Oh be aware, these are huge portions of amazing food pictured the platter for 1 and two starters. The cheese balls are like cheese scones or American biscuits. Dip them in a sauce and wow. Local pink gin and tonic and a beer. Also the views out over the lake are beautiful. Enjoy! Even better than our first visit! And the staff were amazing.

On a recent trip to Queenstown, flame bar&grill was our first destination on arrival. The restaurant is located right next to the port, which was easy to find using google map. People who haven’t been there, the restaurant is actually on the second floor which has a separate entrance to the bar below. When you see the door to the bar, walk around the corner of the building and the door to the restaurant is on the other side. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very relaxing and the lighting makes the food appear super appetising. The baked spinach with cheese, mushrooms, and the pork ribs were the absolute star. We had to dine again before our return. Would highly recommend the pork ribs, grilled with char but the meat is still tender, with soft bones that I personally enjoyed. The salmon itself was cooked nicely, but the fact that they put cold potato salad below made the fish taste a little bit fishy. You could upgrade your chips to mashed potatoes which was divine. I will definitely recommend this restaurant and can’t wait to go there again in the future. Hope people find this useful.😊

Its a very good dinning experience. It lives up to its name. I had the sausage to start, really nice flavour. The fat and the tangy chimichuri blends perfectly. Then i had the rib and steak combo for mains. Gotta say one of the better ribs that i had and the steak was done to my liking and its perfect, personally i would have the sauce on the side for the steak and the fried onion. I wanted to taste the beef more. Other than that service, food and ambiance is a 13/15 for me would definitely come back. Worth the try if you haven't been

Right on lakefront near wharves. Bit noisy inside (Saturday) but outside great for people-watching. Off $20 mains menu hubby chose ribs and I got pork belly. Both so tender and flavorsome and filled us up. Staff lovely and efficient. Will return.

One of the best ribs I've ever tasted. Ambience is really nice, food tasted great, perfect place for a gathering. I've ordered mixed grill which is chicken, pork ribs, and upgraded sirloin beef. Pork ribs really fantastic but the chicken a bit dry and the beef slightly overcooked. Mushroom sauce is a da bomb. Recommend to all for that.

Perfect place for bbq ribs lovers. Meals portion are pretty big and they require you to order one meal per person, most items of the menu are pretty pricey but your allowed to order sides/appetizers to share as long as everyone orders something. Good environment, booking beforehand is recommended. Personally, I love their lamb skewers the most, get this if you don’t feel like ribs or anything too big.

The food was so so good! I had the rib/steak combo and it was just amazing! The waiter we had at the beginning recommended the blue cheese sauce and now it's all I can think about when I cook at home. It was delish! My family had the salmon and steak and said they were both delicious too. The waitress that we had for the second half of dinner, Jasmine was excellent, she was very friendly and helpful.

Especially I fell in love with mozambique prawns. It was amazing. I’m just sad because I don’t know when I can be here again. You need to BOOK for dinner. Always busy.

Possibly the best ribs i’ve ever had - we had the Flame Mixed Grill and my word, an absolutely delectable selection of the best meats, perfectly cooked to our liking. Even after such a large selection of meats we just had to try a couple of their awesome desserts - and we could not look past their excellent wine list including some beautiful central Otago reds. Our server Sammy provided impeccable service, was a lovely person and contributed the the great deal of fun we had. Cannot wait to return here!

The pork rib and the chargrilled mushroom were very tasty. I was also surprised by the roasted potato with the sour cream on the side. The service was also great. They delivered our food very fast even they were quite busy. Definitely make a reservation in advance especially when you have a large group.

Friendly, cheerful and helpful staffs. Delicious food, especially pork ribs rack, ribs eyes and Mozambique prawns. Children meal also nice and we'll presented. All food is cooked with passion. Highly recommended. Have wow factor, will be back!

