Came for dinner and was lucky to find a spare table. Limited menu on offer for dinner, mainly pizzas and chips. Big selection of pizzas, including kid's pizza. The large is huge, so we shared a Medium between 2 adults and the kid's had a cheese pizza each. Lovely service and delicious food

Thankfully, much better than its Frank Zappa namesake... Dangerous Kitchen has been our go-to spot for pizzas, salads and juices while we have been in the Bay over 2021. Everything is made on site and is always fresh and delicious. There are different options for everybody, regardless of your dietary requirements and many ingredients are sourced locally. Our favourites have been, 'The Vegan' pizza, salmon pizza and 'Live Green' juice. Although we have sadly not had the opportunity to use this since the traffic light system was introduced, there is also usually a lovely wee beer garden to sit in at the back which is nice on a good day. Highly recommended.

What a find in Takaka!!! Delicious muffins and good coffee. All served as takeaway, but some umrelated seating on pavement area. Service a bit slow on occasions ... understaffed??? Recommended!!

Had a seafood pizza and a southern style one there. The ingredients were fresh and good. We really enjoyed it. Didn’t try their cakes but they looked very beautiful. Also loved those art pieces on the wall. A must go in Takaka

A gem. A great little place with some very interesting food options. Seems to be very popular with the hippies too. Lots of seating indoor and outdoor (there's a cool garden area out the back) and a bar in the middle. I had a venison sausage roll, it was damn good. The prices are perhaps a bit steep but the quality matches what you'd expect for that and the cafe's environment. You should probably dine in to get the full value.

Great restaurant. A bit expensive. Many gluten-free and vegan options. Pizza is delicious and salad too - but it would be great to tell that pizza and salad has a lot of parsley on top. Since the amount is so much it would be great to know that in advance. Cheers

Great pizza and beer and outstanding coffee. Best place to visit in town. Make sure you try a chicken cranberry pizza, it is truly amazing! Everything goes great with the local craft beer from hop nation with an IPA and golden larger on tap. Enjoy! Remember to try a coffee!

🌱 They have 5+ fully vegan meals and plenty more vegetarian options that can be made vegan too! Staff is very helpful and open to adjusting your meal the way you like it. They have a lovely Biergarten too and plenty of cold drinks in glass bottles. Many ingredients are organic too - hence the slightly higher price than at a “standard” takeaway. I also liked that they had paper straws (with little turtles on them)

Absolutely in love with this place! Almost always busy during high-season, the staff is friendly and the restaurant very cozy and beautiful. Sometimes there's live music and people play piano! Vegan and glutenfree wholefood. Love you guys ❤️

The ambience of the restaurant and cafe is just amazing. The small terrace in the front is great for sunny days to enjoy Takaka vibe. The food is extraordinary , pizzas are just delicious and the food that you just can grab for breakfast , coffee are really good. The art pieces from a local artist are insane. If you want a great experience while on Takaka, go to The dangerous Kitchen. Staff is really friendly and always taking care of the customers. Amazing experience

Great vegan options!. We had the bean pizza with spinach, cashew nuts and tahini. Best pizza iI can remember. They also made the burrito and pasta vegan for us.

Dangerous kitchen gave me the best value, delicious breakfast I could remember......cheesey thin pizza with pesto, grilled tomatoes, bacon sausage and perfectly cooked poached eggs.....and then there is the coffee.....just the best coffee I've had in ages, better than most Wellington outfits. Great setting, sitting in the sun out the back, didn't want to leave. If they had six stars, I'd give it.👍🙂👨‍🍳

Wasn't expecting to find this place during my journey through NZ and can definitely appreciate why others refer to this place as a "Gem". Friendly staff, quick service and HEARTY vegan options. Definitely one of the best breakfasts I've had during my vacation. The space is beautifully decorated and well lit. My only gripe was with the cost of a cup of tea - but comes with the territory I guess! Would definitely eat here again.

Nice restaurant in the way to Golden Bay in the Nelson Tasman area. Is located in Takaka. Very good restaurant with excellent choices of pizzas and a nice menu choices.

Had to wait 50 minutes for the food, as the waiter mentioned at the beginning. I loved the food, prices are reasonable and there's a cool atmosphere in the garden.

Fantastic place to grab a coffee and watch the hippies go by... not quite perfect but as google wont let you give half stars we’ve awarded the full five by family average. A fab caramel slice, great coffee (but maybe try another Supreme blend other than the boxer), and amazing breakfasts.

Plenty of delicious plant based options, pizza was so tasty and the caramel slice was delicious.

I, an adult human male, ordered the fluffly pancakes for lunch, and I have no regrets. Coffee was delicious too.

