If you love meat you have to try this place out. The brisket, pastrami and Mac and cheese was a great combo!! Dry chicken wings were also cooked to perfection seasoning was nice and spicy. The vibe in the outdoor area was super chill and decor of the indoor restaraunt is pretty cool. Staff were friendly and service was great. Will be eating here again very soon...

This time around I haven't enjoyed it as much as my first time. First time there were no covid restrictions etc and this time it was. Also with the costs increase they had to take pork ribs off the menu and we actually mainly went for that! Usually it would cost $40 something for ribs but with the inflation its around 70 and they decided to take them off the menu anyway it is not the company fault but the govt! Howerver, the music is too loud and the wings i had dont have any salt on them. Will come back when there are pork ribs on the menu. 😊

I always wanted to go to Blue Ox Babe and so when my husband suprised me with a dinner date, I was so happy. We decided to order their brisket burger with a side of fries and slaw. We were not dissapointed. Service were fantastic and the staff was very friendly and helpful. My only suggestion is to add platters to the menu where a little bit of everything is on there. Otherwise fantastic food and service.

Amazing brisket, done how it should be. Fantastic welcoming and knowledgeable team. We dined in with a great gin and aperol spritz. They also have takeaway too. Highly recommend

This is the 2nd or 3rd time I've eaten here. They specialise in American BBQ and food is of a uniform high standard. Today my mate & I decided on a burger each. He ordered a Triple Stack Brisket Cheese Burger and I ordered a Pork Belly Cheese Burger. (Sorry about the pics, we'd started to chow down before I thought to take some photos) We each had half before swapping and both agreed that the Brisket burger was the better of the two. Quite honestly, neither burger was in the "wowee, I gotta get another of those" category. Further at $26 a burger, we both felt that the burger size didn't live up to expectations. I've certainly had better meals than that at this establishment. I can't say I was disappointed with this visit... Perhaps underwhelmed might be a better descriptor.

Very friendly and helpful staff and great food was just too good! I got the beef cheeck, brisket and Mac and cheese. For sure making sure I get the loaded fries and Mac and cheese sides when I go again 😃

What a great place! We had the most wonderful experience. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the food is absolutely amazing. My favourites were the brisket, Thai sausage, picked cucumber and the BBQ sauce, but everything was fabulous right down to the cocktail. There are so many lovely little touches, like the sauce dispensers. A really unique dining experience and I would love to go back. Thank you.

Great food and such friendly staff. The beef brisket is an absolute must, slow cooked for 2 days... what more could you ask for... even better is the brisket burger, I was salivating just watching them put it together! Good beer on tap, great conversations to be had. Recommend this place to everyone 👌👍

Great food and awesome staff ！The staff was very friendly to tell me how to order and the characteristics of each dish when he learned that it was our first time here. The special dish I forgot the name, it's pork belly soaked in syrup is delicious, even if I don't like sweets. The only regret is that we didn't get beef short rib this time. When can I get it?

We went out last night with the kids - It was the second time we have been and just as fab both times. Extremely helpful, happy and polite staff, excellent food and a margarita slushy to die for! They deal with the red light restrictions well and efficiently and it didn't stop us enjoying our dining experience. Would totally recommend :) Unfortunately no pics as we scoffed the lots as soon as it came.

My husband and I wanted to try this place for a while and decided to take some family and our one year old son so we could try everything and we were not disappointed all the meats were so tender and juicey and the sides were delicious! This was the first time we have taken our son out to dinner (thanks covid) and he did decide when he had had enough to throw his food on the floor and the kind staff wouldn't let us clean it up even though we asked for a broom, so thank you from this worn out mumma for a enjoyable night out with great food and excellent service, we will be back ❤

I have eaten BBQ in Texas and Louisiana and Blue Ox Babe can stand proud, it is as good as anything I have tried in the USA and by far the best I have tried in NZ.

Love blue ox babe. Best meat in Auckland. Epic atmosphere. Clean bathrooms clean tables. Very unique place. Only downside is working close to them and smelling their delicious smoked meat being cooked and being starving hungry all day!!

Great to see the big smoker for all to see in the back of the house. We had a great lunch here at the Blue ox. Spent quite a fair bit actually. Brisket was definitely the star of the show and the pork ribs the supporting act. Although perhaps more of a personal taste, was hoping the pork ribs was glazed. Coleslaw was great and curly fries was a hit with the family. The macaroni and cheese tasted a bit bland for what it's worth. The brisket burger was spot on! Only a 4 today but reviewable in the future. Having been to many similar US BBQ houses in Sydney and Melbourne, there's definitely a high bar I can't get rid of. All in all great venue and awesome service.

