Very friendly staff and kudos to the person who put the virgin mojito mocktail on the menu it was sublime. Very refreshing on a hot summer day. I had sirloin steak and was cooked medium rare to perfection.

Awesome waiting staff, prompt, efficient, friendly, informative and knowledgeable. Food was on point. We had lamb shanks. Cooked to perfection with meat falling off the bone. Scrumptious.. Just a little bit more ice in my gin and all would of been spot on. You won't be disappointed 🖐

We walked in for an early dinner and were seated right away. Service was excellent. I had the beetroot and goats cheese salad for entree. It was so delicious! I then had the duck confit and gnocchi with hoisin sauce for my main. It was so delicious and reminded me of the duck pancakes except with gnocchi. Everybody loved their meals. My husband had the lamb rump and he said it was cooked perfectly. We sat outside but it was warm because they had the heaters on.

Had an early dinner at Mac's Steak House. Great service and fantastic food on a rainy Saturday night. I ordered Angus Sirloin (medium rare) and my partner ordered Pork Belly from the dinner specials. The waiter that attended our table was very attentive. He knows his stuff very well. Would love to come back in the future when we visit Rotorua.

Great place to eat. Had the special that was on the board outside restaurant. It was awesome and really friendly staff so a very nice place to eat. And if you don't finish your meal you can have a doggy bag and takeaway. You have to try it. By the way I had the steak mushroom sauce. Go try for yourself

I haven't been to Mac's for at least 10 year. This visit truly surprised me. The menu is good and prices very good. One of our party had the steak for lunch. It was exceptional value for money. The only issue was the squid salad. It was very chewy. I dont do squid so I have to believe the person who ordered it. I will be going back

Beautiful meals and Outstanding service. We ordered eggs bene, nachos and the D Rump. Eggs and steak were cooked perfectly (this has not always been the case for us at other restaurants) Next time we will remember to take photos to post here. Highly recommend!

Reasonable meals and the mushroom sauce is great. Only gets 3 stars. 6 diners and 3 were given the lunch menu instead of the dinner menu. You spend ages making a decision only to then be told you can't have it. To be fair, after a bit of negoiation they made what we wanted, but weren't really happy about it.

The restaurant had a nice atmosphere. We were a big group with children but the waiter did a very competent job taking orders. The meals came out in good time and were delivered to the right place. They also provided a dessert with a candle for the birthday girl without being asked and for free. We were impressed.

I feel I'll be a little generous because it didnt give me food poisoning at least, but overall the service wasn't great - we sat down for a good 10min before someone brought over the menu. For entree we ordered the bread selection with spread, but the hummus was a little dry and grainy. For the steak i chose medium rare, but it came pretty well done.... really not the best experience for a steak house..

Me and my partner were in rotorua for 3 days and came here for breakfast the first day and ate out here everytime since. The wait staff and management were great. And service was outstanding. On the Saturday night I had the Angus scotch. It was cooked perfectly. I couldn't fault this place if I tried. One of the best dinning experiences of my life. Great jobs Macs team.

The reviews here don't do this place justice. About 35 NZD for the best steak and sides I've had in years. Great New Zealand craft beer on tap, too. Quick and polite service. I came just after 8PM and they served me right away. I'd come here all the time if I lived in the area.

We were a table of 4 and served us quite promptly. The food was good and decent; the balsamic reduction isn't really necessary - it was already flavourful with the meat. The service was attentive and prompt. Shout to our server who looked about to throw a chair when he was dealing with a table of 8 people who looked really indecisive but maintain composure and professionalism. Highly recommended if you're looking for a steak house in Rotorua.

I had my daughter's 18th birthday lunch here ..I had high expectations for my steak meal salad & chips to be just how I have always but they weren't on their game, they missed some orders, my steak was little & dry even for well done I might give them another day next month to redeem themselves.