The biggest chunks of salmon on the pizza 😃 Definitely worth the price as I'm used to tiny Dominos/Hells Pizza toppings. Delicious!

I'm not normally big on salads but I was in the mood for something healthy and ordered the chicken salad. I was served a huge pile of chicken and greenery which was bigger than Takaka Hill and absolutely delicious. First time I've ever had to ask for a doggy bag in a restaurant and it was for a salad of all things! Will definitely be back next time I'm passing through.

Great place, awesome pizzas. Got pizza and a beer for a good price and was completley blown away by the quality and amount of it. Will make this a usual stop whenever im over!

Like some of the other comments, the pizza bases weren't great. The toppings were lovely, but the bases were comparable to precooked supermarket ones - thin, and really dense/firm (even had those uniform perforations in them which seemed odd for home made). Was hoping for the airy bubbly woodfired type of base which would've made it awesome. Didn't feel the need to tell staff as this is just our opinion - I assumed this is what their bases are like normally.

Just the best pizza in Takaka and one of the best I ever had! Do yourself a favor and grab something to eat there, you won't regret it.

Wow. What a truly wonderful place. Incredible pizzas with mountains of topping and crispy thin base. A burrito to die for loaded with delicious ground beef , fresh veges and sour cream and a salad for a king, a mountain of leaves , roasted crunchy nuts with chicken and loads of pickled tangy veges. Excellent local and new Zealand craft beer and great wine selection. The outdoor area with cute shady trees and fairy lights really top off this vibrant colourful atmosphere. Service is cheerful, attentive and food came fast. Can I give 6 stars? We are going back for breakfast tomorrow!!

This is an absolute treasure!! Good luck if you can get past the laden cabinets without pausing and admiring. A Cafe by day becomes a vibrant, convivial evening cafe/ bistro. The accent is on local produce and why wouldn't you if you are in this amazing region! An intelligent but simple beer and wine list; the restaurant buys directly from the producer so know what works. Servings are generous and well priced. We had a mezzo platter which was groaning with treats, homemade hummus and Pesto being some of the highlights. I couldn't choose between two of the Pizza options so they kindly gave the 2 halves. Finally, the staff are at the bottom of what makes this place such a pleasure to be at. Attentive, knowledgeable and engaging, they really made the night!

My favourite place in Takaka. Best pizza, and catering for vegans, vegetarians, gluten & dairy & sugar free, and whatever is on offer tastes great. Lovely garden out at the back, always good and fast service - highly recommended :)

My husband and I went to Dangerous Kitchen this afternoon for coffee and a treat. It was so good we decided to book a table for dinner! We received the most friendly service EVER, the ambiance was relaxed and enjoyable, and the food was delicious. We ordered pizza, pasta, and a salad. We appreciated how most of the food is local, organic, spray-free, and ethically sourced. Would defiantly go back and recommend to anyone passing through. I wish there were establishments like this all over NZ, such a treat. Thank you Dangerous Kitchen.

Garden seating is nice on sunny days. Not sure where the 5-star reviews are coming from in regards to the pizzas. We stopped in for some pizzas while passing through on our way to Collingwood. It wasn't terribly busy (maybe 6 tables seated), but we still had to wait almost 50 minutes for our two pizzas. For both of the pizzas, the thin crust was not great (reminded me of an oversize water biscuit) and the toppings were so-so.

We are right this minute sitting in Dangerous Kitchen. It's not often that I feel compelled to write a rave review, but we have just enjoyed the best hot strong coffee of our holiday here .... Plus a delicious giant almond, blueberry and lemon curd muffin. SO delicious. Trying to work out how we can fit in another visit before we head south for home. Well done Dangerous Kitchen 👍We will spread the word ☺️

Not the cheapest but cool vibe, friendly staff and a good selection of craft beers. Near a free camping ground and a good value paid for camp site.

I was having a dinner with my daughter. We were undecided which pizza 🍕 to choose and the staff said we can order half and half. Hooray! We ordered a large Salmon Anatoki and Southern Style Pizza. The ingredients used on these thin base pizzas are fresh and organic. The salmon pizza 🍕 is quite cheesy 🧀 and smoky with spinach leaves underneath those cream cheese 🧀, and capers fillings. The southern style cajun chicken pieces are slightly charred topped with sour cream and cranberry sauce. Overall, it was a good experience from this café/ restaurant 🍴. There is plenty of seating area. There is plenty of offsite parking 🅿. They accept cash and EFTPOS including credit card payments (Paywave payments are not available, for those who want to know). Would I go back? Yes 😀. The rating will change - either going up 👆 or down 👇. I'll review it again in future 🔮 when I go back for the second time. Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. Had a beautiful meal here outside on a summer's night tonight. Staff were so lovely and the outdoor seating area is great. Would 100% recommend and I will be back!

