Reviews of Yaki Yaki Korean Restaurant
R.
Spacious and instant service. We went for lunch, it is $25 for the BBQ special, it's a little bit more at dinner time. It's all you can eat meat, rice and salad. You also get a Miso, nibbles (so good) OR dumplings as a started.
Pork - We cook it first and then cook the other meat so it ends up crispy.
Chicken - This is good and is marinated.
Beef - It's just plain beef.
H.
We were greeted then had the option to choice our table for four, our order was the BBQ special, this consisted of pork, beef and chicken ( free refill)
served with rice (free refill)
side salads (free refill)
Bean Tofu soup (free refill), we chose the chicken nibbles, chilled water available, as you are required to cook the meat one cannot moan about the chef skills cause your IT!!! be careful as you cook though (K Drama experience meal wise) Loved it all 😋
T.
It has been a while since I last dined here, and the experience is still awesome. We received a warm welcome and the service by the ladies out front was friendly and attentive. Good selection of fresh side dishes and plenty of protein beautifully marinated.
C.
First round of buffet is good. When we asked for refills for meat, the flavor is less. Not consistent. Adult $39, children 5-8 yes old $14.50 pet child, 8-11 years old $21 per child,12 years and above adult price.
T.
Its a big meal
Really enjoyed pancake, spicy pork soup and vege bibimbop.
And help yourself side dishes.
M.
$25 for all you can eat Korean bbq lunch. Meat, sides, salad and soup were delicious! The sauces complimented the meat well, we throughly enjoyed the meal for our first time as we sat and ate for 2hours. overall good food, great value. We will be back to dine in.
L.
It was okay. Cheap, you can have as much meat as you want and side food as well.
I was expected more like real banchan but not really. And there was heaps of sauce options but I wanted something that we can have in Korea or even a paper that mentions how to make those sauce would be nice.
N.
Keen on an all you can eat BBQ buffet? I’d be nowhere else, can’t beat a Korean barbecue. Perfect place for the big eaters out there like me. Go get those tumeke gains.
L.
This unassuming restaurant surprised me with a delicious Kimchi pancake.
I ordered the small and it filled me. I cancelled my main order... yummy. I was given a side plate to dish the side orders. Really good, I’ve never eaten ‘jelly blocks’ and actually liked it 👍
The atmosphere was relaxed. A few large tables that I enjoyed observing. I was seated at the bar because it was only myself.
Definitely give a try!
H.
The best here is a service, quite polite, atmosphere is welcoming) For this price is OK, dinner-29$ per adult, , not so wide range of korean sides and meat, only 3 options (chicken, beef and pork belly), but it can be refilled any time you want, it's not served by yourself, waiters just bring it for you. Recommend just for simple dinner, to try one time👌
J.
Go for the All You Can Eat menu! For $25, this is the best deal! Especially for eating out in New Zealand. The meat was good quality and the other side dishes were nice too. Lots of variety. We chose to get the flounder that came with the all you can eat and it was so good! The staff were friendly and attentive. However, reading other people's reviews, don't be put off if the waiters seem unattentive. It is custom in Korean dining, you really have to flag down the waiters if you want something. We would totally eat here again!
I.
Really enjoyed our visit. We went for the all you can eat option and it was great. The staff were helpful and attentive, making sure you have enough food and changing the grill frequently to prevent burning. The kimchi and other sides are good as well. Definitely worth a visit.
J.
Absolutely my favorite Korean restaurant in town. Never disappointed the food is always spot on and the draft are lovely!
Best all you can eat bbq 😋
J.
Good value for money, limited salad options though. Price was right for it... highly recommend for big appetites...
M.
We chose $27 BBQ dinner course. All sides, kimuchi, pickled onion, potatoes and seaweed salad were delicious! Also they served us chicken, beef and pork slices. But especially pork was too oily and it made our stomach tired😅lol
B.
Clean tidy place. Reka delicious yummy kai! I've never bbqued b4 but that's what it was like but on a much smaller scale. Cute n fun there were small gas cookers on the tepu table that you operated w meat already prepared n cut up 4 you beef chicken pork. There was a v tasty array of scrumptious salads n managemt allowed us to provide dessert for our sisters surprise 60th bday celebration! The staff were v friendly efficient n accommodating. My 1st &definitely will not b my last time there! 😉
S.
The place is not that well decorated, but their food are awesome. Their pork belly is the best. You can also get the side dishes for free when you dine in there.
