We usually don't visit same place more than once when we travel as like to try different things. But we loved this restaurant so much we came back on the second night. Not only the food was A+++ but the staff is incredibly professional and make the whole experience even nicer. Other than the menu items, the dessert cabinet is incredible and i would say even if you are full from your dinner- get one of those desserts take away anyway- it's worth it . Extra points for checking Vaccine Passes, thank you .

My family and I visited Dixie Brown for the first time recently by accident on the 19th of Jan and I am glad to say it was a very good accident indeed. Before I get to the good part of our experience, unfortunately there were some negatives. As we entered in, our family was forced to enter into the restaurant again as they could not check our vaccine passes at our table. The waitress then took us around and we got to seat at the exact table we chose at the very beginning. The unfortunate part was that the family at the next table had their vaccine passes checked right at the table. There was some obvious discrimination there by the female staff. Also, its very difficult to get service at the table, and we were not given any cutlery or serviettes with our meals. Please bring the cutlery along with our meal. It also would be recommended to have some type of service device on tables as it is very challenging to get service especially during peak times. Now to the good parts and there is more than one! Our main server George was absolutely amazing, we experienced some great customer service from him. He was attentive, friendly and talkative. He is a perfect example of what excellent customer service should be and how it should be exhibited. Now to the most important part... THE FOOD!!! We initially went in thinking we would order drinks. We had the Irish coffee, Death by chocolate, lemonade and ginger ale. The Irish coffee is highly highly recommended by my Mom and Mom just wants to go back for more. All their drinks, spot on. We then had a look at the menu and decided to order some deserts. We had the cheesecake and waffles. One negative was that the dishes were too sweet, the syrup on the waffles would be better on the side rather than pre-poured on the plate. Just so the customer can choose the amount they want. The cheesecake was to die for, also very sweet but definitely worth it. At this moment we were having such a good experience we decided to look at the dinner menu. Let me tell you, we would have regretted making that decision if we had walked out after the desserts. We ordered the special that day which was the Lobster tail and rather than eye fillet we replaced it with the fish. Excellent no complains there, highly enjoyable and worth it. We also had the BBQ chicken pizza, it was smokey, it was cheesy, it was crispy. Again very highly recommended. This place is definitely recommended for anyone who visits Taupo even if its for drinks.

Our family had a great meal here. Tried some recommendations on local beers and loved them. The food was great and atmosphere was nice. Staff were friendly and attentive (but not annoying). Our kids were happy as well with some things to do and they loved their meals. I can definitely recommend the Tequila Lime Chicken.

This place seems to be one of the in places in Taupo for pizzas, but i don't know why. If you look at the pizza photos i published also, they look good but are way too light in the toppings especially when we paid on average $32 for each pizza. All pizzas were gluten free but they don't take into account that you can get really good crispy gf pizzas from Domino's a lot cheaper. The decor here was great and the deserts looked amazing and probably were but we didn't try any. I must have missed what makes this place so busy, but for gluten free pizzas you're better off somewhere else

Honestly a bit disappointed, I was looking forward to coming here the service was excellent but the food was just not to put it politely. I ordered the calamari and I got the grossest plate of stinky rubbery food and two piles of plain rice it was more than slightly disappointing. Edit- when I went to pay they gave me a 10% discount on my order because of the calamari which made me feel better

The service here lastnight was amazing, I didn't catch the waiters name but she was very adorable. She was wearing a decorative Xmas headband and the conversation she shared with myself and husband was very flowy. She made our dine in at Dixie browns worth it and even told us she thought we were a great vibe! Funny she said that, right before that was said - Hubby and I were discussing how great the service was. Compliments are always good! 5 stars for food and service.