One of those places that wasn't atrocious but has huge room for improvement and is surrounded by some serious competition. Good: - fantastic thick battered onion rings - our waiter let us sample the tap cider when we couldn't decide on a drink - the $29 menu (2 courses from a set menu) was great for us (available 1730 to 1930) - the artisan bread & garlic bread starters were excellent - lakeman beer 👌 The not so good: - Our group of 3 dined early on a Friday at 5pm and despite only five other tables the drinks were noticeable slow to arrive. - our medium rare steaks were just a touch overdone which wasn't a deal breaker but keep in mind this is a steakhouse - the pepper on our table was empty - our cutlery jar had only 1x fork in it - service was friendly but inattentive So overall it was an ok dining experience but I don't think I'd recommend it. The attention to detail was lacking and in this dog eat dog world of dining out those things are important. Ultimately other establishments on Eat St are probably better. Do not dine here if wanting a cocktail.

Lovely, efficient staff and a great location. It's a bit overpriced considering the small size and the simplicity of the meals, but that's probably to be expected considering it is in a tourist hotspot.

This review is based on a lunch experience. Pancakes and seafood chowder. Cappuccino with cinnamon on top and Latte with soymilk. Two nicely cooked huge pancakes with two sweet sauces: maple syrup and strawberry syrup and sprinkled icing sugar and creams. Nicely presented and it was delicious. Seafood chowder was nice and hot, creamy and a lots of seafoods in there with crispy warmed two pieces of breads. Just good portion for a lunch or a brunch. Both Coffee were nice. We enjoyed them. We were there around 11: 30 am. We had left our dog in our car as we know most of restaurants aren't allowing pets in their premises. However I was cheeky and asked if our dog can be with us. A nice and kind waiter looked around and allowed us to have our dog out door seating area and explained that dogs normally aren't allowed but no other customers were there so in that one occasion we were allowed to havr our dog with us while we were having our meals.: very kind indeed!. Also the waiter brought a bowl of water for my dog as well. I will definitely go there again: next time though, I won't take my dog. We travel Auckland via Rotorua. It takes longer time but we love Rotorua.: this brunch experience is one of the reasons why.

My husband and i wanted a nice lunch for my birthday, macs had the most beautiful service from staff, we were seated quickly and comfortably.. our waiter was awesome and quick!! We ordered the sirlion steak meal each and that was surpreme!! Affordable, every part of the meal beautifully tasteful and cooked/made to perfection.. mushroom sauce PERFECT!! Highly recomend and will visit again and again every time we stay!!

This is located among heaps of eateries, so the vibe is great. The place has a cosy close feeling but is still spacious enough. The menu is varied so there are choices for herbivores and carnivores, the portions were a decent size and tasted good, and the prices were very reasonable for the food quality. We paid 130 for 5 mains and 6 drinks for brunch. So pretty good for rotorua central. Highlight was actually the coffee. The barista is great, and makes a delicious mocha and cappuccino. (I had both in one sitting) I recommend going for breakfast or lunch. Especially when hungover. Yum

Hands down the best meal out I've ever had. Would consider travelling from Auckland just to eat here again, the whole meal was perfect. We started with the garlic bread which I was hesitant about at first but it was SO good!!! I had the lamb rump for mains and it was beautiful, so tender and full of flavour. For desert I had the strawberry cheese cake which was the perfect end to the meal, again super tasty. As well as the best lemon, lime and bitters drink I've had out for a very long time. The atmosphere was excellent and the staff fantastic, happy polite friendly. Totally recommend eating here and will definitely be back again. Nice food but the beef burger needs more in it. Some bacon and caramelized onions would have been lovely..not keen on mushroom sauce or avocado sauce. Cooked to perfection tho. The food is very good, I had the venison cooked medium rare which was excellent. It came out surprisingly quickly considering they were reasonably busy. We sat outside which was very pleasant, they have gas fires and infrared heaters if it gets cold. Finished off with desert, had cheesecake which was made in its own glass instead of a slice. Not quite sure on the reviews here. My wife and I had excellent service at Mac’s albeit wasn’t busy. We had the Snapper which was the catch of the day w it risotto. The dish was great. We also ordered a side of artisan bread and truffle green beans which were both good, but not quite as great as the fish. Definitely not a 2.5 like yelp states in my opinion.