K.
Korean BBQ restaurant with fresh grill options and buffet style all you can eat at a very reasonable price. We opted for dishes from the menu which were much larger than expected (in a positive way). However, the lack of ventilation inside the restaurant means your clothes will smell of barbecue and cooking while eating. Also, credit card payments have a surcharge which seems rather outdated model of doing business while much smaller businesses do not.
I.
This used to be the best in town. But the variety of food has reduced. The side dishes options have reduced also... Won't be back unfortunately.
B.
The buffet was lacking some sides it seemed very westernised and not as authentic but so awesome that it’s all you can eat for $30 that’s a mean deal! Needed to have the potato side and bean sprouts were missing!
S.
Very impressed with our Korean BBQ, left extremely full, everything was very yummy. Plenty of food and it all tasted good.
N.
A great choice if you are looking for a Korean restaurant in Rotorua. I had many pork stew hot pot before in Auckland but this is the best I have ever had. Will come back again
T.
Staff were service-oriented, the boss was very attentive to ensure everything runs smoothly. BBQ buffet and price was great.
C.
Very nice meal, not alot has changed since last I went, but still value for money
A.
It popular, free salad, BBQ is nice, but the manu is hard to read.
V.
This is our 2nd go-to restaurant in Rotovegas. I liked the unlimited side dishes especially the seaweed and meat you can have. I prefer going there when the place is not packed with people or tourists so we can get the right service from the waiters. They always have new staff around, some are really good and others are trying their best. The owner/manager is really friendly. The buffet meal is not over-priced; (when you are really hungry, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth.) Worth having a visit most of the time.
E.
It was slow at the time we went there. It took nearly half an hour to have our food served. I assumed it was due to the holiday period and they were under staffed. We were given plates with food stains on two of them, made me worry about the cleaness of other utencils. We ordered the usual korean dishes like bbq beef, bibimbop, bean source soup, beef bone soup. They were so different from the ones I had in auckland over the years. There were a LOT of onions in every dishes. I meant a lot a lot. Flavours were a bit plain too. There were flies flying around our table, must be the dirty portable stove. The good thing though that they offer free refill on all side dishes. With holiday surcharge, the cost was not quite justified for the food quality and dinning experience. But it is Rotorua, unless you are extreme hungry for a korean food fix, come here, probably try their self serve bbq meat. Otherwise, personally not recommended.
Yaki yaki? Yucky yucky? Change the name maybe?
A.
It was my birthday and itwas my neace that took me the food was so very good i will be going their agian soon
K.
Beautiful experience for a first timer I didn't know what I was doing but the food was Beautiful
C.
No air conditioning, fans not enough, better to have seats near front door in summer season
C.
Nice BBQ Buffet.
Very nice sauce for meat & salad.
M.
We ordered stir fried meats with veges. Tasted pretty good, but not authentic Korean taste. Portion was on the light side for the price, but makes up for it by giving you buffet side dish.
B.
Amazing big restaurant. Vegan options. Lovely staff. Lovely food. Relaxed. Awesome side dishes. The whole family loved it, carni's and vegans alike.
T.
My family and I ate here lastnight and the food was wonderful. All you can eat is well worth it and good value at only $27 an adult and $14 or $15 a child. The staff were very friendly and refilled the meat, soup, rice, water whenever we asked for it. The side dishs were nice too as you help yourself. Thanks guys from the Naki team 😊
J.
Yummy. Staff were nice. Pork meat was a bit too fatty though. The range of kimchi, pickles, etc was great!
S.
We visited this restaurant twice while we were on holiday in Rotorua The atmosphere is not like a Korean reastaurant but the food was not disappointing. The quality of meat was excellent! The staff were nice. The size was good and generous. We enjoyed the authentic taste of Korean food.
V.
Very delicious food! good prices, and awesome staff! Highly recommend! you will defiantly enjoy) Thank you guys for the great cuisine and service, I will definitely be back when I’m around)
P.
Very good value, excellent food.
A.
This was my first time at Yaki Yaki, but it was my family's second time. We were in New Zealand for a holiday and my family made sure to take me to eat Korean there as they loved their all you can eat option. I have to say I loved their Kimchi and as someone who loves Korean food this place is up there in service and delicious servings.
J.
