Very good quality of food... good selection of dishes, plus the stuff very friendly. .. also they have a good variety and yummy cocktails... Just the waiting time for the meal is a bit longer than other restaurants... the atmosphere is pleasant, and the architecture of the building is comfortable... they have a nice bar on the top floor with a beautiful fire and comfortable couches... very nice... everything is clean and pleasant... happy to come again...😉

We ordered Angus Eye fillets with seasonal vegetables and both dishes were amazing. It was one of the best steaks I have ever tried. And customer service was excellent. I think this experience was worth the high price. It was a lovely evening

Botswana Butchery in Queenstown is undoubtedly one of New Zealand's premier restaurants. The quality and presentation of the food was of the highest class. The meals were enjoyed by all of our large party. Of course the prices are high, but that's what you get if you want to experience such fine dining. Highly recommend, but maybe as a treat.

With simply superb service and awesome food to match what is not to love about this place. We had just an awesome night with good company and fantastic food. I can thoroughly recommend the 350g grain few Wagu scotch fillet with truffle butter, cooked rare/medium rare it was just divine!!

We always love our dining experience at Botswana and this time was no exception!! Fabulous food, wine and experience. We always include a stop off at Botswana when we are in gorgeous Queenstown 🙌🙌🙏🙏 Thank you so so much!!

Beautiful restaurant with equally beautiful dishes. Had the biltong steak with green peppercorn sauce and the cos lettuce salad. The medium-rare steak had a deep, peppery rich flavour augmented by the sauce and yet it wasn't sickenly rich - very well executed. Being an Asian Kiwi, salads aren't really part of my palate as I enjoy vegetables cooked in other styles. However this salad hit all the right notes of fresh, sweet, tangy, with bacon bits to add some savoury crunch - good stuff! Hats off to the chef and knowledgeable waitress for an exemplary and memorable meal.

Came for NYE dinner. The 3-course set menu looked appealing so we booked a week before. Slow start though, had to wait for some time at the lounge. Glad that the set menu had bubbles to start with, coz we weren’t given the drinks menu until 30 mins later. 😅 The restaurant was packed for NYE and we can see that the staff are trying their best. Food was delicious, the meat was cooked to perfection. I’ll eat here again, when it’s not too busy and will order food from their regular menu. They have a wide selection of drinks to choose from- cocktails, wine, beer (bottles only) etc. name it. If you have questions which wine is best paired with your food, they have a sommelier too. Overall, a great dining experience.

Exceptional private dining experience. The food was absolutely divine from entree to desert. The staff incredibly welcoming and attentive. You really couldn't ask for a better dining experience!

I'd suggest skipping the starters (which were pretty average) and to go straight to the meat from the butcher's block. Probably one of the best meats I've ever had in NZ and well worth the price.

Most amazing food and wine! The leg of lamb just wow so delicious! along with the mac and cheese, duckfat potatoes, seasonal veges, oysters. Staff also very nice and friendly. Bring your wallet plus some - you won't regret it

A really nice setting, and we had fantastic entrees and the best cheese platter. Only let down was the steak was just OK, and definitely slightly undercooked (the table next to us said the same about their steak) we were seated by the door so it was a bit cold for me, but other parts of the restaurant were very cosy. Nice waitstaff too.

A lovely night out spoiling ourselves. Wonderful table service full of menu knowledge, choice advice. Stunning food - beautiful fillet, duck fat potatoes, salads - perfect for sharing. Extensive wine list with thoughtful advice for matching to food. We just settled in and enjoyed immensely.

I am almost at a loss to describe the experience that we had tonight, it was for me without a doubt the most incredible meal of my life. We both had the little black book specials and both spent a good amount of time just looking at each other shaking our heads trying to put it into words. The chefs here must be world renowned as they are certainly world class. Tori our waitress made an incredible evening something that was almost a day once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thank you for making this the most spectacular meal of our honeymoon. Also as a recommendation have a moneyshot, believe me you will not be disappointed.

We had heard good things about this place, we had great service, great food and they surprised us at the end of our dinner with a special anniversary dessert. Thank you, it's the little things.

Had the most superb meal here for our elopement. Staff were well briefed and made our night so extra special with treats and touches. We had the Chateaubriand from the Little Black Book and it was by far the best beef we've ever had (and that's saying a lot given we breed beef!) Wine list was superb. We knew this place would be good, but this was everything you could expect from a beautiful restaurant for a special occasion. Thank you to the whole team xxxx

I had to pause before writing this, a moment to smile and remember. I made a phone booking, on a busy Friday night, not fancying my chances given the time frame, but was delighted to be offered the chefs table, much like looking into the heart of a well oiled engine. It was busy, but not for those seated, staff where attentive, right from the moment we opened the door to the restaurant, no waiting for us to walk to the counter, they came to us, and with just our name, they new of our booking, weaving past other dinners we arrived at our table, with just a brief pause a waiter appeared and our journey began, sparking water, followed by my choice of wine, now relaxed drink in hand the menue became our focus, interrupted only by the distraction of wonderful cooking smells, and dishes passing by. Just when we thought we had chosen our meal, we were yet again enticed by the waiter telling us of their specials, but we did not sway....untill another small menue was on offer, changing my mind was a given, when offered a 500 gram aged T bone. Out entrees where half a dozen oysters and for myself duck livers, then came a line of waiters each holding a dish to complement our mains, duck fat potatoes honey coated Brussel sprouts and a creamy potato, with a chicken gravy. Sitting back and pushing the last plate away, I knew desert was a bridge too far, so we sat back and enjoyed the last glass of wine, as staff had the taxi give us a moment or two to finish up. I have but one regret, and that is I did not have the time to return for a lunch, so one could enjoy the stunning lake views, and contemplate buying a bigger belt to compensate for my over indulges.

I just love going to a restaurant and have a wow experience. Yes its a little pricey but bang for buck Botswana is up there. Had the High Country Lamb and Fried Chicken. The day KFC tried that chicken they'd start a new business model. Front of house staff are warm. Informed and just attentive enough. Ambience 10/10. Food 11/10. In my opinion In Queenstown this is the epitome

Booked a table on a rainy evening to sit in the front porch as our dog was with us. We were greeted warmly on arrival. The server was excellent and helped us choose the mains and accompanied sauces, steak as well as lamb was perfectly cooked and of great quality. We ordered Apple Crumble, wanted to share, but it was so good that we ended up ordering another one. The manager and the server checked on us regularly, it was a great dining experience.

Good quality food. The best lamb I ever had. Really great vibe. People were not shouting to each other. Minus 1 point out because the black sofa I sat on was dirty.

Really nice, elegant vibe at Botswana Butchery. My ahi tuna salad was really fresh and flavourful and my partners steak with peppercorn sauce was great, however not his favourite in QT. Really tricky to get a booking here unless you book well in advance. Worth while checking it out however.

Beautiful meal, great service and awesome atmosphere. Would say much better than the Auckland branch. Extensive wine and alcohol list. We shared a few dishes and were impressed with all. Chefs really care about the food they serve. A true fine dining experience over the lake. Go early or later as it gets very busy.

Outstanding service, perfect ambiance and the best steak I have ever had. High praise indeed but we'll definitely be back. I would recommend this place to anyone that just wants the best.