We called ahead on the morning we wanted to eat at the Blue Ox Babe, which wasn't my smartest idea as I know they get very busy and fill up, however, the lady we spoke to was very helpful and got us a table at midday. When we arrived there was already a queue of people waiting for the doors to open, a great sign!! Once in, we were quickly seated and shown the ropes. We ordered our cuts up at the counter in true American BBQ style and got a good look at the huge offset BBQ rig they run! We got the Beef cheek, pork belly, and sausage with sides of the brisket beans and pickles for lunch. The food arrived quickly and with a smile with great service again. All of the food was cooked very well, without any overly strong flavours to overwhelm the meat. A great lunch, in a great looking venue. Just a shame I couldn't get hold of a sticker or t-shirt to commemorate the occasion. Guess I'll just have to go back!

It was really good. We have been to this place many times. It was good to see that they are compliant with health guidelines by the government. The only reason for the 4 star is WE MISS THE BELLY. We hope it will be back soon. Cheers!

Great friendly, informative staff. Brisket was amazing so were the ribs!! The chicken was tasteless, left us wondering why they were $4 each? For $26 The Brisket burger was small and the meat was dry. This is our second time visiting here. Our first visit left us amazed and absolutely happy. Second time we were extremely disappointed. We don't mind paying more money for great food, but the food was way overpriced and disappointing.

The food was absolutely divine! The meat was cooked to perfection and the sides were delicious. The venue was much much bigger than I expected, definitely pays to turn up early to beat the queues and ensure the meat you want doesn’t sell out before you order. Great vibe at this place and they have a decent kids play area which kept the children safely occupied while we focused on enjoying the meal. The staff are happy to box up any leftovers so don’t be shy with trying the various meats available 👌🏻

No ribs available today, did that damper the experience? Hell no. Tried the pork belly, wings, loaded fries with brisket and slaw 10/10. Customer service? 10/10. Nicely done team, everything was brilliant.

This place is always heavily booked and I found out why on the weekend. Firstly the staff here are amazing, the service is some of the best Ive experienced in NZ. Which compliments some of the best brisket I've ever had Anywhere including Texas. The ribs were tender and delicious and the sides were also great. I'll be back

The best ribs I've had and one of the main reasons why we go here. Unfortunate that they were sold out of them before 7 tonight. Hoping in the future that there will be a limit on how many can be ordered for each group, to ensure that everyone who has booked in has a chance of ordering them.

So Good! Tasty as food, I think the brisket was my favorite but the ribs were definitely a close second. A big shout out to the super helpful staff with the tips and suggestions for what to eat and portion sizes for our group.

Great concept and very nice premises with a HUGE mother of a smoker but.... the taste missed the spot 🥺 1/2 rack of ribs and side of brisket I ordered was 44 dollars on the steep side but wouldnt have a problem if the food was outstanding.... which it isnt... I like my ribs with the meat dripping and falling off the bone and with a smokey bbq sauce but not too much that it takes away the flavour of the actual meat... but these ones here you have to chew the meat off the bone and the sauce/ what ever it was maybe seasoning overwhelmed the taste of the ribs like a paprika seasoning spicy to the lips and made the ribs...well unenjoyable... now the brisket was the 1st time I've had it was juicy and nice looking but I couldnt taste it because if the stuff on the ribs was over powering and everything I ate taste like the seasoning on the ribs :( I think if you had a choice of seasoning or sauces for the ribs like a more traditional flavour or flavors that would satisfy the masses more than paprika or what ever that spice is in there now. On a positive note the staff were outstanding super friendly and helpful and explained the process with a smile well done staff.

First time here was for a family function few months ago & it was unforgettable! Great customer service! owner & staff made us feel welcome and checked in regularly to make sure everything was fine. Food is mouthwatering🤤hands down the best BBQ place in Auckland. We went back again a few weeks later and if we didn’t live so far we would make it a weekly ritual. Outstanding place! Far beyond any other BBQ restaurant. Best way to book a table was through the Facebook page, and they called to confirm booking on the day. As for the food, meat wasn't overpowering with smoke, and seasoning was good. Excellent service, friendly staff, great atmosphere, with talented cooks that let the meat speak for itself. If you're a fan of smoked meats, and want a true texas style experience, highly reccomend.

Another delicious meal from the team in Level 3, we really enjoyed the burgers, ribs, burnt ends and curly fries. Very easy to order our takeaways, and their contact-less pick up system is very well run and organised. Keep up the hard mahi 🙂

Book before you come here otherwise you will be disappointed to not get a table. The food is delicious and it's a well run establishment. The brisket just melted in the mouth and they have great frozen cocktails on offer. Bring a group if you can so you can try the whole menu! I will be back for sure.

