True fine dining in a modest restaurant on an equally modest street. The exterior tells you NOTHING about the standard of cuisine you will enjoy inside. EASILY the same standard as any fine dining in Auckland or indeed elsewhere, but without the price, formality, and pomp.

We dined with friends and had a 6 course meal with wine matching. Each course was superb and the wine with that was matched with was a great compliment to the food. Each dish was more amazing than the last. The front of house person was amazing and kept everyone fully informed with what each course was but also was attentive when asked for something extra. Great value for money. Would highly recommend. It is so amazing to be able to say we have such a wonderful restaurant here in Paraparaumu.

Helen has the most innovative approach when designing her menus, her incredible ability to combine diverse and interesting ingredients to create phenomenal flavours and textures makes her food exceptional. In the 4 years since I’ve been going to 50-50 I’ve rarely had the same dish twice and I’m consistently surprised and delighted with the range and creativeness of the courses on offer, each dish is beautifully presented with flair and attention to detail. Helen’s commitment to using, fresh, local, foraged and healthful ingredients and her generosity in accomodating dietary restrictions has made 50-50 my most favourite restaurant in New Zealand. Having had the privilege to enjoy degustation meals at top restaurants around the world for over 20 years, I feel qualified to say that 50-50 is not only outstanding value for money, but it’s also a world class dining experience which I highly recommend at my own peril (as it’s already impossible to make a booking at short notice). This is the third time we have visited and I think February's menu was perhaps my favourite, which is not to say the others haven't been excellent. It's just that I can't decide which of the 9 courses was the best, as they all were. Well done. We thoroughly enjoyed the wine matches - cleverly picked - and were very impressed that you even had a non-alcoholic match too. This was very well received by our designated driver and each match was so very well thought out - a lot of work went into that. It's such a good idea. Another brilliant evening with knowledgeable, friendly and attentive staff and it was lovely to be welcomed back - what attention to detail! As usual, cant wait for the next time. Service is impeccible and the degustation menu on offer is fabulous. And ever changing. On this occasion I dined with my Partner, but we intend to book the Chef's table on our next visit. Have returned to dine at 50:50 many times. Perfect for special occasions but also just for an evening out. You can order either their 6 or 9 course menu, with alterations for food allergies, and with or without wine matching. The menu keeps changing to keep things interesting. Gorgeous food presented like artwork, which your server will explain to you as it's brought out. We always ask for the menu to be left on the table to remind us what's next. Not a large place, bookings ESSENTIAL, but they do cater for groups. Indoor dining only. If you love food, this is the place to go.

A visit to 50-50 is a very special occasion. I have been twice and loved both visits. I find it exciting to see what the next course is - referring back to the menu is interesting! It's such a lovely experience eating a menu that has been designed without me having to make any decisions - I just arrive and relax. I also enjoy that it takes me out of my comfort zone. The friendly, enthusiastic and informative manner of Helen and all her staff is also a delight. So lovely that the chef pops over to your table to deliver a course and say "hi". The food and service are such a highlight that I prefer the intimacy of just being a couple or a small group who are all interested in the dining experience. Definitely a place for a special occasion (and who says a special occasion can't be regular!).

Spectacular restaurant which in our view is the best in all of Wellington and its surrounding regions. The food is stunning, created by a chef who is at the top of the game and a genuine cuisine artist. Delectable dishes that are beautifully presented with subtle, complementary and at-times surprising flavours. Great service in a pleasant environment led by a calm and collected head chef. We will be more than happy to make the trip back up the coast from Wellington for some more unique and extraordinary dining pleasure.

Loved the set up - a small, intimate place which gives them the advantage of giving the customer the best service they can. Had an amazing 6 course menu with my family on Valentine's Day, what a treat! Chef Helen is an artist, every dish so elegantly presented and bursting with delicious flavours. We have been here several times. It is my favorite place to dine. Their set menu is highly recommended, the food pairings are well matched and the wait staff explain what everything on your plate is. The menu changes regularly. I recommended you ask to keep a copy of the menu on your table so you can refer back to it.

We had a GREAT experience at 50-50, our food was amazing and the flavour combinations in the dishes we tried were both unexpected and perfect. Yes the portions are small as one expects with fine dining, but we were surprised and pleased by the complementary roast potatoes (which were delicious!) that we assume were provided to help fill our bellies without distracting us from the experience. They were also careful to help us with some dietary restrictions in one of our group. Also the maitre d' was hilarious. Overall a great night.

Waiter was incredibly amazing with how he was able to serve all the tables on his own, sadly he didn't tell us our meal was being cooked from scratch and we waited for over 45 mins for our one course to be served. We watched some tables being served three courses while we waited. He was upset with me for asking where ours was, and I noticed from then on he never returned to our table to top up my water whilst all other tables continued to have theirs continuously topped up. Disappointing after the waiting my pork belly was dry so perhaps overcooked, and the potatoes had obviously been cooked ages ago, they were so hard we had difficulties cutting a couple of them.
