Reviews of Tanoshi Iko
E.
Ramen is quite good. Food is nice and yummy. Price is a little bit expensive for the portion. Staff is kind. However staff totally forgot about the one order. It is very disappointing.
N.
Awesome food and very friendly staff! We had the veggie tan tan ramen which had an awesome spice to it and perfect al dente firmness of noodles and the okonomiyaki which was very light, fluffy and flavoursome!
T.
One of the best ramen in NZ . Yummy Japanese food good value for money authentic taste everything is made from scratch. Can get very busy. Friendly staff
L.
The broth for the shouyu ramen was very rich, the pork belly on top was soft, but not rough and full of flavour.
The dumplings were nice too, decent amount of fillings.
The place has very limited seats and fills up really quickly.

We have tried all the Tanoshi restaurants in Queenstown and in our opinion, Tanoshi Iko is by far the best for several reasons.
Firstly, Chef Han is a Master of his craft and all his dishes are exemplary, however, it's his Shoyu Ramen that is his standout dish and I highly recommend you add extra Pork and the Egg. I'm hoping the owner of the Tanoshi Group does read my review, as there are some inconsistencies with the restaurants and having been a Food & Beverage Director for a number of years in 5 Star hotels around the world before I became a GM, I know and appreciate the challenge of consistency in a restaurant setting, but my humble advice is to take Han around all the other Tanoshi restaurants and have him train all others on how things are done at Tanoshi Iko, as that is the Jewel in your Crown of outlets and is the benchmark the other outlets should be aiming for. Tanoshi Iko is intimate and the service from Angelina and the team is outstanding, so keep up the great work team and we look forward to dining with you again soon!
F.
Absolutely loved their food. We love Japanese cuisine and this was just perfect. Perfect amount of sauce, perfect combinations and perfect seasoning. Even the side salad was perfect! Definitely recommend it. The food service was really fast and everything was fresh. The atmosphere has a relaxing ambience to it and the staff are the sweetest they were very patient with our dietary requirements.
E.
This is a small and cute place for quick lunch or dinner. Their bento boxes are really cute, they look small but they have everything in them. I ordered katsu bento and I had tataki beef, salmon sashimi, miso soup as well in the bento. I have also been to their another shop named tanoshi teppan, I personally prefer IKO better as the range of food provided is slightly wider and they have more value.(I feel full after). Tanoshi teppan’s dishes are small and too pricey for the portion given, not recommended if you’re hungry and also on limited budget.
V.
The best Prawns dumplings I had! Fresh salmon! Amazing food! Very good chef and friendly staff!! Bagus Sekali. !!
J.
One of our favorite places in South Island! Yes, south island! I think they have a really clean tasting japanese food that they prepare fresh for every dish they serve. I got the salmon with spicy mayo, but I think the best dish is by far the tuna with their wasabi aeoli. It really compliment each other and just creates a wonderful dish. Also, they have two places just like a couple of blocks from each other. The one place that has a longer bar, you can grab things to go with more menu options. The other one, its smaller, cozier, but you only can dine in and menu options are a bit less. You can still enjoy one of the best shoyu ramen in the world in that dine in place though!
J.
Nice food busy as restaurant in a cosy corner of Queenstown
E.
🔥Authentic Japanese Restaurant!🔥
Amazing food, great portions!!! Different from the other ones which give you a lot of rice without meat! Strongly recommend!!!👏👍
R.
This cosy establishment offers great tasting ramen - we got the shoyu and miso. We also got the salmon sashimi and a bento. The ramen had a firm texture and the broth was wholesome. The rest of the food was tasty too. The sashimi was fresh but the sauce in the salad was too strong. The ambience was casual, with seating long the bar, and the service was quick and attentive. Would visit again.
L.
Food here is absolutely delicious. As someone who doesn’t often dine at Japanese restaurants (don’t eat meat, but will have prawns on occasion) I will be coming back on every Queenstown trip. We ordered the Iko’s hot ramen, veggie bento and prawn dumplings.
Ramen was perfect, the flavour balanced out very well and not too oily.
Veggie bento tofu was cooked al dente which is how I like it and the flavour as not overly sweet.
Prawn dumplings - star of the show. Whole prawns wrapped in gyoza pastry with a yummy chive-like filling.
Cute little atmosphere, similar to what you’d find in Tokyo 10/10
G.
BEST RAMEN IN QUEENSTOWN. This is my favorite comfort food in town, a warm spicy ramen, with tender pork belly and perfectly cooked noodles. Your soul will feel better after having this dish.
Also chef Winnie and FOH Koto, are amazing and complete the whole food experience.
Y.
Hidden away in a little alley, just between Devil's Burger and, Balls and Bangles. I visited it for dinner around 7 pm, and ordered their Tanoshi Bento.
Price wise, I would say that it's affordable. Ranging around $15-20 for most of their items. Ambience wise, it's quite small but cosy. They have like 12 seats inside, and like 8 seats outside.