I love steak, and I am often disappointed by places charging a huge amount claiming to be the best steak in town but delivering a terrible experience. I think I am a bit picky, but I can honestly say this was the best fillet steak I have eaten in a very long time. Great accompaniments, but as a purist the sources were not needed AT ALL! We got the 1kg ribeye steak for two with the seasonal veges and mashed potatoes for the sides. Wow! Delicious! Everything was super yummy and it didn't take the full 45 minutes for food to arrive as expected. The steak was really good and I 100% recommend it, but the standout for me was the mashed potato! I dream about! I could eat just that on its own and be happy.

Epically great. Really enjoyed every part of dinner. It was our last night in queen'stown and looking for a nice place to eat. Flame had what I love in a meat meal so I took a punt... That plus it's reviews are good Had the mixed plate with a 350g ribeye, Ribs, chicken and sausage. From the first bite to the last it was amazing. Had enough for a left over breakfast and even the next day re heated the flavour was epic! Highly rated!

Fantastic experience, there was a mix up with one of the meals from out table and management sorted it out immediately with no hesitation, which we were very happy with even though we weren't upset about it as we know that mistakes happen. The sticky pork ribs and the Aromatic Chicken are the best items on the menu. Also quite liked the apple slaw salad to go as a crunchy side. Did not like the peri-peri chicken as the chicken barely had any seasoning and was pretty much bland. Would not like to order peri peri ever again. Also, this place is on the pricey side.

Amazing food.. I wish I knew this restaurant before.. one of the waitresses or duty manager at the reception wasn’t that kind though. That’s the only drawback but otherwise we really enjoyed the food.

We hit the absolute jack pot coming here, the customer service was excellent, the cocktails were dreamy and the food was to die for. Definitely recommend the pork ribs with chips! If there are only two of you and would like to try something else then half rack will be more than enough (we ordered full rack and it's way too much). Chips are crunchy. House milkshakes are also pretty unique and nice.

My goodness... if you're looking for a place to come to punish your stomach, this is it. The portion sizes are incredible and the food itself is absolutely gorgeous. Ended up going here twice and on both occasions getting more food than I probably should have. The ribs are gorgeous, the steak is gorgeous, the Peri Peri chicken is gorgeous... there really isn't anything here that is underwhelming! Highly recommended.

This popular South African rib and steak house was recommended several times so it was one on the list to try whilst in Queenstown. We started with the NZ green lip mussels which were extremely tasty. For my main I ordered the half rack of pork ribs with roast baby potatoes. The ribs were quite average to be honest, I was expecting something amazing but couldn’t find it. The meat wasn’t as tender as I had hoped, and the marinade was more of a tangy bbq sauce than anything infused with spices.

My husband was looking to have venison and lamb (2 types of meat that are difficult to find at home) and they were recommended and did not disappoint. I got steak, because I love steak and it was delicious! In fact, it's been almost a year and my husband brought up this place the other day - it's definitely stayed with us. We showed up after our tour and they were just able to squeeze us in before another reservation, so I do recommend reservations, if you can get them. WOULD I RETURN HERE: 100% WOULD I PLAN TO STOP HERE ON A TRIP: Yes. I don't think it's anything you'd miss if you didn't get to stop here, but for meat lovers, I thought it was definitely a great stop - plus we got the balcony, so the views were amazing!

An unexpected gem recommended by our friendly taxi driver. My partner and I didn’t expect too much initially, but was pleasantly surprised. We arrived at the restaurant just two minutes away for our reservation, and was happily greeted by staff. We were seated right by the window, and had a beautiful view of the lake. As for the menu, we ordered two appetisers being the prawns & chicken wings. The prawn dish was absolutely amazing, and well portioned as any more than that serving would have been overwhelming. The chicken wings were also delicious but not as memorable. In terms of the main selection, we had chosen the platter for one, to share as the two of us aren’t strong eaters. It was definitely a big platter. The ribs were delectable! I highly recommend getting the ribs alone too. The pork ribs were tender and the meat was cooked to a perfection of falling off the bone. The steak & sausage were also great. An overall amazing experience. And my pro tip is make sure you make a reservation in advance. My partner and I watched at least 10 different patrons being turned away due to be booked out.

Real good ribs must try, words cannot describe it enough. The combo and the seafood chowders are absolutely stunning. The waitress is a bit less friendly during the busy time. It is baby friendly, apart from there is no lift and the restaurant is on the first floor.