We had to giggle a little when they said the wait would be 25-30 mins lol. That's fast where we're from hehe. Lovely delicious food & service. Would highly recommend. Will return when in Taupo again. One of my favorite places to stop if I am around Taupo or passing Taupo, or around this area. Have been there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Must be hard to get a table because this place is always packed ! I have eaten many things on the menu. Breakfast dishes are really filling. I love to have a substantial breakfast and their portions and choice of ingredients are on point. What to recommend ? Try whatever ! You wont be disappointed! If you want something fancy, try their hot chocolate ! The presentation is outstanding ! Tastes soooo good ! You might want to order a second cup! I recall that one time we were there for dinner and had to take outside sitting. They provided us with blankets to keep us warm. Highly recommended ! Must stop if in this area !

Great food and the food arrived fast despite the restaurant being full. Well staffed. Would suggest either booking a table or getting there early as it is definitely busy during peak times. Belgian waffles were yum.

Only stopped here due to it being a bit late for any cafes to still be open. To be honest, we weren't expecting much, but were born away by how good it was! Three different stay served us, each of whom was attentive, pleasant, and just plain nice! Possibly the best vanilla thick shake I've ever had, excellent iced coffee, and the scones were perfect. Not sure what magic you do to get the whipped cream that good, but it works. We'll definitely be back for a bigger meal!

Very neat cafe with great atmosphere and interior decor. Food and coffee was great, especially my Dixie Brown Omellete (with 3 eggs). I would have given 5 star, but the Kids' Breakfast Blueberry Panckes was a bit bland and doughy, not fluffy!

The first thing that they say when you enter is how long it takes for a food to be prepared. I'm not sure what is the point exactly to greet customers like that, as they say it will take 30 minutes which a normal wait time. They brought our lunch in less than 10 minutes. Ok. The waiter was very nice and came to check with us twice. Our choice of lunch "the catch of the day" and the "Tuscan chicken burger" was average. Fish was probably defrosted, as it wasn't juicy. Burger for $28.50 was a big disappointment, it was dry, with overcooked bacon, little greens, no sauce... Chips that came with it had no sauce either. They seem to have a nice selection of desserts but we haven't tried it.

Great service from George and yummy food. My family and I love to eat at Dixie Browns whenever we visit Taupo, we never go anywhere else. My daughter loves their deserts, especially the waffles and the food is amazing! Definitely recommend trying out the food here.

My partner and I visited the establishment sharing some entrees and mains and I honestly can't recommend going there enough. Amazing service and even better food. That was maybe the best burger I have ever had. The veg pattie was light and succulent with fresh ingredients and Guri's sauce did the trick! Everything else was amazing as well

We booked dinner for 12 people, 6 adults and 6 teenagers. We arrived and our table was all set up and waiting. We had a giant square table which made it really easy to chat. The waitress was fantastic. We did have to wait a bit for our food but we decided to stack our phones in the middle of the table and play some games and have some fun. The food arrived and was better than we expected, everybody loved their meals. A special mention to our waitress, she was bright and bubbly without being annoying. One of the best :-)

So our family hit this spot for dinner last night. There were 15 adults and 3 little ones (under 4) in our party. It was busy and our food arrived in good time. Everything was delicious! My dish was probably the least fav meal however was still nice. But the other's meals were exceptional! Our family would highly recommend most of what we ordered. I wouldn't have the catch of the day again. Not because it was bad. Just because other items were stand out like the lamb shanks, pork belly, salmon and scallop stack, spicy chicken noodles, pizzas, steaks, burgers, sliders, ribs. So good!!! We forgot about the public holiday surcharge... it would have been good to be told prior to being seated. We still would have eaten there. And I will definitely eat there again. Staff were hospitable and food was gorgeous. No room for dessert so will pace ourselves a bit better next time. I'm already planning our next trip! Thank you.