Great food, authentic Korean style BBQ. Great value for money. We were there on Sunday night over Queens birthday weekend. Fresh meat and all your can eat buffet, including side dishes, rice, salad and miso soup and a very popular place indeed for locals and tourist, and they come by bus loads so you can't go wrong. The manager and staff here work very hard and even under pressure, they are very friendly and maintain smiles at all time. We could tell the waitresses want to do the best they can for customer. If you ask me what is one thing that can improve, I would say put on an extra staff on busy nights like weekends. Overall highly recommended, booking is essential or expect waiting. Oh, don't wear your beat clothing as BBQ smell will linger on your clothes, but we loved it. Korean BBQ and cook your own is perfect for cold Rotorua evenings.

Revisited
No more roasted rice tea
Free top up dish not much choice
The food taste gone down
Feel that the business are more focus on travel group then walk-in customer

A.
Yum!!!! Meat is delicious and nice range of sides to choose from :)
T.
Always great service here. The cook your own BBQ it well worth it
J.
1st experience and i must say i loved it ! 27 dollars for all u can eat korean bbq style pork, chicken and beef! YUMMMY LOL also had nice marinade n decent amount of seasoning on the meat. Did i tell u that u get free refills on rice and salad. Plus they have a little mini bar sort of thing for sides that u can help ur self to as much as u like 🙌💯 its not a fancy restraunt by far, but worth the bit of coin for sure 🙌🙏 I defs will go back again.
L.
Nice flavourful marinated meet
We enjoyed our experience. Unfortunately we got there half an hour before closing and weren't told on arrival,,, but once seated and started cooking we were told that they were closing in 30 minutes 😢 😕
D.
All you can eat meat that you cook how you like
D.
Awesome beef and chicken and decent sides selection. The cooking process (aluminum foil on a cast iron plate) made the pork belly a bit dry, but that made little difference. The place got completely packed between 7-8, and with the low prices they have, not a surprise.
e.
Great place for a group dinner.
Staff are friendly, fast service and tidy area.
For $25, this place is a great all you can eat. You can request more meat, and sides you can help yourself to.
Felt I got my moneys worth. Will come again.
L.
They have exactly what my husband enjoys, all he can eat meat and rice. The beef is delicious. Don't know what they marinate it in...but it is yum.
I saw a review of 1 star for service, but we haven't experienced bad service in the 3 times we have come here.
So if you want to be able to eat as much rice and meat as you like...choose the bbq special and enjoy.
T.
Great dining experience. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was plentiful, delicious and well priced. The tables are well spaced out.
Deducted a star only for the poor music selection which didn't match the ethnic experience- something gentle and soft is required.
Otherwise a spot on restaurant- highly recommended.
S.
Had it a couple of times. Each time was delicious. The BBQ was a good value and the meats were tasty. The side dishes was unlimited and made the whole meal reach perfection. Will return again
C.
$29 for an all you can eat Korean BBQ. Great price and taste good.
J.
Really enjoyable , first time experiencing this an it was fabulous I will definitely be coming back for more 😁
a.
Overall, it was okay - service was excellent, and the restaurant itself had a nice friendly atmosphere. Side dishes were also excellent, but the whole experience was spoiled by the average soups we had as our main dishes. The soy bean soup and fish egg soup both tasted of little else but salt - would go again but will make sure we are there early enough to enjoy the bbq and avoid the soups!
P.
I really enjoyed the food here. The meat was nice and there were many side dishes (this was a surprise and made the meal diverse). The service was not toooo attentive, but that didn't really detract from the experience of the excellent meal. We had the all you can eat meat option.
M.
Great food for a good price!
We have just moved to Rotorua and decided to take our family out for dinner as a "thank you" for helping us move. We decided Yaki Yaki on a suggestion from a cousin and absolutely loved it.
Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Service: ⭐⭐⭐
Ambiance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Price: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Overall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The meat is marinated beautifully and we all found ourselves going up multiple times for our favourite side dishes. Ultimately the service was a little disappointing, we found ourselves waiting for almost 10 minutes on refills (that didn't even require cooking) and the night we went it wasn't particularly busy at all. However, the novelty of cooking your own food at your table is always enjoyable and, despite the language barrier, the manager was very friendly and did his best to accommodate us.
We will definitely be back again and would recommend to anyone looking for something very different but undeniably delicious.
G.
Love Yakiyaki down to earth Korean BBQ with the best kimchi around.
K.
*EDITED AFTER OWNERS RESPONSE* Thank you for your reply to my previous review. I have amended my initial review.