Service amazing, food excellent my wife's meal was perfect as was mine other than my steak which was out of place among everything else only being average as was cold in the middle when ordered medium rare. Very nice touch personalised deserts to mark our special occasion

Booked this restaurant during the week for my parents 50th anniversary. Received a call on the day from them confirming the booking and that they knew it was my parents anniversary. Service and food all amazing, and a special dessert acknowledging my parents wedding anniversary which blew my parents away. Can’t speak highly enough of the staff member I spoke to during the booking and my parents are still raving about how good the staff/service/ meal was! Thanks very much for making their day memorable for all the right reasons.

Amazing experience on Sunday night. Our waiter was so accommodating and had a great understanding of coeliac safe food. We had a private room which was a special experience and the food was worth it!

A-maze-ing! From the moment you walk in until the moment you leave, the experience is fantastic! Staff go above and beyond to make your dining experience special! The food itself is so delicious and plated so nicely ....bar staff even involve us in their cocktail making.. Our special occasion (wedding) dinner was celebrated here and the experience will be forever etched into our memories..🥰🥰

Exceptionally good, and very recommendable! Everything met - if not exceeded - our expectations. The food was presented beautifully and tasted absolutely delicious, and the ambience was pleasantly calm and relaxing - resulting in a nice quite lunch and peaceful afternoon by the fire. The menu is quiet pricy, but its definitely worth it if you're looking for a nice place to celebrate something special - although portion sizes were fairly good / generous, so the costs are probably very justifiable. The service was really good and everyone was very welcoming, friendly and accommodating. I would say booking is essential especially later in the day i.e. evenings and over weekends - but it wasn't overly busy during our visit which was at 1 pm in the middle of the week. The premises was also very nice and tidy and clean, including the restrooms - which says a lot about a place and probably also the state of its kitchen. Overall it was probably one of the best places I've ever dined in at, and probably one of the best meals I've had during my time in New Zealand. If you're in the vicinity, I would definitely suggest calling for a visit.

My partner and I decided to have our wedding reception here after googling for private rooms. We found Botswana and feel in love with the Garden room. After emailing a few different places, Cassandra (the event organizer), made our decision very easy. She was so helpful, friendly, and easy to work with. Nothing was ever too much to ask for and honestly the communication was excellent. She would answer or email me back anytime! As a bride and an organizer this set me at ease. The day of the wedding went so smooth because of her and her staff eye for detail. I can not thank them enough as the guests talked about the food and the room for weeks after the wedding! Now for the food, the food is absolutely amazing!!!! It came out perfectly presented and tasted amazing!!!! The attention to detail in the kitchen was impeccable! We had a few guests who had dietary restrictions and this was also NO problem. It also made them feel good knowing they had so many options. All I can say is, thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You all did and do an amazing job!!!!!

Beautiful food, wine and staff. This would be our favorite dining place in all New Zealand. Not sure why they aren't 3 star Michelin?

If the Michelin Guide covered NZ, Botswana Butchery would get a star. Maybe two. You can't go wrong eating here if you're in QT. Fast, professional service, top notch ingredients, complex grown-up flavors, no mistakes in execution. Everyone here clearly cares about their work and knows what they're doing.

Loved our lunch here the oysters were fantastic and the slaw a highlight!!! A+++

We came here for dinner as a table of nine for a birthday. This place was incredible. The array of food on the menu is remarkable, as was their drinks menu. And the service was flawless. Except one slight mishap. I ordered the Scotch Fillet steak (which was a little fattier than a Scotch fillet should be, although still cooked to perfection with 110% flavour) with the creamy mushroom sauce. The sauce though, imo, was more gravy than sauce. I'm not sure there was any cream in it? Perhaps the menu meant cream of mushroom instead of creamy mushroom? That's a glaring oversight if so and one that should be corrected. I asked the wait person and they insisted it was a creamy mushroom sauce. Check out the picture, you can be the judge :-P Having said that, it was an incredibly flavoursome mushroom sauce. Just not what I was expecting, and being dismissed by the wait person (who wasn't our waiter, they were just doing a food drop) was rather confronting considering the level of service by our actual waiter. In hindsight I should asked our main waiter for clarification. Despite this, I would come back here in a heartbeat, every mouthful was divine, decor was stunning, and with such an impressive wine and cocktail list it's a win win. Definitely add this to your Queenstown visit.

Arrived for a late lunch at 4pm, plenty of vacant spots available without a booking. We were seated next to a wood fireplace which was wonderful and cosy, the decor and ambience is spectacular! The service was extremely attentive and friendly. We ordered the fish tacos, fried chicken, chips and green leaf salad. The food was amazing, especially the fish tacos - highly recommend! We loved this restaurant and would return to try the extensive steak menu for dinner, looked great!

Epic menu - everything we ate and saw was amazing. Highlight was the red deer tartare. Excellent wine list, perfect service 10/10 couldn't recommend higher. We will be back for sure

The location is quite good, just at the lakefront of Lake Wakatipu, and since it's quite easily crowded with customers, be sure to make reservation in advance. The atmosphere in the restaurant is good but service is just ok, not quite meet the standard of dining place of this level. The food is good and tasty, but the price is little bit high. With food quality and service like this, there are still many dining options available with lower price. In short, Botswana do have its quality on food and environment, and there are no obvious disadvantages, but I do believe that you can have much economical choices around Queenstown with similar dining standard.

Honestly the best steak I’ve had, I ordered the wagyu steak it was quite pricey with a cost of $100nz dollars but a hundred percent worth it. Was cooked to perfection and melted on my tongue The stuff are so lovely and and even made me a custom mocktail %100 recommend

Service was impeccable and food was delicious. We had the sirloin and slow cooked beef ribs. Perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The wine menu is extensive. On top of that if you book at the right time and are seated near the window there's an amazing sunset to be seen during your meal!

Good food, great location and excellent service. However, waiting staff were unsure about the portion size we ended uo ordering more than what we could finish. Overall a good experience and nice food.

We had dinner on Tuesday 8th September at an early sitting of 5:45 as it was busy that night. Didn’t love the table situation as they were very close together so hard to have your own conversations but we met nice people near us. Wine was delicious, especially the specials available. Food wise- oysters were fresh, we were recommended the pork cheek starter which did not disappoint (probably the best thing we ate there). Venison tartare was nothing spectacular, but the Wagyu for the main was delicious (albeit small for its price). We shared it with duck potatoes and a rocket/pear salad. A little overpriced but expected for location/ reviews. Would definitely come again but perhaps request a table near the front window (a bit more private) or upstairs.

My wife and I had dinner at Botswana Butchery. A delayed celebration of my 60th Birthday due to lockdowns. Without a doubt .... one of the best dining experiences we have had. I have been fortunate to dine in Michelin star restaurants in Europe and Botswana is right up there ( on a par ) and the food was exceptional. My wife had the red deer .... which melted in the mouth. We both had the crispy squid .... the best ever .... and being a Seafood Exporter, i have tasted a lot of squid in my time .... they did an exceptional job. The Duck was again, the best I have tasted. We will be back and with a bigger group to share the experience. For a fine dining experience. Value for money .... Yes ( 10/10 ) Quality of Food .... Yes ( 11/10 ) Quality of service ... Yes ( 11/10 ) on this note, staff were attentive and excellent, I enjoyed giving a nice tip when you are treated so well. The culture at Botswana shines and you can feel it. Well done !