I can't rate this place high enough , came here for lunch and it was so amazing I had to come back for dinner!! So much variety the staff are lovely, especially the nice man with blonde curly hair and accent he made my dinner rather lovely, he was very sweet and excellent service. The first thing I noticed when entering was the rotating dessert cabinet near the entrance full of sweet treats. the cabinet had a sign on it about waiting to be seated which was helpful. Once seated we looked through the menu and was able to order without too much hassle. I had the coconut and vanilla shake with seafood chowder and onion rings. The shake was alright. I was expecting coconut flavour rather than desiccated coconut. The chowder was nice and the garlic bread that came with it went well. The onion rings were crispy and tasty, and it looked like it was both battered and crumbed. Decent food and service all at a really good location across the road from the lake. It also looked like they had tables outside which would be amazing during summer.

Update: Came back again because of the great food last time. Glad we gave it another shot! Service was great this time around and all the food was just as good as the time before, if not better. We wanted to love this place for the nice atmosphere and great food but unfortunately the service was just not good. We only interacted with our server once when she took our order. Never brought our drinks, someone else dropped off our food, and we were never checked on. Finally we had to get up and ask the bartender for some water 75% of the way through with our meal. Later on we wanted dessert and again had to get up and look for someone to help us. Finally another server realized our waitress had disappeared and was super friendly and helpful. Maybe we just got unlucky!

Lovely ambience although it would’ve been more comfortable if we had been seated at the booth seats that were available when we arrived instead of squeezed at a table near the door with high traffic (there were 7 of us). Really good vegetarian burger and wonderful host who accommodated my requests to modify the dish, and also checked in with us about the food midway through the meal. Fries and onion rings were great! Chilli chicken noodles had a great mix of ingredients but were a tad too salty.

REALLY decent clam chowder and garlic bread for only $14.90 - which made up for the (also very delicious) Mars Bar cheesecake in a jar turning out to be $14 - nearly the same price! Dixie Browns is famous in Taupo and for good reason. On our recent trip we had breakfast here 3 mornings in a row for good reason. The staff are super friendly and the food is delicious, the eggs benedict is too die for. They were so accommodating with the two rambunctious kids we had in tow. Dixie Browns is a "must do" when in Taupo.

Ate on a week night off season and was surprised at how busy it was - until we experienced the staff and food then it was obvious why it was busy. We were a walk-in of 3 and were really well looked after. Were shown to a table and given menus and the greeter apologized that the only table they had was near the door but as soon as another, better one was available we were moved without us having to ask. Ribs were massive and almost to big to finish and the braised ox cheek just melted in the mouth.

Wonderful prompt service and a great atmosphere. The steak was cooked perfectly and was seasoned just enough. The mushroom sauce was very peppery and creamy and could have used a few more mushrooms. The pizza was really good- it wasn't too thin or crunchy and had a good amount of doughy texture. The addition of red onion was overpowering and detracted from the other ingredients but was forgivable. The selection of alcoholic beverages is device and the dessert just as good. For the portion size the value for money is definitely there and we will be back.

Really really good restaurant in front of beautiful lake taupo! We stayed 2 nights at lake taupo and visited Dixie Browns twice - never change a running system. It is more extensive compared to other Restaurants in this area but the food ist really delicious and the service ist very good!

Delicious food, superb customer service and a lasting good impression. Staff were very accommodating and happy to bend over backwards for us despite being crazy super busy. We were a party of 8 including 4 children and an infant and were advised a 25min table wait and a further 30 min for food delivery on arrival but despite that they got us a table in 5 mins of waiting and food within 15mins which was very much appreciated!

Landed here on a busy Saturday night after being turned away from other restaurants for not having reservations. Dixie was full up as well, but the awesome host was able to fit us in between two reservations for a quicker meal (thank you so, so much!) The ribs were fantastic, best we've had in NZ and rivaling texas baby back. The butter chicken was the best curry dish I've had in years and reminded me of my time in India. Incredibly well prepared and wonderful rice and yogurt. The spaghetti with meatballs was a bit of a letdown. Meatballs were overcooked, too hard and too dry. Calimari seemed to be the frozen variety, but was well prepared, sauce was delicious, and the greens included were great. Finishing with a double thick chocolate shake was tough, their dessert menu is one of the best I've seen. Would return here several times just to experience the rest of the menu.