Best feed I have had in New Zealand. Bookings are essential. Loaded fries are awesome! Brisket the best meat dish. Booking essential. Don't arrive early or you will have to wait outside. $50-$60 per person. Low and slow done like it should be.

Oh man, there's BBQ and there's Blue Ox Babe BBQ! What an absolute delight dining there. Drive up from Tauranga, totally worth it! We've been BBQ chefs and have eaten at some really good BBQ places, all of which we would generally rave about and given an easy 4/4.5 stars, but this food was simply nek-level! Large, spacious, well heated sit out and a cozy indoor dining area. A bar thats absolutely packed with delicious beverages and a kitchen with a smoker that WILL blow you away. The decor is calming and the music is in tune with the vibe of the place. The facilities were clean and well maintained. Ample seating and waitstaff, who were ever so friendly and helpful. Right from the door, we were greeted with smiles and a positive attitude. The modus operandi of the restaurant was explained politely as we were seated and given our menus & silverware. We decided to sample a little of everything but decided against the large platter and went for 1 main and 1 side dish each over 3 rounds. Not only were we surprised at the quality of smoke in the meats and the degree of cooking, but we were swept away with the portion size as well. Definitely NOT stingy with the love! We went there for a feast, and let me tell you, we were far from disappointed! The chicken was juicy, well smoked and not chewy. The brisket had an amazing smoke ring and didn't even need a knife to cut. The pork belly was juicy and tender and packed with flavor. The sweetness of the sausage complimented the smoke in a very unique way. The sides we ordered only enhanced the experience as they were little explosions of awesomeness in our already stuffed mouths. We REALLY wanted to go for the smoked corn and pork ribs, but the meat sweats had us defeated after those rounds! 100% will be coming back. Highly recommend from us meat lovers. The meat is soft and tasty , good quality control . Curly fries is crispy. The sauces are surprisingly good; hot sauce is tomatoes base with heat , BBQ is good.

Meat was good but cold so not that enjoyable. Chips were soggy. Not convinced id bother going back.

The smokey taste definalty lived up to the hype. The chicken and pork ribs my top favs, brisket was a little dry but found out later that that tends to happen if not eaten first. the owner was very polite when Informing us about that but over all the pleasant experience.

We came here in july after hearing about it from family. The service was good the staff were all happy and welcoming. We had prebooked and were seated straight away. Luckily i had read reviews before hand which said you need to order your food at the counter so i asked as we were being seated about the process of ordering to be certain. So you go up to the counter and order your food inside and if you would like drinks its at the bar near the front door where you walk in. We spent approx $220 between 5 adults and 3 children. All the food was brought out on a share platter. When i ordered the cashier helped me to decide on some which was very helpful as i wasnt too sure what we should order. We got Brisket x 2. Pork belly x 2 and pork ribs. Slaw x 2. curly fries x 2. Mac n cheese x 2. And loaded curlys x 2. And Warm cinnamon doughnuts. All the food was beautifully cooked except i thought the ribz were abit tough (i thought theyd be abit more falling off the bone?) Loaded curlys are very yumm. 200g for each meat is not allot for $19 ech. So if your looking for quantity then this isnt the place for you. We could have had allot more to eat as we are big eaters and we were still hungry for more. But it was good for a change of venue to eat out at. Overall quality over quantity.

You have to be early to get what you want. It certainly is a different experience. It is very American. If you like very rustic, carb and meat heavy meals this is perfect for you. Price for food is excellent. If you don't eat pork you need to be super early to make sure you get the beef dish as that sells out 1st

Love this place no waiting a dream for people with kids, go in order and get the food right away and out again, no waiting around no drags on service etc. Not sure why the one stars are saying bad service service was great, sure you have to go up and order your own food and then order your own drinks but that’s told as soon as you sit down. The brisket is amazing was my favourite out of the lot will definitely be back to try the chicken and sausages. All their sides were great as well!

Exceptional service! Spontaneous family Friday night dinner out, first timers the waiter was so welcoming and explained the otdering process and offered a few suggestions which was really helpful. We opted for the brisket, ribs,pork, loaded fries beef and pork, then finished off with donuts. 2 adults, 3 hungry teenagers and child it was plenty and leftovers, absolutely rich and flavourful, umm we ended up ordering more brisket to takeaway. But their service, their people were so genuine and friendly, so welcoming. You can instantly tell they love what they do and they go out of their way to give us a wonderful night, which they did. Thank you, my family had an awesome night we will see you again. : )

It was incredible! The restaurant style and vibe is not too far from a real Texas barbecue in Texas. The restaurant doesn’t promote tables or reservations if you group is less than 6 people... so you will have a late lunch or a early dinner (4 pm to 5 pm) - Food was good and the prices reflect the quality....

