Reviews of The Cow
Z.
Love Her Majesty’s Pleasure🍕 with olives and jalapeños. Best pizza I’ve had! I enjoyed the rustic ambience, like being taken back in time, complete with candle-lit tables and old photos. A must-dine in QT. It’s the oldest continuously operating in town, an icon in its own right.
They have a good selection of drinks and a few beers on tap. Staff are cheerful and friendly. Will come back again! 5 ⭐️
S.
The pizza and garlic bread is absolutely amazing! It was the perfect dinner for our first night in Queenstown! The staff are also super friendly and helpful! Highly recommend The Cow!
T.
Super cute and cozy place! The outside seats are sheltered and comfy. Pasta was delicious and the girl serving was friendly and lovely! Thanks for a nice dinner!
Z.
Really good food, service and ambiance value for money big portions also have an option to get half serving of spaghetti(normal potion is big for a single person) the only place in Queenstown where I have been 2 times in a row during my stay. Must try Spaghetti with chicken livers and Spaghetti with Mushrooms.
G.
Tucked away little spot that will easily catch your eye as you turn the corner. We didn't know what to expect when we walked in. It is cosy, warm and welcoming. A place I would definitely recommend.
The garlic bread is house made and a must have. Definitely bit off more than we could chew with the pizza size, but that means we really got our money worth in portions. Her majesty is an absolutely delicious combination.
D.
The Cow pizza is always been fantastic! This visit didn't disappoint with amazing service & food. I would highly recommend The Cow for the pizza & pasta; glass of wine with fresh baked bread...
Five Stars.
A.
I had been wanting to eat here for quite a while. Finally managed it today and it did not disappoint. The home made bread was delicious, and the pizza and pasta were perfect. It's nice to see a place that does not have a huge menu, but what they have, they do well. Will definitely be back ... next time we're in Queenstown.
P.
Great Pizza. Thin crust, lots of filling and very tasty both vegetarian and meat options. Small size was enough for one even someone with a hearty appetite. Garlic bread was a whole small loaf and also very tasty. Service was very good but they were not very busy. All in all a good feed. Other option was various spaghetti dishes. Ambience was good too. 😁😋
C.
Probably my favorite restaurant ever. Yes, ever.
I visited Queenstown with my cousin and we came here a second time instead of trying a new place. Their bread. Their soup. Their pasta. I can't even begin to describe the hug my stomach received from the food here.
B.
Nice little gem. Very authentic showing history of Queenstown. The kids eat most of my pasta and I ended with their yummy pizza.
H.
I've been visiting for 15 years and it's always delicious. This is one of the best pizzas I've eaten in many countries.
Be sure to visit.
The seafood supreme & Her Majesty Pleasure pizza are fantastic. order half and half
S.
Must eat- in place if you're in Queenstown. They have kept the architecture intact as it was years ago. We tried their home baked garlic bread which was perfectly baked and fragrance was still fresh to remember. We tried their pizza but got it customized with chicken. Yes, this place will be on top of ambience and cozy feeling if you're here in winters. (takes me to Game thrones feeling ;))
R.
Cosy place (if you're sat inside) for a dinner date, family dining, casual dining or even just lunch. It gets pretty packed quickly so get in early if you want a table or make a booking. I ordered the half portion of seafood spaghetti which wasn't that enjoyable because of the sauce but I loved my Portofino pizza. I'd certainly go back for the pizza the next time I'm in Queenstown! Friendly staff and great location.
J.
Visit this place with a half full stomach as you will be waiting 40-50minutes to be seated. Cozy place but the queue of people standing who are waiting to be seated may destroy the nice ambience, perhaps it depends on the time and the day you will be visiting. Seafood pasta was good and pizza was “a okay.”
P.
We enjoyed a nice pizza and cosy warm environment with great service crew
J.
A great place for Italian cuisine and Pub food...The seafood linguine is to die for! With the pizza must go with The Majesty's Pleasure (if you want to pleased The Crown). Could never go wrong with the two combinations! Great Service by the waitress who served us.
S.
Came back here again after almost 10 years. Great to see that the place is still here and hasn't changed much. Their pizza was amazing. I was quite excited to try their garlic bread again, remembering that it great back then. The garlic bread was big and had a garlic butter crust. However, the inside of the bread did not have garlic butter, the butter was served on the side, the butter did not have as strong of a garlic taste then expected and I was slightly disappointed with that. The staff were friendly and service was good. Overall, I would still recommend this place for the ambience, nostalgia, service and pizzas.
K.
One of the coolest atmospheres I've had the pleasure of eating in. The food was great and the staff were also very friendly. Has a proper rustic feel to it, almost like you're eating in a very posh barn. Meals were a little bit on the pricey side but were great none the less.
M.
Amazing vibe in this historic stone building. The atmosphere is perfect and the pasta is even more so. The pizza is the best in the area but not quite enough sauce for my taste. Zero flop which was great! Service was excellent and I would gladly go back!
P.
Good food. Great service.
In terms of pizza and pasta, it does not disappoint. Plus, the cosy atmosphere makes it a place to eat in Queenstown.