Very busy, best to book ahead during summer and anticipate a longer wait. Pizzas were pretty good,but the bases felt a little too firm for my liking. Had the pasta which was not too bad.

Absolutely love The Dangerous Kitchen. The food and coffee are unbeatable. I wanted to order everything in the cabinet it looked so good. The staff were awesome and service was quick even though it was quite busy. There's a really good feel about this spot and plenty on the walls to keep it interesting. Check out the cheeky mural out front or the local art through the inside room. Can't wait to come back to try something else soon.

Carrot cake is the best I’ve had in my entire life. Lovely staff who offered to make my food & coffee for me while I ran back to the car for cash. Jumped the line when I came back and it was beautifully sitting ready for me.

Food really good, pizzas as cake. But waiting 45 minutes for 2 pizzas is not normal. Saying it to a waitress ans have "it's coming, sometimes pizza can take until an hour" as answer, it's very frustrating. The normal maximum wait in a restaurant is 20 to 25 minutes and it's for real meals...

We arrived when they were very busy and thought the wait for coffee would be long but we received our coffee and treats very quickly. Staff were all very friendly and upbeat. Delicious coffee and sweets.

Best place in Takaka! After an incredible hike to Seperation Point at the Abel Tasman we came here for some well deserved pizza. Dangerous kitchen wouldn't be the same without the exceptional waiter/-ress we had, Goff and Quentin, please never change you're amazing!! Your positive energy, chats and smiles made us feel at home and made this into an unforgettable dinner. The pizzas were the best we've had in ages, the variety of food is simply amazing and really creative. We've had pineapple express and pulled beef: DELICIOUS!!! Cheers!

Great place to go in groups large or small. Outdoor seating, sofas, and tables. Classy but laid back, always friendly wait staff, and a bar in the back. Lovely pizzas and lots of grab-and-go food from the cafe as well. Vegetarian options.

Had the venison meat pie and it was the best meat pie of my entire life! Best pies in NZ that I've ever had! Coffee was awesome too.

Amazing pizza’s they have. We had such a good time here. Especially in the evening when it’s sunny and you sit outside. It’s so relaxing to drink a good cider and eat a artisan pizza. Love this place in the small Takaka!!!

I have been here twice, and have fond memories of both visits. This is a lovely place to spend some time at in the wonderful township of Takaka during the midst of a classic Nelson summer. The coffee on offer is fantastic and I recall it being perfectly made both times I passed by - a strong flat white without too much milk with a velvety texture. I have also sampled the food on offer and I must say it is delicious. I can only wish I could visit here more often!

AMAZING pizzas! My favourites are the Popeye Plus (Vege), the Dangerous, Henny Penny and the organic Pulled Beef. Great coffee and absolutely beautiful souls behind the counter. Love The Dangerous Kitchen!

Great pizza and cake. Lovely garden out back to have a beer and bite to eat! Reasonable prices for good food. Quite slow service in summer, but is to be expected during peak times of the day.

Great atmosphere and great food, especially the pizzas. They also have a really good selection of local crafted beers. The only problem is that they are so busy that some times you need to wait over 40 minutes for the food.

Golden Bay is not just home to some of New Zealands best single pitch sport climbing, it is also home to one of my favourite pizza restaurants. The Dangerous Kitchen does a lovely pizza. I have been twice and have both times been impressed with the quality of the food on offer (not the cheapest however). The staff are friendly and polite, and were quick to take our order and bring out our food. I must say however that some of the cutlery was a bit dirty, nether-less this was attended to, and the staff promptly apologised and brought us a new set. The relaxed atmosphere is also a bonus.

Delicious pizza with amazing flavours - we tried the Seafood, Anatoki Salmon and the Southern Style one. All very good! Kids-friendly place with lots of toys & books around - our toddlers were happy and so were we! Would definitely come back.

We got a large deluxe pizza, 10$ more than the classic but it had heaps of artichoke and toppings which were great. The pizza was pretty big, we were full with two slices left, and it was quality crust. Nothing to complain about

Absolute gem. Had their vegan pizza option which had adzuki beans and a tahini drizzle. Hands down the best vegan pizza we've ever eaten! It was loaded with toppings! My wife and I ordered a large between the two of us, but we only finished half of it so we took the rest home. Maybe grab a medium instead next time haha Wish we could order this everywhere we go! Dandelion latte was yummy! Great vegan treats in the case - vegan filo wrap and a raw snickers. Lovely place to sit and chat. Vegan pizza was not pleasant though, would not get again.

