P.Amazing service and great pricing. Really enjoyed steamed bao bun and mashed potato. Signature lamb shoulder was great, crispy on the outside and tender inside. Would come again for the duck roll as many people ordered it XD
L.Probably ordered too much but it was amazing so we didn't regret it one little bit. This place consistently turns out very high quality delicious food time and time again. A few craft beers and some gorgeous wine, friendly, quick service, just perfect from start to finish. Thank you for a great start to Easter. Can't wait to return.

D.This is a great place for a lovely beer and a fantastic meal. The lamb shoulder is a must have. The cauliflower asparagus and couscous were excellent dishes to accompany the lamb. This established would rival the best in any of out big city's without a doubt. I can highly recommend spending some of your time and money at The Fat Farmer.

M.We spent a night in Palmerston North on route to Napier and after a lot of research we phoned to book a table at the Fat Farmer. We bought our 5 month old daughter in her pram, which wasn't a problem although we were initially given a high table but easily swapped to a low table on request.
We decided to skip entrees and go straight to the main course and we're glad we did because the lamb is a huge meal for two people, although you definitely need to order an additional side. The food itself was delicious and well cooked. The drinks were good, although I personally find the Kiwi cocktail to be way too sweet for my liking (the APA on tap war nice however)

G.Came here with my family of seven and was told the menu was made for sharing. Ordered about 5 starters a few mains and a dessert each. Was absolutely disappointed when they came out. It was definitely not something to share. Literally one bite each and it was gone. There was no gauge on how big each starter was or serving size on the menu even the waitress couldn't tell us the reccomend amount to order for a table this size. The service was great. Lovely staff. And I'd absolutely reccomend this place for a date night or to share with a friend. The food we did eat was incredible. The meat you didn't even need to chew as it melted in your mouth and there wasnt a single dish we had that we all didn't love. Just a shame about the serving sizes otherwise an awesome little place.

M.Went here a few weeks ago. It’s a spot I always go to when I’m visiting Palmy. The food is consistently tasty and there’s a lot of it. It’s got a nice outdoor spot on a sunny day and it’s cosy indoors in winter.

L.It was a busy Friday night. We didn’t have a booking. It had been a long drive and we were hungry. Watching the plates come out we didn’t want to gamble trying to find another place that looked as great as this! They were so friendly in letting us quickly eat and go before the next booking. And we are so glad they did. We didn’t have anything that wasn’t good, and a few things were fantastic. I highly recommend the bruschetta and the cauliflower. Entire service was with huge smiles and generosity. The vibes were great and love the decor.

D.No one here was a farmer. But several patrons were fat (including me) so.... I guess. I just pretended I was a farmer. Which was good till i sent some of the patrons off to the meatworks.
Good food, good times, good service, good drinks. Only one down side is the tables are very tall and we got backless stools that where not comfortable.

r.Incredible food and outstanding customer service. We were a big group with terrible decision-making skills but the waitress handled us with the patience of a saint. Every dish we ordered was delicious. My personal favorite was the slow roasted cauliflower. I really didn't realise that cauliflower could taste that good!

T.Nice bright place. The food was good. We ordered a number of plates to share and the waitress was friendly and helpful. She suggested we had perhaps slightly over ordered and so we followed her advice and both ended up full and satisfied. We tried a good selection of slow and fast dishes as well as desert and enjoyed each dish. I felt a couple of the dishes were slightly overpowered by the sauce but my husband disagreed so it is a personal preference. The caulifolour was tasty and I will definitely try and replicate it at home but my favourite was the date cheese cake
T.Not bad. Food was pretty good, but found it odd that the meals are designed to share. It limits your meal choices as you have to agree on which dishes to order. For example, I was keen for the white bait fritters, however my friend had never tried them. I prefer to order what I want to order whilst out for dinner.
C.Was lucky enough to go here to celebrate our wedding anniversary this evening. As I have some allergies the staff went above and beyond to ensure that all the food I had was safe for me. They adapted each course and it was all totally delicious. The staff were all courteous and friendly. Will definately be going going back again.

D.The most amazing food available in Palmerston North! Everything on the menu is amazing and the selection of the sharing plates means you can try more than one thing. My favourites are the Fried Chicken, Goats Cheese, Chicken Bao Buns and Lambs Chips. The whole atmosphere of the restaurant is both classy and relaxing with different areas depending on the night. The lovely outdoor area is great in summer for some after work drinks and the indoor seating area is great for a more special occasion. The staff are so kind and friendly its always a pleasure to go down to The Fat Farmer. Couldn't recommend more.

So be prepared to pay for what others eat! some people in our group only ate one dish & ended up paying for a full meal. This policy is only stated on the in-house menu & not the web site. J.Nice wee pub. I like that there are disparate areas to sit and the staff are very friendly. A relaxing place and I have never had any issues finding a free park, either in their carpark or on the street. Not a huge selection of beers but the ones they have are great. I have not eaten here but certainly like the atmosphere of the place.
L.So having decided to eat here I went online to read about other diner's experiences. Firstly they mentioned the service. And so shall I. The service is excellent. Not only are the staff pleased to see you but seem really interested in helping you with advice on how to get the most from your evening. And it was busy when we were there. But we had probably 6 visits to our table in the first 10mins of being there.
And now the food. Menu items are priced according to whether they are to share or not. $20 means you aren't sharing and $42 means you are. Side dishes however need to be added to make up a complete meal.
We chose to share the beef short ribs, side serving of mashed potato and a serving of broccoli. It was excellent. The beef fell off the bone and the potatoes were delicious. To finish we chose to share the sticky date pudding. A fantastic night.
It's a busy bustling well organised restaraunt with great food with just the most delightful staff. Throughly recommended.

A.Been meaning to go since it opened and was not disappointed. The inside has been completely remodeled since its days as the VIK and is much more open. Has kept the craft beer aspect which is awesome and they the had an impressive range of bottles/cans as well as Tuatara on tap. Food wise has both sharing plate options and larger main type dishes. We went for one sharing plate as an entree and then a larger plate and it was more than enough food. The quality was excellent and is definitely one of the best dining experiences I've had in Palmerston North. Casual atmosphere and great staff I can't recommend it enough. We will be back!
L.Had dinner with friends and went for several tapas. Started with bruschetta which was a great start. Then we had the jerk chicken and the flavors explode in your mouth - wanted more! Then the lamb shoulder was falling off the bone and absolutely delicious . To top off the night I had the sticky date pudding - all I can say is OMG! We will definitely be back. Avg cost between us (including bottle of wine) was $42 per head. Extremely good value for money.Waitress was awesome too.

The food was quick ..excellent wine list and the food was to die for!! Normally we dine in Welly or Aucks and the food is a notch above any of those places elsewhere.