On the downside, you can’t book. And you have to wait for a table on-premise where there is not a lot of room. Fine when there is only two of you. Not great for a family of 5. This time we only had two of us. So it was fine. And they get five stars.
f.
Decent pizza, but not quite at the standard implied by the reputation of this place. Service is generally good, but wait times can be quite long. It’s a very cosy place, but annoyingly they require everyone to wait for tables in the restaurant, which just makes a cosy place become overly cramped. I would prefer that they just take people’s number down and send a sms when their table is ready.
K.
Homie, comfy and magical!
There is nothing better than to have a little fire warm you up in a cold rainy day. Came here twice, service is outstanding! Environment was set up right. Had pizza with beer the first time and pasta the second time. Big portion of food. Highly recommend the pasta, it’s fresh topping with delicious sources.
Been to other places in Queenstown but this is the favourite restaurant in town!
B.
First first in 20 years, great to see an original of Queenstown still going. Friendly service, good food, best in a group at night and atmospheric in winter. Had half vegetarian and half pepperoni.
O.
The cow is one of those restaurants that don't disappoint you. The cozy atmosphere inside this old restaurant, the nice tables outside (in summer), the staff and the delicious food. They have a short menu based in pizza and pasta, but certainly the best pizzas in town. Made with delicious natural ingredients and perfectly cooked. They also have good wine. One of those you can't miss!
C.
After telling someone we had been here the night before they told us the place had been here for over 40 years!! I can see why, the menu is simple.and setting is unique but laid back and I love it. Food came out quickly and the service was on point. I'd definitely go back to this place next time I'm in Queenstown.
H.
Amazingly delicious pizza, pasta, and soup. Authentic Italian food. Had seafood supreme and Her Majesty’s Pleasure, both were so flavorful and generous with the ingredients. Cheese was amazing. The pasta was so fresh and creamy. The ambience is cosy with a nice fireplace to warm up the restaurant. The restaurant can be quite hidden off from the streets, but is definitely worth the walk. The servers were very friendly as well.
M.
Absolutely fabulous!
One of those hidden gems we try to find...
A.
The cow is a definite must do in Queenstown. Hidden away in a quiet alley. The ambience is cozy and warm with the open fire place and the food delicious. We stop in every time we are in town. Definitely give the garlic bread a go!
N.
Cosy restaurant with delicious pizza and pasta. The Cow is always one of our favourite go-to places!
J.
My top place in Queenstown for pizza. The place is super cozy, super warm in winter and has great food option. Go for the seafood pizza!! my favourite and it is so delicious. It is always busy but worth the wait.
D.
So happy I stumbled across this wonderful place for dinner. Our server was as delightful as the food.
M.
Delicious pizza, high quality ingredients. Amazing serving sizes & lovely staff.
N.
Beautiful, delicious and tasty food. Friendly staff, quick service. Best pizza I have ever had. Would recommend to anyone visiting Queenstown. I have enjoyed every meal even though I got a nasty splinter off the table last time.
R.
The atmosphere is like that of an old style Irish pub; a few booths, one long table and a tiny bar with a cosy fire thats insulated by a gorgeous fireplace. The architecture is a mood unto itself. All that's missing is some Jonty jig music or a haggered regular playing songs on an Irish tin whistle while a bar wench sings heart melting songs about love and heartbreak.
But they choose to play hip hop and top of the pops/charts music instead ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The menu consists of spaghetti bowls and pizzas (with a sprinkle of desserts and appatisers) I appreciate a place that keeps a small menu as it stops a lot of Umm'ing and Urr'ing when it comes to deciding what to have for dinner.
I went with a group, all of us were craving a bowl of Italian deliciousness, so I won't speak for the pizza menu (- although the one I spied on the table across for it looked pretty amazing)
I ordered the recommended Garlic Bread and the Di Pollo. The bread arrived as an entire loaf with plain butter on the side covered in parsley. While the presentation of the dish is Divine, simply covering the loaf of bread with garlic and parcley dosent flavour the dough inside - Calling this dish "Garlic Bread" is sacrilege to actual garlic bread and should be renamed to "Garlic ON bread". The dish comes across as pretty, but lazy. With a few tweaks, this could be a banger of an entree.
As for the Spaghetti - I like that the dish that was postured as having heat actually came with some real heat! The portion was a good size, but the chef deffinetly skipped out on the marketed ingredients, as I barely found any bacon or chicken in the sause. The portioning of Spaghetti to sauce was just right, but it would of been nice to experience the chicken and bacon too.
Over all the experience was ...fine. I didn't mind it. I liked the atmosphere, even if the music didn't suit it, and the food was filling, but a little bit "meh".
N.
Delicious pizza and the warmest coziest atmosphere in town!
Everyone is so friendly, we had conversations with at least 3 different groups of people. It was a really warm welcome to Queenstown.
E.
Wow what an awesome place. As you enter the warmth, smells and music is sensory overload. Not in a bad way but in a way that you don’t need to taste the food to know the experience is already what you want. I’ll update once the food comes out but if you don’t come here for the above while in Queenstown you’re missing out.
a.
One of the best pizza I've ever had. 👍
n.