Our shared entrees of Dixie Wings with blue cheese dipping sauces were so good! We chose from a variety of delectable desserts to take home with us. Hope to be back!

Really great service here and a lovely view of the lake if you sit near the front of the restaurant. We managed to watch the Christmas parade in town go past while drinking tea and eating cake. The food was good, unfortunately the lemon meringue pie looked great but had no flavour, very faint hint of lemon but that was it. They do offer soy milk which was great and you get a really decent sized pot of tea with a Dilmah tea bag so that was great quality.

If not wanting a large meal I'd recommend going for an entree as it's enough of a meal. The garlic bread came out in what felt like seconds and was divine! The service was fast, a little bit too fast. :D First we ordered the garlic bred and feta rosemary garlic bred. Both were very delicious! After that my girlfriend ordered the Dixie brown burger and I took the prime rip. The food was so good! My prime rib was medium and tasted awesome! The burger looks really nice and was also delicious. For dessert we ordered two banana splits. But the waitress told us that we should first have a look how much it is. And they were right! It is a really big portion! And one is enough for two. My girlfriend had a milkshake at the end. It was one of the best shakes we had in new Zealand yet. We would came again!!

Food was good however we had two waiters who both looked very uninterested to be there and did not even speak to us. The first girl came to take out order without any greeting. She just stood there with a pen to take our order. Second waiter gave our food and put the food on the table without any interest or words. On a positive note the view was great and the food as well.

Love this restaurant! I live in Texas USA and spent 2 weeks traveling North and South NZ in the fall of 2016. We spent a day in Taupo and ate dinner at Dixie Browns. I had an amazingly fresh tasting pizza and a beer. It's my most memorable meal and restaurant of that trip. I also love the beautiful town of Taupo.

Was recommended this place for breakfast while in Taupo. Was really busy when we got there which was a good sign. Fairly decent size restaurant. We ordered our meal and 10 mins later my partner realised he did not specify how he wanted his eggs done. He called the waitress over and it was not a problem. It's usually really good and I enjoy going here but the last visit I got nachos and it was poor as I can make them better myself. The staff are very good and accommodate for all occasions and have small details that go above and beyond like blankets outside along with heaters outside. Not many places do this.

Hard to choose from the menu, because I would like to try ALL of the items. We had slow braised beef cheeks and pork belly. Both were 10 out of 10. Staff were very helpful and friendly, even the place was extremely busy. Geeat steak and grill options. Can't wait to come back.

Great little restaurant with an extensive menu. The closest thing I have found in NZ to an American style dinner. Good selection of New Zealand beers to choose from (highly recommend the Hawkes Bay black duck porter). Views of the lake from the front tables make for a very relaxing lunchtime venue.

This is our go to, when in Taupo. Twice in two days the food was great and we loved the iced coffee. Our evening visit was a bit confusing, the lady that served us we interpreted her manner was abrupt and our thank you's were greater with silence. Part way through she noticed not all our meal had been served. She was on to it straight away and apologised for the few minutes delay. We realised she was so focussed on keeping service running smooth and she was juggling service on a very busy night. We'll done to her.

What an amazing place! We definitely recommend this restaurant. We regret only finding Dixie Browns on our last night in Taupõ! We had such an amazing experience. Great atmosphere, great music, excellent service - great location. And the food! The meat was grilled to perfection, the ribs were amazing - even the Greek salad was out of this world. The crumbed mushrooms!!! I can go on and on. There are quite a few kids meals to chosse from as well. Our kids aged 6 and 8 enjoyed their pizza and chicken nuggets and the menu entertained them the whole time we were there (activities on the menu). Food was very good and service was excellent. We had a feta-rosemary pizza bread for a starter. It came fast and yammi; hubby had pork ribs,the portion was huge and very tasty. I had catch of the day which was a pan fried snapper and it also was very good. In addition to the wonderful views of the sunset over the lake Taupo - it was a great experience indeed.