As a Texan who grew up eating BBQ, I can say this place serves delicious, mouth-watering BBQ. We drove out from Auckland and were really lucky to get there just as they were about to run out of brisket and sausage. We had a couple of beers, mac n cheese, and fries as well. It was a nice, relaxed atmosphere, and we were glad we made the long drive out here to have a great meal.

Hands down fulfilling tasty BBQ I've had, big portions and we'll worth the price and service is really fast. Staff are amazing and friendly as well. Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for something amazing and make you feeling full and happy. Will definitely return👌.

WOW, what a feed. I'm a Yank and I would happily attest that this was the best smoked meat I have ever had. Mark and his amazing team have got this system dialed in. Travelled from deepest West Auckland for this, and it did not disappoint! IMO the best Texas style BBQ I’ve had in Auckland and maybe NZ! Accompanied by excellent, friendly staff and a really high quality fit out. Will be back!

Simply amazing. We got a few different things, including the famous brisket and jalapeño and cheese sausage....SO good. I need to get some of that sausage for my kettle this summer...it's literally the best sausage I've ever had. Mark and the team are great hosts, masterclass of great cooking. Service was 10/10 too: Caitlin and the waitstaff are super nice and attentive as: the best. 10/10: will be back many times!

I went with a group of family members and I personally loved and would highly recommend the brisket and loaded bean and also the loaded curly fries with beef so yummy and delicious. FYI this is my personal opinion about what I enjoyed to eat as everyone in my family had their own opinion on other food we ate.

Deeeeelicious !!! I've been to a couple BBQ places and this is at the top by far. We tried 1 of everything except the sandwhich and burger as they weren't being served that night but hey there's always next time - and there will be a next time. The sides are delicious. The pickled cucumbers went so well with the meat. My favourite side had to be the beans they were perfect. The portion amount for meat was perfect- when I can pull the bone out of my pork rib I know I'm in for a good time. I loved the service - the lady at the counter warned us it would be too much but hey that's what doggy bags are for :) looking forward to breakfast. Had a wonderful time at Blue Ox Babe. Venue was easy to find with ample parking across the road. Service was impeccable , environment was on point and food was absolutely delicious. Price range was good for the amount of food that was served up. Beer range is very limited and there is not really a dessert menu.

This place was amazing! Loves the rustic interior. Super cozy myself and 8 of my friends went there to surprise one of our girlfriends for her birthday and we enjoyed ourselves. Food was amazing and filling we couldn't even finish it plus customer services was spot on! Definitely worth checking out. You will not be disappointed.

Travelled all the way from Whangaparoa/Manly with my partner to try Blue Ox Babe BBQ & we were not disappointed! The staff were so lovely, food/drinks came out so quick and it all tasted amazing. Will definitely be coming back with friends and family and would happily recommend to anyone looking for somewhere new to eat. So worth the hour and a half drive! Thank you 😊

I love blue ox!! Best low slow hands down but last nights experience was a bit different. I ordered up large and the teller tried to convince me that I was ordering to much stuff....ahhmmm that’s my choice. It kinda peed me off a bit I mean it’s my money my choice. Loved the triple stack, brisket, Mac n cheese and short rib was 🔥. The salad has changed?? Had to much onions in my opinion. Also for the first time the ribs were not fully cooked they did not fall off the bone that easy had to fight with a few bones. Also the pork belly was different as well. New chef? Just didn’t hit the same as the many previous times I have visited. But stil 4/5 for me blue ox forever!!

Food was beautiful and the customer service to match! The big fulla with the beard who took our food order helped us out and made it easier and explained everything to us clearly and also ALL the waitresses were very attentive without being overly pushy or all up in your space (especially the blonde girl with glasses who took care of our cake order for us sorry didn't get your name but you were awesome!) I don't know why people gave bad reviews against the staff cause we couldn't fault them at all! 🤷🏽‍♂️ thanks team.

Massive 10/10, not only is the customer service INCREDIBLE the food is even better. Brisket and pickles are a must have, suggested by one of the staff & he was spot on ! You have to be a meat lover to enjoy the food but the atmosphere was great. The sides were a bit small in portion but delicious. The high stools and leaners outside became uncomfortable after a while. The pricing was high but serving sizes were very generous so we shared plates and ended up spending $30pp amongst four. It was quite crowded but the service from the wait staff was excellent and food came out quickly. We were able to take leftovers home.

The food and atmosphere is good. But I just wish they would start answering the phone! I understand they are slicing the brisket and everything, but time and again when we call, no answer. And the calls are within within the displayed operating hours. If you have a phone line, and you’re a business wanting more business, you need to answer a phone.