My favorite restaurant in Queenstown - Dishes are served beautifully but also taste amazing. - The highlight is the lamb chop – perfectly seared, one of the best lamb chops I have ever had. - For sides, would recommend the duck fat potato – crispy on the outside the right texture on the inside. Asparagus / black pepper sauce were standard, but this is expected since the highlight should be the meat - We also ordered the salmon which was good though not amazing. - For starters, we had fried oysters which were good though the oysters were a bit small in size. - For dessert, we had a chocolate parfait which was ok. - Excellent wine selection and very knowledgeable sommelier.

We had fried squid, Mussels, Duck and Rack of lamb. We love every dishes especially Rack of lamb. It perfectly cooked with medium well. The meat is soft and had no smell. Another favorite dish is Newzealand Mussels. It fresh and soft especially the orange color Mussels. It’s nice place to visit and worth every single dollar you pay.

After an exhausting drive, we finally reached Queenstown in the evening. The scenery was so beautiful even from the hotel room that we stayed in. Surely everyone was famished after the long day, and for dinner we decided to splurge a little. Among the places in my itinerary, one particular restaurant came highly recommended for churning out good food but that came at a premium price. We decided to walk-in despite knowing that chances were quite slim and sure enough, they were packed to the brim but the manager was kind enough to say "let me see what I can do". Luck has it that they managed to squeeze a table for our family of five - a first positive review. The restaurant was dimly lit to create that romantic atmosphere and was supposed to have that lake view but the sky was already dark outside. We were made to feel at home almost immediately by the friendly team. ◾grilled halloumi and watermelon salad, rocket, baby cos, pine nuts, chilly, lime coriander, Vincotto.. something to whet the appetite before the main meal. ◾macaroni cheese & bacon - never fail to impress the hungry kids. ◾Flash fried NZ Paua - basically whole abalone sliced into tiny pieces and fried with lemon, garlic & spring onion; served with sourdough bread, petite salad and seaweed butter. ◾Cardrona Merino High Country Lamb comprises of lamb loin, slow cooked rib, potato boulangere, caramelised onion, baby beets, black olive crumbs, and herb yoghurt - highlight of the dinner. Our meat was beautifully done and presented equally beautiful. To serve a family with 3 active kids wasn't easy but the team did a marvellous job to attend to our needs - just like what NZ hospitality is famous for. The foods were great with good wines to complement - our first night in Queenstown and we were already left with a good impression.

Enjoyed my time here, service was amazing. Ordered the oyster and they were exceptionally fresh, also had venison that was perfectly prepared.

This was the second time we had dinner here. Again, it’s five a stars restaurant in term of service, food quality, drinks, ambiance and bar while you waiting for a table. Booking is recommended since Botswana is very popular. Oh duck liver is a must try, it’s so different compared to french foie gras which’s very rich and creamy. Highly recommended.

We went to this restaurant for lunch on a Monday, and loved it so much that we immediately made a reservation for dinner on the same day. Their Wild Fiordland Red Deer Tartare is ridiculously good. We had it for both lunch and dinner (they don't usually serve it at lunch, but because we were recommended this restaurant for the tartare, we specifically asked for it) and even though the composition of the dish was different between lunch and dinner (there were pickles in the dinner version) it was still amazing! The service at this restaurant was extraordinary, even for Queenstown standards. I really recommend you pay a visit if you get the chance - I know that we will definitely come back again next time we are in Queenstown :)

You need to book well in advance. Great service and as what you would expect from a venue like this. Steak was a little under cooked which was a little disappointing but it was the only thing our group could fault. Thank you having us guys it was a delight!! Well worth money and a must do for at least one night in Queenstown!

Botswana butchery if one of the best places i have ever eaten at. The South African aged and spiced steak was perfectly cooked, beautifully marbled, spiced perfectly and paired with a delightful cognac and mushroom sauce on the side. The red deer is wild and helicopter shot, so the animal tastes right, and lived a free and happy life right to the end. For people like me who grew up on wild meats of all kinds, this dish was a nostalgic joy. The side-dishes of duck fat roasted potato and seasonal vegetables were a perfect compliment to the South-african style beef sourced here in NZ. We washed it all down with a carafe of a lovely Pimm's and mixed fruit drink whose fresh flavour reminded me of my late-teen visits to Connecticut. The waitress who served us helped guide us through the many choices, and helped us focus on pairing that the chef would recommend. I cannot praise this place enough!

Such great food and an amazing location. We had a lovely lake view. The deer was so good and the raviloi followed it really well. The creme brule for dessert was such a great way to finish. The staff were lovely too

This is our restaurant of choice when visiting Queenstown. We have been three times now and love the private dining rooms upstairs. The food is incredible, the cocktails are lovely and the service is always excellent. Will be back, of course!

Marvellous food and service. We didn't book but got a seated but advise booking as we were lucky. Great wine list and help with matching to meals. Seated downstairs and upstairs more formal rooms for bigger parties.

I had visited both the Botswana and I would say the both have the same standards in terms of quality of food and service. Many thanks to the chef.

The deer tartar was very tasty, but the potato chips that came with it didn’t really match. They could substitute them with croutons. And we recommend taking some sauce with the rib eye on the bone, because it tasted too much like the gas stove that it is cooked on. The Cadrona merino high country lamb was super delicious though!!! And the tuna steak was amazing too, and so big! The mussles for starters are recommended. They’re really tasty and huge in size. The service is lovely, but the waiters didn’t pay so much attention to what were said. Two different waiters came to ask us what we’re drinking within one minute, although we said it already.

Expensive and you need to book, but worth making the effort on both counts. We dined here for NYE, and the meal and drinks we had were one of the best we've ever had. Each dish was cooked perfectly and was innovative and delicious. Coeliacs can be catered for but the restaurant need a heads up when booking. Special mention to Aimee our friendly, attentive and down to earth waitress for the night.

Amazing rib eye steak! We also had the cauliflower and the potato mash as sides and found we couldn’t fit in desert. Unfortunately we had to wait 45 mins for our food to come out which I found surprising at 9pm at night. The wine was also quite pricey for just a glass. Great experience overall!

A superb meal. Waitress (American girl) was so friendly and attentive. Really went out her way to recommend some tasty mocktails to accompany my dinner. Meal was cooked to perfection and tasty. Dessert was well presented.

The service and ambience were excellent. However, the meat was overcooked, the marbling in the sirloin was overpromised and the texture of the duck fat potatoes was not quite right. Unfortunately, I left vaguely disappointed.

Botswana Butchery is fine dining at its pinnacle. When you enter the venue the door handle is a meat cleaver which bode well for what is to come - some of the best cuts of meat in the country. We walked in off the street and had one of the best dining experience's of our time in Queenstown. The only table was the Chefs table which the staff apologised for as it would be noisy and full of chaos. However if you get the chance to see the hospitality professionals at work, its truely inspiring and only added to the dining experience. The menu is extensive and if you love a good steak strap in for some of the best cuts and flavours in NZ. The menu is pricy, but for the quality of meat, sides, presentation and service its a bargain. We were even fortunate enough to be given a plate of sorbet between entree and main compliments of the chef. The Sorbet was light, tangy and perfect for cleansing the palate. Every meal was just a show of culinary excellence from entree, main and desert. Even the cocktails and drinks were perfectly balanced. Overall Botswana Butchery is worth every penny, be sure to book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Amazing experience all round. Food was fantastic, we share the wagyu beef, lamb rack, duck fat potatoes (a must!), fresh seasonal asparagus and cauliflower cheese. The waiter was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and attentive without being a pain. Great wine selection, particularly extensive range of Central Otago Pinot Noir. I’d let them know it was my partners 40th when booking and we were give a table overlooking the lake and a happy birthday desert. Exceptional, highly recommended!

