Wow ! I haven’t stopped here for 20 years ! Because it still looks the old worn out cafe from the road…. Then as a friend pulled over & I followed….. what a superb food layout indoors. Seal of approval with the awesome eatables. Great pies. BUT maybe to start by giving the building a clean fresh welcoming Càfe paint job on the outside would entice traffic to stop and explore within. I’m guessing most would not even know it’s there…

Friendly staff and good food. The only issue I have is why we have to go one in, one out. A few times I've decided the wait isn't worth it and gone somewhere else for my coffee. It's a shame because you're missing out on business.

Mixed review, Pepper meat pie was fantastic and counter service was great. Not so great, the sandwich was a bit dry and on a beautiful day you like to sit outside and the tables were absolutely awful, we didn't want to sit there but there was no where else, they definitely could do with cleaning, even my husband commented, it doesn't take much, soapy water and a cloth, what a difference it would make. 2.5 stars

Stopped here on our way to Christchurch, expecting to buy a sandwich or a pie. Ended up buying some fried chicken, made in store! The chicken was delicious although the dining area and food service area could have been a bit cleaner.

Always a hit or miss. Have had to take my coffees back in because they weren't flat whites and they were only half full. Have had to biff a few things that I've ordered to go. Buuuut they do amazing burgers!!!! I'll see if I have a photo somewhere! They were tasty and I'd definitely buy them again. They were super busy on Easter weekend when I was in last so obviously the service wasn't great and they kept forgetting things for my order so I had to hover at the counter next to the long line of people awkwardly who kept thinking I was pushing in.

We dropped by here for a feed. Yummy food. Just needs a bit more beautification. Make sure you eat inside as lots of sandfly outside haha

Stopped in for a hot drink & a bite to eat. Excellent service, lots of food options. Had a hot chocolate & bacon & egg muffin. Hot chocolate was yum. Great flavour & temperature. Bacon and egg muffin was pre-made then heated. It was very yummy too. What we had was definitely good.

To be honest, we weren't expecting much - but this is a classic case of 'don't judge a book by it's cover'. The teenagers gave their burgers top marks, and my rib eye was perfect. Honestly, $68 for three meals and drinks was exceptional value, especially considering how tasty it was. The service was fantastic, too. Seeing a weka in the carpark as we were leaving was a lovely added bonus!

The bathroom was pretty disgusting and the food was pretty average. The pork sandwich was the reconstituted kind with cheese and plenty of BBQ sauces but was okay. The whole place feels outdated with worn out carpart and furniture but it's the only place to stop in springs junction so it's good if you're looking for a pie and a quick stop

Such a nice little cafe with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. The man behind the counter was top notch for service. Such a lovely guy. Doesn't look much when you come in but food was amazing ! Highly recommend the Alpine Big Burger. Cozy fire and a lovely stop on our way through to Hanmer 😊😊

A handy location if you're travelling over Lewis Pass to fuel up, get some refreshments. Not a lot in the way of grocery items. Unfortunately they had been broken into the previous night I believe, so luck to then in getting back to rights

Stopped by here whilst driving through. Partner and I are newly vegan, so weren't expecting to have much choice, especially in such a rural area. SO pleasantly surprised. 2 vegan pies and a black bean vegan burger as well as some vegan desserts. Vegan pie and chips were good, burger was delicious!! Even came with vegan aioli (!) and vegan cheese. Service was exceptional. So considerate, they even asked if we wanted them to use a vat of canola oil instead of animal oil. They heated up a fresh vat with canola for us, had to wait an extra 10 mins but so worth it. Staff very lovely, they care about what their customers want and are open to feedback. Will definitely come back if passing through. Thanks guys! :)

Not the same any more! I had visited this cafe about 10 years back, when tourism was thriving and the place was busy. When I visited earlier in March 2021 on a Monday morning, (only) one person was doing everything- taking orders, making tea / coffee, preparing breakfast, tidying up tables.... To be fair, there was a sign saying “staff wanted”. He did things to the best of his ability. I had to opt for cabinet food and tea instead of a cooked breakfast- the wait for the latter would have been unrealistically long.

Arrived in the evening here on a public holiday. They stayed open especially for through traffic as they had a very busy day with customers. Pretty standard tearoom meal, kept us going for the trip home. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

I think the main reason is new owners. friendly smiling and interested. the decor is still dated but the place is clean tidy food good restrooms clean. worth stopping and I can recommend the home cooked bacon and eggs pie.

Where to start? Freshly made foods. My husband had a Panini from the cabinet and I ordered a toasty for a late lunch and both were amazing. The staffs were friendly and we felt welcomed when we came in. The facilities were clean. No complaints. Definitely a place to stop to grab food and drinks.

We were stuck in Spring’s junction for 24hours due to road closures in all directions after a heavy downpour. These guys were lovely, and let us shelter inside and use their space and power-points. Surprisingly good selection of baked goods, and cooked breakfast was perfectly adequate.