Consistent excellent service and food every year. Love their new premises with the more extensive view. Had the highly recommended Fillet Royal burger (practically melted in my mouth) and a quarter rack of ribs which definitely melts and is so flavourful. My friend had the full rack and added the side of mushroom sauce. At $4.90 it seems expensive but worth every drop. The oreo milkshake was extravagant and I also enjoyed the cocktail martini(?) that came with the side of prosecco shot.

We really enjoyed our dinner here, the staff was friendly and answered all our questions. Food was deliver quick and accurately. Atmosphere was cozy and casual. The Flame Mixed Grill is huge! So much meat, and one portion plus an appetizer was plenty for us (two females), though there is a policy of one meal per person (appetizers count as half a meal). Although the ribs are famous here, they weren't my favourite - but I enjoyed the boerewors, steak and peri peri chicken. The seafood chowder was also excellent.

Pork ribs are strongly recommended, sweet mouth, the amount is too large, must be half point! The naked eye steak is also especially recommended, medium can be ~ drink recommended straw cocktail, tropical fruit that is also better and sweeter, kiwi that slightly sour, like more sour can try.

Amazing experience both times dining at Flame. Went to Queenstown for our Honeymoon and came across flame. Didn't have a booking on both visits but was still accommodated very quickly. Staff were amazing. Second visit no tables were ready but had a few drinks at the bar. Epic bartender, modified drinks to our taste and even made a cocktail I requested that wasn't on their menu - he'd never even made it before but still made it for me. Food was just amazing, best Eye fillet we've ever had. The 1kg steak was a bit fatty, not as much meat is we thought but still great flavour and cooked very well. 100% value for money. Probably spent closes to $400 with both visits combined but was absolutely worth it. Would dine again here without hesitation!!

The place was packed in the evening, even before 7pm. We were lucky enough to get a table in less than 10 minutes even without booking. Strongly recommended to book a table in advance, unless one doesn’t mind waiting for an hour. There were a lot of walk-ins who couldn’t get a table. Hardly order ribs on a normal basis. Decided to try their ribs since they are famous for it. Ordered the chicken and ribs combo and it was really good! This combo is meant for 1, however, for those who has a smaller appetite, it’s definitely good for 2. Good selection of drinks!

Really good food, the lamb thingo (comes on a spike, not sure what was it called) is really good, great flavour, texture and the sauces are spot on. Not sure if it is just me, but it could be a bit bigger, even though maybe it's just because it is so good that I could keep on eating it untill new Zealand run out of lamb. Also the sticky date pudding is really good, beautiful presentation, the right portion for a dessert. The only downside is the space, the restaurant is just too crowded and small to fully enjoy the meal (also pretty noisy), hence the missing fifth star. Overall I would suggest it to anyone who wants a good meal in Queenstown. Call to make a reservation before, or you'll probably have to wait for someone to leave.

We booked through the website ahead of time as we were travelling up from near Invercargill (just for lunch at the Flame - that's how good we think this crew are!). We requested the dry aged rib eye on the bone for two off the dinner menu. Not only did the team phone us to double check our order, and confirm that we could in fact order this for lunch - they asked us for our ETA and had the rib eye ready for us pretty much as soon as we'd sat down and got ourselves comfortable with a drink. It was cooked to PERFECTION. We've never had a bad experience at the Flame, and the service is generally impeccable too :) (I'd also recommend the mixed grill for two - and no matter what, ALWAYS go for the blue cheese sauce with your steak!)

Great food and a great setting. The restaurant has a warm feeling with its dim lighting and fireplace. The food was fantastic. We started with the mixed entree for one which was delicious and large enough to share between two. My wife had the 150gm fillet steak which was much larger than expected & I went for the “monster” 550gm t-bone. Both were cooked perfectly and with an extra side of vegetables we both left ready to burst. The service was great. Wait staff were friendly, attentive and made sure that we were well taken care of. This is an extremely busy restaurant so I would suggest booking in advance. We walked in off the street the night before and were told it would be a 2hr wait before anything was available.