Exceptional service. I had eaten but the outdoor fire at The Butchery drew me in. It seemed appropriate to have some cheese and wine. The busy wait staff were very obliging. The cheese platter was ok and the red wine suggestion very good. The fire was big and hot.

Outstanding food, great service and wonderful atmosphere. Quaint little restaurant in the heart of Queenstown overlooking the water. The inside is broken up a bit so it is not so noisy and you feel more private and secluded rather than just one big room.

It was a highlight of our trip to queenstown. From outside the restaurant looks like a small place but it is actually can serve many people inside Tables are a bit close so i feel like i had no privacy but the foods made up everything. Their venison steak was soooo good. Perfectly cooked. Juicy tender. The staff was knowledgable and very attentive. We highly recommend it!!!

Such a divine experience, on arrival I was greeted and felt welcome by the warm friendly staff. Couldn't fault a single thing.. All our dishes were delicious but I thoroughly enjoyed the creme brulee... A true food journey.

It’s a .... ok experience. We were there a little over a week ago for dinner. The place was booked out so we were told to sit outside and forgotten about for 20 minuets. no water, no menus, no service. The place looked understaffed. However, our waiter of the night was great, he knew the menu very well and helped us to place the order based on our like and appetite capacity. The food was great, I loved the lamb T bone special and mr.partner liked his rib eye too. Plus, we had the best apple coleslaw we ever had ! The disappointing part was when we found out the customers were charged for tomato source for $3 and all the seasoning were charged extra too. It’s a joke and a nasty way to treat your customers. For a high end dining experience, you just feed your customer a fly right to their mouth after a delicious meal. The management of this place looked clue less on what they were doing.

We didn’t have a reservation and they were full but we asked for a seat at the bar and went from there. The cocktails are excellent. We had oysters in the bar. Two hours after arriving we had a table. Having drunk so much we couldn’t eat main courses but from the starters the venison tartare, gnocchi and duck liver were excellent. Service is wonderful.

A beautiful restaurant that feels so cozy and inviting from the start. Great warm service and they were very happy to cater to an unusual allergy without my wife feeling like she was missing out. Gorgeous ambience with the open fire and comfortable chairs. The steaks were too notch and I had the scallops for entree which were cooked to perfection. Just simply put a must visit if you want a lovely night out in Queenstown .

Sat at the upstairs bar after a long day at Milford Sound. Nice and cozy atmosphere. Friendly bartender. Food wasn’t memorable, had some local specialties such as the small whole white fish in lemon butter sauce. But all in all an enjoyable experience.

Ive eaten at a few places over the years and i can say I've I just had one of the single best meals ever, my table had the fish, boar and duck with duck fat potatoes, seasonal veggies and goats cheese salad in one of the private rooms and no one could find a fault, worth every dollar. If you want to dine like royalty this is the place in queenstown to be!

Almost 5 stars well worth a return visit. We ordered: Entrée - duck pancakes. Only received 2 pancakes (two of us) which seemed odd given the amount of duck and vegetables that came with the dish. This was the biggest shortcoming of the night. Mains - wild deer (pictured) and 180gm eye fillet. Meat was cooked to perfection, listen to your waiters recommendations on how the kitchen intends to cook the meat - they know their stuff! Dessert - chocolate fondant (pictured). Fantastic dessert. Fondant exactly how you’d expect it to be, runny in the middle, soft, melts in your mouth. Service - staff know their stuff! I did feel that everyone was running around a little too quickly though, which caused hot coffee to be spilt on my gf and I. I understand accidents happen but it does tarnish the overall experience. Staff were very apologetic, no compensation was provided.

The sherry shallot sauce with the fresh oysters is exceptional, went there twice and everything was convincing, great service and wine collection, beautiful place.

Too hungry didn't take any photos. But my goodness every dish here was delicious. Onion soup was extremely flavourful, the steak was cooked perfectly, one of the best mash potatoes ever had. Service was superb as well.

We visited Botswana based on the recommendation of numerous people in northern and southern New Zealand. It features a diverse menu of local Kiwi foods and wines that are thoughtfully prepared in a manner and setting that is comfortable, without being pretentious. We started with the French onion soup that smelled almost as good as it tasted - definitely one of the best I’d ever had. The beet salad featured roasted beetroot, cow’s feta, walnuts, soft herbs, Cabernet vinegar, extra virgin olive oil was a great set up for the main course. The specials came from the chef’s “Little Black Book” which featured items from their food and wine festival submission. The grain-fed Scotch filet from Wakanui was from the L.B.B. which I topped with the blue cheese butter was dry aged for 120 days, and cooked medium (per the chef’s suggestion) to maximize on the marbling. Nearly all steak on the menu is grass fed, so it tends to be leaner which made the grain-fed steak nice and rich but fatty enough so it was very flavorful. The steak coupled with the dark fruit flavors of the Delegat ‘Crownthorpe Terraces’ made the meal feel so complete. We also had the Ora King Salmon filet which was perfectly pink and tender. Sides of the mashed potatoes and gravy was a nice savory treat as a side to our main.

With every other restaurant in town seemingly booked, Botswana Butchery squeezed us in last minute for a birthday dinner. The menu has a great selection of food and drinks, service was quick and pleasant. I'm a vegan and still had a great meal here- there are lots of side plates to choose from and the kitchen was great about removing items (like butter) where requested. The restaurant has a good atmosphere without being too noisy, and it's in a great location. Grabbing a post-dinner desert at the churro stand next door is a great way to to end the night.

Lucky to get sofa seating at the bar area as we walked in. Ribeye with bone was so good with the strong taste of charcoal grill, meat was tender and juicy, good match to go with the herbal butter as recommended. Staff Jayden was very friendly and provided a lot of recommendations. Cozy night with quality food near the fireplace. Highly recommended.

The best best scotch fillet/rib eye I have ever had and I've had many around the world! Loved all that we ordered - ceviche, tempura crab and lamb ribs. The server was extremely friendly. Oh yes we didn't have a reservation, advised to have one, but were quickly seated. You don't expect good service when tipping is not mandatory such as in US but pleasantly surprised.

I had been wanting to try here for awhile as I had heard good things about it from my friends. The service was exceptional and had a great atmosphere inside the restaurant. I had the slow cooked beef short rib which was beautifully cooked.

Best restaurant I have ever been too. Staff were very friendly and went above and beyond to help people with what they wanted. Food was incredible. Lovely ambience, warm cosy place to spend the evening, lots of chatter amongst the tables about the imminent lockdown. Excellent service, delicious entre of scallops with rack of lamb main, cooked to perfection. Very interesting apple tarte tatin desert, with delicious candied walnuts.

Situated near the water in Queenstown city, this restaurant has a great atmosphere and a neat fireplace too. Steaks are good quality and would recommend if you're in Queenstown and they also have an extensive wine list.