Portion wise, I'd say they are okay. It's quite good considering the price. Taste wise, I do like the food. Although it doesn't taste as authentic as actual Japanese food, it still does alright.
Would recommend this place for singles, couples, or small groups. Though there might be a wait if it's busy.
M.
Yesssss this place is great and authentic! Some things to take advantage of: their okonomiyaki, their bowls, their pork belly, their dumplings, and probably others I didn’t try. I wouldn’t recommend the ramen for
anyone who is a serious ramen connoisseur.
The staff are friendly and it feels like you’re in Japan. The drink menu is amazing too with good options!
Definitely check this place out.
M.
Service was good. Nice n quick n polite.
Ramen was tasty but wished they had more ingredients like boiled eggs n def need more meat.. (2pcs of fried prawns n mince pork in the other bowl... not good enough)
good selection of alcoholic drinks...
Not bad not great either....
D.
Just had some of Tanoshi Iko's brand new sushi - soo good and so fresh! Great value and the homemade wasabi was just the cherry on top :) Ordered online and came within 15 minutes.
A.
Wasn't expecting much from this place, got excellent and delicious dishes at very reasonable prices. I got the bento while my wife got their ramen, I wish I got their ramen :'(
b.
Little hidden place. My mate recommended this place and definitely did not dissappoint. Even though we had lunch here, I'm considering coming back for dinner.
k.
Great little place for a meal, excellent ramen. Very calm and intimate atmosphere.
K.
Great spot for a quick bite/takeout. It took a little bit of time to get my order as the restaurant was full and there was only one chef working, but worth the wait. Pork ramen was 👍
S.
Very nice food. Good balance in flavour.
R.
Thanks to Winny the chef for making delicious Ramen, and Selvi. Especially the Tan Tan Men, YUMMEH! Super recommended!!!
F.
Good ramen although not really the best we have eaten but good enough especially on a super cold day as a bowl of hot soup is always great. Their beef tataki is also very nice and very generous. While we didn't order the gyoza, they looked very nice and way bigger than usual. The shop is however very small as there are probably about 3 tables that sits 2 each plus the bar top which probably sits another 8 only.
B.
My Japanese friend recommended this restaurant to me. It was the Best Ramen I had in New Zealand. Tan tan spicy Ramen (topping egg, pork belly) was amazing, beef tataki was delicious as well. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. I could eat there everyday for the rest of my life.
Highly recommend Tanoshi Iko !!
J.
Stumbled across Tanoshio Iko on my way to another restaurant to get takeout, It was meant to be absolutely delicious.
V.
For a small eatery this place is awesome.want for a family dinner for out final night and daughter loves the kids binto
N.
Delicious & authentic Japanese cuisine. Loved all our dishes and the presentation was spot on. Friendly and helpful staff. Would highly recommend.
J.
Ordered the mixed dumplings and was excellent with their dipping sauce. The ramen was full of flavour. The place is rather small but nice and the staff were full of smiles. 10/10 would recommend if you're keen for something warm in Queenstown.
M.
The best casual dining in town! Food is delicious, service is super friendly and welcoming, with lovely ambience and music. Highly recommended!
S.
I had the hot ramen. It was HOT. Really loved it. Perfect for the cold .. Dumplings & bento was alright. Chicken karage in the bento was blah.
B.
Wow. Where do I start. Every single dish we had, and we had a lot.. was perfection. Flavour profiles and texture was heaven. Seafood was fresh, beef seared to perfection. Every morsel every bite was delicate and intensley flavorful.
N.
Highly recommend Tanoshi Iko. Very delicious food with great service and warm atmosphere. Must try pork dumplings ( the best I have ever had ) and spicy tuna roll. Yummmm 😁
L.
Ramen was good the bento was nice! Okonomiyaki was good too.
Friendly staff.
R.
Service was good. We ordered their bentos which gave us a selection of meats (karaage chicken, salmon sashimi and beef tataki) which were very tasty. The 4 star is because of the undercooked rice. Was not expecting crunchy uncooked rice mixed with cooked rice.
B.
Perfect Japanese cuisine please, delicious meal and large servings
D.
If I had to eat only one thing for the rest of my life, it would be the salmon sushi bowl from Tanoshi Iko. 10/10 amazing
S.
My wife and I generally dine at home as we are good cooks and what we cook is to a high standard . So we are judgemental when it comes to eating out.
I could say Tanoshi was exceptionally good both in food and atmosphere with great service.
C.
Highly recommended!!
H.
This is by far the best Japanese restaurant in Queenstown. Excellent service and the food is very authentic and fresh portions are decent as well I would highly recommend this place while you are visiting Queenstown.
M.
Definitely recommend this amazing place. With hot sake and warm spicy ramen, you will feel alive (especially after skiing). On summer days, you can go with the delicious bento box which has delicious stir fried veggies and warm rice.
m.