Absolutely delicious! Came here two days in a row for breakfast, had a chorizo fill the first day and a sweet muffin the second day. Coffee is also good. Spent about $10 each day. Lovely staff, lovely music, lovely place!

I went there once, for diner, as my boyfriend and I were staying in Takaka for the night. That was in April 2017, and we had a half and half pizza, which was simply amazing ! Especially the fish side ! Service was great, and fast, atmosphere was warm and cozy. I would recommend to anyone visiting Takaka ! I also remember they're open for brunch and lunch 😉

After a long hike, this is all I look for in civilization. Great coffe, chai or hot chocolate and food but the warm fire and smiles were what really made it special. Repeat offenders for several days! Goff and Quinton thanks for making us feel home :)

Great food, lively ambiance, sometimes quite busy requiring a wait to get food. Gluten free options available but not guaranteed to celiac standard. As a celiac I've only had a couple small reactions, but the carrot cake is worth the risk.

Beautiful atmosphere in the back garden. Eggs Bene delish with mushroom n spinach. Yummy smoothie too, berries, banana and wheatgrass

Drinks are pretty awesome here, food looked yummy (will be back to try), and the staff are super friendly!

Well I think the danger is that you will eat too much. Excellent food served with a local flair. Great fireplace, I could have stayed there and had a cup of coffee and a sweet something. Well I guess that is why they call it Dangerous Kitchen. Very enjoyable.

Ordered 2 medium pizzas for takeaway to eat at my motel. After waiting half an hour I had to enquire as to their progress to be told 10 minutes to go. 18 minutes later I received it.Took it home and the pulled beef pizza was great and the seafood one was the best I've ever eaten even though the crust was slightly burnt. The customer service looked great to those punters who were dining in but it seemed that people getting takeaway are second class citizens. No one noticed us waiting there so long even though we had 2 small children. 48 minutes is too long without any warning. Manage needs to school their staff in looking after ALL customers. Could have been 5 stars.

Expensive for what you get, eggs benni without a key ingredient (ham, salmon or spinach) which needs to be ordered as a side, service is slow, common at all cafes in Tarkaka

Very good service, wait staff seemed genuinely warm and friendly. Though it was not a busy night. Nice vibe and interesting local photos on the walls. Food was fine, a little disappointing that they had run out of a few things so we were not able to order. Would go again.

Nice service and café. Good chai latte and so delicious baked goods (sugar free, vegetarian option...). I recommand the paleo cookies they were amazing!!

Friendly staff, tasty muesli, and good prices! Dangerous breakfast is really dangerous, be careful taking that if you're not super hungry.

Quite disappointing. A 20 min wait to order and then a 40 min wait for the food. When it came the pesto pizza deluxe was too cheesy and the tomato soup was quite ordinary - although the bread was good.

We loved every thing about it. The tasty food, the quick service, the lovely courtyard garden to eat in and the inexpensive prices. We will be going back.

Fantastic poppey plus pizza, staff friendly and you can have a seat out on the pavement watching takakas main street.

Nice pancakes, $17-19 for 3 small ones may be a bit expensive, but we still enjoyed them.

(Translated) This café is currently among the top 5 cafes I visited in New Zealand. Already from the outside it is very interesting and uniquely designed and inside I could enjoy the perfect atmosphere of my good tasting cappucino and the Black Forest cake (right on the stove). The latter is of course hard to approach the original from home, but that's the case with most dishes;) Already the evening before I came here and tasted the Dangerous Pizza. Without question, this is one of the best pizzas I've eaten so far. The dough has been exactly in the oven, the amount of topping is just right and the taste has been very good. If my trip leads me over here again I will definitely try a second pizza :) (Original) Dieses Café ist bisher unter den Top 5 der Cafés die ich in Neuseeland besucht habe. Bereits von außen ist es sehr interessant und einzigartig gestaltet und im Innenbereich konnte ich durch das schöne Ambiente perfekt meinen gut schmeckenden Cappucino und die Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (direkt am Ofen) genießen. Letztere kommt natürlich schwerlich an das Original aus der Heimat heran, aber das ist ja bei den meisten Speisen so ;) Bereits am Abend zuvor bin ich hier eingekehrt und habe die Dangerous Pizza gekostet. Ohne Frage gehört diese zu den besten Pizzen die ich bisher gegessen habe. Der Teig ist auf den Punkt genau im Ofen gewesen, die Menge des Belages ist genau richtig und der Geschmack ist sehr gut gewesen. Falls mich meine Reise nochmals hier vorbei führt werde ich auf alle Fälle noch eine zweite Pizza testen :)
