L.Food: outstanding and reasonably priced.
Service: professional, personable and timely.
It was inspiring to meet Ryan who was brilliant at his job and clearly enjoyed his work. He was very personable and took the time to go the extra mile with us. Eggs Benedict and Lemon and blueberry pancakes were outstanding.
I hope that the boarders opening will bring the tourism back to Rotorua, and the Matai can get the attention it deserves.
Would definitely recommend, and will be returning myself when I’m back in Rotorua.
R.Wow, this place just really deserves much more love and attention to be honest. If you’re travelling to Rotorua, Matai is one of the most must-try-out fine dining restaurants in the area. Fantastic mind blowing taste and very fancy, well displayed dishes for your social media posts. It’s the feeling when the dishes look too good and you don’t want to eat it anytime soon, since your eyes wish to enjoy the art of food displaying on those plates for a little longer. They accomplished both of the visual and flavour expectations from the customers and there’s absolutely no regret of dining here. Many thanks to the head chef since I could see his passion reflects through the way he cooked and presented the food. The customer service quality in here is also on top and I want to say thanks a lot to the staff who welcomed us that night too, he was so nice and polite, so friendly and professional to us. I would love to visit Matai again whenever I have a chance to travel to Rotorua, because that’s just how much I love and cherish this place. Such a hidden gem that needed to be found !

By far the best dining experience I've had to date and was able to treat my wife to an amazing dining experience for our anniversary. If you haven't tried Matai, you need to! It may change your perception of fine dining forever.
The waitstaff are very personable and attentive, the restaurant had such a relaxing vibe and the quality of food was rediculously good. Everything was so balanced. The chef took simple ingredients and combined them in a way that made it VERY easy to finish everything on the plate. Definitely need to try if you haven't yet!
M.I’m a local and this is Rotorua’s best restaurant … and probably the only real “fine dining” restaurant in Rotorua. Every meal is a complete work of art. A very special place to dine. The chef Ryan is a master of his craft.
What makes Matai even more special is the amazingly attentive service from Finesse who is the main waiter there. We love him and he makes every visit a great experience.

l.Such a fantastic meal. It would have to be the best eating experience I've had in a long time. The fillet was spot on and the vegetarian mushroom dish my wife had blew her mind.

Friendly, attentive and quick. Price reflects the quality of food all our mains were perfect. I asked for medium rare for my steak and it was beyond my expectations. Would highly recommend this place A+++
T.The owner/chef kept the restaurant open for us because we booked in, even though it was outside of regular hours. So accomodating! His service was excellent, very informative and friendly. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We had a really lovely Sunday lunch, and would definitely recommend it and go again ourselves.

M.Outstanding food and service. We wandered into the restaurant late and a bit disoriented from a long drive. We were very warmly welcomed, making it just in time for the dinner service. My fish was amazing and my partner enjoyed a flavourful ravioli. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted devine right down to the very last vegie. Highly recommended.
E.Today I got the amazing opportunity to try the twice cooked pork belly with chilly and passionfruit glaze, pickled cabbage and apple slaw. This was my first time ever trying pork belly, and I really enjoyed it I loved the presentation and also the amazing staff, finesse and head chief Mr Gregorash. Will definitely recommend to other and dine again.

N.Had a memorable meal at Matai restaurant last night. Delicious flavour combinations, immaculate presentation and service. Not sure we would describe the food as ' unadorned ' the attention to colour and taste made for a truly fine dining experience. Amazing variety of fresh perfectly cooked vegetables.
Certainly not cheap but would be a great place to celebrate a special occasion, and given the menu changes frequently it would be tempting to come back soon.
Only suggestion would be to add a desert wine by the glass to compliment the creme caramel

M.Had a wonderful meal at Matai last night - Entrees: OMG the Gruyere Soufflé was just to die for, Crayfish 3 ways was sublime - flavours textures, beautifully presented with micro greens. Mains: John Dory for me and the steak for hubby ( price was up there at $54) but my husband loved it sides of greens with pomegranate dressing, beautifully tender and cooked to perfection. Desserts (yes we made room): pineapple and apple ravioli, on an apple puree with mini meringues and petals. Oh and the cocktails - wahoo! So one cocktail here is worth 2 of anywhere else. So thank you Ryan, Gretchen, Nate and Jan - we loved it.