Great food! We were very full after the pizza and pasta we shared! It was a very busy night and they accommodated for us even when we had no booking! Bloody outstanding place
A.
Have been here a few times and generally pretty good, pizzas can be a bit salty sometimes. Can be a bit of a wait, but if it's busy then sit outside in the alleyway as the heaters keep you warm. Great 80s soundtrack! Cosy inside and better for small groups
K.
A hidden gem and so worth the hunt. Great pizza and Italian place. Warm and cozy too.
A.
This was recommended by someone other than Reese Witherspoon. I wanted to be furious at celery on a pizza, but it works. The garlic bread is epic. Just wonderful. I have been wandering around Queenstown uncomfortably full and wonderfully sated.
P.
Great atmosphere but $9 for a soggy, single-serve side salad?
A.
I have to say, their pizzas are Uh-Mah-Zing!! Definitely worth to try. Plus, the decorations of the restaurant is very Instagrammable. Cute wooden furnitures, bring you to the classic cabin atmosphere.
B.
One of our most enjoyable places to eat in Queenstown. Came back here twice as the pasta dishes were unbelievable !
The place itself feels like you're in a 1800s stone barn with a cosy fireplace. Recommend!
N.
Amazing pizzas, best my partner and I had in Queenstown! We were blown away by the generosity of the toppings. The bolognese was our favourite by far, would definitely recommend it to anyone! Great cozy atmosphere with a roaring fire. We'll definitely be returning when we visit Queenstown again 😊
p.
The pasta was good specially the chicken liver, but the pizza....just go to Domino's
S.
Famous for their garlic bread and pizzas, very friendly staff. Place you must visit when in Queenstown
D.
We were looking for a pizza place and stumbled across this restaurant. Great pizzas
J.
Nice, but being slightly too busy means some pressure to move on quickly after eating. Decent food, but certainly you are paying more due to high demand... & the cosy authentic European ski resort restaurant feel of it all.
Reservations only possible for owners' friends / anyone important.
N.
Excellent dining experience. Great pizzas and I enjoyed the unique Garlic bread.
M.
Amazingly delicious eatery in a lovely, historic pub. Super nice to sit fireside with my companion and soak up the candle lit vibes with crispy pizza, pasta and local wine. Salad was fresh and the place is super clean. Excited to go back and enjoy again!
Favorite is the seafood pasta!
A.
For some reason, it feels like a must go to place for me in Queenstown, but I don’t find the pizza to be that nice anymore.
D.
Nice quiet place with awesome pizza and garlic bread.
D.
Pre good, nice food, will go again👍
R.
The garlic bread was seriously good. Fresh out of the oven. As a German it's nice to find good bread away from home.
T.
Great food with great ambience, will be coming back!
C.
Such an amazing environment!!! Amaziiiing decoration, feels like the real Italy and the food also corresponds to the place. Delicious home made garlic bread, the best I ever had, and great pasta!
G.
Good Food. Very nice customer service.
A.
Definitely worth the wait! A place I always visit when I come to Queenstown. The nicest garlic bread and the service from the 2 young ladies is outstanding! Fantastic atmosphere and setting.
D.
Very cozy restaurant, nice warm fireplace, comfortable atmosphere. The pizza was good, and came with more toppings than advertised, which for us was fine; if you had an allergy to a surprise topping (Celery?!) it might not be great.
Their payment system was down when we were finished, so we had to wait for three hard resets before we could pay and leave. Hopefully this was a fluke rather than a regular issue.
K.
Great atmosphere, great food, great service, went with family, family friendly.
S.
Loved the food and Garlic bread was awesome for $10 .. and mulled wine 🍷
A.
Bit of nostalgia for us. Awesome rustic charm and excellent crispy based pizzas. Cosy and friendly. Go early for dinner if you don't want to wait for a table. Good for kids. Our favorite was the vegetarian pizza which had a nice freshness to it.
A.
Enjoyed the food very much and the warmth of the place. However the quality of the service was pretty basic. I don't know if it is because we were last to arrive, without a booking or if it is just how casual this restaurant is.
-
Garlic bread amazing. You get a full loaf of bread.
Pizzas quite tasty too.
D.
Great pizza in a cozy old timber milking shed. Limited seating so be prepared to wait- we had a drink at the bar while we awaited seats, though only waited around 15 minutes.
Simple menu which is reportedly unchanged since opening, pizza bases are quite crusty but great toppings. Highly recommended restaurant while you are in Queenstown.
H.
Best pizza in Queenstown and very nice atmosphere.
K.
Excellent pizza. Husband and I don't have big appetites but ordered a large Portofino (bacon, mushrooms and prawns, delicious) thinking we'd take home the leftovers. There were none. Definitely would come back or get a takeout. Only marked down because of temporary kitchen problem that limited the wine selection and spaghetti dishes not available. Liked the selection of local beers.
T.
Super yummy and nice atmosphere. Great experience!
C.
Nice pizza :) pasta toooo sour
T.