We had the Botswana duck entree which was delicious and set the tone leading into the 1.2kg Cadrona lamb shoulder which was absolutely amazing. The lamb just melted off the bone and was so tender and juicy, complemented by the accompanying jus and table sea salt. The duck fat potatoes and cheesy cauliflower were also delicious, but I'd recommend another side to cut through and contrast with the fattiness of the lamb. 5/5

We were a party of 7 on my birthday, in the Champagne Room, and the staff took great care of us all. We had a sommelier pick the best wines and staff recommended the ideal meals. The night ended in front of their outdoor fireplace with some other patrons making it a night to remember. Thanks to the team at Botswana Butchery this will be a birthday to remember!

Excellent service and amazing food and wine. Knowledgeable staff happy to answer any questions. A lovely atmosphere. So many good options on the menu and everything we ordered was outstanding - we had deer tartare, soft shell crab, the snapper and the dry aged sirloin with sides of duck fat potatoes, mesculun salad and portobello mushrooms. Finished with creme brulee for dessert, the best we had ever tasted. Definitely worth a visit and would love to go back there one day.

I came here a few years ago and it was excellent... This year it hasn't disappointed and again offers some of the best food and service in the area. 5 stars all round! To top it all our 'doggy bag bone' is fit for our dog!

The saying you will get what you pay for rings very true here. One of the more expensive resturant's I have eaten in. However the price is more than worth it for the quality of food and service you get. This place is a class above most restaurant's.

Always a great experience at Botswana Queenstown. Excellent service and delicious food. The mashed potato with chicken gravy is so moorish you might forget about why you're there. If you enjoy a peppercorn sauce with your steak I highly recommend the Biltong cured steak, beautifully spicy with a hint of sweetness. Make sure you're hungry.

Bluff Oysters to start and mouth watering Wagu for main with a side of duck fat potatoes and cheesy cauliflower....a glass of red to compliment the Wagu......quality of the highest standard. If you want a meal that is going to still make your mouth water 4 days after...Botswana Butchery is the place to go too...

One of the best nights of my life! I made a booking quite late mid afternoon. Upon hearing I was proposing that evening the staff made the night magical. I am overwhelmed by their genuine caring and attention. Then the food,..... The French Onion Soup was the best soup we had ever had. Pork Cheek amazing. The lamb was perfectly cooked with a divine potato gratin . Steak was excellent. We finished with a creme brûlée which was wonderful. I have known people for years that have not treated me as well as the staff here. From my heart thank you!!!

What an incredible experience! Outstanding food, drinks, service, staff and atmosphere. Everything is so carefully crafted here and the food is perfectly designed, with every element on the plate complimenting one another. The entree standout for us was the open ravioli, which left us speechless. The main course standouts were the scotch fillet and the duck fat potatos. The creme brulee was just exquisite! Visited for the first time today - wait staff are amazingly helpful and ready to offer their experience, whether it be selecting a cocktail or making adjustments to a dish. Pricier than we expected, but the food was amazing and definitely don't have any regrets. Botswana Butchery Queenstown is definitely something you should check out at least once during your Queenstown visit.

The location is fantastic. For me the best restaurant in Auckland. We have been there several times. Whether for breakfast or dinner, the service and taste were excellent.

Lovely dinner experience. Dishes are slightly more basic compared to other restaurants of the same caliber, with the focus being on the quality of the meat (which was naturally excellent). I advise to book a table on the second floor for a more subdued dining experience.

We came for dinner last week, and I was prepared to write them a stellar review. Dinner was amazing, everything we had was incredibly tasty. And then I made the biggest mistake and decided to come for breakfast next morning. That experience completely ruined my memory of a great dinner and I am sure will not recommend the restaurant to anyone. We were seated, we ordered and then started to wait... other people came after us, ordered, ate, paid, and we were still waiting. When we asked the server what happened with our order, she said she will check and then went on to ignore us. When we asked again, she said that the kitchen got busy. That really ticked me off, as the restaurant was almost empty. I would understand if there was a mix up in the kitchen, because that happens, but saying it got busy, when it obviously wasn't, as other people got their food, was very insulting. When we finally got the food, it was not worth the wait. Poached eggs were hard boiled, my husband's sunny side eggs were well done as well. I just wish I never went there for breakfast. The fact that I got my meal for free did not make up for the disappointment, I did not come to eat bad food for free, I came to pay for good food.

This place never disappoints . It's a MUST place for a special meal when in Queenstown. 6 star international level service from the staff. Atmosphere is busy yet you feel like they only looking after you. Cocktails are extremely good and they even popped down the road to try and find the champagne I wanted . The food is some of the best in the country. Oysters are super fresh , the crispy duck pancakes amazing and the signature lamb dish is one of the best . Book ahead so u actually get a table. Good for groups too

My wife and I enjoyed an excellent meal at Botswana Butchery. The place was very busy but the service was outstanding throughout the night. I personally had the french onion soup and eye fillet. The French onion soup was amazing! The same flavour like I had in Paris years ago.

We visited here on 5th Sept. We had a very tasty dinner. The prices are expensive but worth every bite. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. Will visit again next time we're in QT. Thank you for the nice experience.

Yet again, smashed it out of the park. That’s three from three. Been twice in Auckland and now once in QT. Has to be in my top ten restaurants. The food is amazing and I’ve never been disappointed with the wine. Service has been great too. It is pricy but worth it in my opinion. Have only been there for dinner.

Food was fantastic BUT!!!! We both ordered medium rare steaks, one Wagyu and one Eye Fillet, and we were served the wrong steaks!! If we hadn't ordered different accompanying sauces we wouldn't have known any better. Upon questioning when WE IDENTIFIED the sauces and mistake, the staff acknowledged their mistake but that was all - no offer of a complimentary condiment or similar. So NO TIP AND NO FIVE STARS.

The service and food was the highlight of our recent trip to Queenstown. Thomas, the executive chef made sure we were well looked after. It was very unfortunate he was not working that night so I could thank him personally. Our server, Romain was truly excellent and knowledgeable, and made it a 5 star dining experience. 4 of us turned up just after 9pm without a reservation. We were greeted and seated very quickly. The service was friendly and great. Our meal was exceptional. The $100 steak well worth it! Couldn't fault the food or wine. I'm glad we went here.

We had starter as oyster and French onion soup, main dish as lamb and T bone stake. Everything was perfectly cooked staff is friendly except the fact that we ordered too much 😂 Loved how they cooked the lamb. The sauce coming together with the lamb is amazing! But the price is rather experience.

We walked in on a busy Thursday night which was completely booked out but the staff were nice enough to allow us to eat along the bar. We were close to the end of our trip in Queenstown and really wanted to give this place a go since we've heard the good reviews. Staff were friendly and we had a great chat with some of the bar staff. The food was amazing - I live in South Australia and we're pretty famous for our oysters but I can hands down say I had the best oysters right here at this restaurant. For mains we got something off the butchers block - can honestly say it was the best steak I've ever had - cooked to perfection. Prices are a little steeper but I think it's worth it for the experience & wonderful food. Would definitely come back if I'm visiting Queenstown!