Couldn't order any burgers or bread related meals. Alcohol was very pricey. The meat how ever was absolutely beautiful. Got a platter which was for 7 of us, so worked out 30 a head. Unfortunately won't be back.

Disappointed to return to BOB a year on and feel they have lost their customer centricity - I was in line while the Server had a stand up argument with a couple trying to order their dinner and the server telling them they couldn’t have it all they had to dial it back as he needed to cater for his later bookings..? There are no notices on any kinda of limits per person. Whilst I understand the business practise that is why we arrived at 5pm opening - to be first in..surely that’s the risk you run of forecasting in a restaurant and that isn’t a customers problem. I thought the server was rude and arrogant about it, when it was my turn to order I was grilled on how many people at my table and the age of the people. Weird. Furthermore my family of 6 was issued a 15min warning that it was the ‘end of our slot’ - which was news to us as we didn’t know there was slots and we had just ordered more drinks and 60% of the tables were empty on a Friday night. The ribs were good, bartender with the pink eyeshadow was really helpful with drinks, the Mac and cheese needs some work, Good pickles and beans. We won’t be back, we had gone out as a family to eat and support local business but that isn’t hospitality - no matter how good your bbq is.

Loved the place. Staff was very accommodating, one of the most amazing bbq places I have been to. The briskets and ribs were very tender. The pork belly burger was amazing as well. They also have a wide variety of beer 🍺 to choose from.

Just had this, was supposed to dine in but we ended up doing takeout.... Amazing! Pork belly, chicken and ribs. You ain't had a bbq until you had this. Staring at my 6 burner and it looks just sad. Definitely dining in next time. Staff are awesome, friendly and the environment is very welcoming. Great place for all. Would give more stars if I could.

Amazing food worth the long drive, the staff was super cool and we even got to try something new that should go on the menu for sure. Everything was spot on with flavours and spices. Will visit them again with larger group soon.

If you love meat and a warm friendly welcoming atmosphere then this is the place to go. Service was 10/10, food was 10/10 and overall experience was 10/10. The food is well priced and we even had enough leftover for lunch the next day. Highly recommended. Just make sure you book in advance.

Staff was wonderful! Food was amazing. I would just suggest one thing, if I may.... We need garlic aoli sauce, for the brisket and curly fries. You have bbq, tomato and hot sauce, but oh my goodness, aoli is a must! Thanks for a great night. My dad had a great birthday. We'll be back!

Heaven on a freaking plate!! Been into the low n slow bbq scene since the first meatstock!! 😁 Been here a few times, and will go back many more times!! Laid back, casual, awesome atmosphere! THE SUPREME BEST EXPERIENCE. Flawless and super friendly knowledgeable staff. I could really tell they cared not only about cuatomers but about the artistry of making food to keep coming back for. I have to admit I usually get disappointed going out, cos I usually get disappointed by customer service, or the overhyped food....This place restored my faith in fine dining cuisine. The owner even came to talk to us which has never happened at any other place. I suffer from anxiety and usually feel unwelcomed at restraunts but here I felt really welcomed. Highly recommend. That brisket, pork belly, and burger was great. Would definately go again.

Food was tasty but couldn't call it delicious. Brisket fell apart nicely, loaded fries came with pulled pork which was a nice combo, slaw looked and tasted like it came from the supermarket (and $8 for a small bowl??). Thought it was overpriced for what it was. Drinks felt a bit overpriced too, $27 for two beers and a lemonade (maybe that's just my thinking?). Staff were super friendly, but they only come to take away your stuff. Since you have to go and order and later collect your own food, didn't feel great value. Overall, sadly it didn't feel like a place that I would want to go back to.

Booking was very easy 😊 and from the time I had rung up to add and confirm booking I can honestly say customer service was excellent!! It was our first time and it ain't going to be the last! 😁 The atmosphere was perfect secluded from the busy road with a beautiful natural green decor, outdoor seating. Inside was so amazing I love black! 😩 , FOOD ! oh was just so yummy yummy, i didn't like the slaw only because of the celery ( its me ijust don't like celery 🤦🏽‍♀️) but man everything else was 100/100 for us all. The meat was PERFECT ! I couldn't stop talking about the mac n cheese! Im not a fan of macncheese but Blue ox babe you have made me a fan of yours ! Thank you for making my hubbys birthday such a great one with amazing food and AWESOME customer service😊 we definitely recommend and will be coming again.