Pizza n pasta was very good, staff kept adding wood to fire place and converted the place into a Sauna, we were charged public holiday tax, which okay was never mentioned on menu or verbally, just came up on bill...its okay but for a fare practise must be told...wouldn't go again 🙄🙄
C.
Wonderful staff and TREMENDOUS food. This little place has the most perfect atmosphere too. We had a ball
Z.
Amazing pizza, and great service! Went there after a long day to order take away, and they had our pizza and garlic bread ready in less than 14mins. The food was delicious, and priced comparably to other pizza around town. I'm sure their other items on the menu were delicious too cause it was busy! Highly recommend it!
H.
Meals were good, cozy athmosphere, fair prices. Staffs were not very friendly at all, the starters came all together with the meals, even that we asked it to come first. We had the feeling that everything was being serverd too quickly so we could leave soon. Nothing special about it that would made us come back.
K.
Very cosy bar / restaurant. Excellent Pizzas!
K.
It was a cozy spot. Dark and wooden. I liked that it is small enough that people get seated together. Meet another tourist from somewhere else and make a new friend.
Decent choice of drinks. Reasonable prices.
I did not like the pizza. But I am not a pizza aficionado. It was too bready, hard and crunchy on the bottom.
But still worth going. Even for drinks in the evening. It was much more authentic than most spots in Queenstown.
H.
Went in yesterday for a late lunch, we were the only people there. The waitress seemed very put out we were there. Had to go in to order and she rolled her eyes getting up to take it. Shared a large pizza and a bottle of wine, both reasonably priced, but the service was sort of nonexistent and cold when we had to interact. Pity because the pizza was delicious.
A.
Some of the best pizza I have ever eaten - and I have eaten a fair share of pizza around the world. The crust was just right - not too thick or too thin, and not too soft and had a good crispness to it, but was not overdone. The sauce, cheese and toppings, along with the crust were very tasty. I would recommend this restaurant to others and will revisit when I am ever in Queenstown.
P.
Not as great as expected.
With kinda only two things on the menu we expected better quality ingredients like home made pasta ...
Z.
My wife and I took a 2 week vacation in NZ a few years ago when we were living in Brisbane, Australia. My wife’s son and daughter from the USA joined us on our adventure. We started with a 5 day hotel stay in Queenstown after we flew in from Christchurch in mid January. We did a bunch of neat things like a Milford Sound Cruise, a helicopter joy ride to the top of Fox Glacier and much more but having dinner at The Cow was the highlight of our NZ dine out experiences. We headed here one evening after reading about the place in our hotel room info guide. It was fun to find the restaurant in a quaint little lane off the beaten track. Straight off the bat we fronted up at the bar and ordered a couple of beers + a wine. It sure was a sight taking in the eclectic decor but that made it even more fun. We all ended up at a booth table and perused the select pizza menu…we’re big pizza fans ! We kicked things off with a serve of Garlic Bread plus a couple of 11 inch pizzas loaded up with great ingredients. The thinking was if we ordered the smaller pizzas we could have more varieties. Our pizza order came out pretty fast and the pizzas disappeared quite quickly. Another order for 2 more 11 inch pizzas because we were hungry. We were very happy with our pizzas, the beer was decent and the service excellent. Factor in the fun vibe & quirky decor and we loved it a lot !
N.
Used to be good. But there was simply no way to cut through the pizza base. The seafood pizza was thousand island dressing with flavourless seafood. The spaghetti and chicken livers were good though otherwise it would have been 2 stars, but if pizza is what you're after then it's simply not what it was.
H.
Amazing building and atmosphere, good pizza and friendly staff. Background music a bit loud, but Im old so most people wouldn't mind.
Recommended
R.
Brilliant pizzas, cosy and warm surroundings and excellent service.
R.
Very personal, small restaurant with a lot of character. They've got some great spaghetti and some darn good pizza. Good wine selection available and friendly staff. The atmosphere they set is awesome, from the fireplace to the copper pot collection and the brickwork. Sit down, enjoy a glass of wine, and a heaping bowl of pasta!
A.
Very nice place, staff OK although not very smiling or helpful. A bit expensive but worth it as the good is so good!
Not too much waiting time, at least when we were here because it wasn't full. A bit dark inside but it's not too bad.
I'd recommend if you want some nice and big pizza!
C.
Average at best. The pizza was tasty but we had to get all our own cutlery and plates and the service was average. Pub-style bars and restaurants are usually pretty warm and cozy but The Cow lacks any sense of homeliness.
A.
Cozy atmosphere. Great for pizza and wine on a cold day. Staff were attentive and thoughtful. As a heads up, the garlic bread is a huge loaf. It could be it's own tasty meal.
S.
Had to wait a few minutes for a table but boy was it worth it. The pizzas are huge (we shared one between two of us). We still ended up taking a couple of slices home. Very tasty food. Would happily go back for more if I'm ever in Queenstown again. Had a good chat with the guy on the bar too, he did a great job.
O.
Very cozy little place, beautiful pizza . Would recommend
R.
Great pizza, and pasta was perfect. Definitely recommend. Staff are rely friendly as well.
M.
Great atmosphere great pizzas
L.