I am shocked by the rating and reviews here. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Service is great meet you at the entrance, show you to a table if able to offer you inside or outside. Bring water to the table. Offer you to order drinks which turn up very quickly. Never found the wait to long for food. I have had the pork belly, lamb rump, lamb shank and tonight the t bone steak. I don't like steak but man I loved my steak tonight. Cooked perfectly, wasn't cold, so tender. The salad was very tastey and the fries were hot. We come on holiday and after trying few other places we choose to eat here every night as regardless of what we order it is always so good and the service is incredible. Give it a shot reviews aren't always everything!

Service was excellent, and the food equally so. We had Venison, and Rack of Lamb. Both were cooked beautifully- tender and very tasty. Accompanying veg and sauces equally so. I’m not one for lashings of sauce/relish which seems to smother so much of the food served in restaurants these days, so these dishes had just the right amount and complemented, rather than overrode the taste of the meal. A good wine list too. All round great value!

The staff are very attentive. I had the lamb rack which was so soft, just melted in your mouth. The best lamb I've had the only downside to the meal was the sides and sauce, it was all very sweet for my liking. I'd personally ask for a mushroom sauce with mash and veg. Hubby ordered the rib eye however he didnt like his cut of meat. Our waiter was nice enough to let us try the wine before ordering our glass. Not bad overall.

Had dinner here on arriving to Rotorua 10 July 2020, very busy, but we got a table, service not too bad, not great, as in we had to ask them to come to the table to get more drinks, but always polite staff. Food was great, loved the Lamb Shanks on specials, so tender and juicy, hubby had hashstack also lovely, kids had pasta and burger, our son didnt like the burger as doesnt like onion, and the beef was different, but he is fussy eater...desert lovely, only gripe would be brownie size is small for the price...my opinion of course, but it is a nice brownie. Def will come back.

Ordered the potato and kumera hash stack (didn’t want anything too heavy) sounded good on paper unfortunately it was missing the kumera, a store bought potato hash brown with salad that left an oily aftertaste was not what I was expecting. We found this place for breakfast thismorning and were comfortable in the area outside. We noticed the waiter was a great customer liasson and being front of house however he was busy and took a while to take our order...our order was finally taken but it took almost 40 minutes from being seated until we got our food. Unfortunately for me it doesn't get much better...my scrambled eggs was like egg foo yong and strange...the bread was too thick and the bacon was more stewed than fried so I would not go here again for breakfast. I hope that the steak is better...I would rate this place 6 out of 10 and the reason is the service was better than the food

My partner and I went to this restaurant for our anniversary last night - we were turned away as walk ins around 7 (with tables empty with no reserved signs on them) so we made a booking for an hour later. After about 5 minutes we ordered. Drinks came out promptly however we waited just over an hour for our mains to be bought out (we did not have entrees). The table behind us had been waiting longer than that too. Not once in this hour were we asked if we needed anything such as more drinks or ensured that the food was on its way and we were in the most central part of the building with staff walking past us every two minutes. Food was good once we got it, meat cooked perfectly for lamb and slightly under for venison but glad it tasted good.

Probably my favourite restaurant in Rotorua! A good selection of classic hearty meals and desserts that always hit the spot. Certainly not the cheapest meal in town, but delicious food and big portions make it good value for money. Look out for the specials and deals on the boards out front. Plenty of comfortable seating indoors and outdoors with a small logfire out front for the chilly nights.

Been some restaurants in Rotorua...most were just ok. But Mac’s Steak House......Food quality was really unexpected! We had steak and pork chop - juicy & yummy! Tiramisu - absolutely fabulous! My son is a picky eater. He had a small bite and immediately fell in love! We will definitely go to Mac’s again!

Hey I had my sons 30th bday on sun 16 august, due to pain meds I cannot drive in the evening. I rang macs, who were happy to deliver an amazing meal, The butchers block, 400grm steak!! & sides made our evening extra special with macs providing free delivery, in a Chef uniform & also using social distancing & contact less practices, macs also gave us free drinks & congradulatons to my son. Thankyou Macs for making our day wonderful. I would recommend the Chocolate Brownie with berry compote for desert! 😊