Our family came for dinner here to try it out. Nice clean place, good decor and on a warm summer day, definitely enjoyable to sit outside. Ordered brisket and hot link (sausage) with a couple of sides. Brisket was tender although to be honest we couldn't taste the bbq flavour in it. The hot link, unfortunately, was bland. We assumed it was supposed to be pork and fennel sausage since there were fennel seeds in it but seemed to be missing the real pork, mainly tasted like white bread. Also, no bbq flavour in it. We hear that the ribs are yum, so next time we'll try that one instead of the sausage. Sides of Tex Mex was good and curly fries were plenty. Service was quick and staff members are all friendly. Bar serves nice cold large size beer. Price is on the higher side, but we sure wouldn't mind paying if the food was better.

This place is awesome. Food is xlnt, staff are xlnt, service is xlnt. Wait time for your order is minimal. You must book as I am not sure that they do walk in anymore and book for an early time. The later you leave your arrival time the more chance there is of missing out on the dishes that make your mouth water. Plenty of parking. Small play area for kids, but you must keep them under control. Don't leave it for staff to do. They are far too busy attending to their xlnt service. Thank you BOB.

We loved the pork ribs the best ever!

Unfortunately I was a little disappointed. My mum and I thought it looked like a good place to go so I said I'd take her there for dinner for her birthday. I wouldn't recommend it for older people e.g. 50+, unless they dont mind lots of noise and having to talk loud. Outside seating is not comfy. Unsure about inside. They do not offer menu's to look at, so I suggest getting one from them before booking to print copies for your group. Be prepared for one of your group to write down your tables order to then take to the front. I recommend only ordering one curly fries per 3 or 4 people. We had to take home a lot of left over fries. It would have been nice to have been told that the curly fries are very generous servings. Could have saved $$$. The meat was good, but my Dad was served a luke warm burger. I would go back but not with my parents, nor without enough menus for each person in my group.

As for the Frose... more than 2 would be dangerous!

The service and experience here is beyond Excellent, When we initially walking inside, we were greeted within a second and he got us seated straight away, once we was seated, he explained to us how the bbq works and where everything is located. He was amazing. The ladies who brought out food out was very nice and and always checked on us if we were ok, and if the food was good, they are very professional and to the chiefs and kitchen hands , what amazing operation you run in there , food smells beautiful and looks absolutely delicious, love how you can see everything get prepared in front of you. Our experience here was absolutely amazing and would definitely recommend coming to this place to anyone. The atmosphere was a vibe. Anyone looking Christmas function place this year please visit this place or if you want to have good food and good company, come here you won’t be disappointed.

Very funky joint and a great idea bringing Texas BBQ to NZ. Unfortunately the execution is lacking somewhat. They were busy that evening, so no table service for us, drinks and food were ordered seperately and we had to wait inside to recieved our food. Prices are getting up there for the portions, also no mixed platters, which makes it expensive if you are having to buy min 200g of each item to try. Food was... ok. It was well cooked, tender and the rub on the ribs was good. However, the flavour was not BBQ, frankly it could have come out of an electric oven. This is quite different to the BBQ we have experienced in the southern states of USA. However, we will return in a couple of months, hopefully they hit their stride, eager for this to succeed.

Good, tasty meal but let down by a couple of things: like they forgot our takeout order and also said a waitress would come and explain how to order, no waitress came. Could probably just avoid people who are visiting for the first time sitting around waiting for table service with a sign or infographic poster explaining you get your table then go up and order your food / drinks.

After taking my seat with my beautiful wife facing me for a belated Valentine's day date, pleased to be without our children for one night of freedom I was relaxed and composed but did not anticipate how great this evening would become. I ventured inside to make my order. My senses tingled as they were greeted by the thick aroma of meat being cooked with such great care. My senses started leaping for joy at the mouthwatering goodness it had started to anticipate. After some careful consideration I selected my meal and waited for it to be served. After watching a pitmaster caring for the needs of an ambitiously large BBQ and the by products of animals reared for consumption, I was served with a platter truly fit for kings. My eyes gazed over a sight that matched the aroma and I eagerly took my place back at my table to share in this feast briefly remembering my wife was also with me to share in this experience too. The hardest decision now came which was "What meat to begin with?" After confirming brisket would be the first meat to be consumed I was overwhelmed with emotion as the cooked flesh of a well raised bovine creature simply melted away in my mouth. My palette was tingling and my brain was processing just how great this first taste of this morsel truly was. As I gazed in to the sparkling blue eyes of my dear wife, all I could muster was a stunned and grateful "yes" as I nodded to confirm this meal was as good as I has anticipated and continued to devour the remainder of my Kings share. If you partake of the meat from this truly impressive establishment and believe it to be not of your liking I would suggest you may need to reevaluate your decisions in life and consider some form of vegetarianism or veganism as one can simply not be that foolish.