Meat was nice, side dishes left a bit to be desired, but would come again for the meat itself. The price is reasonable as well.
X.
I highly recommend Yaki Yakis bbq buffet meal deal, it's affordable and delicious. You get a choice of dumplings or a flounder. You also get Soup, rice and dips for your meat. You can eat as much meat and side dishes as you like. There's is a nice casual atmosphere and I loved that they had highchairs available. Very good customer service. A++++
A.
The best Korean BBQ Buffets in Rotorua. It gets really busy on weekend nights. So best to book if you plan on visiting during the dinner rush.
Recommend strongly.
m.
I thought this shop is Korean restaurant but staffs were Indian people and menu were not ordinary Korean meal names so we wondered,, my meal was not looked like Korean chefs cooking, so asked and they seems to be Chinese or Indian chefs now.. side dishes were served at buffet style which should be careful even at level 1.
R.
Friendly and helpful staff. Selection of meat was bacon, beef and marinated chicken. Marinated chicken was super delicious. Not a huge selection of meat and side dishes but was absolutely yummy - 1.00pm, 28.10.17.
G.
Love the Korean BBQ and the Kimchi
B.
Service was not bad, but nothing particularly special. We had two soups (bean sprout, fish egg) which were ok, but didn't have much flavor besides salt. Minimal choice for side dishes, and they were self-serve. The rice was mediocre at best. The kimchi pancakeI was good, though!
s.
I do not get to have Korean takeaways very often - I had the squid and pork stir fry - it was really nice.
The restaurant is obviously very popular - it was packed on a Monday night!
K.
Understaffed and chaotic BUT the wait staff was great, they seemed stressed out and over worked but still managed to get everyone what they needed. I've seen restaurants with the same seating capacity, but with twice the number of wait staff but not do as good a job as the girls here. The food was average but really good value.
M.
Good customer service of waiter. Attentive to our needs in serving warm water since it is cold weather. Food is in good taste and good serving with refillable side dishes. Owner of the restaurant in charge to table servings cleaning and arrangement well.
J.
This place is clean, comfortable, and has great service. The self-serve, traditional Koren side-dishes were also a very nice touch with some unique items like seaweed salad, kimchi and pickled tofu/onion. However, for the price and for what you're getting, I think the dishes felt average. The menu is old, and could use updating as a lot of the items have been crossed off with Sharpie or had their prices changed with the pen. I would advise the owners and the chef to reevaluate some of their dishes and maybe come up with a few more options, and maybe some more affordable options for Vegetarians (as there really isn't much for Vege's) I'd also like to add that for 6, tiny, tasteless and unnatractive-looking, vegetable dumplings - served with Ketchup - $8 is ludicrous. I felt like we were eating deep fried cardboard from a package that had been sent around the world. You guys can do better than this, I'm sure. All in all, in a pinch...it will do. But at this stage, it's nothing to write home about.
i.
Great food. Always 10/10😃
A.
First time here, enjoyed our Kai. We had the BBQ Lunch deal and it was really good. Good experience. Will recommend.
M.
Was a bit hungry so ordered their "small" kimchi pancake. I found it rather huge and quite delicious, perhaps it had a bit too much oil in it, was good nonetheless. Will be back for another one for sure!
a.
good food and low price.
good place^^~
D.
They have to pay more attention to their service. 2 staff members isnt just enough to serve more than 15 tables. Korean food is korean food. Its the customer service that what makes a restaurant stand out.
S.
Relatively authentic Korean. Bimbimbap didn't come in the usual pot, but felt more like a pizza plate that was used. Every other dish was delicious and came piping hot.
M.
Really enjoyed the all you can eat Korean BBQ. Beef, Chicken and Pork. Unlimited side dishes. Flounder and dumplings, soup and coleslaw salad. All for $25
E.
Nice BBQ,25$
J.

I.
Delicious! Good lunch deal- all you can eat special. Meat seasoned well ate until I couldn't eat anymore.
J.
The food was nice enough. Service was good. The decor is a bit tired though.
L.
Accommodating for a last minute large hungry group. Value for money.
Friendly staff.
L.
Decent service, food quality and taste at a reasonable price. Perhaps a little less salt in the soup and side dishes would be healthier.
R.
The lady that owns this restaurant has to be the nicest person you can meet, she goes out of her way to make sure her customers are happy with their meal and the service.
S.
Beef was really nice, kimchi too. Loved the other meats also.
W.