I have been living in and travelling around New Zealand for 3 years and this is the best food I have had! I had the seafood spaghetti and my fiancé had a pizza. Both amazing! Will be back!
M.
Best pizza in ages! Rarely expect to describe a pizza as juicy and succulent as well as going BOOM! in the flavour department but finally, I have found it. Matched with a glass of chianti, an open fire and fast friendly service I love this place.
E.
Disappointing reservation system. Food was good. The restaurant does not allow reservations, instead having to put a name down at the door. However despite putting our name down in person they also requested that we stay physically in the restaurant until our name was called. The bar area even when empty has space for about 4 people and our group was 6. When asked if we could go next door for a drink while waiting they said we would lose our table. Not recommended for large groups.
S.
pizza was 10/10. crust was nice and crunchy - as it should be! dont want to be eating soggy crust.
service was nice and friendly, forgot to bring us table water though, but thats ok i had a beer anyway.
the setting and history of the establishment is cool and interesting! it was very good, we enjoyed our lunch here.
sucks that such a nice place is a bit hidden away in a side laneway but if you find yourself here, definitely go inside!
T.
You won't find a better pizza restaurant and bar with great hospitality like you do here at The Cow. We've been a few times now and the food is always fantastic, they catered to my child's allergy's, and the prices are very reasonable. The cozy atmosphere means that you get to meet others at the same table too which is very cool, a great way to meet other like-minded travelers. Thanks team!
F.
Super cosy cute spot! Pro tip, no one was there at 9:45pm on a Thursday night. Early it is pumping, but also adds to the atmo!
J.
This was the CUTEST place to have dinner. It’s small, cosy and very warm inside. We had to wait 20mins for a table but didn’t mind as we sat by the fire. The pizza and pasta selection is great and the dishes are well cooked, lots of flavour and a good serving size. The waitresses were very busy but very attentive and friendly. Loved the music playing and the atmosphere of the place. Would definitely come again!
D.
We went for a walk and stumbled upon this place which was tucked away. We ordered 'Her Majesty's Pleasure' Pizza and the Spaghetti Bolognese. One of the best pizzas we've ever had and the bolognese was so delicious as well. Awesome set up and ambiance. Loved this place! Looking forward until the next time we're back in Queenstown so we can eat here again.
L.
The pizza was amazing! Interestingly named, HER MAJESTY PLEASURE, such pizzas definitely drew my attention. I was not wrong to order it. The toppings were generous, the cheese molten, and the pizza crusts crisp!
A.
Great food & friendly service. The pizza's we had were absolutely delicious! ...though we did have to wait an hour to be seated - so be sure to keep this in mind. In my opinion, the food was worth the wait, though.
K.
The place is great. Try the majestic (something) pizza, it's wonderful, the service is a bit awry and scarce. But it's a great experience, they are innovative cause they tell you to share tables when it's busy. I think while it's a great idea, it's eventually a rather unpleasant experience for couples seeking isolation. I wouldn't make my wife sit with a couple of strangers. Anyways that's just me, the pizza deserves accolades and so does the garlic bread. Keep it up fellows.
D.
Going again tonight. Very cosy, rustic and original. Venison pepperoni pizza is to die for. Local wines are outstanding. No booking - so be prepared to share a table and meet someone new.
L.
Came here for dinner with a group or 3 adults and 1 infant and we were able to get seated without an issue. We ordered the Napolatana with mushrooms, Her Majesty's Pleasure, and Seafood spaghetti. I thought all the dishes were good, but not one particular one stood out. The crust for the pizza is thin crust, which is what I prefer. They did not hold back on the toppings and with every bite you were able to eat some toppings. The sauce wasn't overly salty but also didn't fe like it had a strong tomato base. The sauce wasn't overly special. The seafood spaghetti wasn't bad. All the shelled seafood came de-shelled, which was nice, but could also imply other things. Th staff were super polite and helpful. They were very accommodating to our requests for extra napkins, plates, utensils.
Overall this is a solid place and wouldn't mind coming here again. Service was great. Price is on the expensive side, just like all the other restaurants in this resort town.
R.
Located in the tiny Cow lane, this place is a Hidden Gem. Make your reservations in advance as waiting times are long.
It has an excellent old ambiance with a fireplace, where people can wait and warm themselves up.
We enjoyed some excellent Vegetarian Pizza and Australian Lemonade. The crisp pizzas here are just yum!
Just felt that they should have chopped the olive toppings instead of putting the seeded olives in completely. So, just be wary about that.
Overall, a wonderful place to enjoy a meal with a beautiful rustic ambiance and delicious food!
D.
Delicious food and incredible atmosphere, a small wait as we came at a busy time, but the staff are incredible and very accommodating
J.
Amazing food, wine and service.
The food is definitely a little quirky, but so darn tasty you will struggle to not eat the whole thing! The pizza base is light and beautifully cooked, and their 'famous' garlic bread is a must.
S.
Great location. Such a cosy/warm environment. you dine with others. so if that style isn't for you I wouldn't recommend it, but we got seated with two other people who we ended up talking to for about two hours. the meal was great and the price was very reasonable. we did have to wait for a seat for 25 minutes, but it was worth it as we weren't in a rush. overall the staff were reasonable to deal with. I would go back for sure
j.