We visited as a family group, there was a slight mix up over our table booking upon arrival. Fortunately, we did not have to wait that long before a table became available. It was a warm Summer’s evening, so the place was very busy. We were told how the restaurant operates, as in there is no waitress service, you go up order your meat, and drinks and collect after a few minutes. Previous diners had advised how big the portions are, and to think about what we ordered. Needless to say we spotted several people leaving with large doggie boxes, including one of our group. I think between most of us in our group we had ordered most of the different meat options on the menu. Everybody was suitable full afterwards, the meats were cooked just right, and the Sides were a little different to the norm, but suited perfectly. We were impressed when the owner Mark came round and explained the process of how the meats are processed and cooked. If you enjoy your BBQ meat, this is the place to come.

The fab smells don't lie. So worth queuing for Brisket is so succulent and delicious. And the brisket beans, my favourite. Great bang for your buck and a great atmosphere. The "outside" bar is cool and shady but will be cosy in the winter. And fab service.

Got there about 16:45 on a Friday. No queue and very few customers. Ordering easy plus quick and friendly service. Got take-aways: ribs, belly and brisket plus sides. All nicely smoked. Meat was tender but not falling off the bone (as depicted in videos) and a bit dry for our liking. We could taste the effects of the smoking, but otherwise meat flavour was so-so. Given all the hype and their prices which increased in Nov 2019, we expected something over the top. This sadly wasn't OTT. I'm from Chicago and restaurants and the summer rib festival there offer OTT meats. No disrespect meant to Blue Ox Babe, and hope they work on raising the bar. It looks like a great set-up. We'll think carefully about any next visit.

That brisket 😋 Set times (we went at 5pm and they had to get the table ready for 6.30pm bookings) which is good, and the food came to the table pretty fast.

It felt a bit like medieval feast as we went with a group of 15 people and we had our own table and shared platters. The meat was beautiful and there was a great selection of tasty sides. Fun atmosphere.

If you want real genuine bbq, this is where you wanna go. The owner is real cool and very friendly. The staff are good too. I've been to the states and can say this is arguably mirror what they serve there too. I too dabble in bbq and smoking my food and it was good. My reasons for 3 stars. First is price vs quantity doesn't match. Too pricey if you ask me. We bought the $51 platter but wanted to make some changes and was told strictly no. Some flexibility around pricing would be nice. We also ordered half a rack of ribs and I asked if this was fall of the bone and the lady said yes. But when we got our order it was far from it. Good flavours but definitely not fall of the bone. I know this because I make ribs too and I can confidently say mine are better. I didn't query because it was our first time. Not sure if we will visit again but I would recommend for first time goers. Again these are my reasons. Thanks to the owner and the team. We enjoyed it.

Ah-ef'n-mazing!!!! Managed to accomodate our family of 5 without a reservation. It was fully booked and we wouldve understood being turned away but no fuss and some quick thinking by staff got us seated. The brisket and pork belly was beautiful alongside the slaw and potato salad. The service was excellent. The bathrooms were spotless. If youre thinking of coming here to eat and making a drive out to puke if youre not a local - book a table so you dont miss out. We were lucky today. I would sell my middle child (love my middle child) just to eat here every day. Thank you😎

Extremely busy place, very SLOW service.... after you place an order, servers have no idea how to deliver that order to the table, you will have to keep checking instead of relaxing...food was good, tried brisket which was juicy, curly fries and coleslaw was decent . However super overpriced sides and the daily special... daily special of one piece of beef rib with no sides $35!

The beef brisket was perfect, potato salad is perfect. We had the 4 meats tray, pork belly was good, sausage had a overwhelming paprika flavour, but the brisket was the real king. Worth the trip from the north shore.

We tried this place after seeing it online. Been to a few bbq joints already with the mrs. There was only two of us so we decided to get there early around 415pm, there's not any specific parking so we had to park across where all the shops are. Glad its not strict as we didn't come back to any tickets or clamps. When we first arrived, visually the place looked awesome, neat establishment alright. We were welcomed by one of the waitresses and she gave us a quick tour guide into where we can get our drinks and how we can order. We didn't wait long but it was already starting to get packed. We ordered our food and watched it being made which was cool and the smoker was probably the highlight, definitely a beast. One of a kind. We ordered the $51 platter and a rack of ribs, a bit too tough for our liking in the end but the flavours were there. I'd smoke it for another hour though. But the brisket was amazing, just like they make in the states. We also got the pork belly which had good flavours. We ordered a side of fries with mac and cheese and a coleslaw. I think when it comes to bbq, its all about portion size and this would get my 5 stars if the bbq/sides and condiments were bigger. For $8 for a small tub of mac and cheese and slaw, I'd say this could be improved for sure. The owner was awesome though, very hospitable as are the rest of the staff. Would've liked to see bbq sauces as well on our tables. However, would come here again just for the brisket. Great atmosphere, great food and people.