I don’t mean to raise anyone’s expectations of this place... but this was my favourite dining experience of my life. The atmosphere, service & food were all played out to perfection. My wagyu steak (cooked medium rare) was the single best cut of meat I’ve had in my entire life. Included in my sides were duck fat potatoes which were somehow crispy, yet melted in my mouth. I won’t go over everything I ordered as it would take too long; but please ensure you order crème brûlée as your dessert. The only drawback was that average cost of each dish & drink was slightly higher than most places, however you almost certainly get your money’s worth. Thank you so much to the awesome staff here who provided such an excellent experience for my partner and I!

Staff where brilliant! Meat,fish and poultry lovely. What was very average was out of the packet fries! Plus you had to pay for your sauce or butter which again was straight out of a packet. For a high range restaurant very below par for your extras!

After more than one recommendation to visit this restaurant while holidaying in Queenstown from Australia, we made a reservation. The google and word of mouth reviews were glowing. The service lived up to expectation. The staff were excellent, the sommelier engaging and we were impressed with his local knowledge in particular. On the positives, the confit hare risotto, eye fillet, and apple tartin were the highlights. For the remainder the food was good quality, well prepared but just didn't quite live up to expectations given the reviews and the price point. I had been looking forward to to this as one of the highlights of Queenstown but just feel that there are other places I would spend my time and money when I return.

We have not long returned home from our Wedding and time in NZ. We just wanted to pass on our most sincere thanks for the absolutely wonderful Wedding Reception we were able to host at Botswana. To us, the night was absolutely perfect - your team did an impeccable job all round. So many of our guests commented on how absolutely delicious the food was - with the arachini balls, lamb and chocolate mouse dessert all being absolute crowd favourites. Whats more, no-one ever had an empty glass of wine or water all night long. The atmosphere was warm and intimate and the staff serving in our area were beautiful and caring in their demeanour. We couldn’t not have chosen a more beautiful setting than the Owner’s Room to host our intimate reception - it turned out exactly as we had hoped. Thank you also for being so easy and accommodating during the planning of our wedding - no question was too much or too hard and we sincerely appreciated you professionalism, experience and advice. We created memories at Botswana that will last us a lifetime and we cannot wait to visit again in the future - it will now always be a very special place.

We had this on our first evening at Queenstown and it was amazing. Perfect french onion soup and steaks were done to perfection. Prices were not expensive and even though we didn’t order wine (teetotal), they didn’t scoff at us and service was still impeccable. Would highly recommend for a good dinner!

We got married in Queenstown and had our post wedding meal here. The food was delicious and our waiter Ali was fantastic, giving us excellent advice and was more than happy to help with what ever we asked. Would definitely recommend.

Had a look at their menu online and it looked great, so a group of us went and thought we'd check it out. The place is nice, the waitress who looked after us was awesome(couldn't remember her name) and the menu looked great. its best to call them to see if they have the actual cut of meat you want etc. A couple of us were interested in getting the Dry Aged Steak, Grain Fed only to be told they didn't have any. For starters we got the Oysters and Roasted Duck, no point getting the roasted duck due to low quantity and also it seems like it was roasted too long and became like a 'pulled duck' instead. I got the Rib Eye on Bone, the outer part of the steak was cooked too well, but as you cut into the steak it became medium (like I ordered), the roasted garlic that it came with was very nice, I'd still go to The Grill on Federal St for a steak, as I reckon they cook much better for a very similar price. Down side: Service was average, a bit slow.Steak didn't come with any sauces/butters which were $3 extra each!!. Every other place I've been to came with options of butter and sauces. Sides were average. Reason for the 3 star rating: Comments from the 'Down Side' Section. Also I booked our table online for 6.15pm, I spent almost $500 to dine at this place and one of the waitresses that we hadn't seen all night told us we had to leave because there was another couple wanting our table and they had booked it, she was quite rude about it as well. It wasn't our fault that you couldn't accommodate for customers waiting, quite disappointed at that, Not the best experience.

Only one word for it - spectacular! The food was outstanding, the view we had from the best seat in the house was just stunning and staff were great. Loved it !

Excellent dressed up local offerings in a cozy atmosphere. The South Island Wild Boar plate lived up to the excitement. Husband enjoyed the fjordland deer plate just as well. Wonderful Mahurangi oysters and soups to start (french onion for me, cauliflower for him). Expertly crafted cocktails and an enormous local wine list. Our server, Louis, went above and beyond to answer our questions and offer helpful guidance. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars rests on the host's shoulders: upon our arrival (18:30) we agreed to snag a quick table with the understanding that it had a reservation booked for 20:00 and we must be out by then - no problem - glad they could accommodate us. Halfway through our meal, the host found it necessary to come around and less than subtly "remind" us that we must be finished before 20:00, even offering to clear some dishes away. His less than friendly demeanor sat sourly on the palate; it was only just 19:15 and we'd plenty of time left to enjoy ourselves undisturbedly without tarnishing our experience with his rushed manner. Indeed, we left with time to spare at 19:40. I'd rather not have been seated at all than feel the awkwardness he imparted in the middle of our otherwise lovely dinner. It's not as though we begged for a table after all...front of house staff needs improvement in hospitality. Everyone else was fantastic, as was the food.

This restaurant deserves all the praise it receives. Great food, warm inviting style and staff who are extremely friendly and attentive. Ordered a variety of dishes, all were fresh and packed with flavour. Meats were cooked perfectly and melted in the mouth. They had a great lounge upstairs with an open fire.

A MUST EAT IN AUCKLAND OR QUEENSTOWN! Amazing service and food! I had the lamb roti rolls and one was more than enough.

My husband and I are currently on our honeymoon and we wanted to have a special night out at a really nice restaurant. Botswana Butchery certainly delivered. Not only was all of the food fantastic, but it may in-fact be my favorite restaurant. We were given our own private room on the second floor. I ordered the market fish and was amazed at the lightness of it. My husband's steak may have been the single greatest piece of beef that I have ever had. On top of these facts, we were lucky enough to have Lindsey as our waitress. She kept on top of all of our orders, consistently checked up on us to ensure that we were ok (but not too much thankfully), and even shared a little about herself and her story. She took a genuine interest in us and really tried to make our evening special and we couldn't be more thankful to her and her hard work. I would recommend that anyone who is looking for a special evening and is ok with a pricer menu go to the Butchery.

We had the most amazing evening, ordered the soup to start, Devine! Then the signature slow lamb shoulder with sides and red wine to match. It’s the third time I’ve enjoyed the same dish 3 times on my visits over the mast 12 years and each time it has been amazing! Such a great achievement to sustain such top standards over so long a time period. The service was wonderful, attentive without being intrusive. Finally, escorted to a delightful room with a fire to consider deserts and cheese by a wood fire, the perfect end to a lovely dinner! 5 stars from me are hard to acquire where I’m not a high end restaurant type of chap really.

Service was top notch and so was the food, dined for lunch and would love to go back for dinner. I work in hospitality in Queenstown hosting guests from round the world and often recommend and book this restaurant for them. I feel assured after dinning that my recommendations are well placed. So why four stars I hear you ask... I say it with hesitation I will admit, but know what I saw... a duty manager with a face like he was sucking on a lemon and seemed to have a stressed relationship with his staff. He was poorly presented and even slightly rude when I made a inquiry before being seated regarding smoking area. To the staffs credit they could tell I was put out by the way I was treated and with the professionalism I had wanted to see from him the two ladies who served us did a wonderful job of making me feel like a valued customer again. I have a lot of faith in this restaurant and know that disruptive people like him do not stay long in Queenstown before being pushed out, leaving behind the wonderful committed staff I had the pleasure of interacting with during my meal.