Delicious kai, cosy, great atmosphere and service. Enjoyed watching food being cooked. Staff look like they enjoy their work, which means a lot.
R.
Shoyu Ramen was excellent. Strong broth, soft meat, good size for lunch. Will return
J.
Amazing Food. Good Prices. Very Efficient Service.
I ordered the Shouyu Ramen W/ Egg
R.
Absolutely incredible shoyu ramen with pork belly. I was the second last customer of the night and was received very warmly. The covid seating arrangements were also appropriate and very clean. But let me get to the food! Part of me expected the broth to be a bit thicker, but that's just a preference. The broth was flavoursome and you could drink the whole bowl, no problem.
BUT THE HIGHLIGHT WAS THE PORK BELLY! 3 thick slices and melted in my mouth! Great job tanoshi + Iko! So glad you now have a store that serves ramen for dinner!
If anyone has the time, visit both tanoshi and Iko. Tanoshi's teppan menu is to die for. We come back every year.
s.
Great service. Good Shouyu ramen 👍🍜
J.
Delicious place to eat. The ramen was amazing.
G.
Best ramen we've eaten anywhere, including Japan! Great atmosphere too. Staff are really lovely, friendly and hard working. Very talented chef. They also hand make their own gyoza. Very highly recommended! Thanks team.
N.
Prices didn't include egg and simple extras like bamboo shoots which is disappointing. Pork Belly in the Shoyu was dry but broth was super clean and tasty. Tan Tan men was great with a subtle spice and deeper flavour. Host was quite chilly (wasn't super interested in people coming in and eating) Overall delicious ramen and great dumplings.
T.
Best miso ramen I've ever had!! Orion on tap! ~ This place was so great! Another review mentioned the ramen was on par with Japan and I knew we had to try. We walked in and we were immediately greeted. We sat at the bar and it had a very typical Japanese ramen bar feel. It may be random, but the little things stand out, the barstools were very comfy. Anyway, I have to agree the ramen was amazing. We ordered miso and shoyu ramen, extra pork on the side, as the miso did not come with pork. And sashimi to share. It was a lovely experience. The staff were very attentive and kind. I'm still thinking about the miso ramen. I can't find anything like it back home for sure. Miss you!
M.
Had an awesome salmon sushi bowl for our staff lunch this week, delicious as always! I love the whole menu, but find it hard to go past the 'Tanoshi Bento' box - its the dumplings that get me every time!
B.
Super friendly service. Great bento box for lunch. Perfect size. Was busy but fast service.
b.
Food is good, one of the only places in Queenstown to get good ramen. Have had some issues with their closing time so four stars but have noted that they have changed to a 8:30pm closing which is more inline with my experience of not always being open much past 8pm. I look forward to returning soon.
T.
Shoyu ramen was absolutely delicious. I am a man that judges ramen based on it's pork (char siew), and the pork meat in the ramen absolutely blew me away. The pork meat and fat melted in my mouth, and it was well complemented with a tasty soup and ramen noodles. The soup however is not a thick broth, so some people may not like it as much. Service is also great and restaurant had a nice ambience to it.
Z.
One of the best ramen i have ever had! The serving size was generous, soup was bursting with flavour and best of all, the slow cooked pork was really tender, full of flavour!
D.
Nice place for lunch/dinner and drinks. Friendly staff, decent food and prices.
P.
Our family couldn’t agree on lunch - one wanted ramen one wanted sashimi and one wanted dumplings. We enjoyed the best of all three and it was by far the best of the three dishes we’ve had in New Zealand! And they have vege ramen and dumplings!!!
C.
Tiny hidden Osaka, super busy place and food was fast! Great ambiance, food and service! Friendly and fun staffs, thanks Selvi for the sake recommendation....
L.
Best ramen in Queenstown! Authentic even the chef from Osaka and funny Chilean server..
Had the pork Shoyu for only $15nzd... clean tasty broth and tender pork!
Great service too!
L.
I ordered the bento and the pork dumplings are quite salty. The staff is friendly and it’s a lovely restaurant though.
R.
Cheap Bento Box. They're also not served in a standard bento box which is a surprise. That pork gyoza is delicious by the way. I absolutely loved it. Highly recommended.
T.
Fantastic food, great little place - doesn’t take bookings so unless you get in early, be prepared to wait
N.
Great fast and friendly service. Excellent Japanese food. Will be back for sure.
l.

(Translated) For queenstown the food was good. Compared to other Japanese restaurants but only mediocre. And you do not really feel like you're in a Japanese restaurant, more like a bar.
(Original)
Für queenstown war das Essen gut. Im Vergleich zu anderen japanischen Restaurants aber nur Mittelmaß. Und man fühlt sich auch nicht wirklich wie in einem japanischen Restaurant, ehr wie in einer Bar.
S.