Shared a spaghetti and pizza. If the pizza was as good as the pasta it would be a 5 start review. Staff are super friendly.
Be prepared to wait for a table however and be warned tables are shared so you may sit with strangers which we did however they were lovely and now we have new friends
K.
This place is hilarious, and memorable. An old dairy repurposed into a pizza place. I got the bolognese pie. Whoever thought of putting bolognese sauce on a pizza is a genius. Atmosphere is completely unique, but I’m really glad I got there for an early dinner. I could see it getting really busy and a bit claustrophobic during peak hours.
s.
This place has always been our go to place in Queenstown. However, the quality had dropped year by year. We had seafood pasta and her majestic's pleasure pizza today. The fish was not fresh and the prawn so small. Greatly disappointed.
- previous review
Awesome pizzas and pastas, this place used to be a milking station, restaurant renovated from a stable great place to have a meal or drink. Outdoor seating available and can see gondola from there.
T.
The inside is super cozy and has a really cool setting. Food was alright. Shame about the american country music blaring tho. Doesn't work with the setting.

Very cosy, old pub style with a open fire and big seating booths. The menu options are spaghetti (no other pasta options) or pizza. Serving sizes are very large. Ordered the garlic bread to start which came out as a whole bread loaf with thick dough goodness inside and garlic paste. For main we shared the seafood pasta which was creamy with mixed seafood. Staff were very friendly and attentive always making sure we had water and were happy with everything.
G.
Really tasty food served in a cosy atmosphere. Nice selection of beers and you can bring your own wine if you pay a cork fee of $10. Staff were OK, could have been a bit friendlier, one waitress seemed to hate the idea of working with the look on her face all evening! But understand they were busy
n.
Just a few lines to thank you so much for both the wonderful meals we had at your restaurant
“ The Cow “
Extremely high standard of cuisine, coupled with great restaurant atmosphere. Very courteous/happy staff. A real pleasure. All family & friends very impressed. I will definitely return!!!
Special thanks to the Josie & Christine 🍻( Josie - Thanks to your lovely hospitality )
J.
Food, ambience and service were great. We had an enjoyable time! The only reason I am giving this restaurant 4 stars is that groups of 2 are expected to share tables with other parties of 2 if they want to sit inside. Admittedly, this does get in the way of those wanting a more private dining experience.
C.
Restaurants was very cosy and the heritage of building it was well preserved. Owner did a tour for us around the place to show us things he preserved. We had a vegetarian pizza which was great and quite filling it literally had all veggies they had.
J.
The Cow Restaurant has beautifully made fresh food that serves pizza and soups and bread. It tastes amazing and looks phenomenal too with the candles every step. Overall it is a great place to bring your family of all ages.
F.
Great pizza and garlic bread 🍞
J.
Good food but had to wait 30mins for a table. Cosy area and manageress needs to put a smile on her face. Don't try the potatoes and leek soup. It me drowned in pepper. Pizzas were tasty.
B.
Best seafood spaghetti (entre) followed by Her Majesty (the Cow) pizza with added olives and anchovies was fabulous. Plus we could bring our own bottle of wine, yay! ($10 corkage per bottle). Service outstanding.
S.
The place is tucked away, small and dark. Menu was pretty small but the food was delicious. Ordered Her Majesties Pleasure, Bolognese Pasta and Garlic bread. Definitely recommend.
G.
Cows pizza are really good.. l should come back here... once tasted always wanted
a.
Pizza here is superb and mouth melting.... We were looking for a place for lunch and happened to see this place we went inside ....the ambience was that of a cowboy style restaurant which was very good....
We Also ordered a freshly made garlic loaf and enjoyed it..
They also had veg options for vegetarians like me.
Overall had a good experience..
J.
Fantastic restaurant. The pizza is great and they have a good selection of wine. However it is a small place and it is always full. You will have to wait for a table and when you get you will may have to share with some strangers.
So get there early.
J.
Great food but can be a bit of a wait due to the no reservations policy. The garlic loaf is just divine, pizza and pasta also top notch. Great atmosphere with a big open fire, much needed in the middle of winter.
P.
Went here with my parents on our last night in Queenstown. Really unique little spot. Serve pasta dishes as regular or half dishes. They have only a few menu items but they do them all extremely well.
H.
Great place for delish pizzas that are generously topped, and spaghetti with different toppings too.
Full of charm like an old English pub it’s a great atmosphere.
Monteiths beer and good local wines available too.
S.
Great spot hidden away in cow lane. Food was very tasty, good sized portions. Garlic bread is a must do however a bit big for just two people. If you have 4 you will enjoy the whole loaf. Small menu making it easier to choose. A must see when visiting Queenstown.
M.
The best pizza 😍. Get the seafood! Would give 5 stars if werent asked to vacate our table shortly after being seated, after a wait at the bar buying plenty of drinks, because one of our party hadnt arrived yet. We werent about to give up our table though and ordered anyway without the person who arrived shortly after. Waiter was quite pushy to get new punters onto our table. No bookings can be made you see.