Hands down delicious food! Ordered the beef fillet combo and was served the best steak I've had in my life (the mushroom sauce on the side wasn't my cup of tea, but the dish didn't need it)! Tried my mates ribs which were just amazing! Staff were friendly but hard to get their attention sometimes, but it was such a busy night for them. We did have to ask for the lemon water bowl to clean our hands with after the ribs however. Prices are quite high but you get what you pay for- and that's delicious food. So glad I got the chance to eat here!

I own a restaurant so always cautious to do reviews. I’ll start by saying I loved the food and loved the service from our waiter. However the owner/manager was very quick to get my family out. We ordered two kids meals which came out right away and were ok but the kids actually ended up eating off our platter which was delicious. We had the flame mixed grill for two, upgraded to the filet and added the mushroom sauce (great recommendations from our server) and each had a cocktail. As we finished our meal our delightful server came back and asked the kids if they were ready for their ice cream included in the kids meal so we asked for a second cocktail each while they had their ice cream. As soon as our waiter walked away a man came up who must have either been a manager or owner and asked if we could leave in the next five minutes because the next reservation had arrived and they were waiting for our table. We had not received our drinks or the ice cream or even our bill so we felt very thrown off. We were enjoying our meal until basically asked to leave. We have never experienced this before and felt confused and thrown off. Would probably give 1 star but as a restaurant owner i just won’t because I know how much heart and soul goes into your place of business but also felt like this offended us as customers enough to dimish what would had been an enjoyable experience. That being said I would return to enjoy the food and staff but hope that the management would treat us kinder in the future.

Had been wanting to try this place a few times on previous trips to Queenstown. Finally made it there. Super busy, but the staff were attentive so there was no delays, had plenty of drink service and the food was great. I personally had the mango chicken skewer and would recommend it.

We were a group of four and got the full rack of ribs as this is what they are so famous for as well as the mix platter for two which is a selection of sausages, ribs, chicken and steak. The ribs were definitely our favourite with the meat falling off the bones and finger licking sauce. The sauce on the chicken was too spicy for my group but the chicken itself was nice and tender. To avoid disappointment definitely make reservations ahead of time. This can be done through their website and just remember that you'll receive a reminder email on the day of your booking to reply and confirm your booking. You might want to check your junk mail as this is where I found mine.

Flame Bar & Grill is the best restaurant in Queenstown for our family. The beef fillet (order with the mushroom sauce) is exquisite. The Calamari, Seafood Chowder and Oreo milkshake are really good. We walked about 100m before he called us telling a table was ready and that it would be set up any minute. Pros: The meat quality of our ribeye and lamb chops were excellent. The ribeye was cooked to temperature as requested. Service was better than normal for New Zealand. Cons: Their “basting” sauce is a sweet BBQ sauce that they throughly covered both the ribeye and lamb with. It completely overwhelmed the flavor of the meat, and once it was scraped away enough to taste some of the meat flavor, there was no additional seasoning to exchange the flavor. If I were to eat here again I would request no basting sauce, salt and pepper heavily on both sides, and cook to your requested temperature. The lamb was requested as medium rare and was cooked less than my rare ribeye, but this could be a one-time issue.

All right I've been in town for 7 years now n had never gone there last night I decided to give a shot on the mix platter for 2 at 65$ good price but it was not enough food to start with. Now what I didn't like is that the food came not only cold but also burned. Apart of the lamb n the steak that were amazing quite well cook n not burned! My overall is for a 65$ dollars meal for 2 is pretty average! I don't think I'll come back there for a while.

Booking in advance for dinner is highly recommended as we had to come back in 2 hours to get a seat but was def worth the wait - there is a park by the waterfront where you can lay around and soak in the sun while waiting. We ordered a sirloin, a rib rack, and a salad share and the servings were plentiful, cooked perfectly and full of flavour. Will definitely come back! Worth noting that it is upstairs through a narrowish set of staircase, and no elevator(!) so it's not suitable for prams nor wheelchairs, but they do provide high chairs for babies - and my 12mth old absolutely loved their food 🙂
