston North is not known for having great Mexican food until I went to Libre last Sunday evening. The carne asada burrito and chicken quesadilla were delicious and very filling. Definitely the closest you can get to athentic Mexican flavour. Whoever was the cook between 6pm-7pm deserve a rise! You got the flavours I been craving for the longest time 😁😁🌯🌮

Took my wife in for a lunch date. We had the beef cheek s,low cooked lamb tacos, chicken tinga and fried chicken tacos. Absolutely delicious. Generous portions, great layers of flavours. Loved the habanero hot sauce and salsa. Churo waffles went down an absolute treat. Great atmosphere on a dreary rainy day. Excellent service. Very attentive. A++ would recommend and we'll be back!

Three of my friends and I had dinner at Libre and I have one word to describe it: Fantastic. I have been in Mexico DF many times and Libre can easily challenge the Mexican cuisine. The Margaritas and the pork and lamb tacos were just superb; also the churros!! I also had a glass of the Spanish Chardonnay which actually blew my mind. The service was great and the staff are very friendly.

This was our first time at Libre, and it won't be the last... we ordered the Frida's platter (or something like that), it came with fried chicken, 4 tacos, Elotes, corn chips, salsa and guaq.. It was all amazing.. All of it. I'm often worried I won't get enough, but this was a pretty decent portion for my wife and I. fried chicken was crispy yet tender and well seasoned, tacos were all great, and I had never had elotes before but they really surprised me how good corn can be. Great staff (friendly, knowledgable and polite) and awesome comfortable atmosphere. We will be back. This place has been missing in Palmy

I had been eagerly anticipating the opening of a much needed Mexican restaurant in PN for months. The three of us went to Libre for Breakfast a week or two after they opened... The decor and atmosphere were great and the staff were friendly and welcoming however the food was disappointing. I had a breakfast burrito, it was very small, lukewarm and not particularly tasty and at $15.00 I felt, way overpriced. They need to go down to Wellington and taste the breakfast burrito at Sweet Mothers Kitchen!

Fantastic new Mexican restaurant in town. The atmosphere when we visited was really good, place was packed, lots of noise (in a good way). They don't take reservations so we had a very short wait for a table in which we were offered drinks/food menu but were seated so quickly we didn't get a chance to order. Has a great range of brewunion beers on tap and a couple guest taps which is great. We went with the fiesta platter which gave us 4 tacos of our choosing, fried chicken, elotes and corn chips which was great option. The tacos were fantastic, a really good selection of authentic Mexican flavours and I would say there would be few places in NZ where you are going to get a better offering which is pretty amazing to say of a place in Palmerston North. As mentioned the place was very busy but service was great. Really great addition to Palmerston North, highly recommended and we will be coming back very soon.

We had a lovely meal and experience! Slightly more pricey and slightly less spiced than we expected and disappointed that the churros were actually waffles. Bunuelos might be an good alternative? Otherwise great start to a new place in town.

Its a funny thing, the food was nice, drinks were nice too... but the portion size was ridiculously small... my nephew got nachos with chicken which makes it $25... and we thought, thats great, hes 12 hed have a decent meal.... it was such a tiny amount, I have to give him some of our food and desserts... which we normally dont do.... I want to say 2 STARS but itd just be too mean... Lucky we have food at home... its not good coming home from a restaurant still hungry!!!