N.
Enough pictures to go through to pick your lovely meal! We got both seafood spaghetti and and seafood supreme pizza, both delightfully flavored. Seafood spaghetti was creamy and light while the pizza was crispy, cheesy good and was yummy with the Kaitaia hot sauce there. I added it to everything. We've been dreaming about the pizza and taking about it while traveling through NZ. Hope to eat there again one day! (note: also one located in Wanaka)
L.
The garlic bread is amazing. You won't regret it. Cosy and warm with an old school fireplace, staff are friendly and accommodating
J.
I got the cheesy mushroom pasta and garlic bread. I can hands down say this was some of the best pasta of my life. Another person at dinner also got the same pasta and we raved about it all week. The garlic bread is also awesome!
s.
Probably the best Italian food i have ever had here.
The interiors of the restaurant are cozy and give you a feel of an antique italian restaurant somewhere in Italy/Rome ( which I loved by the way).
Do not by anychance miss to have the wild mushroom spaghetti and the Garlic bread over here!!!
F.
After a long time in NZ, this place had THE MOST AMAZING GARLIC BREAD EVER. The pepperoni pizza was also amazing... But you cannot leave without having the garlic bread!
H.
Beautiful cozy shack, a must-do on every trip to Queenstown. Authentic pizza and pizza with beverages when you want them. The staff are great, but the shack feels cozy and warm (when you can get a seat, we came on rugby night) Also, very centrally located. (The Cow is actually the centre of Queenstown) Only downside is limited seating for such a tourist-filled town.
A.
Great food. Great place. We ordered pizza spaghetti and garlic bread all was great. Jest fear notice the place is quite full so they put few people on each table
C.
Lovely little place with nice Italian food. They operate a shared table service inside which cuts down on wait times. Friendly start and good location
S.
I was told it's the best pizza in town. It is good, but wouldn't say it's the best though. Definitely a go to place if you are looking for a cosy place for lunch or dinner.
W.
A great place for pizza and pasta, with a cozy atmosphere located off the main streets. We got the bolognese pasta and the pizza called (IIRC) 'Her Majesty's Pleasure'. Highly recommend when in Queenstown!
P.
Great atmosphere, pizza, garlic bread and service. Love the open fire.
C.
Nice feel to the place (a bit French Alps) and great pizza. If you happen to be by yourself it is strongly recommended as you will end up sharing a table with people, and 99% of the time it has worked out really well, for me at least!!
C.
September 2017
nice pizza
well cow is good, but they should start to accept reservations, been twice last week there and could not get a table, 1-130 wait is too much when you have a kid. so than makes hard to you comeback :(
B.
How can you beat this place for pizza.., our top 2 favorites are forever consistent, the Seaford with Blue Cod and Her Majesty's Pleasure - devine as always!
R.
Being going to The Cow for over 40 years. The quality of food and staff is as great as ever. No trip to Queenstown is complete without a meal at the Cow
J.
Very unique looking place! As soon as you step into the restaurant you can smell the wood-burning fireplace. So cosy and warm. Very good food and service. Recommend!
C.
One of the greatest hidden gems in nz. No frills, beer, pizza, pasta and garlic bread. Dont go if you want fine dining service and food. Go if you want to chill over some shared beers food and good times.
C.
I came here because I didn’t want to stand in the cold and munch on a Fergburger like a tourist sheep.
It was fine. The pizza crust was dense and hard, but without any nice crispness - kind of homemade, but in a bad, frozen-from-a-box way. Not what pizza dreams are made of. But fine.
This mediocrity is what Queenstown is all about though.
Whether its patrons are Jucy van-driving backpackers, bogans in jet boats, or Australian consultants who flew here on points, Queenstown is so popular that it doesn’t have to try. Neither does The Cow.
M.
Great pizza and custom service with cosy atmosphere.
K.
The absolute best gluten free pizzas! Staff are friendly. The place was flat out so they forgot a couple of small requests but overall a good experience. Would definitely recommend it.
A.
As cozy as I remembered it from living in Queenstown, very pleasant staff and pizza topping but the base was definitely not how I remembered it. I'm sure it was just the chef's night off but it was hard and 'bready' rather than thin, airy and crisp.
C.
Love the pizza + pasta combo!
T.
This is a very cozy place with wonderful and unique pizza. The giant loaf of garlic bread and butter will blow apart every diet you've ever been on, cumulatively and coterminously. The fireplace is super-cozy; the only thing that's missing is a bearskin rug and a classic Ron Jeremy video.
R.
Iconic Qt restaurant...Cool, relaxed, excellent pizza, pasta salad
Love this place, Every time.
Busy..doesn't take reservations..cool
I.
Best gluten free pizza in Queenstown!
E.
Certainly a unique pub with an edgy vibe. Prepare to sit next to other people if you're dining alone or in a couple.
That said, the food is nothing better than average and this is another Queenstown tourist trap.
J.
Pizza's were amazing, so were the cocktails. Very attentive and friendly staff also.
The restaurant had great character
P.
This restaurant is exceptional. The atmosphere is so cool and the Pizza's are delicious! Pretty well-priced too
m.