Superb dining. Super friendly staff. Amazing dinner.. I haven't had cauliflower cheese like that for too long! The eye fillet was beautiful! The decor is rich and comfortable. This is a five star not inexpensive experience. I would go again for sure!

Botswana has turned into one of my firm favourites.I head on over most nights after 9pm and the service is always fast and efficient. definitely no waiting and the food is always cooked to perfection. They also have some of the best priced Bluff Oysters in town. I absolutely will recommend this restaurant as one of the best in New Zealand. Well done guys :)

Went there tonight. The food was fantastic, the service not so great. Your waiter takes your order but your food is delivered by others. If your waiter doesn't check on you (and ours did not - she didn't even stop by) then no one knows that part of your order was not delivered. By the time our sides showed up (which we had to tell our absentee waiter about) our steaks were gone. Then we had to wait for a long time for our check. Considering the prices you pay, the service should be exemplary. All in all, very disappointed which is sad since the food is delicious.

Great food and wine. Service was good. Was my birthday and they did a nice happy birthday with my dessert. Not happy with where we were seated. Right by the cashier so every time someone arrived or left they stood right by you encroaching and distracting, no sense of intimacy or privacy. Very disappointing, especially when my husband and I were wanting a romantic dinner for my birthday. Plus every time someone entered or left (which was often) we felt a cold rush of air.

Absolutely outstanding. The food was of very high quality and the service matched it. Decent serving sizes as well. The drinks menu also is very varied. We went to many fine dining venues in queenstown and this was by far the best experience.

Went to a wedding here on Saturday night, staff, food and wine were absolutely spot on! They catered for a group of 30 absolutely seamlessly. Probably my 5th visit her over the years and all have been sensational, I wish I lived closer!

Food was great but service and cleanliness was very poor. The slow roasted lamb shoulder is a must order, and as the menu states, this is a portion for 2 (or more). The outdoor seating was perfect in Jan / Feb although the pile of plates and glasses left on numerous outdoor tables was very unappealing. Servers were hard to find and some items ordered were not received, although they appeared on the bill.

This used to be our favourite restaurant when visiting Queenstown but not any more! The service and food does not match the pricing. It’s feels like they have had a change of chefs or staff, just not the same feel, we felt 2nd rate and an inconvenience. $84 for my steak, this did not include sides, sides then at $10.95 each and a dessert on top $19 is just ridiculous. I used to know what I was paying for when we went there but tonight I felt our $1100 bill was about $300 over priced. Such a shame!

Really wonderful menu. I'm a pescatarian so it was sort of an odd choice since their menu is largely centered around red meat, but I found the seafood options delicious and thoughtfully prepared.

Recently brought a group of colleagues here for dinner while in Queenstown. The whole experience was absolutely sensational. During the booking communication was clear/accurate/accomodating and on the evening everything was arranged exactly as promised. The meal was amazing, the food choices were brilliant and the quality of the food was up there with the best I have experienced. All dietary requirements were catered for perfectly and without complaint. Could not ask for more....

Came here for lunch. Was hoping for some oysters and fish, but they had no oysters. The market fish of the day was blue cod, which was well prepared. The waiter asked me to choose a "sauce" (which is charged separately): I chose a garlic butter sauce, but turned out it was just garlic butter, not a sauce, and added nothing to an otherwise fine dish. After finishing my dish, no one took away the plates or asked me about dessert for a good 20 minutes. Finally I asked for the dessert menu and selected a simple Edam cheese. Another 20 minutes passed and nothing came. Although the fish was good, I didn't find it good enough to justify both the inattentive service, the price, or the rating.

Service was great and the food were delicious! The bar area was surprisingly quiet and I really enjoyed dining there. It was much quieter than the main dining area and the service was just as good! I tried the lamb shoulder and it was cooked two ways and both were very delicious!

Fantastic food. Get the merino lamb shoulder and a couple of sides. Steer clear of the wine because they mostly start at $100 a bottle. Service was a bit of a miss for us. Trying to do the fine dining thing with a transient workforce might be the issue.

Botswana Queenstown is a great spot for a drink, cocktails and lunch or dinner. Food is excellent and cocktails exquisite. Try sitting by the outside fire while the sun sets.

Service was excellent and the lunch menu seemed well price for the level of quality of the food. The restaurant is also a really nice place to be inside and out. Interior is very tasteful and the outdoor seating area gives a good view of the harbour.

Service was excellent. Food great. Fantastic seating by log fire. Price on the steep side especially when you have to pay for extra vegetables. Cocktails not as expected however they refunded the cost of these.

Made a booking for 9 people and we were seated in a private room. Everything we ordered was terrific - Spiced Crispy Squid, Wild South Island Boar, T-Bone daily special, and Ribeye on the Bone.

Weekend away with 7 friends. Great service. Good cocktails. Word of warning - don't order the duck !!! It was bitsy. Not the right temperature. Useless veges with it. It's a steak restaurant so order steak. Philly sandwich was very good.

One of the nicest restaurants I’ve been to, warm and cozy, the staff were just incredible, engaging and knowledgeable. Our waitress gave us the best advise on the great food. The deserts are amazing, the apple tartin?!? Or something like that was just great and the creme brûlée was even beter, if it could be. A wonderful experience

Fine dining restaurant in Queenstown. Service was flawless and the food delicious. Shared the 1.2 kg lamb shoulder and it was quite a bit of meat. Quality was on par with high end restaurants in my hometown of San Francisco.

Probably the best option along the lake. Cozy atmosphere with fireplace and great service. Booking is a must otherwise you get bumped to lounge area which is not suitable for seated dinner. Sommelier was very knowledgeable and gave perfect advice!

Was recommended this place from a local before my trip to NZ. Definitely worth a try and bookings are a must. We ended up coming in for lunch and had some delicious cocktails with our steak dishes.

I wouldn't hurry back here. The maître d was very rude to begin with and it didn't get much better from there. The wait staff were very inexperienced and had little or no knowledge of the food or wine. Food was quite nice but definitely dissatisfied with the service.

Well cooked meat tasty sides, desert was good. Pricey, but worth it one of the best restaurants meals in NZ.

Lovely location, good service and nice atmosphere. We got the dry aged T bone steak which was $125. It was good but not really good enough to be $125! Also you'd think if you're paying that much for a steak you wouldn't get charged $3 per sauce.

Great meal, great service. I really enjoyed our evening out. The soup was delicious, the lamb perfect and dessert capped it off.

Great experience overall, lovely staff and food. It is a place for meat lovers. I wasnt over the moon about my pork belly, but the squid entree was so tasty and my partner loved his venison. Amazing cocktails also, and they are accomodating if you want something that isnt on their cocktail menu.

If you're a fan of game meats you're gonna love this place. We ordered the wild boar, venison and rabbit, all cooked to perfection. Side of Brussels Sprouts with pancetta, cooked in Apple juice - awesome combo. Our waitress suggested a local pinot noir to match our meals - we loved it. We had our one and three year old kids with us - they supplied highchairs.