Very very busy. A nice meal. Having to order drinks in a different place from food and having to hang about waiting for meals not ideal, especially when in a big group. Older people we were with and small children with found the pace overwhelming. Was better once the rush settled.

I did not especially enjoy the meat (apart from the sausage) which was meant to be the main attraction. Dessert was highly underwhelming and options very limited. The pork bits (side dish) was out of this world!

Oh my goodness, finally a Proper BBQ restaurant In the Southern Hemisphere! Judging by some of the reviews on here us Kiwis don’t even know what realBBQ is. Sorry it’s not the little gas burner you have at home. That’s a grill. I just read someone complaining about not having a menu!!! The menu is right in front of you it’s the food they are carving up before your eyes, order some and dig in it’s fantastic. This is real barbecue Kiwis, it comes from the Spanish word Barbacoa straight out of the Caribbean. Discover it! because once you do you’ll never go back.

Came here for a birthday not knowing alot. Anyways... What an experience. Very pleasant staff tending to our needs with smiles. And the food... Meat-tacular is a word that comes to mind. Super tender cuts of meat and delicious sides. Already planning my next visit...lol... 😆

Hands down best bbq place in Auckland if not in all of NZ!! And to top it of, the staff are absolutely amazing, very friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend.

Great new Texas style, low and slow BBQ joint. The beef brisket reminded of my trip to Lone Star state, smoked over oak, served hot, juicy and tender. Awesome pork ribs and the brisket beans topped it off nicely.

Very friendly service. Funky cool decor and background music. Red car was great for kids to play in. Nice as beers selection. Then there was the food. Meat is to die for. Tender moist and succulent. My son doesn't have much variation in his food liking but he tucked into that Brisket Burger like there was no tomorrow lol. Afterwards he said Dad can you make me a Beef Brisket Burger sometime? I honestly never have had him liking briskety type meat before. So cool. The owner Mark was so friendly and gave us recommendations as he served on the til which I thought was really neat. Service was swift. All round just bloody awesome! Definitely going back sometime soon.

This is not Texan Bbq! Having spent a sizeable chunk of my life in Austin and San Antonio I have eaten my fair share of proper bbq. We got the platter that came with the pork belly, chicken, sausage and brisket. You can’t get the ribs with the platter so no real choice huh. You also get three sides we chose the slaw, potato salad and mac and cheese. We also got the curly fries. The best was the brisket and potato salad, but the sausage is just a basic cheese kransky. Something unheard of in Texas bbq. It wasn’t very good either. The chicken and pork belly were nice, but given there is no sauce it left a lot to be desired. Disappointingly the Mac and cheese was bland and they use tomato sauce instead of ketchup, that’ll get you tarred and feathered back home! No bread, no rolls, no cornbread and no desserts. Bbq just ain’t bbq without a peach cobbler! Service was good and we got our food quickly. Unfortunately you have to book as walkins after 530 aren’t welcome. You also can only book via email and just for parties of 6 or more. The Blue Ox Babe is an ok bbq place but it just isn’t all that good. There are other bbq places that do it better ... such as Dixie Bbq and Juke Joint.

A great new type of barbecue bar where the wide range of ribs beef chicken, is cooked in a authentic barrel style barbecue. You have to go there. Drinks a bit pricey tho. The best ribs i have ever tasted.

Awesome food, awesome staff, food prices are definitely lot cheaper than the ones in Auckland, definitely worth the drive. Only small complaint is the beverage pricing is bit high. I will be back for the BBQ tho

This place is amazing, 6 of us went for $224= $37 per head and we still had a rack of ribs left to take home. This is top quality bbqing, loved it and I'll be back.

Nothing to complain about, food was good. I like a little more sauce with my meat but regardless well worth it. The car for the kids a nice touch too

Have been here at least 10 times now, often get takeaways as we have 4 little ones. Would be great if I could phone through and order, had to wait 25 mins last week. Was worth it but would be a lot easier :)

BBQ is on point, get there early to avoid Missing out on anything, they start to run out from about 6-630. Bookings essential and we'll worth the trip out.

Top notch bbq served the way they do it in Texas. The brisket is off the chain, ribs are on point and brisket beans are sweet, tangy deliciousness. Worth it to get out to see the giant Moberg smoker, custom built and imported from the USA for Blue Ox Babe and enjoy a cold one.

Best Texas style Barbcue I have had in New Zealand, everything was amazing but I particularly enjoyed the Chicken... not the least expensive choice for dinner but WELL worth it.