BEST PIZZA EVER!! My fav are the Garlic Bread and Seafood Pizza!! Very best!
Cozy place. Better come at lunch, not so crowded.
B.
Best Pizzas in town.
Great fire.
Great staff
Great ambience
Have been going for about 40 years still great
H.
Great food and great atmosphere! Always a wait however, but it's worth it. Often seated with strangers, but it's all part of the experience! Service is exceptional for such a busy little place!
D.
Tucked in a quite lane, this is a great place to have a quick bite. The owner is friendly and welcoming.
They have one veg pizza for vegetarians, but is very tasty and amazing.
a.
We took the chicken liver pasta and it was absolutely delicious! The place is a bit crowded but very rustic and warm!
Loved it!
D.
Awesome pizza, fascinating setting (all candle lit and wood) great all round. Entrance In Cow Lane (which is not on the main shopping/restaurant street but runs behind it) but well worth the adventure of finding it.
C.
Simple menu makes for great food on my opinion. Service was polite and meals.came out quickly. I'd return to have this again any day.
R.
A fantastic place to eat with friends and family! Great food and service! It's the best drinking mulled wine next to the fire while it's freezing outside!
A.
Pizza is great, it's atmospheric and love the music. Hot though on a hot summer night
O.
Love the garlic bread and pizza here! Such a cosy wee restaurant. Definitely a go to if visiting queenstown
D.
Awesome food. Pizzas and pasta is tasty but the service could be better. Hardly waiting area and a bit too squashy.
M.
Superb as always
A.
Great fast food and family friendly. You will have to wait to be seated and be prepared to share a table with others. An iconic place in Queenstown.
I.
Cosy and warm, we really enjoyed the atmosphere. Tried some spaghetti and pizza, was really happy with both. Fills up quickly later in the evening.
S.
Great atmosphere. Great food
B.
World class! Everything on the menu is delicious. Cozy, warm and owners often there. Great dining. Really enjoy it every time.
S.
The pizzas are to die for!! We got the pepperoni. So happy we found this hidden Queenstown gem. Exceptional service and great friendly staff.
K.
Have been dinning at the Cow Qt since the late 80's and last night under difficult level 2 trading rules you guys served up one of the Best Pizza's (half her majesties half seafood) I've have in a long time well done I'll be back!
K.
Interior was OK....food menu have only pizza and spaghti... Both were quit expensive
.I can get same food from other places like domino's , fatbadger at half price..and much better taste than cow.. 37dollar for large pizza which was actually same size as small pizza at other places.....overall average place
J.
Excellent atmosphere, delicious food. The garlic bread is a must try! Great customer service and feel inside.
Highly Recommended!
O.
Yuuuuuuuuuuum! Such great Italian, simple yet delicious.
B.
Best garlic bread I ever had.
j.
Lived it. Delicious pizza and unique garlic bread. Cool atmosphere too.
B.
During our stay in winter 2013 we regularly had meal here. Very simple menu and amazing food. Great service. We'll definitely go back.
J.
Great pizza and pasta. Vegetarian pizza had a good mix of vegetables including pumpkin and capsicum on a thin but slightly risen base.
M.
Super cute, incredible service, and the best pizza I had in NZ (admittedly, I didn't have THAT much pizza). Highly recommended if you want Italian.
B.
This place has the best pasta I've ever had. There pizza is also amazing. Make sure to get the garlic bread!
m.
Cosy little place with beautiful food. The garlic loaf is a standout as a side to your pizza. Great in winter with the fire and back alley vibe
L.
Great pizza. My husband was disappointed there wasn’t a meat lovers on the menu.
I was happy though.
C.
Great atmosphere and good pizza.
M.
Great place for NZ style pizza. The place is small, so the wait can be long. Well worth it though.
J.
Nice and cosy on a cold damp night. 5th time in over the last few years and still Good service and a good meal with a few drinks. Will be back
t.
Best pizza and pasta👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
R.
Cozy cabin vibe, felt like I went to simpler time. Grandpa's homecook style spaghetti bolognaise and generous amount of toppings on the pan pizza.
l.
nice warm stone house, great pizza. If you are not in hurry (average 1 hr waiting time), then you should go there.
N.
Must visit. Special cosy restaurant with amazing spaghetti, pizza and delicious garlic bread 🥖
Friendly staff 😊
B.
Small hole in the wall type restaurant. Blink and you will miss it. Was fantastic. We missed the dinner rush, so it was cozy. Pizza was to die for.
S.
Got a takeaway pizza. Pizza wasn't bad, but very pricey for the size. $25 for a thin crust pizza that is smaller in comparison to domino's or pizza hut. And there was not a lot of toppings either.
D.
Really nice vibe inside, tasty food.
M.
We had the spaghetti with mushroom sauce and the spaghetti with seafood sauce - both were amazing! Cool ambience, and the service was friendly and helpful, too.
j.
Delicious food definitely reccomend generous sized meals too.
P.

M.
Music, food and atmosphere!! This place is 5 star for them all. You can't book and might have to wait 30mins but it's worth the wait!
P.

J.
Great mushroom spagetti