Not only Was this my favourite restaurant in queenstown and the best steak I have ever had. They brought me a dessert for finishing my steak. Haha. Now I have eaten at the best restaurants in the world and I can truly say they have an establishment that could compete. Great staff. Wine is amazing. And the setting is lovely and convinient. A very special meal. And I would suggest this as the best restaurant in Queentown! Thank you. And I will be back!

We had an incident with one of our group members becoming unwell during dinner and team in Botswana Butchery were very accommodating and prompt with their assistance. Jamie (the manager that night) and our waiter, Valentina, were not only concerned for the wellbeing of our sick friend, they were also hospitable to the rest group when our friend needed to leave early. We felt that the team went above of what was expected from them in response to the situation. Thank you very much for making the experience as positive as it can be. P.S. The meals we had were exquisite. I am still dreaming about the gnocchi entree.

Fantastic food and wine. Service was a bit slow and our waiter was quite stressed, telling us his fellow upstairs waiter had abandoned him. Will definitely return, possibly on a weeknight next time.

Celebrated bday dinnering here. Server was polite throughout the service. We were recommended the house speciality duck and Fiordland Deer meat and its tenderness and flavours was not disappointing indeed. Our side order of onion rings was forgotten and came only towards end of our meal but was offered on the house, kind gesture by restaurant with a slice of bday presented prettily plated. A well ambience restaurant with good food, a pricing a tad expensive though splurge if got special occasion.

You need a reservation! This time we were organised and had one, great service! The food was delicious, lots of local wines, meats and food. Amazingly cooked, great meal!

Service was good. Food was good for the most part, although my steak was slightly under the medium rare I asked for and maybe a little sinewy.

I'm knocking a star off for service. We waited 20 minutes before someone came over to our table. The restaurant is trendy and the food is tasty; however I was disappointed with the overall experience.

Wish I could give 6 stars! Although the food is slightly expensive (it is Queenstown though:)) the food and wine tasted amazing - the meat was gorgeously cooked and the sauces matched perfectly. The service tonight was top notch. First - they found us a table, despite us accidentally booking in Auckland instead of Queenstown. Second - they spoke to the loud, rude table of 'men' (acting like boys) beside us about their behaviour and rudeness. When that didn't help, the manager moved us upstairs away from the obnoxiousness and we went back to enjoying our meal. Thankyou so much for looking after us! Had a great night.

One of the more expensive options in town, but you do get great food and service. We had deer and lamb, and both were done exceptionally well. Tip: we got a seat at the upstairs bar, skipping all the wait and reservations and had a great time: it's relatively quiet, great service, and cozy.

Awesome high-end restaurant, make sure you book ahead as it's popular. The meat cuts were amazing as were the oysters and soft shell crab. The food is actually European/french-ish with lots of meat, not really African. I think it's just called Botswana as the chef worked in botswana for a long time before coming to NZ.

Simply incredible. Elisa was our server and she seriously made our night. She was so knowledgeable, funny, and just a delight! The food was absolutely fantastic and the desserts were even better!

Fantastic food and great venue. If you are into game meat I would highly recommend the rabbit main course, the confit leg was very tender and the pie was exceptional. Great wine list with local and international wines.

Delicious meal and wine. Great recommendations from our waitress for place to eat when we visit Auckland. The chairs are amazingly comfortable. Would go back 100 times!

It looked really good from outside to the inside but do not expect to find any touch of Africa in the decor or anything (except a few knives on the wall) that reminds you of a butchery. Warm lounges with fireplaces are great for a pre dinner drink. The service is also excellent and if you are from any other country (Except from the African continent), there is a good chance that someone will speak your language. A decent piece of steak cooked to perfection would cost you around $90 which is a bit over the top but still fine until you realise that you also have to pay for the sauces separately, then pay for a couple of side dishes at $18.00 a piece... Make sure to choose the green salad with shreded prosciuto, the ceasar dressing is good and this is the only dish that seems to be large enough to fill your plate. My main dish only came to NZ$140.00 and was not any better than the eye filet steak I had at the Methven Dubliner the night before which was $100 cheaper and definitely less pretentious. My wife had a fish dish with an average sauce (paid separately) and some dry and overcooked prawns. The americano coffee was a real "Jus de chaussette" (Sock juice in French) but we finished with a couple of microscopic but excellent deserts. A bit disapointing!

This is an amazing place with water front views. It’s got amazing food and drink options and I fell in love with everything on the menu. I even saw famous celebrities dining here at the same time.

Yum, if like like your meat, this is the place for you. Slow cooked lamb shoulder roast is great shared with another like-minded carnivore. Did I say yum?

Beautiful dinner with decent pricing! The restaurant is quite full, better book early on. The staffs are very knowledgeable with the food and wine. Woul love to come back for more :)

This place was excellent. Food was delicious. Our waiter, Devin, made good recommendations and was always friendly. The venison tartare starter was amazing. If you like tartare or carpaccio it is a must try. Steaks were perfectly cooked and the duck fat potatoes were delicious I'm so glad we left this place as our last meal in Queenstown. It was excellent.

Such a devine treat! Incredible food, awesome service, beautiful setting. We have been now a few times to celebrate special occasions, and just for a casual drink out in the sun and have always very much enjoyed.

Amazing steakhouse in a beautiful area. Definitely get the steak, the wine is excellent as well. The decor in the place is great and some of the furniture pieces deserve a second look. Afterwards, a perfect end to your meal would be to stroll along Marine Parade taking in the view of Lake Wakatipu!

Amazing food and service. The oysters here are out of this world and go perfectly with the balsamic vinegarette. I tried the duck and venison mains which were both perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The staff here are all delightful and very dilligent in catering for coealiac needs.

I am presently booking a trip to the USA where I will commit a crime worthy of the death penalty, just so that I can have Botswana Butchery as my final meal. Food as deliciously creative yet simple and recognisable as can be found anywhere. Not cheap, but the best rarely is. Try the devilled duck liver, you will not regret it.

We must be spoilt in Aus because the steaks were way below what I was hoping for. Rib on the bone is supposed to be thick and meaty not 15mm thick. Wine was amazing and service was top notch.

Vibrant atmosphere, fantastic selection of wines and incredible menu made up of very high quality produce, i'm not often blow away but this time definitely was.

We went in without a reservation about 5 and they seated us promptly, although it does get very busy one should RSVP. They bent over backwards trying to help my wife choose a course because she is lactose intolerant.

Rich French Onion soup, wild game, entrees that can be shared, good selection of craft beers and a roaring fire outside which is perfect for sitting around and gazing at the stars. Also accommodating for vegetarians and vegans

Great place, the red deer and the high country lamb are really their signature dishes. I highly recommend them. It went great paired with the 2008 briar gully Pinot noir.

Just marvellous, always make a journey to Botswana when visiting Queenstown. You will never taste meat as good as served here and accompanied by a good wine list and polite service.

Always love the slow roast shoulder of Merino and the warm salads and sides. We have had a number of meals both celebratory and business events there and would highly recommend Botswana to anyone.

Have been here a couple of times while on Queenstown and while it’s a good choice for a nice evening out, it’s a bit pricey and service is pretty slow. Took a while to even get a drink this time and meal took a while.

The desserts at Botswana Butchery were it's saving grace, the mains were nice but disappointing given the price tag. Service was very good as well thanks to the attentive and friendly staff.