The cafe, not much to choose from, but the food that was in the oven and storage was Abit hmm, but the the service from one person who was amazing doing three to four jobs at once, he did amazing, but sadly the tables in the building was dirty and fully of dishes every single tables, I have no idea what the girls were doing but the poor guy who was doing the services to customers and getting food and running around. He should deserve a well done, but the girls was very poor. Not good service from them.

Covid level 2 had only kicked in the morning we stopped so no public access to food cabinets. Very steady stream of customers and one guy was calmly serving everyone and making drinks. Did a fantastic job and with a smile the whole time. Someone else in kitchen but he was ploughing on front of house. Full marks mate. You deserve to do well. Good size mugs of coffee and nice slices too.

It is ok, feel a bit grubby. I didn't have food as there was not much of a selection. Coffee was average, way too hot to drink, was nearly in Reefton before I could drink it. My suggestion would be to up your game. You may not have tourists but you do have truckies looking for a good hot pie or a decent coffee.

Excellent, freshly made muffins, a good kiwi butter chicken pie and lovely, friendly service. Ok, the interior may not exude ambience, but it was faultless with clean, fresh-smelling facilities and wash-room. During these covid19 times, the staff have maintained an exceptional essential service, and kept their standards very high. We enjoyed our lunch and the chat with the staff. Well done!

Went for lunch here between Christmas and new years on the way north, so Springs Junction was very busy that day. The Cafe was woefully understaffed (1 person at the counter, 1 person making coffee, and 1 person in the kitchen). Long wait for service and no hot food being cooked apart from hot chips. The food was fine, but no selection of plain fruit juices in the fridge unless you want something fizzy.

Lots of selection for food in the cabinets and on the menu, cooks in oil, very good coffee, lots of indoor seating available. They have a fireplace.. which is awesome after a long drive to sit in front of a fireplace while eating some food. Thank you, the apple cinnamon muffin was amazing!! I will return to get another

This is a proper cafe, fried breakfast, burgers and chicken. Friendly staff and working hard to make this place a good place to eat whilst travelling. Sell sandwiches and drinks as well as cooked food. We had fried big breakfast it was really very good value cooked well. Toilets are clean, new hand dryers. Tables being cleared as fast as staff could in this busy place.

You'll get no necked tattooed, bearded barista serving your turmeric latte here...its like walking onto the set of good bye pork pie only they haven't tried to achieve this... Play a game of spot the weirdest combo in the vast food cabinet... Pork riblet and egg croissant won the title when I passed through.... If you have some time to spare, order off the made-to-order menu for fresh hot meals. Otherwise, you can grab pre-made sandwiches, hot pies, ice cream, etc. and get quickly back to driving. - We loved our hot meals and the hot lemon, ginger and honey drink that was fresh made, delicious and perfect for cold weather. - Price: Some reviews said it was overpriced, but after living in NZ for over 3 years, I find the prices as expected. Just a stop on our journey to Nelson. We wanted food and a comfort stop. The facilities were clean and tidy and washing hands was set up well for hygiene. Tha staff were welcoming and friendly and service was quick and cheerful even thought they were busy. My wife ordered a pie and asked for it to be heated and she also ordered a milkshake with half n half chocolate and raspberry... no problem. I just ordered chocolate with a date scone warmed with butter, and a seafood basket. My food was delivered almost as quickly kly as hers and was delicious, with a very tasty tartare sauce . The chips were beautifully cooked while the mussels were a bit over done. The milkshakes were lovely and my date scone was excellent! I would stop again, if only for another huge, delicious date scone! My on was perfect, almost better than Mother's... sorry Mum! We met several bumblebees as we left, several of which h tried to accompany us to Nelson and needed discouragement. Under new management?

Friend & I stopped for coffee, after driving through a snowy Lewis Pass. It was lovely and cosy, sitting by the fire in the dining room. I like my coffee almost boiling hot, and the owner made it perfectly. (I can't stand lukewarm coffee!)

Great place to stop for a break. Good clean rest rooms, wide variety of ready made fast food, great menu selection catering a wide range of tastes. Large selection of refreshments. I have been frequenting this place over the last 20years and seen it go through many changes keeping pace with the times and the ever changing preferences of its customers. Being an isolated service provider in the country, It can be very busy in the summer as people stop on route between christchurch and Nelson. Nice cozy place for a pit stop on cold winter days. It is a common pit stop for tour busses, truckers, and shuttle service providers as it provides a great place to have a stretch, take in the clean alpine air, and admire the picturesque views of the region. A must stop place for a break from travels. Staff are amazing. Very friendly people always ready to help with food selection, directions, and advice on recreational activities in the surrounding area.

Coffee was good, a limited selection off bakery type food but there is a pretty good menu for dine in. Take insect repellent if you are stopping at springs junction because there are zillions of sandflies that will fly off with small children!

As well as being engaged and enthusiastic when we ordered, he checked that we had enjoyed our lunch after our meal which was both delicious and filling. Although having dined a 5 course meal at the nearby Maruia Springs, we were still hungry and were very relieved and satisfied to find extremely tasty venison pies and chips as well as Manpreet's friendly smile and commendable atttitude down the road.
